Doze (battery optimisation) apparently not working across ROMs - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, apparently, Doze is not working for me. When I go to the battery optimisation page, select "All apps", then back out of the settings and go in again, it's as if I'd never selected anything at all. I've made a video: Link.
This happens in PureNexus and the CM13 ROM, with the only common denominator being OpenGApps and some apps via Titanium Backup.

Apparently, this happens with completely stock CM13 w/o GApps or restores, too.

I don't see what the problem you're having is even with the video.
When you select "All Apps" it shows all as "Optimizing battery use" except for "Google Play Services" which can't be optimized.

The problem is when I back out of the menu and go back into it, all the apps disappear from optimisation. Is that supposed to happen?

Yeah, of course.
The first page when going into the Battery optimization shows the apps NOT optimized, you have to manually select the All apps tab each time to see all the apps that are optimized.
Its the same idea when you go into your settings, the first thing that always shows up is the settings page, not the last setting tab you were in last time.

Ahh, okay, my bad. Thanks.
I thought it said that apps are not optimized, instead of showing the not optimized apps.
Thanks a bunch

I don't think that's accurate. I think they really are NOT optimizing.

Clarissa: I'm sorry to learn that you are having some difficulties with device but I will be glad to help you with it.
Ryan: Settings>Menu>Battery>Battery Optimization>
Ryan: At this point, all apps are grayed out and they say "Battery Optimization Not Available". Not just google play, literally every single app.
Ryan: There is a little arrow with a menu, the choices are "Not Optimized" and "All Apps"
Ryan: So I select "All Apps"
Clarissa: I do apologized for that.
Ryan: At this point, all of the apps say "Optimizing Battery Use"

Ryan: are you ****ing kidding me
Clarissa: I do apologized.
Ryan: i dont give a **** if you apologize or not, you didn't even attempt to solve this. im guessing you just failed the Turing Test.

OK, What Did I Do Now!

Bragged to the apple world how great my battery is, now I musta turned something on that's killing it quickly.
Look at the percentage of Android OS in the first, then the 2nd screen shot.
How do I figure out what is killing it?

OK I did that, but I'm sure I did not put all three of the checkmarks on, (I think 1 or 2 of them were checked when new).
My guess is that it's "google location service" ?????

Who knows of a good app that can let the user know which apps are drawing how much juice?

"Use wireless networks" ....................... WOW, what a battery killer !!!
This little check mark makes an unbelievable difference in battery productivity. I'm mean "really", (like a whole new device with it unchecked).
I am on Ml9.
Do you folks have a preference as to which battery app I should download?

Fix for Samsung Galaxy S4 Lollipop Bugs

Well first of all, i don't know if this works for other android phones but it fixed bugs on my S4 lollipop version.
Which i believe it will do because most of android have developer mode and have the "do not keep activities" on settings.
Bugs/problems are:
Keyboard auto hide while typing
Apps hangs then closes anytime
Phone automatically goes back to home then wallpaper changes on its default wallpaper.
••if you're having the same problem or have some if these problems, you can try this••
Steps :
1. Go to settings > more > developer option
(If you dont have "developer option". Go to Settings > more > About device. Look for "Build number" and tap it 12 times.
2. Swipe down and find "Do not keep activities".
3. Enable/Check it.
Done! Please leave a reply if it works on your phone. Thanks

"Do not keep activities" means that, every time you leave an app, it will close it. This means that the app won't stay in the cache.

I know.. And maybe the reason why apps crashes is because of apps that opened before are still active.

It's called multitasking. Multitasking means doing X different things at the same time. This also implies that the apps do not close once you switch to another. Otherwise it's just exiting and entering a different app.
The S4 should be able to run a several apps at the same time without running out of memory, without killing them or without them crashing.
Hearing the various bugs about the Samsung lollipop, I say it's better to switch to AOSP roms. At least you also get good performance from them. Unlike the Touchwiz roms..

Is this malicious?

A week or two ago I started getting this strange pop-up that I've never seen before. I've clicked on the back button which makes it vanish, and when hitting the task switcher button it disappears. I had removed everything I installed over the last month and still it's here.
Any idea what this is?

Maybe scan your phone with an app like CM Security. See if that helps.
If it were me and that didn't work I would wipe my phone and reinstall the OS (Make sure you know what you're doing if you choose this)
I Googled "daily summary" and some people said this app has one, but I don't see anything in the screenshots or description about it.. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cootek.smartinputv5&hl=en

Never seen this app before, scan through your apps under installed applications and remove anything you don't want or need. This is not an app that comes with the system that I'm familiar with. Best to get rid.. If it is something normal, I certainly have never seen it.

I've scanned my phone with just about every security app in the play store and nothing, but I think fury figured it out!
I couldn't find which app was displaying the daily summary but I do have TouchPal installed. I did a search on this and the timeline matches. I too couldn't find screenshots of others but timelines and descriptions are dead on! I'm going to remove TouchPal and go back to Swype (I hope the bugs are fixed!) and see if it goes away.
Thanks everyone!
Hahaha I feel like an idiot! I just got the daily summary again, I scrolled to the bottom and in small letters it says "Powered by TouchPal" haha
Glad to help.

In the hope that this might help you (if it's not too late) or anybody else who reads this, give the following a try:
-- Enable Developer Options (tap Settings > About Phone > Build number 7 times).
-- In Developer Options, tap "Running services".
-- Look for either "Motorola Update Services" or "Device Management" or something similar.
-- STOP the Ota service.
-- You'll have to do this every time you restart the phone.
I haven't gotten an OTA download yet, even when connecting to PC and running Motorola Device Manager and letting it check for updates. The result I got for that was:
There are no updates for your device at this time.
Current version:
24.14.24.griffin_verizon.verizon.en.US
Disclaimer: This seems to work on a (Verizon/carrier-unlocked) XT1650 that's still running the original (MCL24.203-22) first release for the Moto Z Force Droid. Depending on version and exact model, your mileage may vary.

That loading a different version of motocare & motochekin no longer works, the phone says "app appears corrupt", unless the downloads are bad it won't load on my Z force. Verizon really sucks , I buy my own device and they tell me what I can do with it, really blows, hate verizon

You tried both fake checkin apps?
Post your your stock motocheckin app please.
Use Super Manager, app manager. I linked it in my op.
I was able to go into my settings and disable all permissions for the moto care update app. If it still pops up a notification that the install is ready, you can long press on the notification and then click the little "i" symbol on the right and disable notifications for that app. Unfortunately it has already downloaded the update so it's on my phone as 3.6GB worth of space being used and I'm not able to click the options to remove the data. It's not installing, but still taking up the space.

So you installed motocheckin after the update got downloaded to (/cache?) the phone.
Well that sucks!

WhatsApp connectivity S8

Hey guys!
I just moved from a rooted LG G4 running Lollipop to the S8 Exynos. It really seems to be a great phone but I'm having issues with WhatsApp.
Sometimes I feel like the messages aren't really coming up in time, I can open the app and see no new message, close the app, open it again and it will reconnect and show me new messages.
It is even more noticeable while using the WhatsApp desktop program on Windows 10. I see a lot of yellow messages saying I'm not connected to the phone OR when I send a messages I see the "clock" instead of the single-double check right away.
My WiFi setting is set to "Always".
I'm not using any battery save option from the phone.
I installed Greenify (not rooted) but WhatsApp is not in the list to hibernate
Any ideas of what is going on? I didn't have this problem on the G4.
have you added whatsapp into the 'unmonitored apps' section in battery settings?
Can you check BBS and see if WA is using crazy amount of sensor usage? Mine is. I had to turn off battery optimization for WA to work.

Sorry, what is BBS?
I've been playing and trying to figure out what is going on. I found out that my phone is running on "optimized" and not in High Performance, Game or Entertainment. Do you guys think this has something to do with it? It shouldn't be this way right? I also have WhatsApp set to ignore any battery save option, according to the app options.
Also, yesterday I turned off my router. I received a message just before turning it off and I saw the notification on the Windows program like I usually do but it took a couple of minutes for the phone to let me know I received a notification, even though the phone had no connection to the internet. lol what?

Thanks! I downloaded the app but I need to do the ADB thing and I left the USB cable at home lol (now I need to buy multiple ones and aren't cheap)
I also noticed that I do receive the visual notifications (like in the notification bar) but the sound and LED notification comes way later.
Anyone solve the sensor issues
I was finally able to solve this problem and decided to put how I did it in case anyone can benefit from it.
I did check that Whatsapp was listed as "Unmonitored apps" in the battery section of device manager, but still had the problem. After further internet research I noticed that people where pointing to the Android's Optimize battery section, which seems that is doing a very similar functionality but is accessed from a completely different place, so make sure Whatsapp is not being "optimized" from here either.
To find this section go to Settings-> Apps -> Click the 3 Dots menu in the top right -> Special access -> Optimize battery usage -> Select "All apps" from the dropdown menu. In here, make sure Whatsapp and any other app that you cannot risk to go to sleep unintended shows as disabled (not being optimized).
Hope this helps someone with this disconnections.
