Which messaging app are you using? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am not very happy with the standard messaging app in marshmallow. Does anybody have a recommendation for a better app?

Textra is cool.

I have used Textra for the last couple of years. I like it, it's fairly customizable. I had to move to something that allows bigger text.

I have used Textra on my Note 2, but with Google's Messenger (Stock messaging app on this phone), didn't feel like I need to use Textra anymore. It's quick and smooth and does its job.

Textra again. Nice level of customization. Slight glitch with last upgrade to support Twitter-styled emoji, seems okay now.

I use Evolve SMS now days. I may move back to Google Messenger now that they have quick reply, although I do not like the stock vibration pattern. With Evolve you can change that within the app instead of installing another 3rd party app like LightFlow..

Really like Hangouts...for now.

Yatta. Has a ton of options. So many you'll get lost. But very good.

[Q] What app are you using for Facebook?

Hi guys.
The facebook app doesn't really works nice in the N10, photos are huge in the friends feed.
I have added a shortcut to the web version of facebook and it works much better. However sending messages is painful and of course doesn't have real android notifications.
So what are you using to access Facebook in the Nexus 10? Have you guys tried friendcaster?
Thanks.

I've been using friendcaster and it's been ok. It uses the screen real estate pretty well just some odd bugs and a few features missing. It works well enough though and there's some customization which is nice. Download the free version to try out, the ads are on the bottom but since the screen is so big you don't even notice it. If you don't like it..... Un install!
Edit: ignore the title I put the verification in the wrong box hahah

Thanks, Friendcaster is doing a good job so far.
Hi,
I just use the browser whereever possible. Keyt concern is the VERY relaxed attitide many app devs, especially facebook etc, have towards your personal info (address book
etc).
Exception is google, in for a penny in for a pound with them lol.
Cheers
You could have the facebook app installed for the notifications, but use the browser to actively use facebook. Much better experience, just some minor weird glitches when viewing photos. It's what I do.

I'm using Friendcaster and think it's pretty good - better than the official Facebook app, anyhow...
You will have missing posts using third party apps due to security settings individual users can configure lately I have been using a browser for fb more and more often. Tired of the ginormous photos in landscape mode with the app. If you hold device in portrait it's better at least.

Sense 5

Hello all... I was trying to find if such topic has been presented before.
What is your expectations for Sense 5 as software and inhancements? For me, I wish they consider the following from my experience in HOX+:
- Gmail in mail application: I like to use Gmail in HTC mail app (imap) instead of Gmail official app. However, there is no star option for a message. Hope HTC is fixing this in Sense 5.
- Although I like HTC notes and HTC tasks apps, I wish they will allow to disable it if I want to use different apps. In HOX+ they prevented disabling them as they are connected to calendar and other messaging system. Also, the evernote merging in HTC note app isn't complete and it misses tags.
- I hope they can now provide an option to choose what info I can sync from Facebook (pics, contacts, ...)
- Movie Editor doesn't have a link in gallery app.
- Flickr merging (I like it of course) isn't complete and miss a lot of features. They either make it complete or allow us to disable it if I want to use different client.
- I like the way of Linkedin are being sync into contacts but it doesn't allow to open Linkedin contact link in the official app as it does in Facebook
- Stocks market by HTC & Yahoo doesn't support all market. So, another app is needed. I hope it's been fixed in Sense 5 or being able to be disabled too.
SenseTV, boomsound, Zoe that's about it. I don't care about anything else on sense 5.

I agree they removed the 3Dness of the whole UI which for me is quite weird considering that they are boasting enhanced hardware. Yet they downgrade software. Although a large number of users tend to like it
Honestly as long as the messaging app looks crisp, I'm a happy camper! haha.

Im loving what they did with the UI, it's a million time better but I still don't like the icons. I've never been a big fan of android Icons in general, I'm used to all my icons having the same shape like on iOS. I'm sure ill get used to it, since some icons look nice but there are quite a few that I think are just really bad. Definitely gonna be themeing to get rid of them.

It's all to do with reducing the lag on Sense, making everything flat will mean that everything will be a lot smoother and take less time to load so reduces lag. This is something that I really want as even on Jelly Bean Sense 4+ still lags and stutters at times which on the devices we have it shouldn't happen.
Push mail in the default mail app would be nice too.
It looks way better than the old one. Simple is better :victory:
I like the new icons... Been looking for a sense 5 cm10 for theme the last week.
I wonder if you can view twitter contacts in the 'people' app?
What I like from Sense is the ability to customize the themes (Scenes and Skins options under Personalize settings). But now they removed those options
Wonder if they'll add it back in or is there any apps that have similar functions? Especially since Sense 4+, the Skins also affects the Weather Clock look and feel.
And also, they remove tons of HTC cool widgets.

They don't look nice but I like the fact they are all the same shape. They all look like they belong with each other other. Why are you replying to a thread that's months old anyways?

I'm using an app and didn't notice the date it was originally made.
Anyway I agree with the same size, but I don't like them all being the same shape.
I think that looks cheesy

[Q] Getting a Note 3 but using a different launcher.. what do i lose?

Coming from Verizon going to the TMO Note 3 I hate TW and will use Nova Launcher my question is how much of the phone needs TW?
Does the S-Pen stop working? What other features will I completely lose if I switch to a different launcher?
Also does the Note 3 support all the new Google Play Services and features? Hardware Geo-fencing and other 4.3 features?
Just a quick question. What was the last version of Touchwiz that you used?

I honestly couldn't tell you maybe around two years ago since I've used it but I've seen it lately. I just don't really care for it, let's just assume I don't want it at all.

I have to say try it yourself before you hate on it. It has really come a long way. As someone who has first-hand experienced it from the original Behold, to the Behold II(hell on earth), to the S1, S2, S3, and Note 2, I must say it has gotten pretty good. The Note 2 was the first Android phone that I ever had that I didn't immediately put a custom rom on it(well, not the g1 because it had none for a while). I actually used stock on it for 8 months because of how good it was.

Personally, last time i tried it, 6 months+ ago it didn't rotate to landscape yet, so i hated it, super impractical to use. I didn't keep up with the updates but if it still doesn't have such a basic option then it hasn't really come a long way at all, any extra function is irrelevant and i will never use it without landscape.

Except you can turn it landscape... If you are talking about for the homescreen, then as pointless as I think turning that landscape is considering it is still a phone, there are non-root apps on the market that can force turn it landscape and the UI is still flawless.
I'm just confused on how you think portrait is super impractical to use on a phone.

ye, i'm talking about the launcher.
It's not that portrait is impractical, it's the lack of landscape that is impractical, i use the phone in landscape maybe more than 50% of the time, so whenever i want to go back to homescreen to do whatever, it's very annoying to keep having to physically rotate the phone to portrait just to read things properly and then moving it back to landscape.
But if there are apps that can turn the TW homescreen to landscape then i didn't know about them, i never even thought of searching for that as it should be an option of the launcher itself and not need an extra app... I use and prefer Go Launcher Ex cause it's much more customizable, but having the TW as a lag free alternative with landscape option would be great, i have to see if i find those landscape apps for the TW launcher.
You can force TW rotation with adaptive rotation lock and other apps on the Play Store, though it looks a little wonky

[Discussion] Preferred UI Design for Messaging Application

I am making on a secure messaging application for my dissertation, and have the back-end almost sorted, next step is to do the UI, I have a few ideas (one of which will be done after the dissertation is finished), but at the moment the master/detail design that I was trying is just not working, I have a back up plan, but if anyone else has a better idea for their preferred UI design, I could just do that instead.
This will work over SMS, and if I get time, over the internet via a P2P connection (which wouldn't require a server, so there wouldn't be downtime). This SMS app will be encrypted so will require both parties to have the app in order for the Secure SMS system to work, and won't be encrypted if both the recipient doesn't have it.

Sorry, didn't see the auto correct. My favorite feel of a sms app is the look and feel that evolve sms and hello sms bring. Something that is smooth and fluid with adjustable themes. Hangouts is also there for when you send mms. Love having the picture I send, be fully shown in the text, same when I send a video, the thumbnail will show in the text

[Discussion] Who else thinks the GS5 barely needs 3rd party apps?!

On my GS4 I used Exdialer for the phone, EvolveSMS for texting, Dolphin for the web, etc. Honestly Sammy has impressed with the revamped apps this time around! Love the new phone dialer app with the chat head bubble for multitasking when on a phone call, and love the new messaging app as well and now (sort of) has quick reply and has that nice blue color. Also love the Toolbox feature as well for multitasking, although I wish the apps from Toolbox opened in a Halo-like window, that'd be awesome. So IMO, no more 3rd party apps needed for that!!
Agreed although it didn't take me long to install HandcentSMS though.
Yep handcent is all I need

Still using Hangouts for my SMS needs. All the other native apps are nice though.
