So with all the issues around, is there anything positive from those who have actually managed to get the Venue Pro about the device itself ?
Pros -
Solid construction
Sharp and vibrant screen
very nice keyboard
Cons -
Camera - poor / useless in low light
Overall after using the HD7 now for a week I am longing for my Venue Pro back. The unit feels good and solid in the hand and the 4" screen seems to be the perfect size.
Can't wait to get the call from the Microsoft Store to be able to go pickup a working unit.
Its one of the best devices I used so far. The WP7 OS feels great. The keyboard is good to have. Camera sucks, but I am not a big phone camera fan any way its just a utility thing. The curved screen is so good that in direct sunlight it feels good. The battery life is decent, I use a lot of phone (and I mean a lot over 7000 mins per month) and it lasts till 6:30PM or 7:00PM and I have to charge it a little bit to get me till bed time. I charge the phone overnight and unplug it around 7:30AM. The device is a bit heavy but thats exactly what I want. Makes me feel strong, ha ha ha. But overall if Dell can go thru the labor pains I think that this baby will look great and all the babies that follow.
I love the phone...
Battery life is something to be desired, but hopefully that improves...Camera is really poor...my Sony X1 had a better camera, get blurred pictures all the time and the settings reset whenever I start up the camera, which is annoying.....
In direct sunlight, its really hard to see the screen, so i'm looking for an anti-glare screen protector, so hopefully I can find one that sorts out that problem
I originally had the 16gb DVP, but gave it back and got the 8GB instead and will look to convert to 32gb (waiting on the class 2 sd card to come in the mail), but have a lot less hangups than before, and it only stalls when connected to wifi and d'loading large files (youtube hd or big Xbox Live games)....
Keyboard is fantastic, windows 7 as an OS is good, but has a lot of things that it needs to implement and quickly if it should catch up on everyone else...
I find it weird that they omitted glaringly obvious things (custom ringtones, inability to back up the phone or use it as a USB drive and SB cards that cannot be removed)...its as if they took two steps back and only one forward....
I'd give it 7/10....mainly for the bad camera and limitations of windows phone 7, but give multi-tasking and some sort of device manager (still shake my head that I have to e-mail a Microsoft word file to my own phone to view and edit it) and proper connection to skydrive, then it will def jump to an 8/10...but by that time I would have probably sold this phone for a post-Mango wp7 model
I love the phone....
I've had the HD7 and been able to play with the LG and Samsung in the US. I prefer the Dell. It fits my hand well, solid and sturdy. With the 32g card it rocks. I've moved all my music over to the Dell and purchased a Jabra Cruiser 2 for transmitting it in my car.
Signal strength is good, wifi coverage is good, battery life (as I use it) is easily acceptable.
it's heavier than the other phones, but I'm not sure I really care.
If I had to do it all over again, I might have paid for the 8g and upgraded card instead of the 16g....but whats done is done.
I agree too. I just dropped my phone and the DVP screen cracked. I went back to the HD7 which I had before the DVP. I understand Dell was making PDa's while HTC was still in diapers but HTC's HD7 just toooooo many issues.
My only issue with the DVP was wifi and once I turned it and left it off my phone was great. I am really traumatized by the loss of my DVP. Dell offered to replace for $249 but I can't make that investment again.
Does anyone know of an online retailer I can send the phone too, to have the screen replaced cheaper?
I'm more and more concerned about the quality of the NookColor due to countless complaints about the display and charging issues.
I have NC on order and it makes me nerves since I'm not located in US
Did you have to replace your NookColor ?
PLEASE PEOPLE VOTE, even if you have nothing to say to get large sample of users to see if this is real problem
THANKS
107 votes now and about 30% failure rate is very bad Looks like it is not unusual to return the device several times. Shame on the manufacturer to have this kind of quality control!
Yes, I had to replace my NC (Christmas gift) within the first 2 days. However, it was due to a sound issue - also discussed on several websites - and it couldn't have been an easier process. My local B&N said that of the hundreds of NCs they'd sold, mine was only the 2nd exchanged. I think that's a pretty safe ratio. My new one has had no quality issues at all. Given that I've had to replace PCs, smartphones and other electronics for quality issues, this doesn't seem too out of the norm.
I've had to replace mine as well. First due to sound issues. Now the piece of plastic around the "N" button isn't completely flush with the screen. I'm not taking it back for that reason because the rest of the hardware is fine. I do, however, have to get a new NC cable since the one i have now won't charge my NC. If it's not one thing, it's another.
Had to replace mine too, xmas gift, due to screen quality. There was a lot of light leaking along the bottom edge and a dead pixel. Super fast and easy, even transfered the extended warranty right over to the new serial. New NC is perfect so far.
Those with sound issues what were your symptoms?
Mine's been great. I certainly wouldn't discourage anyone from buying.... I'm not discounting the issues people have had (multiple returns is certainly eyebrow-raising), but I'm sure for every problem you hear about on the forums, there are many with no problems that you just don't hear about.
Mine has been great, aside from one dead pixel. Can't even notice it for the most part, especially since adding one of the anti-glare screen covers.
Sent from my LogicPD Zoom2 using XDA App
I just replaced mine today for sound issues!! Every time it would hibernate I would lose all sounds and the only way to get them back was to reboot.
Not an issue in sight. No screen problems. No sound issues. My biggest complaint is no bluetooth.
Sent from my NC 1.0.1 AN2.12.18
Thanks for all replies folks!
I feel better now
It will be interesting to see more votes in couple days.
No problems at all here 3 weeks in. I visit the B&N forums somewhat frequently and never heard of the sound problem before reading this thread.
My biggest problem is reboots after rooting.
First one dust under screen, dead pixel dead center.
Second one dead pixel lower right corner.
If you look at various sites, you will realize that there really is a quality problem that seems to be more centralized to screen issues/plastic noise.
Also realize that most of the issues are not major hardware failures but simple flaws.
Another thing to notice is that people are willing to exchange multiple times in efforts to find a keeper because the unit is just that good.
3rd one is on it's way! 1st & 2nd one had display issues...!!! Stupid me bought it online & as a bonus, it can't be exchanged in local B&N shops...
Yep ... 5 times. 6th (current) one is great, first 5 all had dead pixels.
I suppose it does say something about how awesome I find the device (once rooted), for me to go through that much trouble driving around getting it replaced ...
Got mine on release day and have had -0- problems ... got a second one a week b4 Christmas and it also was 'perfect' .. no performance or plastic problems ... live in a 'low demand' area I think and perhaps B&N is 'reprocessing' some of the returns that then get shipped to high demand area? Or maybe it's just luck of the draw ... anyway am really pleased with the two I have ...
3 weeks of hard use and no problems, but not rooted. yet.....
My front Bezel starting becoming unstuck at day 12 of the 14 day return period. It was showing the stretching glue on the left side that creaked. I noticed it warping and looked at it in landscape mode from the top.. Surprise!

Ok, I am B&N is sending my 3rd replacement. (Not Rooted!)
1st one would not boot/reset after plugging it in to recharge.
2nd one reboots and reloads on its own. Called tech. support and had me do a factory reset but the next day did the same thing but came up with an install failure.
My cousin bought one on release date and had no problems with her's.
My first one(Tursday) came OOB with a borked USB port on the NC. I managed to get the cable inserted twice on Thursday(almost took it back the first time that I plugged it in but the cable finally went in as I was about to give up). The next morning no amount fiddling would get the connector to insert properly.
Had a horrible time exchanging it. The idiot at the register kept trying to tell me that it was "fine" and that was how it was "supposed to be" until I made him hook up the power adapter, point out no LED, took it over to the demo unit and demonstrated there, got them to get their charger out try it in the obviously defective one and couldn't insert that cable either. Finally they gave in and deigned to exchange it. After all of that I had decided to check the exchanges connector right then and there, and lo and behold it was just like the demo unit and obvious VERY clearly inserting unlike the defective unit.
B&N have crappy QA, cs, and sales. No wonder they're in trouble... I think that if anything crops up w/this one before my 14d are up its going back permanently. I probably should've bought it from the Worst Buy literally across the street or Walmart for better cs alone.
Who is manufacturing the NC for B&N ?

IIRC correctly , the hardware is by Inventec (Taiwan). As far as problems, none... nada... zero... zilch with mine, nor have I had problems with either of the "classic" Nook ereaders that we have.
Hi guys,
I used to own a samsung omnia7... i loved the screen and general size of the phone, but i had soo much problems with the call quality and signal strength. sometimes it had zero signal in the middle of town, sometimes i had to restart the phone for it to get some signal. and it had always lower signal than friend's phones side by side.
In a call i always had problems, i was not able to hear anything at some point during the conversation. The person called or the person who called me could also not hear me anymore. Sometimes i heard the other side with a robot sound.
I remember some people said the problem was with the way the phone switched between 3g/2g, and it did make sense since sometimes i locked my phone to 2g via diagnosis and it did improve somewhat (signal strenght still low). but it was never fully resolved.
My omnia was stolen and i cant go back to android now. i'm thinking about a focus, there really cheap in amazon this days (240$). other option is a surround (200$). and i guess the other will be the Dell Venue Pro (240$).
I will like everyones opinion because no screen is worth the problems i had with the omnia. and thanks for your help...

The Focus is an amazing phone. The screen is amazing to look at. I've got equal signal strength to my wife's iPhone 4s. We have a weak signal here at home, so it shows up easily.
I bought the Titan, and returned it the following day because I didn't see enough benefit to upgrade from the Focus. I then went and picked up the iPhone 4s (now for sale on eBay). When the Lumia 900 comes, it will be a different story....
I've converted 4 people showing them my Focus. They loved the screen, Windows Phone, and how quick and responsive it was. One guy didn't believe I didn't have a dual-core CPU since my phone was faster on 1 CPU than his dual-core CPU Android phone.
Anyway, I truly believe that some of the issues you describe are partially due to just having some poor or faulty hardware in the phone. Annoying in that it wasn't enough to get a trade-in replacement, but it was to not want to go back to one.
I personally know someone who has a DVP and loves it. The deal on buy.com isn't too shabby either! The screen on the DVP is stunning, bright, and extremely precise. Slide out keyboard is also handy for those that can't quite get the hang of typing on a virtual kb. If I had extra money I'd definitely pick up a DVP.
My Focus is attached to my hip, literally, and my wifes Focus is arriving in 3-5 business days from Buy.com.
Happy decisions!
Thanks man... i sure hope so since i coudn't wait and already bought one from amazon. Amazingly, i paid 480$ for my omnia7 and now only 199$ for the focus (no brainer, so cheap for such an amazing phone).
I agree with you, second gen phones are not worth the extra 200$/300$ at all. My omnia7 was capable enough for me. IMHO only thing 2nd gen has on us, is the front facing cam (which i wont use at all). Howerver... I will buy for sure one of the dual(or quad)-core/hd-screen/wp8 beasts that will no doubt come later this year, THAT will be a real upgrade!
Anyway, for sure the omnia7 has many more threads than the focus about the call quality/signal strenght problem. in fact, i only found a couple of post about it so thats a little reassuring...

True That!
Hello guys
I'm Marco and I'm searching for a 249$ tablet, the market doesn't offer so much, I found Nexus7 and Galaxy tab 2 7.0.
Nexus should be a fine product but I read a lot about a terrible screen separation issue, was it fixed by Asus in the last batch ?
I couldn't tolerate a similar epic fail, and I'm not interesting in fixing it by myself.
Instead Samsung seems to soffer of death grip problem with wifi reception.
I come from a terrible experience with a chinese tablet, but I can't think asus build quality is lower !!!

I got mine in January, function wise it's okay... No software problems. I have 2 hardware problems though.
Screen lift, just a little. Doesn't impair any functions of the tablet and since i use a case with it the problem does not develop further. Probably pressure from the sides when holding the tablet with hand causes high pressure at the surrounding mounts, causing it to lose rigidity after time and loosens the screen, after getting a solid case it's solved for me.
The speakers started cracking about a week ago on high volume though, so this means i need a headphone around me. Doesn't affect me much too as it's pointless trying to listen at loud volumes outdoor with such small speakers. Does get a little annoying at times at home when i have to find my tiny earbuds => other than that no problems...
It's just like buying a cheap yet good car to me, while the performance is great mayb i'll suffer from build quality such as crakling dashboard or somethin. Logic is, if the a better pair of speakers were to add $1 of production cost per tablet, 4 million units produced will mean $4million less in earnings, which will mean a more expensive tablet anyway so there's always a tradeoff when something is cheap... I can find anything more perfect than the nexus 7 for its price tho, but that's just me...
Another view is that, if they produced a product with a 0.5% of failure rate, 4 million being sold so far will mean problems with 20,000 devices. Which is many, yet at the same time actually little, and acceptable for the price, with a development r&d time of only half a year, and for me at least. Lol! They could have done it better tho after all warranty claims mean cost to asus and google.Cheers.
The screen started to behave in a weird way after installing CM13, it just flickers at low brightness, I thought it was a cm related issue so i flashed a stock marshmallow rom, but it didn't help=( could it be the marshmallow thing? or is the display dying? I'm also thinking it might be a battery issue... Can't check it right now.
I'll flash a lollipop rom to see if marshmallow is the culprit here.
Thread closed. It's pixel burn. Turns out amoled does not live too long. Very disappointed, my next choice is certainly not gonna be amoled
I think that I am going to heavily disappointing you.
Just received my new (used phone purchase) an S5 G900F, this worked all ready for two years in Switzerland, and today, technically this is in fantastic condition.
The first owner it seems that he did had good training at using and coexist with portable electronic devices.
Many others, them using their S5 as this to be a hammer, or exposing it to the elements (under the hot sun), or having it this dancing alone in a car compartment at any road bump, them they do looking for trouble.
Additionally any one sacrificed IP67, so him to use cheap cases and cover from eBay, he is also looking for trouble.
Before you even thought to defend your self by using text, just post four pictures of your phone exterior condition, so other to judge your skills at coexisting with portable devices.

Not heard of this. I am also sure this is news to the millions of amoled owners. Any published study or online ref that amoled not lasting vs other screen types? Are there thousands of other amoled owners who have started threads here or in other forums with similar conclusions? This would surely be a well known issue if that were the case.
I did not start the thread to start a holy war between amoled lovers and haters, I myself have only used amoled smartphones my whole life. Later this day I'll post some photos so you can see in which condition my phone currently is. Speaking honestly I must admit that I have let it fall carelessly around 10 times for the period of 1.5 years, but the height from which the phone fell was always too little, it fell from my bed on to the floor about a few inches... Although it was once exposed to tap water by my careless reading of Samsungs manual, cuz I thought it was waterproof when in fact the only water that it can take was lil drops of rain.. I'm fully satisfied with the phone, it has served me greatly. But I am still disappointed
I am Blogger working for four years by following the sector of test and measurement equipment for electrical parameters.
In this planet most first implementations of OLED display over a multimeter, this caused even to me mixed feelings after performing some benchmarks / product review testing.
I was forced to seek even an opinion from a CEO him working in this industry.
Burn in of OLED's is a known problem
I had 3 used Galaxy S5 in 3 months, all of them were facing the same problem : Flickering screen on low brightness ( not caused by me I bought them like that )
I can tell that the device itself is so fragile and you must not ever drop it or you'll pay for your careless.

i bought mine used 8 months ago, phone is over 2 years old, i dropped it hard multiple times, i do have a cheapo plastic bumper case for it, no problems, yet. fragile, idk.
my daughter bought it new 1 year ago, she got the flickering, got a new screen under warranty, luck of the draw
I have a S5 with flickering Brightness in Low Brightness, Too.
I dont use in High Luminosity conditions like Sun, Outdoor, Etc
And is normal to me.
Same problem here. Often green flickering too. And have to press power button many times to wake phone from standby.
Internet is full of this problem, even YouTube is full of that.
I will never buy a Samsung smartphone again.
