Uknown GPS problem - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody,
My device is i9505 and since near two months I'm having connection problems with my internal GPS. It can detect my position only when I use GPS Fix and the screen is turned off, and when I turn it on, inmediately my phone loses signal.
This started when I was using stock Kitkat ROM, and now I'm using CM12 but the problem still appears.
Is it software or hardware problem?

GPS becomes locked/dead

I've encountered a problem with 2 seperate TouchHD's...I use Google Mobile Maps and all works fine. Then a few days later the GPS (internal) no longer responds.
I've soft reset, tried the HTC GPS tool, etc. Nothing...GPS dead. If I hard reset it comes alive again...
I tried flashing to the .25.25 Radio ROM but the problem remains. Does anyone have a solution? Hard resetting every few days is getting tiresome.
where do you try?
mine never work indoors only outside and in my car
It's not a problem of no satellites - the problem is that the software can't communicate with the GPS chip.
Even the HTC GPS Tool can't open the GPS port...no response. I tried TomTOm and it says "No GPS device". Lots of soft resets etc, no difference.
After a hard reset, all software can see the GPS again
Very strange
luckely i don't have such problems, I hope somebody can help you with your problem
I have had similar issues with other devices, unfortunately the GPS Chipset in HD is known to be a little buggy, also the Touch HD is still quite new and more stable firmware and drivers are bound to help,
Try a port splitting app like GPS Gate etc even just to check the GPS itself.
It could also be conflicting third party apps/tweaks especially seeing it comes back to life after HR. Check power saving mode, this can disable GPS as the battery get low same as the Phone Module. I have to say my HD GPS has been perfect with Tomtom no issue at all so its not out of the question that your device is faulty.
I had some issues like that because of a somewhat defect microSD
changed it and that fixed it
I had the same problem, then did a hard reset and com port 4 works again.
Easier solution is to disable and then reenable the Comm Manager options you have turned on. I noticed if Blue Tooth is on then it can cause an issue. I no longer have the problem since I turned off bluetooth by default, which is also a good safety tip!
Hi,
I have exactly the same problem. It's not always, but after some days (2, 3 weeks) the GPS becomes dead. If I hard reset the GPS comes alive again.
Could it be a hardware problem on my device? I still suspect that is some application I install. Does anyone has a clue or a pattern on the applications installation and GPS stop working?
The last applications I installed and GPS stopped working was WM6VoIP and the Advanced_Configuration_Tool_v3.3. Still trying to figure it out.
I have ROM 1.14.410.0 (24011) PTG
Radio: 1.09.25.14
Regards
I had the same problem when I installed second today.
Hard reset and problem gone but thats not the solution I think ...
to be sure there is no hw fault, maybe you can use your hd for a while with no extra software installed, except fixes and navigation software
if the problem still occur, then go to the htc service with it.
if not, you will have to have a lot of patience to find out wich application or setting cause the problem, but, at least, you'll know is not the device
Yes, I must do that. I already hard reset three times. For every app installed I always check GPS signal. It hasn't been critical but I'm afraid it may be hw fault. Let's hope not.
When I have some time I'll try WM6VoIP and the Advanced Configuration Tool again. I'll report to you later.
Thanks
Just in case someone has the same problem...
I finally found the cause of my GPS death. After installing WM6VoIP.cab the GPS is no longer recognized by any GPS software.

HD2 GPS issue: failed to send nmea command????

I cant get my GPS to fix. I used HTCGPSTool and it came up with
failed to send nmea command
my GPS is set to COM4, all the usual settings...
Anyone know what this means?
After upgrading the ROM to 3.14 I am also getting issues with GPS.
The GPS gets hang after using for just 5-10 mins. The HD2 restarts and then doesn't work.
This happens even I am using Google Maps or other navigation software.
Sometimes HD2 doesn't found any GPS satelites also. Even I restart, no GPS gets found.
All settings are default and I haven't done any changes to the phone GPS settings.
Does anyone have solution for this problem?
Thx
Hi every one
I've got the same problem updated to 3.14 and Hd2 heats up a lot i know that from battclock software which monitors temperature and cpu% and device it self on lower part is getting very hot after that happen Hd2 restarts on and on.....
I've found that if battery is above 30 celsuis internal gps stop working and the only way to get it back is lover the temperature which is hard when you're driving
I've also got an bluetooth gps and works perfect no problems with this device maybe there is a problem with rom what do you think???
BTW I'm just downgrading Rom will post info is there any difference

I had the same problem with wifi and Bluetooth with S3, then discovered that wifi and Bluetooth chip broke following increased voltage to motherboard due to faulty charging port, hope your problem is just a software issue, try to back up and factory reset.

Irritating GPS Issue with Galaxy S5 G900f

Hi guys,
So, I have been having this problem for quite some time now and it is really annoying me. For some apparent reason, my GPS has stopped working. I don't know whether it is a hardware issue or a software issue, but I have tried to the following to diagnose it:
> Tried different firmware KitKat and Lollipop, especially ones that were originally installed on the phone
> I have tried using GPS Status & Toolbox, resetting the AGPS data and looked at the GPS.conf file which was correct
> have tried NV_Rebuild (which actually worked for a bit, then stopped again)
> I have physically accessed the GPS antenna to see if there were any defects, there were none there (I have safely and tightly re-sealed the GPS into place
> Tried WiFi, Mobile Data and GPS together
All of this has lead to me thinking that it is some form of software issue, because I have had it working before and for some reason, I suspect that it was one firmware that I had downloaded before that broke it, but now I can't get it back. The strange thing is, when I go onto GPS Status & Toolbox, it says there are 0/24 satellites, but it is not getting a lock on them
Any ideas? And yes, the phone is rooted.
Thanks!

Wifi, bluetooth, proximity failure to turn on and other problems

Hi Everyone,
Ok I also drop my phone like everyone else. recently i dropped (a small one) it but I didn't notice anything wrong, everything worked fine. I turned off my bluetooth so I can connect my speaker to another device. Ever since I cannot turn on my bluetooth nor wifi (only wifi rarely comes and goes). And I do have more problems, and the list is
*proximity sensor is not working
*gyroscope is not working (auto screen rotation)
*data dropping
*calls get scrambled noise
*and the gps went haywire
Steps I took-
Complete wipe out and hard reset to factory.
banging on the table
(apparently none of them worked)
Is this a software problem or hardware problem? If it's a hardware issue how come all the components went crazy like that.
Any solution will be appreciated.
Thanks and cheers!!
