Not rushing, just asking! - Droid Turbo 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I appreciate all the hard work developers put into making ROMs. I am not trying to be rude, rushy, or impatient by asking this. It is just a crucial piece of information for this shopper (me):
Will there be any ROMs out for the Verizon Turbo 2? If so, will any come out in the next 3 months?
I'm not saying developers need to do more or work faster! I'm just wondering if anything is in the works at all... I'd love to get this phone, but I won't settle for stock. If there's no ROMs in the phone's near future, I'll take a pass. If there are ROMs in development, I'll save my upgrade and use it on the Turbo 2 the day the first one becomes available!
THANKS and NO OFFENSE )))

well, considering there hasn't been anything on unlocking the bootloader, I would think probably not. There may be root within 3 months, but I doubt that Verizon would help us unlock and someone could put together a ROM all within 3 months. Not saying it is impossible, but I wouldn't expect it

Force has better chance to get custom rom. Of course, at least one developer has to get it.

As a Quark owner (Moto Maxx, Droid Turbo, Moto Turbo), we were lucky a CM dev team member bought a Moto Maxx. We got CM, and because of the kernel he developed for the ROM, then several other ROMs became available using that kernel.
All the Quarks except the Droid Turbo have unlock-able bootloader via Motorola website. Verizon makes Motorola keep the bootloader locked on their phones, even though the U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250 is the EXACT same phone (even same FCC ID) as the XT1254 Droid Turbo, and the U.S Moto Maxx has a bootloader that will be unlocked via Motorola website! A Verizon SIM card in a U.S. Moto Maxx works on Verizon just like a non-Verizon Moto Nexus 6.
Only the Verizon Droid Turbo XT1254 was not able to participate in custom ROMs, custom kernel, TWRP until a year after release finally an exploit was found to unlock the bootloader. Now ALL the Quarks have CM, Resurrection Remix, Xperia, Mokee, etc.
So, I see the same happening here with Kinzie.
Moto X Force bootloader can easily be unlocked, phone rooted. It will get a dev or two, hopefully to work on ROMs. (I see an unofficial CM port right now.)
However, the Droid Turbo 2 will be out of luck unless exploit is found.

Hell yeahhhhh!!!!! and this is why I love Motorola!
That is amazing news! Can't wait.
And its so nice of Motorola to put all its card on the table right exactly after the release of L rather than making us wait for even longer for any official news about the updates.
Helll yeahhh man!!! Cant wait for it to come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On november!!!
See here!!! https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/software-upgrade-news/g_id/1949

How big is the difference going to be? How soon (or sooner) will the GPE moto g get the android l update compared to the stock android of the moto g?
Is the difference below 5 days, or does it usually take more then 5 days?
Based on the previous update times ofcourse.
awesome...

It stands for Google Play Edition of a phone, running pure Android.. You can buy one on Play Store on the US. And there is an Google Play Edition of Moto G and it will have Lollipop as well.. so that is GPE :good:
So happy that I made the switch from Samsung to Motorola...Samsung will release a statement about Android L updates as soon as 2023, and only updating the latest Galaxy probably. lol

Nandroid for now until L is released. It won't take too long anyways they always finish it up quickly at XDA.
So guys it finally ehre, Im proud to have such a great device like this... And, taking into account that Moto G GPE will get this update faster, what do you suggest? Switch to GPE firmware? or not and stay waitimg for nonGPE Gs to be updated?
The best idea is to wait. Stock is so clean that it wont take too much time to arrive anyway.

i wish we could also have a custom rom based on stock motorola, something like computerfreak did for turbo users. 2 days ago, i gave mokee a chance again, flashed and were using it fine without an issue (except occasional lag) , battery was depleted, i had to do some offline charging. I took off the cable out but charging animation was still there. That moment mokee rom died for me before it could make some impressions. Flashed stock again. Anyway, what we need is a custom rom based on stock as a preference for people who give importance to stability over latest android version. Heck even droid turbo users have what i ask in a locked and unrootable enviroment.

Yeah, the charging picture stays there on CM12.1 also -- if I plug in the phone when it's off, and then unplug the phone. The graphic stays there even when it's not charging.
But the Moto active display works fine on CM 12.1.
Another thing I like is I can also choose PART of a theme in CM12.1 to apply. (see top of screenshot) I specifically like the segmented mobile and Wi-Fi signal indicators (like in Kitkat), not the solid "wave" type in Lollipop. So, I applied the "status bar" part of a theme (which had those indicators), but kept the remainder Lollipop. Can't do that with stock 5.02!

Also (on CM12.1) I can choose charging sound and vibration (when plugging/unplugging) -- which under 4.4.4 and 5.02 stock needed Xposed framework + module to pull off.
Stock 5.02 was very laggy for me. CM12.1 (Lolllipop 5.1.1) is very smooth for me and gives me just about all the features I want.
The custom 5.1.1 ROMs aren't 100% perfect but stock 5.02 was only 80% perfect. I'll put up with a ghost charging animation over lag and less features!
I know this thread was discussing Mokee, but the flaw you mentioned is also there in CM12.1. I haven't used Mokee, but I assume it's as smooth as CM 12.1 and probably has custom features similar to CM12.1? So, that's why I was specifically comparing CM12.1 to laggy stock 5.02. More of a defense of 5.1.1 custom ROMs than Mokee in particular...

Its plausible. The nexus 6 is practicly the same hardware. So there could very well be ROMs that work on our device as well. Not all ROMs are created equal but I'm sure some may work

It's plausible to PORT a ROM from a Nexus 6, but not plausible to use an "as-is" Nexus 6 ROM on our device.
Yeah, they have the same CPU, GPU, RAM, resolution, same manufacturer. But a lot of work would still have to be done. You don't think our devs have been trying? Oh, and magically you can just use almost any ROM from a Nexus 6? Just flash it on your Droid Turbo? Uh, no.

For one, the kernel would not be compatible. Even the Quark CM kernel for the XT1225 had to be adjusted when the Droid Turbo XT1254 bootloader became unlocked, and it's the EXACT same hardware! The Quark Moto Maxx XT1250 (same FCC ID as the Droid Turbo) was in the same situation to run XT1225 custom ROMs. Even among Quarks, some adjustments had to be made to the kernel... You sure can't use a Moto Nexus 6 kernel on a Droid Turbo XT1254 "with no problems at all!".
2nd, you have a difference of capacitive vs software buttons at the bottom.
3rd, not just one ROM, but FOUR?
4th, there are no details. WHICH ROMs? Lollipop, Marshmallow? Screenshots, pictures proving any of this?
Come on.

No you didn't.
I'm so bored that I actually modified the flash script of a Nexus 6 rom to force it to flash, because without doing this, it won't even let you go through with it. And what happened after I rebooted the phone? I got kicked straight into bootloader mode. Because of course I did.

please don't brick your devices trying. N6 uses MSM8084 chip Maxx use APQ8084, just google this you will see that the build in chip are different, inside of that chip there is similarity but one SW will not work in the other HW.
Even if some one flash a APQ8084 ROM like a S5 or Note4 variant of APQ8084 will not work even if the person remove the lock's that there is on the flash script, I never see a ROM without a tool to prevent flash on the wrong device, some one already brick a device do this in the pass so there is a lock.
And I know for a fact a user that change his device to the ROM thinks his device was N6, he manage to flash some ROM but no luck on boot one.

If it not true then mods should delete this thread
Oh boy, I have seen pretty much every crazy thread on this site for years, but this one is near the top of the list.
You are advising users to flash firmware made for a different device? Why don't they feed their dog chocolate, drink Drano, jump in front of a school bus, or stab themselves repeatedly in the eye with a fork while they're at it?
Guys, let's PLEASE try to exercise even an iota of common sense with your expensive phones, and DO NOT flash something for a DIFFERENT device.

Quick update on the rom for ya'll who are interested.
I decided to try using the cm12.1 kernel for my next build, as it's apparently based off of 4.4.4 source. I have the zip made, but I'm having problems with TWRP backing up my system/data/boot partitions (it's making all my backups half size... Weird as ****.), and it's almost 5 AM here, so I'm gonna downgrade my twrp and try again when I get the chance to today. I'll post results here.
Also, if this build doesn't work, I'm going to switch the miui version I'm porting from the MI4 version to the Galaxy Note 4 version. It should be a tad bit easier with that, since both the quarks and the Note 4 have Snapdragon 805. Goodnight, all!

Unfortunately I've been too busy to do any more work on the rom. Been working more than usual. But I'm gonna try to get some work in tomorrow, I get out earlier than I have been. I downloaded patchrom source so I'm gonna try to port the rom with that instead of porting from the Note 4. I'll post in here as soon as something happens.
Also, some bad news in regards to my phone: I dropped it as I was getting ready to leave for work today and shattered the screen ?? luckily it was only the glass! I ordered a replacement, so hopefully I'll get that in a timely manner.

UM....how is the progress now? I expect it a lot..
Me too
Really looking forward to this. My wife gave her Mi4i away and took my Moto Maxx when I got a 6P. But she is so hooked on to MiUi she keeps harping about it all the time.
For the time being I've given her a CM13 with some MiUi themes on the theme engine. But nothing comes close to the entire feature set. Hope this materialises soon. I'm open to test it for a bit.
BTW @zefir738 I can feel your pain mate... I cracked my Nexus 6p screen a couple of days ago... Hope you get it sorted soon.
Is there a reason you are basing on KK? There is MIUI 7 based on lollipop.
Just fyi
Im looking forward to it as well
Do you guys run into a problem with visual notifications on Moto Maxx? I find know if it's my theme or Cm13, but I have zero screen notifications..
@zefir738 are you ever going to start work on this again or is it screwed

Moto maxx (Brazilian) 6.0.1 ota

FYI here is the Brazilian moto maxx 6.0.1 ota https://goo.gl/uR7Mrj
Thanks you!
Remember, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FLASH THIS ON THE DROID TURBO XT1254. It will soft brick your phone!
This is for Moto Maxx Only

Didn't work for me, but my device is encrypted. I'll try removing the encryption and trying again.
EDIT: Actually, no I won't. Best case scenario is that I get a rom that is incapable of performing any cell phone functions. Not worth it just to see what the 6.0.1 update looks like.
Restored only SYSTEM and BOOT, got into the startup pages and it reboots. Several times. Now it's hung up on the "Just a sec...", and suddenly lost cellular connectivity...
UPDATE:
Okay...got into the device (it took several taps back and forth), but I can't enable wifi at all. It reboots the phone. And 4G/cellular connectivity is flakey: it drops off frequently and only re-seating the SIM card brings it back.
HIGHLY unstable, IMO.
Wifi doesnt work on Droid Turbo with brasil 5.0.2 too, i tried 22.34.13 and 22.34.16 versions.
Here's to hoping we can port this quickly!
does that mean Moto Maxx in Brazil can skip 5.0 and upgrades to 6.01 directly?

Moto Maxx XT1225 for Brazil or any country has had 5.0.2 since April 2015, a year ago. Moto Turbo XT1225 has had 5.02 since March 2015.
You never upgraded your XT1225 to Lollipop 5.0.2 from 4.4.4 KitKat?
We also have had 5.1.1 custom ROMs since last year and now we already have Marshmallow custom ROMs for a couple of months now if you want Marshmallow...
______
Also, looking at the date of the first post this is the soak test for Brazil, not the official OTA. Motorola has still NOT released official Marshmallow stock ROM for any Quark.
Final release of Marshmallow stock ROM for the Brazil XT1225.

Soak Test #3 ended up being the the one Motorola will release as factory image. Right now you still have to install as Soak Test as they have not made the download link available apparently. This is only for the XT1225.
Also, while Chop Chop was in Soak Test #1 they removed it for Soak Test #2 and Soak Test #3. Still available in Marshmallow custom ROMs like CM13 and Resurrection Remix.
The author of this thread below even made TWRP backups of the various soak tests. If you are on the XT1254/XT1250, for informational purposes only as it's for the XT1225.

Why would you ask that just below a statement saying NO?

Thank you.

It's for informational purposes as one of the two Quarks (two different FCC IDs) released under three model names has stock Marshmallow. Whatever is in that one will show up in the others, if/whenever released. For instance, the Chop Chop a lot of people seem to love was removed in the final version. The new Lenovo/Motorola apparently things it's silly. However, still available in custom Marshmallow ROMs like CM13/Resurrection Remix.
