Hi I wanted to buy this pone from amazon, but the thing is that I would buy the sprint versiĆ³n with no contract and I don't live in the US, so my question is, can I unlock this pone to use it with any other company? like Movistar? I read that the pone was GSM so I thought it would be posible, however I won't take the risk of paying 590 dollars for a pone that I can't use, thanks

What do you mean if I dont know dont tell? What does that supposed to mean?
I KNOW my Cellular Networks!
Sprint is a CDMA Network!
The ONLY part about sprint that is NOT CDMA is LTE which the sim card slot is LOCKED to sprint.
They MIGHT be a fix but right now there is NOT. Some of the older phones like the Moto Photon its not LTE but its a world phone and people could flash a few things and make it work, But only EDGE in the USA anyway.
But as of right now and problay for a while its NOT going to work.

I expect Sprint will provide a method soon to unlock the GSM and UMTS functions in the phone to be able to use it internationally. However, I don't expect the GSM and UMTS functions to operate inside the US. Sprint has always disabld them on GSM capable Android and iOS devices it sells.
I don't see why it wouldn't work for you as long as you can get it unlocked.
Sprint is not going to unlock it for you unless you are a long time customer or have the phone with them for 90 days.
hyelton is completely wrong though.. the sim does authenticate lte on sprint but also acts as a gsm sim internationally.
you can also remove the sim and insert any international sim once unlocked providing the carrier uses the correct bands.

You are all kinds of WRONG.
Sprint's GS4 is fully capable of voice and data on international GSM/HSPA+/UMTS 850/900/1900/2100MHz networks. You have to request Sprint to unlock your phone's sim (or find a work around if you're not a Sprint customer), but once unlocked you can pop in any international sim and it will WORK JUST FINE on international GSM networks, they don't have to support LTE. Heck the only thing preventing the SG4 from working on US GSM networks is Sprint locked the Sim from using USofA GSM carrier sim cards.
As long as the OP can get their Sprint SG4 sim unlocked, they can pop in their international sim and use the GSM in their country NO PROBLEM like any other GSM phone.
SO ONCE AGAIN, Sprint's SG4 has a fully functioning GSM modem that supports international carrier GSM/HSPA+/UMTS 850/900/1900/2100MHz bands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You would think someone with almost 2,000 posts and who made a statement like "I KNOW my Cellular Networks!" would know better. Do yourself a huge favor and actually know what you're talking about before you go spouting off again, because you really made yourself look like an ignorant fool.

Well YES you can easily use your phone overseas, But it was POSTED in the Sprint Forum which is ONLY in the USA and in which using it does NOT apply in the USA. And to get the phone unlocked I`m not sure if a regular unlocking company would be able to do it someone with a sprint account would and it would be MUCH more trouble than just to pick up a ACTUAL GSM carriers Version of the phone.( I should had just said that to begin with) Its VERY pointless to TRY and want to use the sprint Version when they are SEVERAL OTHER varrients that are GSM they could have got to use.
EXCEPT... the op specifically said they wanted to purchase it from Amazon America to use on their country's GSM network.
Why they want to do that? WHO KNOWS, maybe it might be cheaper doing it this way, but that is what they want to do and despite all your unnecessary wrongful information, the OP can do what they asked as long as they can get the sim unlocked.

I sell on Amazon and Most people wont ship out of the USA on Amazon. Mostly only Candia but Ive tried ordering a lot of things overseas and 90% I cant as they wont ship here
Amazon sells the Sprint for $599 this is probably why. I bought mine at Best Buy and had them price match Amazon for that price.

Looks like everyone here is an expert in this matter but so far haven't seen a single link to reputable sources... OP call sprint international department and get answer straight from the carrier (888) 226-7212
Even IF the phone is capable of being used in GSM bands internationally, you would have to get it unlocked by sprint and they change policies all the time so just call..

I got my phone unlocked for international use. I contacted sprint international services. I was initially told that you have to be activated for at least 90 days before they could unlock the phone but would forward my request to some department. After one day I got a email that my phone has been unlocked.

Yea.... but it ONLY works internationally AND you have to be a sprint customer.
The POINT I have been trying to get across is that people need to understand Sprint is a CDMA carrier and ONLY relies on GSM for LTE. I think what people think is that they are solely a gsm carrier like most of the world is but its NOT

Hey guys, I'm getting my hands on my friend's Galaxy S4. He is on an AT&T plan and got then phone from them through an upgrade. I personally prefer Verizon. I was wondering if I could get some help on making his phone work for me. I have a SIM card and everything, currently using a RAZR MAXX. I've done a little looking around, and from what I gathered, the phone is capable of working with verizon, but I'll have to load a different kernel and ROM onto it. I've looked through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2295557 that thread and found some nice info, but I'm not yet confident enough in my knowledge to go through with it. I've decided on the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2305781 CLEANROM 1.6.5, but I don't know what else I'm going to need to have in order to make this phone work for me. I also don't know if I'll need to download the Verizion or the AT&T version of this. Thanks for all the help, I'm really wanting to make this work for me so I can actually get a powerhouse of a phone.

I'm not sure about that. ROM shouldn't matter too much, you just have to have it SIM unlocked and I believe it won't work too well due to the different frequencies between carriers and so you may not get LTE or something. Maybe someone can correct me though.

Verizon/Sprint phones use CDMA.
ATT/T-Mobile use GSM
I don't think you can use a CDMA phone on a GSM network and vice versa.
EDIT:
Per the replies below, it looks like it ispossible.
Here is a thread from the Verizon forums.
Also, if this WIKI page is correct, the Verizon S4 has both CDMA and GSM radio's where the ATT S4 only has a GSM radio.
The first thing to identify on the phone is whether or not it is on the stock AT&T ROM and what version that ROM is. If it is I337UCUAMF3 then changing the bootloader/kernal/rom is not even an option to begin with which means there would be no way to change out the modem to support other carrier bands (such as those used by Verizon). On top of that, although I have heard that the modem hardware is the same on all versions of the S4 I have not heard anyone confirm that they have successfully enabled CDMA services on the I337.

There are some that work on other networks without the need for modem changes. I read about some using the Verizon on AT&T, and I used the droid Bionic, a Verizon exclusive with a locked boot loader, on AT&T.

The strange thing is you can use a Verizon S4 on AT&T but you can't do it the other way around. Verizon phones all come unlocked, allowing you to use the phone anywhere around the world.
The AT&T S4 does not contain the CDMA chip allowing you to use it on the Verizon network, plus it has to do something with IMEI. If you give the IMEI to Verizon, they won't be able to locate which device you are trying to activate because it's not in the system. But if you use a Verizon S4 and put in a AT&T SIM card, you don't have to register the IMEI with AT&T or T-Mobile.

I can confirm that this is true about the verizon s4. I have a Verizon s4 and have used AT&T and straight talk on it. My brother uses that phone daily on his AT&T account.
I will test my AT&T s4 when I get around to finding my sim card.

I'm pretty sure you won't be able to use an AT&T S4 on Verizon because the AT&T S4 doesn't have the CDMA capabilities.

Yea I noticed that the ATT S4 doesn't have everything that the Verizon S4 has in the service menu. Like I can turn on all the different bands in the service menu, but on my ATT S4 I get restrictions on wcdma.
I'm new to all this. I traded a iPhone for the ATT version because I couldn't figure out how to make the Verizon version work on straight talk..
Not two days after I have the ATT I somehow got it working... Lol. So now I have two with unlocked bootloaders and sum unlocked...

I saw a similar thread to this, but it wasnt my same situation. I've been shopping for a LG G2 to work on verizon, found a dude on craigslist with what he says is an unlocked one, Now he says its a sprint one. But unlocked for any carrier....is this true? Like is this even possible? If so, is it going to work on verizon...100%? Like data 4g, 3g etc?
Thanks all!

Yes. Verizon years ago had a bring your own device policy that allowed you to register sprint devices on Verizon, but that was a long time ago.

So i am correct, that it will not work?
Don't bother.
CDMA carriers like Verizon and Sprint have a database of ESN's (serial numbers) that are approved for their network unlike GSM carriers like T-Mobile and AT&T where you can just pop in their respective SIM cards and use compatible unlocked GSM devices.
You can't just walk into a VZW store with a Sprint phone, go to the counter and tell the rep that you want to activate service with a (non-Verizon branded phone) Sprint phone. First of all, the ESN/MEID is not in their database, doesn't have any VZW prl (preferred roaming list) loaded, and in the case of LTE, isn't even compatible (VZW runs LTE on 700mhz, Sprint is on 800/1900/2500).
However, Sprint and VZW technically run their CDMA service (1xrtt, 3G EVDO) on compatible frequencies 800/850/1900, hence the reason their customers can roam off each other and vice versa. So technically it can work if VZW will accept the Sprint device ESN into their database and do all the backend OTA programming etc, but that's not going to happen. There's always the murky underworld of cloning, but i'll stop right here...
As for the person on Craigslist trying to urinate on you and convince you that it is raining, forget about him/her. It's likely that it might be unlocked, but that's only the GSM portion, for GSM carriers and not Verizon.
If you need a phone to use on Verizon, why not just get a Verizon phone and save yourself the hassle?
I have been doing research and searching these forums for a few days now, I'm trying to not be one of those people who ask questions that have been answered. But at this point I'm at the end of the road.
I bought a Sprint Galaxy S4, model SPH-L720.
I unlocked it using this method Sprint Galaxy S IV SPH-L720 SIM Unlock Method
Reverted back to MDC baseband and all that good stuff, just as instructed. It seemed to have went well without a hitch.
My question now is:
I want to buy one of these Verizon 4G Sim Activation Kits from walmart
Is it possible that I can buy one of those, insert the SIM into my unlocked Sprint S4, and have a working phone? I ask because I don't want to drop $50 if it doesn't have a chance of working. The instructions for this say that it will work with a VERIZON S4, but since my SPRINT S4 is unlocked, should that be okay?
I don't know much, but in my reading I found that Sprint and Verizon both use CDMA, not GSM. So I figured I had a better chance of this phone working if I go with Verizon because of this.
I am in the United States.
If you need any other information or screen shots please let me know, thank you for taking the time to help me out!!
EDIT: would it be possible to test it out, if one of my friends has a verizon phone under contract, and I took their SIM and inserted it into my phone?
Try it.
Like the guy above me said. Try it. One way to find out. Personally I don't think it would work. As the whole point of unlocking the sprint Gs4 is to use it on GSM networks. From what I know you have to flash the sprint phone to Verizon. Plus you WONT get LTE on Verizon because the bands are not supported. So you'll only get 3g.

thank you for the info! i'm just learning about all of this, so i don't have a firm grip on everything yet.
in the tutorial i used and linked above, the file I used with Odin was actually titled "S4 Flasher", so I believe I unlocked it and flashed it with this? Again, Im sorry, Ive tried searching and am just looking for verification if Im correct.
I'm not worried about LTE, 3G is fine really. Also, I'm not set on Verizon, I just want my phone to work, doesn't matter what network I'm using. If it would be "safer" or a better bet to get into a GSM prepaid, I will do that instead. I was just under the assumption (incorrectly probably lol) that since sprint is CDMA, that going to another CDMA carrier would be easier.
Cricket, Net10, StraightTalk, and AT&T etc are all available at the store I think if I go GSM
Again thanks for taking the time to help everyone!

I unlocked my sprint GS4 and went to Cricket. And I've been happier than when i was with Sprint (service wise). I have signal in 98% of the places I go to. Which is a HUGE improvement over sprint. And even though this phone only connects to HSPA+ which is capped at 3.5 Mbps its plenty fast for all my daily activities. So I recommend a GSM prepaid.
I want to purchase a Sprint GS 7 and sim unlock to use on GSM carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile.
What is the process official and other options for sim unlock.
Never had Sprint service before, thanks for your assistance.
First step is to not stick a sprint sim card in the phone. I played around with mine without a sim card and to get the stupid vr game promo i stuck the card in and next thing it did was install all the carrier garbage bloatware automatically and it changes the boot screen and to my understanding it sim locks to the carrier that the sim card uses. Complete bullsh!t I am irate and stuck with all of this garbage bloat courtesy of sprint and the locked bootloader thanks to samsung. Im returning mine
I bought my sprint s7 full price through best buy.
First thing I did was swap the sprint Sim with my AT&T Sim (testing first Sim inserted). Prompted with invalid Sim error.
Appears the sprint phones come with activation software pre-installed that locks it to their network. You need them to unlock it from their end, no unlock codes.
When I put the sprint Sim back in, it didn't install all the bloat. It installs everything if you activate the phone; unactivated Sim, no account.
According to sprint, the phone needs to be activated on the network for 50 days and paid in full to be unlocked. They unlocked mine without meeting those standard because of poor support from a rep before I bought it.
After you get it unlocked, you can just insert any sim (gsm/cdma) after?
I don't see any settings to change the network mode.
I'd like to know the same. I'm traveling over seas in less than two week and would like to use while over seas with the local carrier. Not so much concerned with using it with other carriers domestically though.
I'm also curious if the phone can be used for data on other carries once unlocked. I wonder because with my current Sprint GS5, Sprint unlocked it, but it does not work with data when over seas. Come to find out after a lot of research, there is no solution and everybody with unlocked Sprint GS5s also cannot get data to work without wifi.
OP, you may want to keep that in mind and do your research. If Sprint's GS7 is like their GS5, you will not be able to get data on the phone with other carriers even if unlocked, unless connected to wifi.
Yes, any Sim CDMA or GSM will work. And data works perfectly for me. The s7 is the same device for every carrier where the only thing that changes is the software.
Here's a screenshot of my sprint phone on cricket with data.

With the Sprint model, there will be LTE issues overseas depending on where you go and which carrier you use.

I went to UK in 2013, had my S4 with me and was able to get data. I was not, however, able to get fast LTE speeds. Sprint cripples their LTE bands on purpose for some reason so that they become less useful on many international carriers.

The main difference between models on each carrier are bloatware they add and LTE bands they add and delete. Sprint always gets rid of useful LTE bands like LTE 7 which is a popular worldwide band.

Correct. Cricket is owned by AT&T, a carrier who did not get rid of band 7, despite the fact that they use Sprint's 3G network as well as CDMA. Do you have bands 25 and 26 as well? If so, that would be great!

I don't actually. Knowing this I'm going to focus on attempting to add these bands (toggle them). Trying to get a hold of Sprint currently to get my MSL code.
The Galaxy S7 is DUC meaning it can be unlocked for domestic use, and it will automatically unlock tru a programming update sent OTA after the device has been active on the account(in good standing) for more than 50 days.

For those not in good standing, or who don't feel like waiting, find somebody with a Z3X-box, like myself, on craigslist. $45 (or usually in that area,) takes us 5-10 minutes, don't need root, and doesn't need to be clean. =]

##3282#
Just bought a sprint s7 yesterday since it was cheaper for me and had it unlock from an ebay listing for about $15. It was quick like 2 minutes and easy. Its done remotely on the person's end with your phone connected to computer. I'm using it on Tmobile and is working great. I get lte speeds and call quailty is great. Getting to the service menu above ##3282# you can edit the band priorities so you can have the wanted bands 1st, 2nd, and so forth. Just need the MSL# which they can get you.
If this is against the rules sorry, but just thought I give my experience with unlocking the sprint s7.
I'm trying to find detailed specs without luck, can someone please clarify which LTE bands the Sprint variant of the S7 has?
Please list all that are physically on the radio, and specify if they are actually available for use or blocked.
