Yep, everyone that has a Z5 and wants to root will like it.
But, I don't see any devs working on a LB root at the moment.
Please don't post like this. When I read the title I thought that there was a solution to root. Everyone want a solution
What is the problem unlocking your bootloader? You can restore your DRM now.

No, you can't. To back up your keys you need root. To get root you need to unlock. If you unlock you loose your keys. You can simulate the functionality but can't restore the keys.

My Z5 has !!! faulty electrical parts !!!, but Support said: "Nope, no warrenty for you at all. Pay 250€ for repair or order it back for 15€." What I said: "Can you sell my Z5 for around 500€ (new 700€)? Then I can buy a new one and have saved 50€!"

Told Verbraucherschutz or your lawyer about this ?
This is ridiculous ! Faulty electrical parts (I assume they were already like that) have to be fixed (what is broken, btw ?),
does Sony have a something like a Community or PR Manager on Facebook, Twitter ? - Write them publicly that they'll get some pressure.
My phone works so far (2 weeks old, hardly used) *knock on wood* - but if they reacted in that way: I'd got to my lawyer and demand repair + NEVER EVER buy anything from them again and also tell everyone about this "maltreatment".
What kind of ****ty politics is this: they're offering you a defective product (non fully functioning) at a premium plus price and then sanction you if you fix it yourself (referring to bootloader unlock + custom parts),
it's not like you only rented the device - you OWN it !
Well if i have the functionality why would i need the keys? Nevermind. Im happy with functionality restored.

really bad news to hear... We still need an exploit to gain temporary root priviledges and so backup the TA partition in a safe place in case like these.
However do not give up and get information about warranty laws in your Country

Don't go to Sony, go to your dealer to claim warranty. You have a contract with the dealer who sold you the phone, not with Sony. If the phones age is less than 6 month, the dealer has to prove that the parts weren't defect when you bought it.

no, that's wrong (at least in germany). unless unlocking bootloader (and rooting) is the cause for the defect.
e.g. unlocking bootloader doesn't cause a broken powerbutton

Hello
I have posted something similar in the thread where you told us not to unlock the bootloader if your phone is highier than 11W29. But unfortunately I didnt read that thread and I have now a dead phone and my phone´s date is 11W46 (I know I messed up big time here). So my question is: Can I do anything now? Should I look for help with ppl that have the JTAG/RIFF box to resurrect my dead phone or just go to the shop and ask for a new one?
The problem is that I am not sure if my warranty is lost this way and if they will give me a refund...
Please give me back the hope of brining my phone to life again :´´(
If you have tried to unlock the bootloader you have rooted your phone. If you have rooted it you have broken the warranty so im sorry about that.

Go to shop and say that phone was dead at normal use! If in repair center will find that you brick phone by yourself you will pay some money. I was bricked my daughters phone (11W35) and take it to nearest mobile phone workshop (not SE warranty), phone was be repaired in 1 day and that was cost 15 Euros.

there isnt a way to find out if the phone is rooted as long as it doesnt open and there isnt a way to open it(they will change the motherboard or replace your phone), so it doesnt matter
@stamatis16
Great news for me . Thank you for sharing that. I could go to the shop then and just tell em the phone died. Thank you guys a lot for the optimism I ll do my best to bring it to life again
Just take it to the shop and say that you put your phone to charge and since than it cant start

Hello again...
after 3 -4 weeks I finally got a call from the shop and they told me that the phone is ready to be taken. So I did. Never had to pay for anything .. they just told me the mother board was switched. Such great news.
now
I am thinking of putting the GingerDX ROM on my phone .. Why shouldnt I do it ? Are there any problems I should know about it? Anything to tell me?
P.S.
Sorry for double post

I got my S4 today, rushed home to open the package really excited to come straight onto xda and root it, as I need to run arliberator app in my car and also titanium backup to get all my data over from my old galaxy.
Now I see that i cannot root it because of Knox and that even though it is unlocked after kkitkat I wont be able to use my foreign sims when i am abroad which i always do as roaming costs are extortionate!
well my S4 has sat here all day switched off and I don't even want to switch it on, its a useless brick as far as i'm concerned i am hugely disapointed and really wish I had bought the Z1 or even the old xperia z instead of this SamDung
maybe you are one of the lucky ones with an old boot loader .if your firmware is older than mgg like ending with mga you can root without voiding your warranty .

Are you not still within a cooling off period if youre not happy and want to return it for a refund?
I wouldn't rush out to get the Z1 either as there appear to be issues unlocking the boot loader as in the below link. Ive also had HTC devices were it was nearly impossible to gain s-off (having to perform a wire trick to apply an engineering hboot). If you check the HTC One forums there are people on a recent hboot who are unable to s-off as its been locked down by HTC, which can cause headaches when trying to flash certain ROMs.
The reality is Samsung just isn't making devices specifically catering for people who like to modify/flash custom stuff. If you want full control of your device with an easily unlockable boot loader, then get a Nexus.

2) Even if you have knox, you can still root. You just lose your warranty. Are you ok with that?

I'm on MH8 4.2.2 so i'm affected before i even had a chance to set up my phone, I didnt buy it on a contract and i cant return it now.
Of course I am not willing to void the 2 year warranty on an expensive phone this new, no way!
The xperia boot loaders don't need to be unlocked to flash modded/custom roms if they come off a sony base rom so it's all good, better camera waterproof and a dev friendly company
so now then...Anyone want to buy this S4 from me?

You do realise that even if you didn't have the locked down Knox firmware, you'd still be voiding the warranty, regardless of if you used an app like Triangle Away, right? That's the risk everyone takes when rooting.
You've basically just come on here and opened a new thread to whine about something the vast majority of us already know about.

warranty is a fiction it dont protect against software bug bricks as there is no chance that you permanently brick your phome that way. it also dont protect for physical damages and water effects. if something is wrong service tell that is your fault anyway. so dont bother about warranty and root it

Umm rooting does not void your warranty. At least not here in Finland. The company is responsible for proving that the cause for say a hardware defect was indeed caused by the software and not an error on their part if the phone for some reason breaks down. They usually don't bother and just repair it under warranty.

there has been issues before on previous samsungs with usb connectors stopping charging, phone randomly switching off etc and who knows what might wear out on the S4 as its still pretty new, I'd rather not take the risk, also if you come to sell your phone and the buyer sees your warranty is void it will make your phone harder to re sell on

I've already accepted the risk. If something happens, it'd be very hypocritical of me to whine about something I knew could and did happen.
I know how easy it is to flash back to stock and hide evidence of it being rooted and customised. I've been doing this since the G1.
You won't find me opening a thread when I don't like something. Especially when it could have been prevented by doing a little research before buying the phone.

Here in the UK, it's kind of the same. Yet companies here will still try and point the finger of blame at custom software when it's clearly a hardware fault.

If you hand it into the police (At least in the UK) after a period of time, 4 weeks or something, it legally becomes yours if no-one claims it and you can go and collect it
Hand it In its being tracked
Not only that, but a local mobile network operator have no right to say you can keep a phone that does not belong to you, just because it was lost
Only the police can do that, and only after they try to find the rightful owner / give them a chance to report it lost and have it returned

Wipe data & system and install a new rom via Odin and you're done.
Wipe data removes 99% of tracking apps, wiping system removes the rest.
Use a custom recovery and delete everything than use a custom rom/kernel and flash modem/bootloader files too via odin

not quite
It is traceable via IMEI.
But someone who lost this phone (apparently it looks like this) and phone was bought on contract, there is huge possibility that someone will block IMEI on network provider. After that 2 ways left. Sell it to foreign country or use it w/o mobile network.

And that has something to do with him because ... ? phones don't comit crimes, people do. Let's say police was tracking a phone for some reason, once the criminal sells the phone it will be tracked for an X amount of time until police knows for certain the buyer doesn't have anything to do with the seller. Anyway more than 50% of phones out there have been used in... unapropiate way from prank calling to showing the latest vid of a gf to your friends (and you know what I mean by prank and vid).
Let us not make any more of what it is: a found phone, repaired, end of story. Nobody will come after it and if it does you can show the owner the receipt for spare parts. If he is as honest as wanting his/her phone back at least they can pay for repairs.
Just use it if you really wanted to... The authorities aren't gonna bother raiding your home and arresting you and stuff just for the sake of a lost phone. So just use it normally. If they blocked it then fine just use it as a gaming device or multimedia device. If someone tracked it then give it back to them and charge them the cost for fixing it. If it really came into accusing you of stealing(which has 0.1% chance of happening) then dare them a lie detector test.

I wouldn't end that statement with "sorry". If he just bought it like that, he's not going to be the least bit disappointed with having to reset it in order to make it work. Just being able to make it work is all he's after. I'm sure he's ecstatic to know that he can

Well, I figured he was looking for the easy way but that's not what he's going to get short of knowing the person's email and password so the only way is to Odin the stock roms so your right sorry shouldn't have ended my statement however it did because it's not what he wanted to hear I'm sure.

I may be a bit biased because I've rootedand customized phones since the D1, when it was MUCH harder than it it currently. But I have always found ODIN very easy to use. In reality, I'm sure the OP could look up a video on youtube on how to use ODIN and get his phone working in like 20 min (minus download/setup times for ODIN, ROM, etc.). And I'm sure he saved a bundle buying it like that. He just needs to pray it's not IMEI locked on top of it, or all that effort will have been wasted

We'd prefer that you not. Phones with locked IMEI's are that way for a reason, and we don't want the activities on this forum getting us into legal trouble. Thanks for your understanding.

Well why do you think I didn't post it. Now if someone bought a phone and it ended up being stolen....Idk what I would do. I guess get the seller to give the imei in advanced to check it's not stolen or blacklisted.

Which one would you prefer in terms of stability and battery saving? I cant figure it out which one is superior.
Best thing to do is use both for a couple of weeks and see what you feel is the best for your needs
Yep exactly. That's we all do.
Yes, I would just take them both for a spin...
True, but I actually have hoped somebody already did this
These type of threads aren't usually allowed to remain open on XDA as they cause people to put down another developers hard work..
They being said there really isn't a right answer here.
I currently use EX and I get around 9-10 hours on average.. But what's good for me may not be for you.
So as other people have said, just try them and see.
Hi guys.
Once I install any kernel, will I lose the warranty and future updates?

No ..
Warranty on this device is a grey area, you are allowed to unlock the bootloader which is usually where your warranty expires, that's not the case with OnePlus.

TKS Man!
MY biggest concern is about the updates, but I think it's worthy!
