2 questions from a nexus 6p noob - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello friends.
I have 2 questions I hope anyone can help me with.
I have experience with nexus phones (stated with a galaxy nexus, then a nexus 4), but I'm now having a different experience with my 6p, wich is why I need to ask:
1.- On previous models, when I unlocked my bootloader, on each reboot I got a small unlocked paddle on the bottom of the screen indicating so. On the 6p I now get a more annoying, more intrusive yellow triangle that says that my device cannot be checked for corruption. Is there any way to suppress this, or is that something I'll need to deal with?
2.- When attempting a nandroid backup on previous models, I get the option of backing up partitions like system and data. But the 6p seems to have more partitions. Can anyone give me a quick overview of what they do, and most importantly, which ones are recommended to back up?
Best regards.

1. Normally you can just flash an other Bootlogo, f.e. the stock or a custom one, but I don't own that device.
2. I don't know what partitions you have available to backup, but usually backing up system, data and boot is enough.

If you mean custom ROMs, yes you can flash them usually through recovery

[Q] Restore Nexus 4 to factory

I just traded my iPhone for a nexus 4, couldn't stand IOS for more than 4 days. My previous phone was a Galaxy S3 which I've rotted, tried a few roms, restored back to factory.
When I got this, it was supposed to have been new, never used. It obviously isn't there's a CWM and AOKP folder on the phone and it's already rooted.
I noticed the phone is choppy when swiping through screens so I'm thinking it could of been something the guy had done.
How can I set it back to complete factory no root etc? I was told it was right from Google, I don't see any bloatware from any providers on it, but who knows.
I'm in Canada if that makes any difference.
Android 4.2.2
Baseband version M9615a-cefwmazm-2.0.1700.48
Kernal 3.4.0-perf-g7ce11cd
Build - JDQ39
The way I would do it with my S3 was triangle away, then Odin stock rom, I'm not familiar with this phone though.

Yeah, i should of searched first, didn't see a sticky. Looks like it's going to be a pain to set it back. Thanks for the link.
Nexus phones are not a pain. They are the easiest to lock and unlock, root and unroot. They are virtually unbrickable. A couple fastboot commands and your back to 100% stock, just like it off the box.

It's actually not that bad. Just make sure you're not rushing the process. Or there are the alternative one click unroot methods

I can't tell for sure, but I would say it should be compatible. The product itself didn't change on Oneplus Store after Oneplus 5 launch; that should be an indicator for compatibility accross versions. Is there someone here who can confirm that (upgraded from 3 or 3t)?

I posted a question for Oneplus support and they confirmed that my old dash charges (the car and the mains) both work with the OP5
I'm planning on unblocking the bootloader when I get the phone. If I wanted to relock the bootloader at a later stage, is this possible and will it go back to "locked" or "relocked" type status, or would you be able to tell it was ever unlocked?
Just curious if this will have implications to DM Verity and android pay working in the future if I ever wanted to go back to pure stock without root and have those things work.

Yes OP3/3T Dash charger or car dash charger both would work fine with OP5 and Visa Versa

Yes you can lock the bootloader later on via fastboot to locked status, no implications with DM verity if you flash the no verity zip.
You can go back to stock anytime you want
Just flash the latest stock rom and recovery and lock the bootloader to go back to stock.

Hey I just got mine OP5 few minutes ago, now I would like to unlock the Bootloader but in order to do this I need the drivers for windows 10... where can I download them? If I just turn on my device and connect it nothing happens
Hi, is there any option to change the resolution when taking pictures and videos with stock camera? I've looked in the settings but cannot find anything.

Check this post specifically but you want to read all of the instructions in this thread "OnePlus 5: Unlock Bootloader | Flash TWRP | Root | Nandroid & EFS Backup & More !!".
My OP5 is currently unlocked and waiting for TWRP to become available.

I did it and downloaded the files but somehow my windows pc still does not recognize my oneplus... whatever after I booted my Kali(Linux) system few minutes ago everything worked well
If I buy the OP 5, I hope to use it for 3 years, therefore:
How long will software & security updates be provided for OOS with regards to the OP 5 ?
Can I expect 2 years and then in the third year be advised to flash a custom rom (I'm sure there will be plenty).
USB Audio
Just got the phone today only to discover that it USB audio doesn't work out of the box. Had USB audio working fine on the OPO but I can't seem to find a way of getting it to work in my car.
I've ran through all of the options and even rooted it to try and mess with a couple of .xml files but still nothing. Anyone have any ideas?

I've heard that a device teardown revealed that they are still using the same dash charge part in the OP5 as in the OP3(T).
I guess that won't be a problem.
---------- Post added at 10:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:16 PM ----------
Hey guys, I want to root and probably even flash a custom rom on the OP5. But I had to learn the hard way that flashing a custom rom can damage the device hardware.
I've got my damaged Galaxy Note 4 (probably a broken motherboard according to some xda users) working now except some shut downs/ freezes thanks to a bit of practice that I've made in the last four months.
What could I do to not end up with a device with broken hardware cause of custom Roms? OP clearly says on their warranty page that rooting doesn't void the warranty but damaged hardware does.
Thanks in advance.

The OP5 is the fastest selling phone from OP according to a tweet from themselves. And the OP3(T) is still in the top ten of most popular xda threads.
We should be able to get a proper custom rom soon and good support for a minimum of three years is what I'd expect to happen for such a device.

I don't believe it has been released. The phone has general launch on the 27th so I presume that's when they will make this stuff available.
I have uploaded a TWRP backup of my system and boot though If you need that? Check the other questions and answers topic for 4.5.1 backup needed.

How long did you use Stock (I'm guessing at that time it was CyanogenMod, as OOS didn't exist), before moving onto the custom rom scene ?
Its good to know your OPO is still serving you well also

A month or something. I was frustrated with the bloat wares of Cyanogen from COS12. So I moved to official cm12. After a month Sultan dropped his cm12.1. From there on wards I was using Sultan's Builds. His ROM is rock solid, more stable than stock! For me community builds are way better than what OEMs giving us. I never tried OOS BTW

Well when you do eventually upgrade from the OPO to I'm guessing another OnePlus smartphone in the future, enjoy the massive spec increase and i'm sure Sultan's roms will be there also for you to enjoy.

Downgrade 6.0.1 to 5x?

Ok, go easy on me.
Since the upgrade from Lollipop to 6 my verizon Samsung S5 was slower with lag but still bearable. However after today's security patch its so slow it's almost unusable. How can I force it back to Lollipop?
I know almost nothing about rooting/JB but willing to learn something new as long I don't brick it. I just don't understand the terms and risks and process. Where do I start?
Thank you.

That was first thing I did, then booted in to save mode but neither made a difference. It was fine utill I accepted the update yesterday morning. After it installed it has been EXTREMELY slow. As i type this it lags on key presses. It was definitely the update.

It's impressive that on so many forums everywhere people decide they need to only give their own opinion of situations instead of answering original poster's questions.
While I'm also skeptical that an official update would be the cause such a massive slowdown on his phone, that's not really what he asked to be addressed, even if the answer may be obvious to some.

Unfortunately as your S5 has the Toshiba chipset (emmc of 11) there is no way to downgrade the firmware to Lollipop or KitKat. The bootloader is locked. You are out of luck unless you or someone else figures out an exploit.
You can start here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...t/rd-unlocking-galaxys-s5-bootloader-t3337909 This explains in a good bit of depth the current status of Verizon S5 bootloaders.
Other than that, just start searching and googling. It's probable that someone else has a similar issue as you. And like Rumsfield said, it's highly unlikely that an official update (which is what it sounds like you have) would be the cause of such a dramatic change in your phone's speed, so it would be worthwhile to investigate further. Have you deleted your dalvik/cache in the recovery? Have you done a hard reset? These are things you have to do before you blame the firmware, and if you have done already, it's a good idea to mention that in your original post so that you avoid unnecessary responses.
Good luck!

I have a very uneducated question to ask, don't or do The FOTA logs in the recovery menu contain all check values and patch notes old - new? Again bare with my lack of knowledge on this topic but if pushed ota and still in log can it be pulled although maybe enough info alone in log for aboot and other values as far a checks but can it be modified even with filler as what it looks like on a battery self check and re injected through command as OTA? Last question before I'm stone to death for being the forum idiot here...if something is odexed and after the patch now labeled an 8 digit number kinda like Cid or emmc or whatever the long as chipset number for instance has the another value as an I'd in the middle of it can it inturn be reversed so parameters are matched and verified and possibly editited? Thanks

Oh. Forgot to ask I didn't see a check after the
command: "/sbin/recovery" "--update_package=/cache/fota/update.zip" "--carry_out=open_fota" "--locale=en_us"
Is that a forced allowable command? The real last question and believe me I have searched threads with no luck but the mention of a dev phone and aboot.mdn
Is the recovery file system table
0/boot emmc/dev/block/platform/msm_sscc.1/by-name/boot (/dev/block/mmcblk0p15) 0
1/ ect...
2/ect..
If the 0 is a 1 would that turn any phone into dev phone or allowable options
And noticed the checks were against the chipset and matching verizon fw although att and tmo had 0 values if values were 1''s would that allow you to you the right matching chipset for att and it's fw tmo ect.. or even the 15mmc instead of the 11?

Huh? I was just asking a question? New account? Must have me mistaken sir. I was curious about this phone what options there were after the update to gain root access I have never chimed in as I was trying to read all past and present post on this topic kind of gets a little confusing one would think outdated post and procedures would be deleted or timestamped to where if the method dosent work anymore why have it up unless only as a reference. But thank you sir for no guidance or help at all.
After marshmallow update I am no longer able to view any logs in the recovery menu.

You were asking a question that was very convoluted from a "new" account, turns out you created it like 3 years ago and never posted. You quoted my response to someone else asking your question which to me made no sense, hence my weird response to you. I still don't understand why you are posting in this thread with that question unless you are trolling.

Ok so first your warranty is void (gone) also make sure you backup your phone like photos etc take screenshots of needed text messages also your phone has an 11 CID (I sadly have one to) Like you mentioned which is not unlockable so we have to go back to Lollipop to root and what do you get with root you get the ability to flash custom Touchwiz based roms anything aosp/cm/linage wont work because our bootloader is locked and there is no current exploit to unlock them there is alot of Touchwiz based roms available I added screen shots on how my S5 looks I'm running Alliance rom I have added the themes from an older version of Alliance rom and added Viper4arise Viper4arise is a really cool sound mod it gives you increddible sound there is also xposed framework now if your interested in rooting download the drivers http://developer.samsung.com/galaxy/others/android-usb-driver-for-windows extract the zip and run the exe then download odin from https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298975100 extract the zip and run odin now power off your phone and hold Volume Down + Home + Power then click Volume Up To Accept then plug your phone into your computer make sure it shows Up in Blue in the top left in Odin Should say something like "COM" now download https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298975100 that is your lollipop tar.md5 download that and extract the zip now click AP in odin and select that tar.md5 you extracted from the zip odin might freeze but its verifying the file once its verified click start this Should downgrade the phone now you might have to pull the battery if the phone wont boot afterwards (stuck on Red Verizon Screen) and boot into recovery by powering off the device (Pull the battery) and then Holding Volume UP + Home + Power untill you see "Recovery booting" in the top left now use the Volume buttons to scroll and power to select go Down to Wipe Data / Factory Reset and click power button once its highlighted now use Volume buttons to go Down to Yes and click Power to select it when it is finished click power when Reboot now is highlighted now root the phone using this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve.../testers-required-easier-root-method-t3561529 or this one https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370 if you ever need help you can Private Message me on XDA.
You can even go back to kitKat and safestrap will work But you have to root 5.0 First here is a guide I made https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...al/how-to-install-kitkat-lolipop-pb1-t3589151

understandable. no i usually have not ran into many problems before. as it has been years since i messed with these phones and decided to mess with them again alot has changed i updated one of them and was looking for a way back being it has the 11xxx toshiba chip. as far as replying to quote i have never posted before i just thought i was replying to thread or whatever but just glad i received a response lol. i was just curious i was looking in the recovery menu at the logs from the FOTA update that i accidentally accepted. noticed they were very detailed which i thought was unusual. Again very very detailed like source code or whatever the raw format is called and was curious if it could be pulled with an adb command. the second part was a shell script whatever excuse my ignorance when it comes to this but after they were ran they were checked/verified or whatever and showed values that must have been met, which lead me to ask about is there a way to use adb to unlock the boatloader as an update.zip? thanks

Bought a used N900v with TWRP installed and no 4G signal just 3G

I have 2 N900V phones with Alliance roms with safestrap on both. , wifes phone has a a bad switch so i bought a used N900V on Swappa. The phone came with TWRP installed so i flashed Alliance rom and everything works on except it is stuck on 3G. have tried most suggestions i could find and nothing works. So i thought it might be the rom, thought i remembered reading some where that Alliance rom may not work on TWRP. I installed Android 8.1]LineageOS 15.1 which works ok but still no 4G. The phone has a 4G back cover and model numbers are newer than my other 2 phones. Any ideas? Thanks for any help, my wife loves this phone Also i tried my sim card and both sim cards are new.

Thank you for your response. The new phone Baseband is N900VVRUE0F1. Both other phones are RUCNC4
I am not sure how TWRP works , is it overlaid on factory rom like my other phones which have safestrap ?

TWRP replaces stock recovery if you're not using safestrap or bootstrap and the custom ROM replaces the factory ROM. Does the new phone have an unlocked bootloader or is it using safestrap? Which custom ROM are you using.

If the it's unlocked you may see a unlocked pad lock on the screen, after boot or reboot. Also if you boot into download mode and wait a few minutes a list of text will show up, one line will be " Developer Device ". If it is unlocked.
Read this, ( all of it, its short )it will help you update TWRP.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-note-3/help/trouble-flashing-custom-rom-t3887320
Alliance ROM looks old (Android 4.4) from what I can find. Your baseband is for Android 5.0 or higher. After TWRP update you will be using HLTETMO ROMs and a lineageOS ROM like this one.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...eageos-15-1-hltetmo-unofficial-t3829154/page1
Or one of the other ROMs here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/development
May be best for you. Read the first post in the tread of any ROM you want use. If you have a problem with a ROM use search in that ROMs tread, most questions have already been answered. You can also ask me here for help. Good luck and always make a backup before making big changes.

Thank you for the links, Bootloader appears unlocked as i get the custom unlocked padlock when it boots. I have 3.2.3-0 TWRP already and i flashed the 15-1 Linage rom and it works fine . My main problem is no 4G on any rom. Do you think i need to update or change baseband? Thanks again for the help.
I have the same issue except I get No service after 1 reboot or any twrp backups.

Try turning the phone off for a minute and then back on. I've had a no signal problem a few times, reboot and/or power down got the signal back.

Im starting to believe my issue is I have a Verizon note 3 board in a sprint phone I put the Verizon back plate back on
---------- Post added at 08:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:29 PM ----------
Also when I did get service 1x-4g the network name was "roaming indicator off". For maybe 2 minutes it stayed " Verizon wireless"
I just remembered that all touch wiz Roms do the same thing to me. Also for some reason I can't flash stock based Roms. I'm getting a little worried about my note 3

I would make a full backup and try a custom ROM that's not a touch wiz ROM ported to note 3. It may fix the phone and if not restore the backup.

I almost think you have a hardware problem. The only way to be sure is to go back to shock, but it's a pain to root, unlock the bootloader and install TWRP again to get back to using custom ROMs. I let you know if I think of anything else.

I was just helping someone else going back to shock. The information is here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...esetting-to-complete-stock-currently-t3892107
You need the XDA members user name. Then use search and find any post by that member. Click on the members avatar ( circle/picture next to their user name ), click the 3 dots at top right corner, click PM and write the member a message.

I called Verizon tech support and 1st person has you go through the basics and has sent a referral for a real tech, i am waiting for a call back. I let the phone perform updates, did hard reset and wipe still 3G. Let me know if you have any ideas while i am waiting for Verizon , thanks again for your help.

My name is actually Mike. I live on the edge of a small city named Zachary. Good luck with your phone.
Thanks for your help Mike!
Well i am down to hardware issue, Verizon is telling me there is an issue with the 4G antenna and it is a different than the 3G antenna.
Does anybody know if this is true and if so where is the 4G antenna? I know there is an antenna cable between 2 contacts inside, does it handle
both signals? Thanks again for all your help and time.

Does root leave some obnoxious message?

I'd really like to root my Galaxy S8+ (AT&T) but I'm worried that it will leave some warning message every time the phone boots like it did with my Motorola G or Huawei 6x. I know from past experience that Samsung Android products may show a small fine print on boot and can be reset at anytime back to factory (the Huawei, in contrast, cannot).
Is that the case with the S8?
Anyone? Comon guys!
Hi if you have the US phone, at boot there is a custom firmware screen or something. It will go away after a few restarts if you go back to factory though.

It's not perm. This is a result from the combination file boot IMG. Its only on for like 3 or 4 sec. And if you ever flash back stock since we don't have unlockable bootloader it's not perma
Cool, thank for the reply! It doesn't seem too bad and, if your warranty is already expired, you have nothing to lose.
Is there an original rom that's debloated for this?
Hi
Would someone help a newbie please.
I am using an S7 Edge with a cracked screen. Given the price of proper replacement screen it doesn't seem worthwhile.
It seems better value to buy an S8+, but which model number? There are apparently 12 different versions! Could anybody please tell me which model of Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus would be best for the UK?
Cheers

Rooting the US does not lose the warranty. Root does not trip the Knox. Only unlocking the boot loader which we can't do
