[Q] K1 rooted 14_14 ROM

Hi
To be able to bypass the process of a flash to v13_13, open the backdoor, flash to 14_14 etc. can anyone point me to a rooted 14_14 rom?
In particular "K1_A301_14_14_120109_US"

Although still in the alpha stage, I switched from using timmydean's rom to this one specifically so I could successfully run the 14_14 rom and keep my root. Nothing against timmydean and his work, this just worked easier and faster. Also this rom add cwm which is the only rom out currently that does this for the k1, from what I've seen.
Just reemeber that this is still just an alpha, so be sure to read the post fully. Hope this helps!

Thanks for posting the link Dueces99. I compiled the CWM and ROM that Deuces99 linked to. I just wanted to add that there is nothing alpha about the ROM, just CWM. The ROM is stock and rooted and has no bugs (Other than the ones the stock ROM has).
The reason I left the Alpha status is because backup/restore don't work in CWM, and there is currently no key combination to boot into recovery. You must boot to recovery using the included app/widget

Right, there is no physical key combo. associated to booting into Recovery, the rom atleast provides the means to boot into recovery (widget/app) which atleast leaves the option. I personally, have not had any issues at all with this rom, and love the fact that all the bloatware misc. 3rd party apps and some Lenovo apps were removed, which made the rom seem that much more responsive upon first boot IMO.
Glad to hear that was of some help to you, kinda surprised there hasnt been anyother spinoff roms from this, regardless of its released stage. Just how cut and dry it is with flashing the 2nd newest update with root, then simply flashing the 14_14 update through CWM and keeping root. That was my biggest hurdle following timmydean's guide (and still is) was keeping root once taking the update from Lenovo.

Correct. After that you will be up to date and rooted.

Right, confirming with khanning88 flashing alpha 3 would be the 13_13 update. After flashing that, reboot into recovery via the Reboot Recovery app/widget included in the ROM, follow the instructions from there provided by the rootzwiki post and you'll be good to go with the latest 14_14 update. By far, the most cut-n-dry rooted ROM out there as far as I know. IMHO kinda deceiving that the ROM is listed as an Alpha (for CWM understandably) only because it's been extremely stable for me with nada one FC.
Wierd how an alpha build ROM is more stable than the OS that the K1 comes with...

From what I understand, it's the same firmware as the stock Lenovo, so maybe a little bit of a placebo effect? The CWM ROM does take out all the built-in non-Google apps, so maybe that has something to do with it.
I hope Lenovo gets its act together and shares out the proper source code so that some good samaritan out there can build a stock Android ROM to run on the K1. I've been using it a bit on the 14_14 CWM firmware, and it's still not as good as the firmware I've experienced on the ASUS Transformer TF101 or the Acer Iconia A500. The biggest issue I've found with the Lenovo firmware is that there is a lag closing out of apps and going back to the launcher, sometimes to the point that a forceclose-wait window pops up. I've not experienced that on the Honeycomb ROMs of any of those other two devices, so I wonder if it's because of Lenovo's customizations to Honeycomb, like the ability to close apps from the multitasking sidebar. In that case, maybe a more vanilla version of Honeycomb won't have that problem. Don't get me wrong; I think it's a great feature that Lenovo added to the taskswitcher. But I'd rather not have it than have the operating system lag. I trust Android's memory management enough to not really need to go manually closing apps.

Right, im sure all the bloatware taken out from Lenovo had to have some effect on overall performance. As far as stability between the two, maybe I meant to say "Wierd how an alpha build ROM feels more stable than the OS that the K1 comes with..."
But placebo effect or not, I've experienced zero issues with this rom even though I probably don't do near as much as other K1 owners with their tab. Lenovo does need to fix this, or preferably just provide full source to all...

Thank you so much, khanning, for all of your efforts. As I mentioned in this thread http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Slate-Tablets/K1-not-booting-after-update/td-p/548285 , your CWM firmware is the only effective workaround at the moment for those of us whose K1's are inexplicably locking up with "unrecoverable bootloader" errors to get onto the latest firmware.
We still aren't completely out of the woods though. In post 44 of your rootzwiki thread http://rootzwiki.com/topic/13407-al...-120109-build/page__view__findpost__p__390175 and post 47 http://rootzwiki.com/topic/13407-al...-120109-build/page__view__findpost__p__392343 , the users kennethrkennedy and aig787 both confirm that the "unrecoverable bootloader error" can still come back with updates, even through your CWM recovery. With your Alpha3 and your 120109.zip update, you managed to avoid updating whatever it is that causes the "unrecoverable bootloader error." This is my long rambling plea that, whatever you did there, you will continue to do for the latest update you are working on, so that those of us with these K1's that are prone to the "unrecoverable bootloader errors" can join the fun too. [Q] First time Tablet/Android buyer.

Hello all,
I just ordered a new Note 10.1 from Costco.com (32 gig) and from reading reviews and such I was thrown into the world of rooting. For my job, we were given iPhones so I've really only had an iPhone and am used to the iOS. Not a fan. Have always wanted to try Android but have never been thrown into it.
Are there any good guides out there to help me better understand rooting, etc.? I understand that you have to unlock it, then flash a custom ROM. What happens when the newer version of that ROM comes out? Do you lose all of your Data? Can any mod be installed on any ROM? I just don't have a good understanding of how or what to do. Granted, I don't even have the tablet yet, however, I don't want to be completely lost when I get it. I do like the idea of rooting, given that you can install powerful apps that are only offered to rooted tablets.
This is my first post here and am hoping for some helpful responses of maybe some threads that I should read to help me understand things better.
Also, where do you find custom ROMS? Is there a certain section you have to go? Or are all the custom ROMS under the ANDROID DEVELOPMENT forum?

Rooting gives you access to the base files of your device. Your device does not need to be "unlocked." That term refers to modifying the device to work with other carriers (i.e. Sprint, ATT, etc) other than the one it was built to work with. Basically, in order to root, you must first install a custom "recovery." CWM (Clockwork Mod Recovery) is probably the best one for our Notes. The recovery files can be downloaded in the development forums. Along with the program (Odin) that you use to get the recovery installed onto your Note. Once you have CWM installed you can then use a couple of different methods to root or install a custom rom that is already rooted (again look for these roms in the development areas of this forum). Make sure that you read and re-read the instructions that each developer lists on their forum until you feel comfortable and then follow the instructions to the letter! Not doing so can result in your Note really getting messed up. I have not rooted my note yet, however I have rooted and installed custom ROMs to several android phones that I have or have had and it can be really worth it to do so. Personally I am waiting for awhile with my Note for some easier and more reliable methods and ROMs to become available. Right now, I have a Samsung Infuse phone with CM10 installed and a Samsung Captivate with Slim Rom-Jellybean on it. I believe that early versions of both of these ROMs are already available for the Note 10.1. Of the two ROMs, I would probably go with CM10 - (Cyanogen Mod) as it seems to be more stable on my phones. Also, when you install a custom ROM on the Note 10.1, there is a binary counter that advances, that lets anyone who would have to work on it (like for warranty service), know that a custom ROM was installed and that would violate your warranty. There is already a modification available (again, in the development section), that resets this counter, so make sure that you research that too! Good Luck!!!

What are some of the main benefits to rooting then? I would think that if you have rooted a lot of phones you would for sure want your tablet rooted..?? Can you still perform mods to your tablet if it's NOT rooted? I saw someone with a cube on their homescreen with all their apps on it. It was 3D and pretty sweet looking. Will I be able to do stuff like that if I keep it stock.
Another thing, I read that you can't put apps on the expandable storage unless you root it...That is something I would like to do because I plan on putting games on it and such. Seems crappy you can't install some of the bigger apps on your 64 gig sd.

A lot is going to depend on which version of software you get initially on your tablet. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT let your tablet update the software when you first get it. The reason I say this is, if you have the older version of the software there is a very simple way to root your device. It's a simple install of one program and pushing a button. Very very easy.
If you get lucky and you get the older software and then root using the program I'm talking about, the next step is to spend $5 and buy Mobile Odin Pro. You can then download from here the latest software for your device and flash it using Mobile Odin with the ever root option. This will keep root on your new software. This will put you on the latest stock software and keep you rooted.
Custom ROMs can be nice. But I'd get my feet wet with the stock ROM before you start to jump into the Customs. First, stock on the Note 10.1 is pretty damn good. Second, you need to have some familiarity with what you want to be able to choose the right custom ROM to suit your needs. Finally, you'll give yourself some time to learn about your device so that you don't make a fatal mistake flashing, though most can be flashed using Mobile Odin.
Alas, if you get your Note and it turns out to have the latest ROM already, you can pretty much ignore everything I wrote.

I read in sammobile that samsung will launch Note 8.0, it is true?

I have rooted several phones but not this tablet. Why? because for me the stock rom is good enough that I personally dont see an advantage to rooting it. Some like to root and install roms for the fun of it but I need the tablet to work and dont have time to futs around with getting to know a new rom.
I also have the impression,correct me if I'm wrong, that with custom roms you loose some of the multiscreen functionality and some of the pen functionality? If true that alone would keep me on stock.

There's more reasons to root other than just flashing custom ROMs. As a matter of fact, you really don't even have to root to install a custom ROM, you just need a custom recovery installed.
Personally I'm fine with the stock ROM on this tablet even though I run custom ROMs on my phones. I did have a custom ROM installed for a few weeks that was little more than the stock ROM with a few tweaks. It didn't lose any functionality with regards to multi-screen or pen. But some of the other more customized ROMs do lose functionality.

The only thing I care about is having the ability to install Google Apps that can only be installed on rooted ROMS. I've read that there are a lot of great apps for rooted ONLY tablets. Also, some of those 3D cube thingy's that have all the app icons on it are kind of cool. I don't know if you can install those on a stock ROM..??

no, it leaves the firmware as is and it simply gives you root access, i.e. administrative control over just about all processes that the tablet is capable of. It also allows you to flash custom ROMS. that method, along with the exynos exploit method ( not possible on 4.1.2), leave you as close to stock as possible . and leaves the official recovery. Someone will undoubtedly correct me if I am wrong, but so long as you don't flash a custom ROM, I believe you can still update through OTA. I know you can through KIES. If you do go with a custom ROM, I'm pretty sure you lose all the touch wiz goodies, like multi screen as another noted above. and likely would have to use ODIN or mobile ODIN to update.

Custom apps such as multi window manager. Custom roms if you wish. Overclock cpu with tegrak on stock rooted, it does sometimes come in handy to be safely overclocked. personally this tablet is so good off the shelf you dont NEED a custom rom but that overclock is good. Ability to access and change root files such as dolphin preference in order to make it work with flash player. More reliable backups of apps and data with titanium backup. There are a plethera of reasons for rooting a tablet. But do be cautious.

Don't forget you need root for AdAway. You also need root if you want to play around (very dangerous) with the build.prop file to try to install programs that the Play Store says aren't compatible.

The 3d cube things I think your talking about are scroll effects, like cube, sphere or card stack. You dont need to be rooted for these, you can just download a launcher (nova, apex, adw) from the play store and change the effects in there.

One more question about that link. So once I follow the instructions provided in the link to root my Note 10.1, will I still have the custom ROM? And, will I be able to auto update from Samsung or whoever whenever a new version of the Android ROM comes out? I don't necessarily care about having someones custom ROM, I just want the benefits of using the GAPPS that I wouldn't be able to use if I wasn't rooted.

Flash ROM & some crazy nintendo graphics

Hi guys, I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on a few things for me.
I have an ATT SGH i-337 MK2 with SafeStrap 3.71
Today I tried to flash PAC ROM and Dirty Unicorn into ROM Slot-1, and upon reboot when the ROM's logo should appear the whole screen just looked like when a nintendo cartridge isn't working. It was just a few crazy colors with some blocks and lines here and there.
Then I tried AOKP with it's Loki'd Kernel being part of the ROM. The nintendo screen came back again, but then the AOKP logo popped up clear as day for a second. Then went back to the lines and colors.
So could this be a problem with Safestrap compatibility? If so, how can I uninstall it? (I did read the dev's thread, and it just says use .APK and IDK what that means)
Or could it be that I also need to use Loki Doki with the other two? (Didn't see anything about that in PAC or DU threads)

Same issues apon using The Samsung Galaxy S4 for Verizon (jfltevzw) Build MK2 rooted using vRoot (English) and using safestrap. if needed I can upload the safestrap apk or version. If I install any type of AOSP ROM the boot logo is either missng or baby blue with wierd static lines. AOKP is the only AOSP ROM that eventually boots (with static boot logo) but no wireless works, and this is the same wether MK2 and/or MJ7 modules are installed or not. the only rom I can successfuly install and use daily that has no bootloader based issues is Hyperdrive ROM For jfltevzw & jflteatt. Any info would be much apreciated!

If you would have read 1st, then you would know that you can NOT flash any non TW rom on MK2. This is stated over & over on XDA. Safestrap is NOT the problem it is a Godsend from Hashcode for us to be able to flash custom roms onto our locked boot loader devices. Please read before flashing, bricking & then bashing the developers. Follow the directions posted on how to restore your phone, or better yet make a trip to Best Buy & they'll do it for you. Good Luck.

It's been very well documented that AOSP does not work with safestrap. Neither does loki. There currently is no way/fix to flash AOSP.
So
1. No AOSP or GPE
2. No loki
3. No flashing custom kernels

I did read first. I've been reading this forum for quite a while actually. But there is so much information it's hard to keep it all straight. This ATT stuff is a lot different then my VZW Razr was. That phone was just flash and forget. There are so many different ROM's for this phone now that are 4.3 or KitKat I guess I just didn't realize that, that Android version came with the ROM and was originally something more mod-able stock.
Any way I wasn't bashing SS or Hashcode. I clearly said "compatibility issue" i.e. some programs just don't play well together hence the existence of compatibility mode, virtual machines, and x86 processors. So maybe you should read before bashing novice community members and making yourself look like a big asshole.
And I don't need best buy to fix anything I have a NANDroid, backup on Kies3, and Google+. Besides, I did all of this flashing I on a separate partition so the stock ROM was never altered. Thanks for absolutely nothing at all.
For anyone else that feels like they can move on with me, I would really like to try to install TWRP in place of SS. I'd appreciate any help with how to go about doing that. TIA

Well stating Safestrap may have a compatibility issue is offensive to the developer, especially since you did not read the instructions or posts from other members who did as you. If you would follow the directions it's perfect. I have 4 different roms on my phone + stock to choose from! How cool is that? I understand the overwhelming urge to flash a rom, as I too have been flashing on my Skyrocket since the factory warranty expired last year, and flashing roms is a breeze on that device. However, this S4 is more complicated since the introduction of the KNOX & the LOCKED boot loader. These phones are expensive so unless you really want a $700.00 brick, read, read some more, then read it all again. Safestrap uses TWRP to flash the roms, but TWRP alone is not compatible with MK2 nor is CWM. If you want to flash roms on your ATT MK2 S4 Safestrap is the only way to do that at this writing.

If you would follow the directions it's perfect. I have 4 different roms on my phone + stock to choose from! How cool is that? I understand the overwhelming urge to flash a rom, as I too have been flashing on my Skyrocket since the factory warranty expired last year, and flashing roms is a breeze on that device. However, this S4 is more complicated since the introduction of the KNOX & the LOCKED boot loader. These phones are expensive so unless you really want a $700.00 brick, read, read some more, then read it all again. Safestrap uses TWRP to flash the roms, but TWRP alone is not compatible with MK2 nor is CWM. If you want to flash roms on your ATT MK2 S4 Safestrap is the only way to do that at this writing.

Okay, well thank you for that. I just see so many ATT S4's in here with other ROMs and Recoverys I thought I could get something to happen. Anyway, sorry for the poor thread and response. I appreciate the plain blunt fact that SS and the ROMs that work with it are my choices for now. And don't worry about me. The worst that I'd probably get is a soft brick and I've recovered from that before Thanks again

Hey man I totally understand. It's hard to watch all these other roms pop up for the original S4 & we can't flash them. But we no longer have to suffer with only the stock rom option since Hashcode's brilliant Safestrap was released. Once you get use to it, the ability of being able to multi-boot roms really kind of makes up for the locked boot loader. Soon though, we will have 4.4 Kit Kat & then we can start this process of getting off the stock rom all over again. Right? It could be worse, we could have I-phones. We do have a ever growing number of great custom TW based roms available to us here for our device. So try them, you'll be surprised how much better your phone performs. Glad I made sense & forgive my bluntness that's just how us Rhinos roll.

So I just rooted my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with Kingo. All I have installed so far is SuperSu Pro and Titanium backup. Im on android 4.3 and I have the MJE version. (which seems to be the most uncommon because I cant find any help anywhere, so im posting this thread). All I want to know is how or if I even can get the CyanogenMod rom on my phone. This is my first android device ever and I've had it for 5 months and Im definitely never going back to Apple devices. Anyway, I just rooted, I dont care about tripping Knox because I dont have a warranty anyways. I just need someone to explain to me how to get all the things I need including CM. From what ive read I need CWM and GAPPS.

Lol sorry Im very new to android. I got it from Verizon but i enabled Developer mode if thats what youre asking haha.

It's all good lol. No, developer mode just gives you some extra features if you want to debug your device. A developer edition Note 3 is a phone that was available directly from Samsung in a small quantity. It had the bootloader unlocked, which is a must for a AOSP ROM such as Cyanogenmod. Cyanogenmod requires a custom kernal, which a retail Note 3 (that you purchase through Verizon or another retail store) can not flash due to the locked bootloader. I would suggest peeking over in the Android Development section to check out the ROMs you are able to flash. Just steer clear of the ones saying for the developer edition or DE (for short). If you're wanting a ROM that has an AOSP feel to it though, check out Eclipse.

Many people have looked into that, and no luck so far. It is still locked for devices such as ours. Kind of sucks, I know. Almost every Android phone I've owned, I have ran Cyanogenmod on it. With Verizon being difficult about locking the bootloaders, and Samsung introducing Knox, I don't think we will see a bootloader unlock anytime soon, if ever. With the new 4.4.2 leak that BeansTown106 has made available for us here:

I would suggest not taking the OTA for 4.4.2, but instead flashing the leaked 4.4.2 that is available via that thread. It all depends on what you want to do. How knowledgeable are you with rooting, Odin, and flashing in general?

Lol. Oh goody. Well you're in for a lot of reading then. If you're already rooted and have supersu installed, then at least you have that part out of the way. The way that we install custom ROMs onto our phones (since the bootloader is locked) is by using Safestrap, developed by Hashcode. You can find any and all information you will need on it here:

Safestrap gives you the ability to have multiple custom ROMs on your phone, without having to flash directly over your stock ROM (if you don't want). It is an application that you download onto your phone, you then open it up and install custom recovery. Once that is completed, you will then see a Safestrap screen everytime you turn on or restart your phone. I would suggest reading through or at least skimming the thread via the link provided above.
Once you have created a ROM slot and have it selected as the active slot, you can then proceed to install a custom ROM into that slot. Once you have everything set up, you can then switch between the custom ROM in "Slot x" to the stock ROM slot, giving you a cushion in case you completely screw up.
You're going to have to decide whether or not you want to stay on the 4.3 base, or update to the 4.4.2 base leak. The only advantages of either one are strictly your personal preference. There are a few that prefer the 4.4.2 base over the 4.3 base due to one reason or another. If you want to update the the newest 4.4.2 base leak though, follow the instructions provided via this link:

That, you don't really have to worry about honestly. I never check, though it may be good practice to. Just follow along with the video in the thread and you will be good to go. Just remember that after you install 4.4.2, you cannot flash 4.3 based ROMs. Also, there is a bug in Safestrap right now that renders the ROM slots somewhat useless, though you can attempt to use them at your own risk. If you want to flash one of the 4.4.2 based ROMs afterwards, it is suggested to back up the stock ROM, and flash the custom ROM in the stock ROM slot. All I can say is, goodluck. Lol. It is a fun process, though somewhat difficult at times. If you have anymore questions after the fact, just reply here. I'll help out as much as I can. It always puts a smile on my face to help convert an Apple fanboy/girl over to Android.

ROM Support for the SM-T337T?

I have come across some very cheap Galaxy Tab 4's on eBay that I was wanting to try out. I'm a T-Mobile customer so I'm interested in the SM-T337T (band 12 support woo hoo!)
I see that there are recoveries for the tablet so it looks like I'm not the first to wonder.
Basically, my question is: which Lollipop/Marshmallow ROMs are currently supported and stable on the SM-T337T? And have we been able to reliably root/install recovery on them?

Unfortunately there are no custom ROMs for the SM-T337T. There has been an official lollipop update, and since there are working recoveries, you should be able to use chainfire's systemless superSU root method (you most likely need the systemless root because the lollipop update is 5.1.1). The fact remains though that nobody has made a custom ROM for this tablet. Sorry

Thanks for the reply. What can I do to help the situation? What would be required on my end to port a different ROM to it? Either from a "stock" Cyanogenmod or from an existing Galaxy Tab 4 ROM?

For cyanogenmod you'd need a computer running linux, whether in a virtual machine or dual booting windows and linux (I have that setup on my Windows laptop, Ubuntu works fine), you'd need to set up your build environment, sync the necessary repos from Cyanogenmod's github, you may or may not (but probably will) have to create a device tree, but I imagine you can probably use moonbutt74's github repos to get you started on that, and once all that preliminary work is done you'll have to figure out what proprietary files are needed from the Tab itself. And of course it would be a good idea to download and inspect Samsung's source code for your device. I have that device on 5.1.1 and rooted it here(in case you haven't found this yet);

I would personally love to see marshmallow on this device! Currently settling for some Touch-Wiz debloating for now.

Does anyone have updates on this? I recently got an SM-T337T and would like to de-bloat it -- first on the chopping block would be TouchWiz. If there's a ROM that takes care of this, that would be nice, but I might be able to do it on my own?
Also, I'd really like 6.0.1, instead of 5.1.1 that's currently on it.
