Google Play Services battery drain - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a true fix for this? On my battery stats page, Google Play Services gets up to 15% by the end of the day.. I have disabled syncing a lot of data and do not auto update apps. If you need any other info, just ask

Are you up to date with current updates? Usually when gps spikes battery use Ford me it's repeatedly down loading updates and doesn't show when I'm on custom ROM or modded

I am as up to date as I can be!

Same here!

Same here mate, this is probably a known bug related to 6.0.1 release.
Also, my Wi-Fi connection is always on in my battery stats, but is turned off in every menu of the system!

[Q] Is Google Services suddenly draining battery for everyone else?

After the Google I/O announcements yesterday, I noticed I was draining battery a lot quicker than usual. I checked battery stats and Google Services was responsible for almost 70% of my battery usage - and this is continuing into today. See the screenshots below for what I mean:
Battery stats
Google Services battery usage
I haven't used Maps or anything GPS related this morning - I'm not sure what the GPS usage is for. Is anyone else seeing something similar this morning?
Yes! Idk what it is

I had this happened to my phone a couple of days ago. It would not go away until I cleared data for all google apps including the framework. Did a reboot and let it sit there overnight.. When I woke up it was gone. Hope this helps

I unchecked use GPS in location settings and it brought the battery usage down. There was an update to it yesterday and it seems to have started the battery issue again. I had issues with Google Services when I first got the phone.
My maps started going crazy yesterday. It was going higher than screen time in %. This also started yesterday.
Are you missing a Google update btw? My icon for Google Services appears as the google play puzzle piece.
Right now my Maps is at 26% and Google services is at 2%.though 4 hours in I am only down to 89%.

Mines was a puzzle piece also until I launched the play store and google services was updated. Now it's like the one OP showed.
I had the issue of maps being higher than screen on battery usage yesterday even though I hadnt opened maps in days. What I did was force stop maps and restart my phone. All seems well now. I also updated google search/now last night and it didnt affect anything.

Google music constantly runs in the background now. I forced closed, few seconds later it started running again. I never opened google music since I got the phone. I prefer stock music player. So what I did was disable that app since I can't uninstall it.
Same as OP here.
Going into Application manager and clearing the cache for the Google programs (as mentioned earlier) seems to work well...temporarily at least.
Not getting the google services drain, but the new map update added some bull**** wakelock called nlpcollector.. no clue what its doing but its keeping the phone awake about 8 mins out of every hour. Uninstalled the update and it stopped... wtf google?
Installed and ran "Better battery stats" and took a look at the "wakelock" and it Network Location Locator that eating up my battery. I also have a HTC one and the battery lasts all day but the S4 barely makes it till noon.

Do any of you have "Report from this device" enabled in Maps? It will use data constantly.

Thnxs. Turned that setting off but it still drained.....Figured it out. It was a setting in location that says 'wifi and mobile location' that was causing a drain. Turned it off and only lost 3% over night instead of the 20% I usually lost before. The only thing is that now Google Now wont work unless the setting is turned on. But I can live with it for now till an update comes out.

There is a great thread HERE with a solution to this issue. I really think you all should read it and try it out. No more Google Service battery drain from now on. :good:

Android System Process battery drain sense kitkat (4.4.2) update

Has anyone had issues with really bad battery drain on newest update?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
I haven't noticed a drop in battery life after upgrading from CM10.2 to stock 4.4.2.
I have very few apps on my phone and I keep wifi and data off when I'm not using my phone.

It was my GPS eating up my battery. Mixed with the weather channel app. My battery was dead in 7 hrs.

Bad Battery Life
Hi
Yes, I have noticed a dramatic drop in battery life. I use to get home from work about 6pm with about 50% battery life. Now by 2pm I'm less than 10%.
No Bluetooth. No GPS. No NFC (this was originally on when getting to 6pm). WiFi on. WiFi Off. Doesn't matter. Turned location services to battery save or off. No new apps.
I have converted runtime to ART (worth having a read up on this), which can potentially give up to 20-30% better battery.
The funny thing is at home with full WiFi and strong 3G reception the battery life is exceptional! 2-3 days standby (light/medium use). The 3G reception at work.
A friend suggested that possibly the radio (3G) isn't locking on to a specific tower and keeps bouncing between towers chewing up the battery.
I will try a factory reset and see if it fixes the problem. From what I've been able to discover online it doesn't seem to be a very common problem.
Same Here
My girlfriend is having the same problem with battery drain.
GPS is off and she's using Wi-Fi at home.
When Google rolled Kit Kat OTAs I had to wipe her phone and flash the official Mako factory images to actually get it updated. So the phone isn't rooted and It's completely stock now. The 4.4.2 OTA update installed just fine. Then she noticed the poor battery life. Android system and Android OS are the 2 highest battery users in the list (will try to get a screenshot of this later)
Is the factory reset working for any one?
Has a reinstall of the factory images fixed this?
Any other suggestions?
Just wanted to ask everyone before I spent a bunch of time on it.
Thanks so much!
factory reset doesn't resolve
I did a factory reset and the issue still exists. I have removed 1/3 of my apps, 80% of the photos on my phone. I tried running Bluetooth off 100% of the time. Turned off location reporting. Turned off syncing any Google service I wan't using. None of these helped. My problem is intermittent. I will make a change then go a couple of days thinking "problem solved," then on the third day massive battery drain reoccurs. I think the battery monitor in the OS is unreliable when this occurs becasue it will report an app like "Flixter" as the main source of the drain. The next time it will be mediaserver, or TV Guide.

You got a lot of apps it sounds like. My problem has been eliminated sense removing weather channel app. Been good for two weeks

Same problem.
I have read millions of forums and this problem is not going away. I also have intermittent battery drain - it works for a few days and then everything goes back to sh-it. I've tried everything - deleting apps, turning off all services i don't use, power saving mode, sync, GPS, and nothing works.

Thanks for that note! I know my gf uses the weather channel app. Will tell her to remove it.
On a similar note. Now a few months later now and her battery wont hold a charge for more than 2 hours and wont charge to 100% every time. Her phone is only a year old. luckily she called google 2 days before the 1 year warranty was up. They sent instructions on safe mode and some other tips. Hopefully she'll end up with a new battery and i'll make sure shes not using weather channel haha.

Google services play is draining my battery.

The process checkin service is draining my battery, I have flashed the stock rom a lot of times and it is still draining my battery
I have the same problem. Any solutions?

Check your google account sync under account options, maybe there is a problem that android is trying to sync something and is getting error?
i had the same problem. i just stopped using smart lock (settings/security) and problem gone. other than that i would suggest a clean install if you don't find the cause
P.S. around the same time i flashed a kernel but i don't think that is relevant with the drain
i have similar problem, but battery drain comes from exchange services. it is on top of battery usage, a bit strange because i dont turn on auto sync
anyone facing the same problem?

[SOLVED] Battery drain issue in Xperia SP due to Google Play Services

I am not sure about Stock 4.3 rom but this method definetly solved the issue in CM 11
After updating Google Play Services to 7.0 or even on 6.5 there was severe battery drain due to play services running in background.
When i observed battery Stats for one day, around 70% of battery was draining due to Play Services on Standby mode.
So here is a easy guide to solve the issue for CM 11 :
1. Go to Settings>Privacy>Privacy Guard.
2.Touch on Menu>Advanced.
3.All App ops will be displayed, go to Google Play services.
4.Change the option to Denied for following:
Location>Denied
Wake up>Denied
Keep awake>Denied
5.We can again change the setting to Allow when needed.
Look at the ScreenShot in attachments after I applied these settings.
Now there is only 2% of the battery drain by Play Services.
Please press the thanks button if the info was useful.

Ewww Samsung themed ROM...
Joking bro.
Anyway what you claim does make sense (especially in my eyes) because google related services have a habit of draining battery, commonly by wakelocks, so disabling their wakes would help. I am also on CM11 and am getting battery drain from google services (not google play services) but the same applies as it has kept my device awake for 2hrs + till now.

Thx.
I belive I've got the same issue. I'll post a image when I get some more details later on.
I did notice at your image that, the "awake" like is exactly the same length than "WiFi". Would you try to set "airplane mode" and see if your phone gets to"deep sleep"?
Enviado desde mi HUAWEI GRA-L09 mediante Tapatalk
Can't add any image but, after two hours in airplane mode, my phone was all the time in deep sleep and the battery drain was 1% per hour.

Well, as I mentioned in my first post, i think its because of some notification or something. I recived facebook message when phone started beeing "awake" and stopped when i reply. Its somethong like I clear that notification by replying. I think that when your noti led is blinking, your phone is awake but I dont know why and how to solve it.
Hello.
This is all right, but... after instalation of B80 I noticed a much greater power consumption under WIFI, than it was at B370. Power consumption at this time is at Androd 5.1 level. Do any of You have a similar observation?
