Except it I misunderstood the last one as it's honestly vague and left me to google how to and I failed clearly. Now the phone sits there flashing the front LED quickly through all the colors and I can't get into anything, I don't think it's being detected by my computer and I'd really like to have my phone back and working. Is there anything I can do?
I can barely get to the sharp logo if I power it on and hit volume down for a split second but then it goes flashing red green blue and white.
I asked in that thread but it's been pointless no one even acknowledged and said if I could or not, a simple answer could be better than false hope. It's the only phone I have which I don't need all that frequently but it would be nice to have it back by leaps and bounds.
Try holding all three buttons until the phone keeps buzzing, then release and hold power + vol down
Right to be clear:
POWER + VOL UP + VOL DOWN until it vibrates constantly, release all of the buttons then press POWER + VOL DOWN?
OR:
POWER + VOL UP + VOL DOWN until it vibrates constantly then release VOL UP?
Which state, while it's rapidly switching colors on the LED? When it's plugged into a computer what exactly are the requirements? I've all of those and I'm still unable to do anything with it.
Bump, still having massive issues.
Still unable to get into anything, LED constantly flashing regardless of keypresses and no screen activity.
Bump, still no fix.

I'm not sure if it will fix your issue, but mine did a similar thing, I can't remember if I held volume up volume down and power or just volume down and power, but with the phone unplugged and status light on I had to hold it for about a solid 2 minutes. It shook once for a split second, then about 5 seconds, then about 30 and let all the buttons go. That (I'm pretty sure) forces an actual power down, when your phone will normally try to keep power to the SIM, and some ram)
Then with the phone still unplugged and off hold volume down and power it will shake once then the Sharp logo will appear and it will shake a second time and you can let it go. With any luck you will either be in TWRP or your stock recovery mode
You don't need all 3 buttons, just run the tewilove root306sh app it will load stuff and show a pervy pic, wait until the bar is all the way green then wait a few more to be safe. Then with phone unplugged hold power + vol down for a considerable amount of time let go of both once the screen turns off. No ow that it's off, hold the same 2 buttons and it will boot up into TWRP installation you won't need to touch anything. It will boot back into Android you can go to about phone and see your kernel if it worked it has root in the name. Then install SuperSU like old days, yes weird wording, but either download superuser, SuperSU, whatever root managers install app or zip and power down the phone, power back on holding power + vol down you can let go the 2nd time it bibrates and install / flash your root manager.

hello,i bought a htc hero today,it's updated to 2.1 android
but i see that each time i hit the back button it reacts as it's been hit twice. When i am in a menu or a program and i click the back button it sends me to the homescreen and not Back in the previous menu.It is kinda annoying,i reseted to factory settings and it's still the same.Does anyone know why this happens and how to change it?
ps.and one more question-the volume up key does not pump up the volume,it reacts, when i press it the volume meter shows on the screen but stays at the same position and does not increase, while the volume down button works well, any ideas about this?
I hope someone answers to my question, thanks in advance
Sounds like you might have an actual problem with the button itself, sending a double press message to the phone every time you press it once. Not much anyone here can do.
Return your phone to where you got it for a replacement?
crap,i was hoping it could be a problem with the rom : (
best thing to do is do a factory reset, if that doesnt work send it back
same problem
I have the EXACT same problem as described. Back button reacts as if I press it twice (or more). And when I click volume up, the volume just bounces back immediately. Everything else is perfectly ok.
Which rom are you on?
I am running on 2.1
You guys can add me to the list, I have the same thing here.
I also have an additional problem, my power button doesnt works, I almost think it is always in the on position.
I would intermittently get a power down screen.
It actually has its bright moments when it works just fine. Sometimes just one time, some times even for a few minutes or maybe an hour. And then, for apparantly no reason, it goes back to not working again.

Well to answer my own question, it would appear the the bottom of my phone got wet. There was obvious corrosion on the connection for the buttons. I took the phone apart, cleaned all of the connections with electronics alcohol and when it went back together, the button issues are resolved.
See below for the blurry (sorry phone pics) before cleaning pics.

Very interesting. I wonder whether this could fix the bottom of the screen not responding issues too?
Don't like your power button? Hold the volume up key and press the camera button all the way down. Also works vice versa - hold down camera button, push volume up. Random discovery.
Nice, but still takes "a lot of effort" )
That's a nice fail-safe in case the power button breaks.
this didnt work for me...
didnt work for me either
I hae noticed that some of these key combinations "stop working" after a reboot. For instance, I used to be able to wake the phone by double-clicking the "up" button. After a reboot, this went away. Now it somewhat works if I quadruple-click the vol. up button, but not conistently. If the Camera + up stops working after reboot, I'll post. I *do* have pattern lock enabled, not sure if that affects it.

I would like to thank everybody who answered and gave me the courage to open this phone and repair my power button by myself !!
The power button shown in second post was not working properly
It has two pins which short the PCB and the screen gets on
my power button was not able to provide a path for current to flow when it was pressed .
so i opened the phone , took out the power button
the power button has some tape over it so removed the tape
i saw that Power button had two rings and a circular metal plate which connects the two rings so that current can pass when pressed
I repositioned the metal plate so that it can completely cover the two rings and again put some tape on the ring .
and also expanded the two golden pins on the power button so that they can touch PCB easily
I reassembled the phone and tried to press the power button and it started working !!!:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
but the power button is very weak as compared to what i had earlier but I am afraid that the problem could return in future !!
Here is what had happened !!
My phone's power button is not working
Nothing happens when I press it
I was reapplying my wet screen protector and after that when I tried to press the power button I noticed that the power button is not working Maybe some soap water has entered the device or I might have pressed the phone too hard in order too remove the excess water
so I tried to put it under hairdryer after that for 10 mins but no results
The phone is running I connected the phone to charger and the screen turned on showed 56% battery remaining
I am able to use the phone touch is working everything else is working
Today I went to a technician ,he opened my device and told me that there is some shorted in PCB but I dont trust him
He tried to touch these two contacts ( the upper circle ) at the same time with a Tweezers and the power menu came and screen turned off

Sounds like some on the water (or whatever you used to apply the screen protector) got inside the phone, and damaged the switch.
Since your phone is still working, and reponds on connecting the two contact points, i assume the water did not damage the motherboard.
Seems like you need to buy a replacement switch. Google it or look on Ebay for it.

This^^^. Also if you don't feel comfortable replacing/repairing it yourself, you can RMA it.
Hopefully you can get it fixed, just make sure that next time that you try to apply a wet application screen protector you leave the device off for at least 12 hours. Apply it over night.

If it is water damage I can't see it being accepted for rma

take that power button out and dip it in isopropyl alcohol/petrol,clean dry it with a brush/cloth and place it back, see if that brings it back to life..
Is this true ?
Thanks
I went to Technician .He opened the phone and did almost nothing
He told me that PCB is shorted but if so then how come everything else is working other than power button ?
Can the can the phone be fully working other than the power button when the PCB is shorted ???
was he lying or speaking truth ??
It seems you already got the answers you were looking for - consider ordering a replacement switch as mumaster20 suggested.
There's no need for you to post links to this thread elsewhere.
Yo can just clean the power button contacts & the contacts on the PCB and it should work, after that try the button before assembling the phone

Yes , I wont
So I think that the button is not able to make contact with these two contacts on the PCB is that the mechanism ??
Or is the button (the two golden pins) always in contact and create a short only when button is pressed ??.
It would be really helpful if someone can answer that .
Thanks will be given .

When you press the power button it shorts the two contacts together so it must be clean, my guess is that you will find some salt from the water on the button contact which should be very easy to clean
thanks

Ok thanks a lot !!
did what was said
Today I opened my Nexus 4
Did what was said . Cleaned all contacts and especially the power button !!
assembled everything back !!
Everything else is working now except the power button
One thing I observed is that even when I touched the two golden pins of power button using tweezers the screen turns on !!
So I think my power button is defective !!
So can anybody provide me a link where I can buy a power button .
or maybe anyone whose device is not working and may want to sell his power button .

I do the same and button is OK again.
All the problem of this button is when the glue from the tape go to contacts and make bad contact. When you removes a half of tape, clean the internal contacts with alcohol and pass WD40 with cotton swab, the button is OK again. After this, put the tape on their place again. Dont need to put more tape, only use their original tape.
My phone was working fine. I was running completely stock, but rooted with absolutely no changes to anything. I went to bed and woke up and I saw the green light indicating a full charge. However, nothing happens when I press the power button. It does not respond to anything other than a vibration when I press volume up and down, plus the power button. It doesn't even start to boot or make any sound. It does not respond to the charging cord either. Nor will it respond to ADB. Any ideas other than sending it to HTC?
Try holding power + volume down. The lights at the bottom should start flashing, I think mine flash 14 times and then I get a reboot. Maybe volume up instead but I think it's volume down.
Possibly your usb-c cord is bad. Try to charge it with another cord for a while and try what silverzero said. Hold volume down and power together for a min and see if you can get into recovery.
Hi everyone,
I'm having problems with my Android head unit. It's only three months old and it worked kind of fine for what I expected from a +- €200,- device.

What is the problem?
The device does not boot. when the ignition is turned on, the unit makes the hard disk/CD noise but the screen remains black. Nothing loads.. Not the usual BMW and android logo's.. nothing happens.
Things that do work
The button lights still work and they automatically turn on with my car lighting. The reverse camera also works and the screen automatically switches to reverse camera when the car is put in reverse gear.
So the screen seems fine and it seems to react to signals from my car. but other then the button lighting and the reverse camera, the unit does not respond to anything! Not a single button.
The only way to turn it of is by using the reset button. After using the reset (RST) button the unit automatically restarts.
it does not react to the POWER button or any other buttons, like I said.
addiotional info:
- the blue/white wire, I think its from the amplifier, is directly connected to the red power wire from the connector plug. a common way to power the amplifier. shouldn't be anything special but let me just mention it.
- I've tried resetting it by connecting a keyboard and using the ALT GR+prnt Scrn, etc. combination. this did not work
- I've tried the RST and Power button combination. this did not work.
- I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting the unit from the car, even for longer periods of time. Did not work.
in rare cases I can hear the radio, with a black screen still. but then I would still be unable to change the volume or change the station or anything else
in rare, rare cases I get the message 'no signal' with the radio playing in the background
in even rarer cases I can see the home screen for a split second... but then it fades to black again
what can I do? should I throw the whole thing away..? my guess is that there is something wrong with the software.. like it crashed badly or something. I don't know. im good at following instructions, not so good at doing my own IT discovery's..
like to hear it from you guys
Hi.. did u find the solution?
