[HELP NEEDED] Bricked Yoga 2 830L after messed up OTA Update - Thinkpad Tablet General

Hello, my name is Chris and I was beeing stupid.
I accidentaly started the latest OTA System Update (in Germany) on my rooted 830L.
After that, it was stuck in Bootloop.
I thought I was being smart and tried to go back to stock Kitkat so start over from there.
So i used the tool from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/thinkpad-tablet/general/yoga-tab-2-830-1050-1380-to-kitkat-t3240487 whichh seemed to work.
Afterwards i tried to flash Stock Kitkat using this firmware http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62237392&postcount=9 and according to a german how to. That seemed to go well, too. But now the tablet starts in strange mode:
It is not recognized by the PC in this mode. I still can enter fastboot mode though. In Fone flash tool it is shown as INT1503... and not as Bayflie or whatever it was before.
Ist there anything i can do to repair this? Thank you very much in advance!!
Chris

go in fastboot mode and take a picture
try flashing the lollipop stock rom , maybe you are still on the lollipop bios.
1. download and extract someplace on your pc
2. uninstall your existing Phone Flash Tool and from the drivers folder install both files (Intel Phone Flash Tool and Android Driver accepting defaults) reboot pc when finished
3. place your tab in DNX mode (from power off press and hold both volume keys then press pwr to start, in a few you screen will show "Fastboot starting..." message and hang on that. you must get that message on your tab screen, restart from power off until you have it)
4. start the installed Phone Flash Tool and load flash.xml from the extracted YT2-830L... folder then Start Flashing, it will reboot when done

I just realized that I was even more stupid than I thought.
I flashed a 830F KitKat Rom to my 830L!!!! Is there a way to revert that?
I have added a picture of the fastboot screen above, since i couldnt link it here.
Thank you!

already instructed you with some stuff (also, that one is the DNX mode, fastboot mode is the one with the Droidboot menu etc). it is likely that your bios is still a lollipop one, the rom i linked is for lollipop. if it does not work just download the kitkat stock rom for your model and flash it

Ok, I am a step forward. At least there seems to be something.
Flashing your image with the tool did not work. It lead to the same screen as the first picture above.
However, when i tried to flash the KitKat Rom with your tool it startet and it went into Droidboot.
Flashing did not finish thoug. i get this error, see UPDATE 2 Above.

go in File->Options check the Force sparsing box and input 500MB in there (if is not already) then repeat the whole flashing procedure
i asked you to flash lollipop first just in case you were still on the lollipop bios (for the future so you should know, you can flash a stock rom matching your existing install if you brick, for eg you could have flashed a stock lollipop rom from the beginning) no longer the case as now you have downgraded the bios to kitkat. after you flash kitkat rom remember to set your region code before you start to update through ota's.

Excellent, Tab is booting and seems to be working!!! Region code is changed to de. Thank you very much.
From your other post that i have seen there it seems possible to flash the LC Formware to enable Calling?
Would i proceed by updating to Lilipop, all ota updates and then flash the lolipop 830LC firmware as sugested in the other post? Will it work with region code de and is it rootable?
Thank you very much again!

Hello there,
I'm facing pretty much of the same issues.
Having the 1050l Version, tried to update the ota while having the device rooted. So after that, it just booted until the "those who do"-sign.
I followed the "get back to kitkat" thread, downgraded the bios (might have worked i think) and flashed YT2-1050L_S0225_150422_ROW to it.
Right now it is just coming to the very first "powered by Android"-screen and aborts rebooting, booting again, and so on and so on.
Might it be that theres sill the lollipop bios on it?
Thought about flashing yoga_tab_2_osc_android_to_lollipop_201505.rar (Official stock rom) on it, but dont want to make any further stepp before having your advice.
I hope for you help,
Thank you.

this is the 1050L kikat stock rom and this is the lollipop one
if you are sure that you downgraded the bios when using the restore kitkat bios tool then flash the kikat one

Thank you very much.
It just appeared to me that i flashed the "erase" image, so i might try to flash the "blank factory" one.

do not use other files than flash.xml, you can erase the imei for eg or even worse some xml files are writing a bios that will hard-brick. always use a known stock rom and never use other files than flash.xml unless instructed otherwise!

Oh boy... ye i will keep that in mind definately!
Is there btw any possibility to charge the device in the current status?

Ok, so after your hint with the bios i went to reexecute your kitkat-bios-reset, and i'm in the same bootcycle, the programs i preparing for pushing files all the time. Hardbrick confirmed?

if you used the 'restore kitkat bios' tool once there's no need to use it again (you already have the kitkat bios)
download the kitkat stock rom i linked, extract it and flash using intel phone flash tool (flash.xml file) from dnx mode (from pwr off, press and hold both vol keys then pwr on, screen will stay on a 'fastboot starting...' message, you must have this message on your tab when you click the 'start flashing' on the intel phont flash tool)

Ok, 7m of dl left, tho many thanks to you already, really appreciate your effort!!

This is a promising quote. I've been onto various chinese website and translated the pages, downloaded various TWRPs for the G9287 but flashing it doesn't complete. It doesn't fail but it doesn't pass either. Kebong. If you've managed to root a G9287 please could you go into a bit more detail? I can see on chinese forums that there are ROMs so it must be possible to root. So close yet so far.
Thank you.

I try to work on research and found that it might need to download Crom service from galaxy store to unlock bootloader, but i cant find in my Galaxy Apps store (any one have link for APK so i can try it). Hi, ive tried both arter97's kernel and the one in the chinese forum. Both work, but in the chinese kernel NFC wont turn off so i ditched it for the former kernel despite the 9287c not being formally supported.
I first installed the PhilZ touch recovery and flashed the kernel as you normally would. No issues so far and it is my daily driver.

I found CROM system app which fixed the first stumbling block. Finally I could flash a custom (Philz) recovery via odin. It passed. Brilliant. However I press all the buttons at the same time to get out of bootloader. I can't stop it booting up, but I just power down again then boot into recovery.
At this point it shows a lying down android and says 'system update...'. After a few seconds it says 'no command' then boots into the stock recovery with no apparent change. It still boots up but not changes seen. I've had a search around forums. The issue is mentioned but no solution found.
So close, yet so far!

Okay - so, when you've flashed via odin, hold down all the buttons to reboot but DON'T HOLD THEM FOR TOO LONG! Immediately jump to to home, vol up and power and hold that. It's all about the speed. When I did this it booted straight into Philz. Don't let it reboot. That's the key. After 3 weeks of trying. I'm finally rooted.
For CROM Settings - do an internet search. I found one that said it was for standard S6. It worked fine for S6 Edge+.
Here you go guys CROM Settings
What are you guys using the CROM for? @[email protected]
We use CROM because otherwise cannot flash anything by odin. I just successfully root.
Anybody able to create International Samsung Keyboard in flashable zip.? Samsung Chinese keyboard lack a lot of language and also not applying keyboard according to theme change. I try push SamsungIme and Lib file from G928C dump file and set permission with no luck. I think flashable zip should running fine.

SM-G9287 root via Odin
To root Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ SM-G9287 variant or with G9287ZHU1A0H5 baseband version via Odin, follow these instructions:
****WARNING: This will trip your device's KNOX WARRANTY.****
I am not responsible if during the rooting process you brick your device or make it completely dead.
This is just a guide how to root your device.
1. Download these files to your PC:
> CROM Service4shared.com/mobile/2CaRP69sba/CROM_Service.html> Odin3 v.3.10.74shared.com/rar/74xTnC-Rce/Odin3_v3107.html> Smart Switchsamsung.com/us/smart-switch/assets/downloads/Smart_Switch-PC_4.0.15093_11.exe> G9287 Tar File4shared.com/file/PBnmMkgsba/G9287-Root.html2. Install Smart Switch in to your PC.
3. Transfer CROM Service into your device and install it.
4. Open CROM Service and choose option that unlocks your device.
5. Unzip and run Odin3 to your PC.
6. Make sure your device has a battery life at least 60%.
7. In your device, enable OEM unlock and USB debugging.
8. Turn off your device and reboot to the Recovery Mode (push Volume Down + Home key + Power key buttons for 2-3 seconds).
9. Push Volume Up button to continue.
10. Connect your device to your PC. Odin3 must notice that you have connected your device, so on the tool you must see the “added” message displayed along with the ID:COM section which now should be blue.
11. In Odin3, click "AP" button then search for the tar file you had downloaded.
12. Select "Start" from Odin3 and wait while your device is being updated or rooted.
13. Finally, when the installation procedure is over on Odin3 you will see the “pass” message displayed and your device will automatically reboot.
14. Disconnect your device from your PC.
14. CONGRATULATIONS! Your device is now rooted.

Hard Brick? Soft Brick? Please, Help!

Hi, my 910G started to restart. Today, didn't boot anymore. Not even in Recovery. But now is on Download mode and says "mmc_read-fail". I've read that it could be a hard problem.. but maybe it could be a partition problem. IN that case, I need the pit file, but I can't find it. I tried to flash the stock rom using oding, but i get olways an error :S.
Please, help me!
If you can't even get to odin without mmc read, maybe it is your memory. Sorry I couldn't help, can't beat hardware failures. .Best of luck
I can give you two suggestions
1)Start from scratch.
Remove any samsung related prog from control panel of your computer
Then flash stock firmware with odin
2)Try to claim warranty and tell them you get custom when you are trying to fix it from Internet

But if I do that processs, and enter to recovery, tap "reset normal mode", the phone works great... What could it be?

Well, this is the new "panorama":
The phone started again, when I installed the Singapure 5.1.1 N910G Version. Then, I've installed Nameless Rom 5.1.1 Stock. In the first reboot, it reboot again, and show "MCC READING ERROR" with "Download Mode". Turned it off and on, and it works again.
The thing is that the phone wasn't working 100%. Maybe in one reboot, it works flawless for 10 minuts. Then, get a call and the phone get stuck. Need to take battery out, to get it work.
So I've installed Australian Version 5.1.1. The same. Maybe its thing of me, but I think that when I try the phone with the Sim inside, its when it worse work. It's more common to have lag in an app.
I'm getting mad, really. I want to sell it, and I can't sell it like this... because I don't know if it will work or fail.
Tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823918. Used the 4 files. No problem in any block. Not even in Ifinite loop mode, when it searchs for an error till it gets one...

Ok, I'm tracking now. Been helping 2-3 people and got mixed up.
I did find this.... So if anyone with a working N910G, they can do this.
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/out.pit bs=8 count=580 skip=2176
Need to be rooted and busybox installed.
I've found it multiple places.
Here's with a S4. Same commands, same parition

Correct.
I guess it's possible yours is broken. Not sure how. Except possibly flashing the wrong firmware from a different model or make phone.
That's one thing I have give Samsung a little credit on. They are trying to at least make the phone where they can't get f*cked up.
It does cost them money also to replace the phones that get wrecked by people flashing stuff randomly and turning them back in under warranty.
Not directing this at you. Hell I've turned a phone in I messed with.
I think it was messed up when I got it but I'll never know since I starting hacking into it as soon as I got it.

So I have to flash the pit file alone, using re partition enabled in Odin? Or the pit file and the firmware?

LG Stylo 2 Boost Varient Permanent Root Accomplished!

PLEASE HIT THANKS IF THIS WORKS FOR YOU
ok guys i got permanent root there is one pre qualification you will need to accomplish this you must be on software version LS775ZV3 currently this is the only version that can get temp root from kingroot which is what you will need to start this process. ok so if your one of the lucky ones that have that software version and didnt update go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/one-click-root-tool-android-2-x-5-0-t3107461 and download the latest version of kingroot which i believe is 4.9.6 install it and run it and get temp root, after you verify that your phone is rooted what we need to do now is replace kingroot with super su without rebooting the phone a softboot is ok the temp root will stick with a softboot your going to have to go to the link and follow the guide there to replace kingroot with super su using terminal emulator http://forum.xda-developers.com/a310/general/how-to-remove-replace-kingroot-kinguser-t3308989 . so after you follow that guide kingroot will be gone and super su is now on your phone. super su will ask you to update the su binary make sure to use the normal option, after you press that button it will start to update but will fail so what your going to have to do next is install (Root) FlashFire to install the su binary update manually which can be found here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.flash&hl=en and the su binary zip file can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053 . i recommend the stable version, download that zip and put it at the root of your internal memory after you do that and install FlashFire on your phone its time to get down to business open FlashFire when it asks for root permission make sure to grant it after that hit the + symbol then press the button that says "flash zip or ota" when it opens it will show the content of your internal memory locate the su binary zip file that you put there earlier and press it to load it up to flash, make sure the only thing checked is the "mount/system read/ write" and hit the check mark to ok it then hit the wipe button and make sure the only two things checked are the "Dalvik cache" and the "Cache partition" hit the check mark to ok it. after that scroll down to the very bottom and hit the flash button after that it will start to flash the updated su binary and then it will reboot and i know it seems scary but the red notification light will stay on until it reboots all the way and there will be red text that pops up and says boot verification fail it scared the hell out of me i thought i bricked my phone again anyway give it a minute or two to boot and once its done and boots into android you have a fully rooted LG Stylo 2 like i said i have the boost variant not sure about the other versions but these steps are pretty universal on any android device also just so i don't get blamed do this at your own risk im not responsible for you messing your phone up but it worked for me perfectly i have restarted my phone normally a hundred times and root is there every time anyways enjoy im not much of a developer so please don't ask me about custom recoveries or custom roms i don't do that but now that we have root maybe a developer might come in and help or something.

when you remove the battery and restart the phone is it able to boot back into android? not sure why it would hang just follow the steps to a T it should work, this is the exact same way they rooted the kindle fire 7 5th gen with blocked bootloaders as well that is why I said its pretty universal and not device specific but if your phone is fine just reboot and retry.

I've rebooted and retried multiple times over and always have the same issue. My phone has always had the red writing when you first power it up, ever since I rooted it with KingRoot anyways. Is there anyway to get it back to 100% stock? Would that help? And when I say 100% stock I mean above and beyond wiping it

You must be getting some error message on the black screen. It usually fails if the framework is incorrect.

When power on the screen goes to recovery mode instead of booting up.
And you're not able to escape recovery mode in any way? As in, the reboot system option or the key combination. Did you try factory reset?

I wouldn't know for sure until I have the device in my hand but since you got this problem while applying 7.1.2, one thing you could do is go back to 7.1.1. If you can get the 7.1.1 OTA update file or stock for the TA-1021, you could put it on your SD card and then apply through the recovery mode that you're stuck in.
Here's a link that has the 7.1.1 update file but I'm not sure if it's for the TA-1021. I suggest you find out first.
http://www.stechguide.com/install-android-7-1-1-nougat-on-nokia-6/
Again, confirm everything before you attempt this. Also, try applying the 7.1.2 again properly. Maybe something didn't go as planned the first time.
Here's the link for 7.1.2 for TA-1021 :

Not Worked, and the thing is, when I tried to install any package for Nokia 6 TA-1021 it shows an error that installation aborted, see picture..
Status 7.
It shows a Status 7 error. The only instance in which the Status 7 error can be seen on a non-rooted Android device is when a person, instead of waiting for a new system update to reach them Over the Air, decides to sideload and flash a ZIP file containing the official software update onto their device. A non-rooted Android device only displays a Status 7 error when a system update is being flashed onto it and something is found to be out of place or, to be more precise, modified. It's not a very serious issue though.
The Status 7 error only affects non-rooted devices that are not in complete stock condition, so the only way to fix the Status 7 error on a non-rooted Android device is to restore every bit of the device back to its stock condition. So I guess you'll have to find the stock ROM. Have you tried contacting the customer service center?
U can't go back .u flashed wrong file. The same problem happened to me in last month I tried to update software through sd card after several time that was aborted , now u need to install full stock rom that was available in XDA developer forums about 1.52 gb . Download that rom flash through OST.LA software and flashing method step by step listed there . But one problem is in that rom u will stuck with June security patch, further updates not available with that rom , rom is bug free full stock rom of nokia 6 for all except Chinese version . I'm using the same.

Sprint has released Pie for S8 and S8+, flashing worked perfectly on my AT&T S8+

Hey guys I just got done flashing the G955USQU5DSC1 Android Pie Firmware that Sprint released for the S8/S8+ (and Note 8). The steps are below if you want to do it It's your risk and since we just had the first US carrier push the Pie update the others should be close behind but if you want it now this works perfectly. At least it did for me and for a few others I saw on reddit. I was able to do so without wiping my phone either, no data loss at all. Everything is working perfect, AT&T bootscreen, Wi-Fi calling, VOLTE etc.
Step 1: First off download and install the Samsung USB Drivers for Mobile Phones https://developer.samsung.com/galaxy/others/android-usb-driver-for-windows if you don't have them installed already (reboot after installing them) Use "SamFirm" to download the Sprint Firmware (no throttled download speed like most sites etc) I used v0.3.6 https://bit.ly/2Gso6QQ
Step 2: Launch "SamFirm" (I set the Auto/Manual check box to Auto) and input your model number (Settings>About Phone) or SM-G950U for S8 and SM-G955U for S8+
Step 3: In the "Region" field of "SamFirm" application put in "SPR" for Sprint, and click "Check Update". When you're ready to download it should look like this (G-950U for S8 instead of S8+) When you click download it will ask where to save the Firmware, I just saved to my Downloads folder.

Step 4: Once the Firmware download and decryption process is complete you can close "SamFirm". Go to where you told the app to download the firmware, right click it and click extract. Now it's time to use ODIN. At this point if you just want to be extra safe I would use Samsung SmartSwitch app on your phone to create a backup of your phone either to your MicroSD card (easiest) or to your PC. This will backup App /w app data, home screen layout, settings, documents, music (not needed if on your SD card) etc. But I didn't loose any data or have a reset when I did this.
Step 5: Download and open ODIN, I used ODIN 3 v3.13.1. Do the usual of clicking BL/AP/CP etc. then point ODIN to that file of the Firmware that is inside the folder you extracted (ODIN will take a second to scan each file as you add it, just wait for it to finish). For CSC make sure you select CSC do NOT select HOME CSC. If you select HOME CSC it will wipe your data/reset your phone. Also do not select the USERDATA file. Leave USERDATA blank in ODIN (at least for AT&T and Verizon users who this guide is for).
Step 6: Boot your device into download mode. Power off your S8/S8+, then press power and hold power, volume down, and bixby button at the same time. You should very quickly get a blue screen, release the buttons. The screen will say press volume up to continue, do so. Now plug your S8/S8+ into your PC. ODIN should show a blue square under ID:COM like in the previous photo. If ODIN looks the same as my screen shot while you're in Download mode you're ready to go. Now just hit start and wait for the process to complete fully. When it dose finish your phone will reboot and ODIN will show a green square with the word "PASS".
It may take a bit longer than normal for your phone to boot this first time. Also the first time my S8+ rebooted I wound up in the recovery menu, but simply hit the power button since the first selected item is "reboot phone" and the power button is the select button. If you get some white text at the bottom saying its doing something just wait for it to finish and when you get the reboot option hit the power button. That's it. After that my S8+ booted up just fine (this boot may be a bit longer as well but only this time) and I was at the lock screen. All my apps still installed, settings the same etc etc. Just like getting the update OTA.
Ive got an unlocked ATT S8+ and appear to be running into an issue when I fill in the info and select auto.

You have to choose SPR for CSC code because ATT does not have a pie rom for SM-955u
I flashed it yesterday without any issues over the drl7 beta. Process took 15-20 mins but work like a champ after booting up!
Please read this instructions
Just finished flashing on galaxy s8 SM-G950u unlocked Verizon.it worked like a magic for me .BUT faced some issues like :
* after downloading firmware using samfrim error was crc not match please redownload file.
-Solution: download firmware without crc check option.
*after download and decryption. Trying to extract the downloaded file error msg ( file is corrupted)
-Solution :download 7zip software to your pc and right click on downloaded firmware file then choose check crc when finish right click again and choose 7zip > extract now you will see more then 4 files.
When finishing even if there is error just ignore and follow (Sean8102) guide
After flashing and your device restart you will see error message ..don't panic just do wipe cash and reboot u
Your device..now you can enjoy with android pie and give middle finger to verizon late updates

Theres no benefit, it's the 9.0 pie rom update. If u tried the beta versions, it's the same except some
bug fixes. The branded ROMs are all the same, they Just add their own bloatware and other BS but other than that snapdragon rom is the same but are different than exynos rom versions.
Perfect guide.
Thank you very much! I use your guide and was able to flash without wiping any of my data!
omg THANK YOU!
So im doing something wrong, or the files just wont work for my version.
I've placed my device into Downloading Mode with two methods, using adb and the volume down, Bixby, and power button. But for some reason it appears to fail while connecting. Thoughts?
Here it is from these guys using google drive.

Try to re-install Samsung drivers and see if your data cable is broken or try a different one

Some reason Odin crashes while initializing to begin the process. :/

I havent, but I am now. Also ran as Admin if it helps. Will edit when I know more.
EDIT: Appears I just am not getting lucky here. Unsure as to why this is happening, is there anything on my device I should enable/disable for this process?

Question about future Ota updates
I followed your guide successfully, will I continue to receive Ota updates as usual as they are released in the future?
Working good on Verizon ?

Yes, but if you're like me you'll end up installing it before the OTA goes out ever again
