Nexus 6P Black spot in Camera - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hoping someone might have an answer to this, it was working fine but all the sudden a black spot appeared out of no where. is there a way to fix this or RMA is the only option?

It looks like dirt to me ? It´s because of the shading. Are you sure that the lens is 100% clean and is this spot also visible if you film stuff ?

It does look like something got in there. I clean the lense and even gone as far as factory reset or tried different camera app. No go. What's strange is when going to video it's not there.
Scratching my head on this one.

Video changes the aspect ratio, try using different camera software and see what shows

Ouch. That's odd. I would suggest removing the visor but I wouldn't do it on my own. It's physical and not software related. How did anything get in there did you take the visor off before

Did you end up doing an RMA or fixing the problem another way? I just encounter the same thing. Saw someone else post on Reddit that they dealt with it too but after they dropped the phone it went away.

It's a piece of dust on one of the lenses or sensor. It doesn't show on video because it 's right up at the edge of the screen, and gets cut off with a different aspect ratio. Assuming you didn't damage it to allow dust to get in, you should be able to exchange it.

Is there ANY WAY to fix this?

My nexus 7 has been having a lot of issues. Is there anyway to fix the screen ripple and bleed? It has become a very big bother. I do not want to send it in. Thank you for your help
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
If your on a custom ROM try wipe data, cache and Dalvik cache, reboot and try. If the issue continues try a different ROM/kernel

Thanks, but isn't it a hardware problem? Thank you

If you take the back cover off and fiddle with the screws it can help a lot. Try removing all the screws from the side you're getting the backlight bleed at; the bleed seems to happen where there's warping of the screen caused by tension where the screws are too tight. The ripple you can probably do nothing about, I've had 6 units and they all ripple like hell.
Not being a smart ass or anything but why aren't you returning it? Why take it in your own hands to fix a defect and run the risk of voiding the warranty?

Blurry pictures

Anyone else noticing that when not in PERFECT lighting conditions pictures are blurry..
Yes - it's been driving me crazy... most of the time the pictures come out blurry. I've been messing around with different modes/settings and I cannot get a consistent clear picture. Pretty frustrating!
Take the sticker off the lense?

Yes, absolutely notice this. Brought it up in the other thread but no one thought it was worth checking. Have done tons of side by sides with Note 2 and honestly this camera is very touchy. Has a tiny field and it's often hard to see where that is in the pics. I really hope the camera gets a software update and it's not hardware because the camera has been the only thing I'm on the fence about. When you zoom in, even in good light, things in the taken pic get blurry and almost look like they have an effect.

Also, noticed right away. I thought maybe that I was just sleepy! lol, but what are the odds of a software update helping the issue?

Hopefully this new update that no one else seems to have gotten will help!!
Additionally, I feel that many times the camera has trouble focusing. Anyone else agree?

once i turned picture stabilazation off mine takes perfect pics
I tried turning mine off but seems the same.
Pictures in bright env. seem fine but indoors just flat out sucks.
I can hold my hand a little away from the camera a bit and it won't focus on it. If I tap to make it focus it sometimes turns green like it did but my hand is still blurry.
I hope they push a SW fix soon.
I don't understand it. How can you not catch some of this before release? Camera is a basic function of a smart phone...

Turn off image stabilization n see if that helps... dont think it has an effect on blurryness tho

May be an obvious question but has anyone tried some good 3rd party camera apps to see if it helps? Just a thought.

One thing I noticed with a Note 3: The auto-shake correct seems to do this. Try turning that off and it seemed to improve the quality.
Yeah I have this problem too, and just made a thread about it in the Q&A forum.

I really hope a update comes out to fix all this and it's not just poor HW :/
It's just sad that these basic obvious issues make it out the door.
They should have caught these things and I understand shipments went already but we should have had updates just waiting for us to fix em.
Oh well, time shall tell I guess. Sprint won't help I'm sure given how slow they are to push updates too...
Anyone mess with any video? How's that, clear, blurry mixture mess? lol
That prob has ability to be better or worse I guess. You've got 1080P mode and 4K HD, which when enabled seems to kill off a number of features.
I've not messed with it yet but just wondering.

You do realize Sprint is the best carrier in terms of updates.Just an FYI...
I simply dont get very good pictures in anything that isn't natural full daylight. Not necessarily blurry, just extremely grainy. But thats rather expected with most smartphones.

Im coming over from an iPhone 5 and noticed this immediately. The camera just flat out sucks!
My camera had a habit of switching to 6 mega pixels on its own for some reason. I have to constantly check to make sure it's still on 16 when I use it.

Build quality

Guys had my phone for about a week.
Im not too sure if this has been happening since i got it or not..
But if i gently shake my device it feels like something is loose around the camera module or in the camera
Can anyone confirm if this is a known thing?

That's normal. The rattle you hear is the auto focus mechanism moving. My S5 does that too as do several others.

The resolution in the 240fps mode is reduced to 720 as that's all the system can handle. The quality is reduced from normal HD video.

Wow, I haven't noticed that before but I just tried it 240fps on my phone and it's exactly the same as you. Perhaps it's because of the artificial light? I'm not sure.

It's been the same with any type of light the viewfinder actually shows that same quality when recording too. It concerns me as when looking at the below is such good quality

I'm not sure what would cause it. Have you got the new camera app that was released yesterday? I'm using that, perhaps it's a problem with that? I'll try it tomorrow in daylight again but yeah, 240fps looks a mess on mine.

You can uninstall updates in the app section using the top right hand corner 3 dots button. I just uninstalled it and quality is the same.

In that case I'm wondering is the camera at fault, normal video and photos are fine
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
I have a 5X also and used it the other day at sunset taking a 120fps slo-mogolf video and it did a great job. I just got my 6P 2 days ago and have tried the 240fps in great lighting outdoors and its far worse than the 5X at 120. Not liking this. I was expecting the opposite.
The slow motion needs a lot of light to be good quality. Since it's essentially taking 240 720p photos a second, its sensor won't receive much light per frame in low light situations.
The flickering occurs with artificial light because of AC electricity. Your lights actually dim and brighten with the changing direction of current, however it is mostly imperceptible by the human eye, but entirely perceptible by 240FPS!

The sun was as bright as it could be today when I took the 240. I guess I was expecting more. I will just stick to 120 or just take regular video and slow it down with Adobe.

I will get a picture once I get off work but I'm not sure how it happened. It's always in a case, but I take it off maybe once a day, which may have caused it but I'm really careful about that.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Does it look like this? If so go to the "Bent after 2 days" thread. I know it's not bent, so the title is misleading. But the "Bent" issue in that thread is only this issue.
Like this?
This only happened because it fell naked, it was 3ft drop though so I'm impressed.
Only got a little dent with it too.

This is how mine looks in the top left of the picture. Never been dropped out of the case.
I can't really see anything on the photo, it all blends in.
If you mean the thin plastic band that sits between the screen and the aluminium case then yes, that seems to have the characteristics of play dough, it is easily dented.

Agreed. That material is just a cushion.
Yes, I've had this as well. I took my 6P out of the case it's been in (pretty much since I got it) and the top right corner has lost some of the plastic. Never been dropped so not sure why it's happening.
