I pay for unlimited data through sprint, but this does not include tethering. On the custom roms I've used, it's always worked out of the box, but now that I'm on a stock rom, I get a 'your device does not support this service' message. What's the tweak the custom roms are using to bypass this? I've searched like crazy, and the only thing I've found is an instruction to modify a line that my build.prop doesn't have :crying:

If you are rooted you just need to add the following to build.prop (I put mine at the bottom.)
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
Reboot and profit.
You da best, totally worked!

No problemo, been using that build.prop edit since my first Android, Motorola Atrix.
Mine worked with out any mods for some reason I'm stock rooted Verizon unlimited plan but I will keep this saved in case I ever need it.

Anyone got it to work with their rooted phone?
I'm using CM 5.0.6 mod and I can't get it to work, just wondering if it's the ROM or I'm doing something wrong.
My error reads;
"Fail to connect to the Ineternet. Please make sure your phone has good data service and try again"
If you're rooted why don't you just use a one of the free tethering solutions instead of a pay app?

My bad i should have noted, I actually want to use my internet from my laptop "for" my phone.
Dont know if this has been mentioned before.
Can I upgrade to 2.3 without negative effects?
Sorry if this has been discussed before.
Also, can I flash a regular rom ?
You can but it will require a rooted phone. My first evo I bought I flashed it to cricket and it is no different on the newer roms. The main problem I had was mms did not properly work until jimmy for evo. I rarely am in these evo sections cause I have other devices to concentrate on. My recommendations are root your phone. Do a search for flashing to cricket here and other places for evo, then find a rom with proper epts support. Once that is done, learn CDMA master to change settings if you cannot do it via epts. I am sorry I cannot be anymore help, it has been a long time since I messed with cricket. I switched over to sprint because I was fed up with cricket internet and mms crap. Hope this helps. I had to learn on my own and google is your best friend.
Its another phone I have, which its already flashed to cricket. I was wondering if I could flash "smooth n sexy" for example.
or a gb rom without braking it

You can flash any ROM, the thing is this, you may have to replace some of the files that you copied over. I run MikGs rom on my Evo flashed to cricket. There is a tut somewhere in this section that works for ANY ROM. That is why I keep the files I may need (telephony.db for example) on my SD card.
But the other items that you changed that require EPST remain untouched. Just the u2nl file you might need if you're on the 45 plan and of course, the telephony.db along with the apn file
Got it, thx.
what if I just flash an sbc kernel with undervolt? without the Rom

You can flash any kernel on top of any ROM. The kernel doesn't touch anything related to the flash or files needed to function on Cricket.
Just got the s5 and got it rooted but it is my understanding we need a boot loader unclock to load custom roms?
anyway what i really want is wireless tether can someone point me in the right direction. I cant seem to find any guide
just this http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.dym.motoxtether

1. Your first point is slightly incorrect. We need an unlocked bootloader to load custom kernels and ROMs like CM or AOSP. We can load Touchwiz ROMs with SafeStrap and there are multiple options on this forum.
2. There are multiple ways to do wireless tethering. You can use x-tether through XPosed, use Foxfi, or load a ROM that removes the Verizon provisioning and you can just use the built in hotspot.

I haven't been able to find an existing post for this yet.
Is there a Download Booster mod for NI2? The existing mod that modifies services.jar is, I'm assuming, for the old stock firmware only.

Oh, I've still got all my quick tiles. Just Download Booster never actually works since the upgrade. Just like when the phone first came out, we could access the on/off button, but it didnt do anything until modifying services.jar.
Need the new services.jar patch for NI2

Thanks for the heads up.
Any update on this?
I can verify that the previous services.jar files listed do not work with the NI2 update and will put your phone in a boot loop if attempted to be used.

Heh, I figured that might happen, so I didn't try them.
I thought about PMing the original source of those files to see if they had updates or would share their methods.
I guess a deodex, edit, and re-odex would be the best option for odex/stock rom's with the NI2 update unless someone else happens to have a new one already.

I know I had seen it before in a different post, I preferred this one only because it was flashable. I'll try to find the post and link it if I can when I get the time

Has anyone figured this out yet? There are a lot of people that would like to get this working if only because Verizon shut it down.
I've not yet figured it out, nor have I done much more digging.
I hear Lollipop has it enabled. I'm waiting a bit before upgrading to that though (xposed, etc.)
Lollipop does have it enabled however Lollipop is horrible. The system lag and battery life make you go insane. The modem software make the WiFi unusable. KK NI2 is the way to go.
Sent from my rooted SM-G900V running Optimal Rom NI2.
The ENG kernel used for root is great in a sense that it has aided in giving us root access, but it is nowhere near as refined as the factory kernel. @psouza4 has done a TON to make this kernel awesome, but there are a lot of people who have reverted back to stock because of the limitations.
I'm considering making an insanely debloated ROM that will hopefully run on the factory PE1 kernel. Root access would be needed to do the initial install with FlashFire, but afterwards there would be no root access. This might be what a few of you guys are looking for, a blazing fast ROM that runs forever on a charge, without getting hot. Once the ROM is flashed, there will be NO ability to modify unless the ENG kernel is flashed and rooted again. This ROM would NOT be for anyone interested in running Xposed framework in anyway.
If there is enough interest, I'll start working on something FAST!
Definitely interested in this
Extremely interested.
Could you throw in a modified hosts file for ad blocking? Or, should I mod it first then unroot? Also, would bypassing the checks for tethering be an option before going back to original kernel?

I'm hoping to include some mods like this. I believe I'll be able to modify the host file, but you would not be able to update the hosts once the ROM is installed.

Great! I was thinking of trying something along this route. I will make a flashfire backup of internal first then could give it a go.
I'll keep you posted when I have something worthy of flashing.
Wont future updates just re-bloat the rom?

The ROM would prevent future updates, so all updates would be done via re-root and flash.

Yeah.. very interested then... as long as you keep theme store in it
Awesome
This is exactly what I was looking for! I'd be eternally grateful if you did it.
I would love to see something like this!
My question is, since I can always at least disable bloat, can I make some changes (provisioning for tethering, modified hosts file) then unroot and reflash stock kernel?
The only reason I wanted root is for viper4android/audio mods. Would an unrooted rom be able to include that?

That's an interesting question. Some optimizations like that could be added. But that app wouldn't work since it requires root privileges.

This will be great. An insanely debloated stock VZR 935U ROM with non-provisioned tethering, HD calling, and VVM is all that that's needed to make this the ultimate phone. Everything else that's need for full VZW functionality can be installed from the Play Store.
However, how would you go back to the stock kernel after installing this ROM? Just by flashing the stock AP in Odin?
I'd be stoked if this phone had stock mm status bar icons that's the only thing I've honestly really used root for and it still doesn't say LTE but instead the ugly 4G icon.. I'd even be alright with Verizons icon if it wasn't persistent on WiFi but then they're still ics looking signal bars. My s7 runs rather warm and battery drain rather sucks with the eng. Kernel starting to think it's not quite worth being able to themeish my status bar. I'd be interested in a debloated stock rom with HD calling if you can throw in the status bar that's icing on the cake.
Sorry for not checking the thread lately. I'm still trying to figure out how to make this work. I have some ideas, but nothing concrete yet.
This isn't going to work. DM-Verity checks will cause the phone not to boot once the original kernel is flashed back. If there is even a byte changed in the system partition it will make the hash invalid and cause the DM-Verity check to fail. The only debloating you can possibly do is simply disabling packages. (In the event of not wanting the Engineering kernel/root.)
