"soft"-bricked s4 m919 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

bought a Samsung s4 m919 (Tmobile) unlocked about 3 weeks ago. thought it had a lot of bloatware so I rooted it and put CyanogenMod on it and it worked great (first time for me so i took awhile, but i got it working with no problems). took it to the nearest metro store to put a sims card in it to be told me it was not unlocked. ended up going back to stock rom to try to unlock it. frustrated i took it to another metro store and learned it was actually unlocked and was able to leave the store with activated sims card in it. So then i decided to custom rom it again since I already did it. I don't know what the hell I did differently but nothing seemed to work and I ended up with no recovery mod or system. The only things that works is the download mode.
So Ive tried flashing the stock rom using odin like 4 times and each time everything seemed to go well except the phone still can't turn on. The Samsung "logo" flashes for a second and then the phone shuts off. Any advice, is it a lost cause?

This is the section for your device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile
Download TWRP from here:
https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxys4tmobile.html
Flash it with Odin, uncheck auto-reboot before flashing with Odin.
Then flash the custom rom you want.

did both and still nothing. Odin says everything passes but the Launcher and recovery still won't turn on.

Is it possible that you are pressing the power button for too long?

For twrp, I check everything on Odin except f.reset time, flash twrp, when you see the word "reset" in the status window, remove USB cable from the phone, remove battery, wait 5 seconds, replace battery, use button combination to boot into recovery.

Phone reboots several times?

My Note has worked great from day 1. Its rooted, with the OTA upgrade.
Today for some reason it locked up with the phone app open. When I finally got it to restart, it got through the boot process and when the lockscreen came up, it rebooted again. This happened several times.
I finally got it to run and I tried a reboot, same thing happened.
Should I just Odin the firmware again? both the pit and modem? or just the pit section?
TW is a bit unstable. I'm not rooted and my Note 3 does a double boot pretty much every time. Phone works great so I don't worry about it.
Strange that it was fine until a couple hours ago. I was going to just reinstall the firmware to make sure I didnt have anything corrupt.
I just found the tar for the MJ7 firmware, waiting for it to download.
And it boots repeatedly.... not just a double boot. More like 5 or 6 times until it finally completes a restart.
Well, the tar I got has an invalid hash. Im downloading another one.
Reinstalling the MJ7 tar with ODIN wont trip knox right? I use Odin 3.07 and use the pda slot for the tar right?
OK, I reinstalled MJ7, but it didnt seem to help.
The phone boots to the lockscreen for a second, then reboots. This repeats 5 or 6 times, then finally completes the boot.
I noticed that the phone locked up in the phone app earlier today........
Anyone have any idea whats going on?
I think I found the solution!
However, there is one solution that seems to have worked for many Note 3 owners as posted by XDA member ketani73 -:
“I may have stumbled upon a workaround for the continuous boot problem. It seems that if you turn-off ‘Always allow scanning’ in the advanced Wi-fi settings then the problem will not occur. Your mileage may vary.
Follow these steps:
1. If your Galaxy Note 3 is in a continuous boot cycle or suffers from it then remove the back cover and remove the battery. Leave the back cover off.
2. Remove the SD card.
3. Insert the battery and boot. Wait for the device to fully boot.
4. Go to Menu -> System Settings -> Wi-Fi -> Menu -> Advanced
5. Uncheck ‘Always allow scanning’
6. Use back key until you’re home.
7. Turn off the device.
8. Insert the SD card.
9. Attach the back cover.
10. Turn the device on.
To confirm, I tried booting the device three times with the ‘Always allow scanning’ Wi-Fi setting checked and it ended up in a continuous boot cycle. With the ‘Always allow scanning’ Wi-Fi setting unchecked the device boots fine every time.”

S4 Doesn't turn on after downloading recent update

Hi All,
I need your help. I downloaded the latest update for the S4 this morning after i clicked yes for the phone to reboot. It didn't turn back on. Everytime I try to turn it on, it vibrates but it doesn't show the logo. I also tried entering the recovery mode or download mode but there's nothing on the screen. I also tried removing the battery for several minutes and then tried the things i said above.
Is there any other way I can boot this or reformat my phone? Please help.
Thank you very much in advance
Same here.. I had the same problem.. I did try reset it and go to recovery mode, once on recovery mode, i can choose any option because it automatically goes back to install the update. And then after installation it stuck at the boot screen again and can't turn on. I had my phone rooted before but I already flash my phone back to stock. During the period where i root my phone i never install any custom ROM and whatsoever..

What I would do is go to ebay or online stores and buy a USB JIG it works perfect on Samsung Galaxy S4
and other android phones. The price is right too, anywhere from $1.00 to $5.00 including shipping.
Here is a link worth looking at:
https://www.google.com/search?q=andr...icial&tbm=shop
JIGS are made for issues just like the ones you and @lasallegreen are experiencing.
All you need to do with the jig is first remove the battery from your phone for
20 seconds and replace it, then plug the USB jig into the usb port of the phone.
Wait a couple seconds or so and you will see the download mode screen.
Unplug the usb jig and load/open odin and after putting the stock rom in the
pda slot in odin connect usb cable from phone to computer.
Make sure the [COM:xx] lights up in Odin and click START.
Once odin successfully flashes the official stock rom the
phone will again be in perfect condition ready to use.
Your phone is NOT hard bricked, but most likely it is soft bricked meaning that it can be fixed to
come back to life after Odin flashing the official Samsung S4 stock firmware/rom which you can
find and download from http://SamMobile.com by searching by the model number of your phone.
Good luck!
Will try this method.. Thank you very much for your kind reply.. Will let you know of the outcome..

i was able to flash the stock rom using odin to see if that is the problem. I was successful in flashing but there's still nothing on my screen.
update: when i leave it for a few hours or so, there are times that the screen turns on and then it boots normally but if you reboot it's back to its frozen state. I hope someone can help me with this.

[Q] HELP corrupt bootloader Verizon S5 G900V

So i don't know exactly what has happened to get here. I have a new Verizon Galaxy S5 that I Towel Rooted and installed Safestrap. Things were going fine and I made a nandroid backup of my Stock slot. I decided to try Alliance rom in slot 1 which all went fine and i booted into Alliance. I was customizing my phone with colors and clock position etc. Some of the icons weren't there anymore so I decided to reboot to get everything loaded back in. Well when i hit reboot the screen went black and nothing came back on. Now when I turn it on I get the Galaxy S5 splash screen and blue words at the top saying "RECOVERY BOOTING...." then it shows the Android with it's chest door open and the globe spinning, then it goes to the Android laying down with a red triangle over its chest door, and then reboots. It just loops like this. Does this mean my bootloader is corrupt? Or can I Odin flash the stock firmware and PIT?
If your bootloader was corrupt, you'd either end up on the secondary bootloader page or have a nonresponsive, brick for a phone.
So corrupt bootloader was just your guess? Because I don't see any evidence for that yet. You've ended up on the Recovery mode page or at least that is what your description sounds like (a screenshot or photo would have been good). More than likely something is just messed up in your Safestrap or custom recovery configuration.
The most obvious options would be to either check and/or reinstall Safestrap /your custom recovery. Or if you prefer, revert to full stock, then proceed from there.
The last part that you wrote is unclear.. but you imply that you can't do a normal boot at this point? Can you boot to download mode then? Pull your phone battery for ten seconds.. then press and hold the volume down key, then the home key also and then the power key. You should boot to the black download screen that shows your Knox status. If this works, then you can flash a full stock firmware from there with Odin to stabilize your system.
.
Thanks fffft for your response.
As it turns out you are correct in that the bootloader is not corrupt because I can get to download mode. I tried flashing the stock firmware back on through Odin, but that didn't work, it still just looped. What finally did work is this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880 Thanks to Misterxtc. It must have needed the PIT as well.

stuck in bootloop

i have read through these forums for weeks and followed steps perfect but no version of Odin will succeed in doing a factory rom flash. i had the s4 rooted and uninstalled the touchwiz not realizing it was the launcher required to boot phone. since this happened i cant do a factory reset and odin will not work. in fact last time i tried odin it put my phone in a bootloop where as soon as i put the battery in it boots and continues to reboot. this phone has a locked bootloader and come stock with 4.4.2 i dont want to post a really long post with a bunch of info thats probably not needed so if more info is needed please ask. thanks in advance
If the phone constantly auto-reboots, then your power button is malfunctioning.
As for the other cases, use a different PC, Windows and/or USB ports. A cable switch is advisable too. And make sure you have the right firmware for the phone.
Any of those factors can make a change.
Also, unless it's a Verizon or AT&T phone, there's absolutely no possible way that thing has a locked bootloader.
I have a bootloop on the Samsung first logo with "Recovery Booting..." in blue on the top left (Samsung GT-I95026)
I have flash TWRP recovery, the phone don't want to boot on recovery, it's just bootlooping, flashed stock firmware with Kies, still bootloop, Odin, same thing
So after searching everywhere can't seem to find anything that can help, I assume it's dead then?..
bootloop stopped

i have read through these forums a lot trying to fix my s4 and im under the impression that if you can get to odin mode then the phone is "softbricked" and can be fixed.

Is there any way to unlock bootloader in ODIN? I have I9506 with 4.4.2 that was on it at first. Then i have updated it to 5.0.1 in OTA. So you say that I need to flash it in ODIN with 4.4.2 to make it work?
None of the Galaxy s4 phones have a locked bootloader except for the AT&T, Sprint, Verizon versions.
GT-I9506
S/N: RF8F20W841T
PDA: PL2 / PHONE: OJ2 / CSC: OK1 (NEE)
CAN'T BOOT IN TO THE SYSTEM (no matter what I can't make it to boot properly)
CAN'T ENTER RECOVERY (it's showing that's booting in to the recovery but instead of recovery it just restart)
CAN ENTER DOWNLOAD MODE (no problem with entering DM)
What I have done so far:
- Kies recovery with phone model number and serial number (still bootloop).
- Odin flashing STOCK rom from SamFirm download (still bootloop) (single and 4 files flash).
- Re-partitioning (flashing PIT file).
- Reflashing bootloder (still nothing).
- Tryed CWM, TWRP and other Recovery, non of them boot up.
Using those files to flash:
AP_I9506XXSDPL2_CL6069869_QB11747892_REV03_user_lo w_ship.tar
BL_I9506XXSDPL2_CL6069869_QB11747892_REV03_user_lo w_ship.tar
CP_I9506XXUDOJ2_REV00_CL1318424.tar
CSC_NEE_I9506NEEDOK1_CL6069869_QB7017077_REV03_use r_low_ship.tar
I would really appreciate help from someone more skilled then me.

Help Exposed Installation gone wrong

Hey, so I have had my phone rooted for a long time. I have a Galaxy S5 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
I decided I wanted to get Framework installed so I downloaded the right files and flashed it in TWRP.
My phone took way longer than 10 min to reboot into system so I thought I was stuck in a bootloop and decided to run my phone through TWRP again.
I tried rebooting but that didn't work. I have my phone's backup saved onto a micro SD so I did a factory reset and then tried rebooting.
I got past the rebooting logo and actually got to my lock screen where it asks for my password.
From there, I've been getting spammed with 3 different messages, one saying that IMS service is down, com.sec.vsimservice is down, and WfcService is down.
After I press ok to all 3 of the messages, my phone is still in the lock screen asking for my password but the phone doesn't recognize that im touching the screen to type. After letting the phone stay like that for a few minutes, the lock screen that asks for my password goes away and all I can see is my wallpaper background (no notification panel either) but now the phone recognizes me touching the screen ( I know that because the LED lights up for the windows button and back button )
So basically I decided to go into TWRP and flash my recovery that I had saved on the microSD.
After that didn't work, I've just been going through a series of factory resetting my phone and wiping Dalvik files and then flashing my recovery. My phone is getting unrealistically hot too.
Btw I never downloaded the Exposed Uninstaller from the forum so I tried downloading it onto my pc and then sending the file over to my phone through download mode using Odin so that I could flash the uninstaller through my TWRP but that didn't work because the PDA in Odin does not recognize the uninstaller file.
Please, I really need help and thanks to anyone who tries, it would mean a lot if someone could figure out what I can do. Thanks.
Since you've tried restoring your backup and everything seems to have failed (it sucks, I know) you should try to install a completely stock firmware which you can download from here: http://live.samsung-updates.com/index.php?device=SM-G900I Just make sure you select your exact phone model from the dropdown menu at the top right side as you didn't mentioned which of the 40 S5s you have lol. And after you flash stock firmware and successfully boot up try to restore your backup. If it's still bugged - flash stock again and start off fresh. Let me know how it turns out. I'll help with installing xposed later as well, first let's get your phone running again
