Is there any way to alter some file of the system, so it is possible to use Googles DNS servers, rather than the ones provided from the carrier via the APN? It is SO annoying to not be able to get access to DNS blocked sites while I'm not home and connected to my WiFi - my router is setup to use Google DNS.
I know there are apps for it when rooted but I'm looking for a more clean method.

I know this may sound weird to some of you but I have been looking for a way to block pornography in windows mobile. The easiest way I could think to do this was to simply add a content filtering proxy to the data connection but I am having problems finding a proxy that will let me do that (without installation).
So I guess my questions are:
1. does anyone know of a content filtering proxy that will allow me to sign up and pay for an account to block pornography or do it for free?
OR
2. Does anyone have a program to install that will allow me to do this some other way?
Thanks for your help
How about Cilice?
You will find some information here....

not sure if its compatible with the cell phone, but have you tried to set your dns to opendns.com. I use them as my DNS provider at home (they are free) and you can control what is available...
What are you doing that makes you need a content filter?

I like the cilice idea - very humorous. But seriously, as blancmik points out I would recommend using opendns. It's free to setup. Usage depends on how you browse the Internet. If you're browsing via WiFi from home, then you can configure your router to use OpenDNS, and manage your settings from there. Most likely your IP won't change too frequently so you may get away without bothering over your dynamic IP address. But I'd also recommend using the OpenDNS Updater software on your home PC, along with the free service DNS-O-Matic. That way as your WAN IP changes from your service provider, you can still browse using your OpenDNS filtering.
But if you're using your device on your carriers data plan, then your IP could change more frequently. It's a little trickier because I'm not sure if a dynamic DNS updater application exists for Windows Mobile. So when your IP changes you'd have to either manually update your free OpenDNS account. Or update your DNS-O-Matic account. Doable, but it would be annoying.
If you are on T-mobile you can activate the WebGuard and that will filter all adult themed content. It is done server side before the data reaches your phone so that could be an option for you.

the company i am current working also use VPN by setting the IP adress
the concrete operation is a little complicated, you'd better google for help
Good luck
The easiest solution would be to use 3G/4G and thus avoid any filter/proxy that your company WiFi has.
Assuming you don't want to do that, you should try to figure out what kind of VPN you're using. There are 4 main types:
1) PPTP - This one is old but supported in almost every OS natively (including Android). It's easy to setup a server for these using any Pro version of Windows. It's also easy to block.
2) L2TP - This one is more secure but also less supported. This one is also fairly easy to block. I think only Server editions of Windows can create this type of VPN.
3) IPSec - This is your Cisco-type VPNs. These tend to be more difficult to setup on the server side. Depending on how the network is configured this may be blocked too (but less likely).
4) OpenVPN - This is probably your best bet to avoid workplace blocking. You can configure it to use any protocol or port that you want, however it is very difficult to configure for a first time user. There are tutorials available online to help. You'll need an app (and maybe root) to use an OpenVPN-based VPN.
I'm having the problem that some of the sites I use are blocked by ISPs in Denmark - torrent sites. Of course I use Googles DNS servers on my home WiFi - problem solved. I would also like to be able to use Googles DNS servers when on mobile data.
What do you guys do? I would much rather change some system file that overwrites the APN settings, than install a VPN or DNS changer app.
I'm not rooted, running stock 6.0.1.

Torrents, really? I thought we were past those.
What could possibly be something legal and free stuff for our 6P that needs to be downloaded as a torrent?
PS. We don't discuss about warez here.

Some files are easier to download via torrent instead of mediafire. I downloaded a bunch of wallpapers that a Reddit user shared via a torrent because it was faster than using the hosting site listed as an alternative.
(www...........'s) server DNS address could not be found.
I get this error trying to access some websites e.g. gumtree.com.au or if i google something and the first few links are paid ads then i get the same error if i click on them.
I have tried DNS changer and set to 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8 respectively and issue persists.
This will happen with any browser i have tried. And the gumtree app doesn't work either.
Any idea whats goin on?
Finally someone else! I can't either, only on my s8 and only gumtree. Any help?
Are you guys still having this issue? It's driving me crazy that I can't access that Gumtree at all even via Chrome
Anyone got a solution yet? As of today i am finding this issue plus clicking on anything from Google shopping ads

Yeah, and no fix in sight... Really weird
I'm using aldi mobile in Australia. You guys?
From what I read from when you encounter this on your computer, it's a problem with your dns settings. For mobile, if you have setup the apn and port details correctly then it's a problem with the provider (in my case aldi) in that their internet services server does not recognise gumtree's addresses as being valid.
Which is really dumb, cos why would Aldi block or all of a sudden remove Gumtree as a valid source.
I figured out what was blocking gumtree and google ads.
I installed an ad blocker called Adhell.
Disabled it, opened gumtree to allow it to setup, then reactivated Adhell.
Gumtree remain active and working now with Adhell on.
Here is how to fix Server DNS Address Could Not Be Found on Chrome
1 – Change DNS Server Settings
2 – Clear Chrome Host Cache
3 – Flush The DNS Settings Via Command Prompt
4 – Empty Etc Folder On Your PC
5 – Restart The DNS Client Service

Anybody did this? Does it work?
Hi
I'm in the UK and i recently set up a US VPN gateway so that i can stream from various US streaming services. I did this so that I'm only using 1 connection to my VPN service. In order to connect i need to set my Shield to use a static IP address and a different gateway from the default one. This works well but i also need to be able to switch back to my normal gateway for services like iplayer to work. Unfortunately static Ip details aren't kept if I switch between DHCP and static. As my Mrs and kids will also be using this i need to find a way to simplify the process so I was wondering if there's an app that can toggle between DHCP and pre-configured Static IP settings?
Thanks
Calvin
I was going to suggest setting a static IP via your router but if you need custom DNS and gateway too that won't work. Hopefully someone has an app that can help.
