What is the reason for the multuple thread closings in this forum lately.
I was under the impression that a "forum" was a place for open discussion and opinion.
It seems that we now have moderators among us that close threads based on their opinion rather than the relevance of the discussion contained within them.
There are both positive and negative reactions to the X10 and its progression or lack thereof.
These posts are in the general section of the respective forum and should be left open for contribution.
I am not condonig flaming or childish rants but open and intelligent discussion makes good reading.
If moderators are intent on cleaning up the forum, then archiving old threads should be the priority.
Moderator, please close this thread...
I don't know why the mods closed some threads based on discussion of 2.1 features, rumours etc, or why they banned iead1, lonelee and fm1776 (well... not really fm1776)
But I do agree with them closing threads that are started by people who don't bother to search and repeatedly ask the same question over and over again, like:
- When are we getting 2.1
- Is there Multitouch in 2.1
- How do i root my phone
- I'm so sick of my x10
- I sold my x10, bye forum (this is the one that irritates me the most)
this 2.1 delays make this forum one of most hostile places that I visit regularly. And like almost everyone here, I just visit looking for some info about the upgrades.

That's the problem, there isn't any "open and intelligent discussion." All I see is "SE Sux," "good bye SE, hello [brand name]" and all the other "emotional" comments rather than facts.
Also the more useless threads like this one remaining open slow the XDA server down.
MOD's please close this thread.
P.S that's what the sticky's are for, but nobody ever reads them.
Q. why do mods close the threads:
A. there are many reasons..
1. New threads are opened even when threads already exist which cater to similar discussions. if a person does a search, i m sure he will find a thread to post his matter in.
2. this is a device forum.. threads opened are sum-times absolutely unrelated to the device. now such threads are breeding grounds for flame wars etc and we dont want such threads.
3. most threads are ending up in flame wars... unable to control such flame wars results in closing/deltion of such threads.
i hope i have answered your questions.

THREAD CLOSED..
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to make a note of how this category thread compares to the rest. I have had plenty of android phones in the past, all being HTC. This is my first Motorola handset, and it is by far my favorite. The developers for this phone are gods among men! And yet I see more disrespect day-to-day in these threads than I do helpful comments regarding the development projects! XDA has long been my number one site for all development collaboration and needed help for the android platform, and never have I encountered so much flaming as in the Motorola ATRIX forums. I do not know if this is turning to be the century of the trolls, but I feel bad for the developers and programmers that have to deal with these put downs, even though they are putting out so much VOLUNTARY work for the community.
So, if you are reading this, let's try and think twice before posting on development threads. It is not the place for harassment, flaming, disrespect, or any hurtful suggestion, as is any other place.
Thanks.
Yes! So much flaming on xda, no wonder devs put their work on other sites

It is well known that the Fascinate forums have been quiet. Many people have moved on to different phones and forums. In fact, it seemed like the Fascinate forums would wither away.
Then something changed. Enyo came to these forums and reinvigorated them and brought them back to their former glory. Gone were the days of few posts and nothing interesting. Good times were back again. ROMS were released. Lulz were had.
Then the dark clouds of oppression began to gather once more. Forum users complained that other users complained too much. People began to fail to see humor in life and started reporting Enyo's threads. The threads that have given us so much joy and are quite frankly one of the few reasons many of us even come to xda any more have been closed.
So, should xda continue to close Enyo's threads?
No. I enjoy shanangens and asshatery.

No way his threads take xda to a me level of entertainment with many lols. They are way to much fun. Won't be surprised if this thread gets closed as well

Keep the threads going! Till the truth comes out. They are very interesting. Maybe he is sincerely trying his best to learn how. The whole problem is, his problem with the truth, if he would have said look I'm learning, i can't make any promises, have patience with me etc. It would be whole different ball game. But hey let him learn.

I imagine this thread will be closed as well, unfortunately Just ask Old Man James what happened when he petitioned to have the "poll" thread reopened
Has anyone seen John Connor?
This thread isn't concerned with retroactively overturning decisions like that poll was. This thread is taking a poll on the general consensus for prospective policy.
No keep them open! Im finding this stuff to be full of lulz. At first I was a bit uptight about the flaming, but the more enyo posts, the more he brings it on himself. I respect the fact he is putting a effort into bringing the fascinate commmunity more roms, but he could stand to be a bit more tactful with his threads/posts. Then again maybe enyo is a know dev that created another account to mess with us abit...you guys got me thinking now. who is enyo actually...the unsolved mysteries of xda lol.

I can try to create some lulz threads of my own, but I could never hope to attain to Enyo's level of mastery and sheer comedic dominance

All this thread closing has to be affecting morale. I need him in good spirits so we can get a Honeycome port on our Gameboy Colors.
Enyo is a great developer of roms. What else would 25/16 of Fascinate users use? I look forward to his webOS ROM.
all i can say at this point is that i only closed one of enyo's threads and it was not for my own opinion or any user reports, but enyo himself requested the closing. as the op of that specific thread he was entitled to that, just like any noobs that posts a [Q] thread can demand to have it closed or deleted once they have the answers they wanted or for whatever other reason there might be.
Also, as stated on another thread before, personally, i don't mind a little off-topic posting, fun and general discussion. after all, no tv and no beer make homer something something...
however, one must not forget that xda-dev has 4 million users, one million threads and the reputation of being THE smartphone community, THE go-to forum for news, apps, tweaks, roms and hacks and that is something that should be kept that way. new users should not get the impression that all this is, is flaming, trolling and memes. there are other places on the internet for that. just look at what happened to the comments on engadget, or engadget altogether.
so, to a certain point, you can keep having fun, but before you post, please think about the big picture, whether your post is really necessary and what would happen, if everybody here posted like that and useful information would be buried under tons of crap, what happens to users that need actual help with their semi-broken devices and all they find is lulz.
So, to get back to the question at hand:
- i believe that any thread starter should be entitled to decide, whether or not his/her thread should be closed
- if there are too many reports by other users about a thread getting out of hand, it should not be closed, but the reported posts should be deleted and the users should eventually be infracted. in general, if it was not the op, that was reported, he/she should not suffer for having their thread hijacked
- this thread, as well as the other poll will neither be closed nor deleted YET, as you are free to discuss issues like this, but once these polls had a run of a week or two, there should be enough results in on how the community feels, and i will follow the results. if this turns out to be another troll thread, it will be closed /deleted before that.

I agree with you man... specially the last part that i bolded and underlined...
but it turns out most/all of these threads turn into people trolling or flaming. it is really really starting to get out of hand and i am getting tired of deleting posts by the tens. and then coming back to the same thread 2 hours later to clean out more junk posts....
regarding ENYO's threads. Him and i have traded pm's and we have agreed to leave the threads closed until he can post some evidence or links regarding his work. If i just reopen them, you trolls and flamers are just gonna start up again, so his threads remain closed until then.
@blobloblaw1 I don't appreciate you opening threads regarding this topic. i know you can discuss this and you aren't breaking any rules but i think you know this is just gonna start more flaming and ultimatly end up in a flame war.

I'd prefer to have the conversation and hope that we are all mature enough to handle it rather than stifle discussion because we fear that something annoying might happen. Regardless, discussion on the issue will happen and if that discussion isn't here, it's going to spill over into the ROM threads. Off topic chatter in ROM threads is infinitely more annoying in most people's opinions.
I guess the news that has come out is that the threads were only closed due to OP (Enyo) asking them to be closed. So anyway, this is more of a non-happening than it seemed.

fwiw, (and this is just me talking out loud about my own preferences) hype threads shouldnt be allowed or be limited or something
the vast majority of trolling/flaming results from them
i consider myself a legit developer (although xda doesnt seem to want to recognize me as such currently but w/e) and at best ill occasionally put sneak peak pics/coming soon stuff in existing rom threads that i alread maintain....i dont start 5 bazillion threads with ridiculous claims like 243/79ths of the community use my teams work, or just hype up roms that may or may not see the light of day
granted i enjoy the lulz that are associated with all of it, but it seems the main problem isnt going away, which is one particular individual constantly repeating his/hers same mistakes
just label his as waste of time
I've decided to post this regardless of the potential consequences to my membership here. To the mods, you've now closed airbus360's ICS thread despite a final warning to members that continued off-topic posts in violation of forum policy would be enforced. Despite this, instead, mods have locked the entire thread. This site has progressively become a zoo and TBH it is the fault of the site staff.

Personally its idiotic posters who wreck the forum .
not saying this is an idiotic post as i dont know the subject in question .
One has only to read posts on the forum to realize its hard to be a developers forum when its full of kindergarten users .
Mods don't get paid and there are few if any volunteers from the mass of users .
jje
codeworkx sums it up for you in one of the last posts in that thread. I believe it wasn't closed because of spam, rather an incompetent, donation requesting developer giving false hopes to the uninformed.
I fully understand this having direct experience with forum admin/mod duties on, dare I say, BlackBerry forums. Idiotic posts are specifically for site staff to manage, the continued bantering allowed in response to an individual idiotic post is a significant contributor, as is the elitist attitudes of some. That's all I'm saying (P.S. Your username seems familiar to me...).

Crachel (site moderator) gave this warning before closing the thread.
'Wow, cifs module affects wifi? I'm more amazed everyday at this thread and the absolute nonsense being spewed from here. Your claims of what you're fixing would be in the kernel making your next "release" require source per GPL. So go ahead and upload/link that too or I'm locking this thread to put these noobs out of their misery'.

P.S. Your not a lemming, people don't NEED to donate anything, and to be honest, no disrespect, but codeworkx now jumping in and essentially hijacking the thread I'm sure is against forum policy as well. No I'm ready to be crucified lmao.

site staff should make it mandatory to display every users age, then we can really see how young those people are.
Did you guys really think that one lone developer would be able to pull off something the entire Hacksung team wasn't able to do (without kernel sources?)
What codeworkx did what right, IMO.
What XDA needs is more serious developers, not little kids trying to do something that's way beyond their reach. I've read nearly all the pages in that thread and it was a complete joke. I'm so glad that thread got locked.
All I saw from airbus was asking for donations, asking for other people to compile the builds, posts about failed builds and some pretty embarrasing theories as to why something wasn't working.
I'm all for this site being a learning ground for everyone who wants to develop, but there should be a special section for that. He is just not experienced enough to pull off a fully working ICS AOSP ROM for the GS2, and with that in mind, he shouldn't be allowed to pull wool over all the users' eyes.
Cool down bro .... nothings lost ! both teamhacksung and airbus are all at the same level so unless sammy can give them a proper workable build none of those guys are gonna fork out anything usable.
No one apart from sammy can fix stuff on there devices as the kernel source is still closed sourced so i would say at this point , there no use in ranting on why a ASOP or CM rom is not released or closed ! ...
I you still want to vent your anger vent at sammy for not releasing the source.
First of all, the thread was not a dev thread, it was a "dogs and cats in heat" hostage situation. 156 pages of nothing, over nothing and for nothing. While I can't comment on Airbus360's competence, he did stirred the waters by achieving a decent build of ICS - though no audio, cameras and SD. It doesn't matter how he did it- it's all part of GPL game. Saying that wifi is broken because of cifs.ko(or whatever cifs was he talking about) provided some clues for the devs.
Codeworkx said what he said, so if that's true, the work of Airbus360 can be replicated easily in a matter of minutes - given the fact that everybody coming here should have a clue about github and kernels.
What DOES matter is how people expect XDA to be a community for all.
IT IS NOT. IT HAS NEVER BEEN, NOR WILL IT BE.
It's open for a lot to read and here,@reading, it all should be stopped. Read, read, understand, read more and maybe, maybe then, post something, post something USEFUL. We don't pay for servers, nor we see a flood of banners here.
It's not a Sammy/HTC/ HP support forum.
2 things killing the sgs2 forum
Increasing number of:
1. n00b devs asking for donations for kanging
2. n00bs that just wont read
The culprits are getting away with it, on a daily basis.

This is unfortunately true in particular your second point, the same questions being asked over and over again, even last year on the HD2 forums we had this issue but it's become much worse in 2011 and i think when newbies register they should have be given a list of FAQ's and told to search the forum for any questions they might have where the chances are they will find the answer and only if they cant then start a thread where people will help, failure to do that should result in infractions leading to bannings,it may sound harsh but i believe it would be effective.
Well I am of the mindset to simply provide a noob with a reply or information regarding their question while others choose to gang up, berate and rudely direct them to search for themselves, c'est la vie. All of this contributes to a cluttered and chaotic thread. We were all noobs once, remember that.

This is what I was partly referring to, mods provided a final warning that infractions would be handed down to individual users, instead the entire thread was closed. Make up your minds.

Unfortunately whilst we're all indeed noobs once, some of us read and search, rather than post new threads.
I've been following airbus twitter for quite a while now and something that bothered me after some time was the numerous attempts for donations while the progress was none... saying that he needed more ram... showing his laptop going berserk while compiling... posting pictures and links of the new computer he needed... and his progress was always two steps behind cm9 while he owes me nothing and
i respect his work even though he didn't accomplished nothing new he's learning from the experience and i had some fun following him on twitter. the subliminal donation messages became very annoying after a while... and why post a dozen threads of alpha roms where none is daily material ? i don't understand it ...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
to add my opinion here, airbus never asked for a donation directly or never gave assurance that he will fix all the existing problems. Normally its the othe forum members who flooded the thread with ETA and some OT discussion. preferably the mod could have cleaned the thread instead of closing it, i feel like a growing dev is being supressed. no offense to any one, just my opinion though

Hello,
Looking at how f*cked up the development thread , I'm thinking of starting this discussion thread. Hoping that the development thread become less cluttered. You can discuss about everything about Android 5.0 port for our Galaxy S3 Mini.
Discussion Rules
Always obey the XDA forum rules and Samsung Team Moderation rules.
Please read XDA "Mantra" , before you start arguing.
Please, think twice.
Please, respect the developer. You can also start to donate them.
You can discuss anything about Android 5.0 Lollipop on Galaxy S3 Mini. If you have development related post, you can considering to post it on @New Macław's thread. I'm also hoping that he see this thread too, if you post something like bugs.
No Begging and No ETA asking, you should respect the developer.
You can start to that arguing or debating on something really "You think, you are talking development things. But really it isn't, it's called as flaming." Please, not in this thread, or not even in XDA.
