Your favorite Rom is? And why? - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 General

i am looking for a good stable daily driver and came across one that i think is gonna be a keeper for a while. but i am curious to see who likes what and for what reasons. Battery? Speed? Bloat? Style? i also think it would be cool if you added a link to the Roms thread so people can try out your favorite for themselves. i am currently flashing up the ladder to achieve the proper build that will allow me to flash the new rom without hiccups and will give my 2sense when i have had a chance to give it a throttling.

Agreed.

Tried them all and absolutely loving Sacs Note 5 Moar port. You can't get it on the forums - you have to pm Sac and he will invite you to his hangout.
Only negative on this rom is battery life. If you are one of the folks out in the wilderness with no power or just afraid or to lazy to plug your phone in - this might not be the best rom for you. Though some folks do get good battery life. Some do not.

I'm on rooted OK1, nothing fancy, no custom ROM, just a couple Xposed modules for battery life, Nova Launcher and a few simple tweaks, otherwise fully stock.

That underground moar port isn't something that I would recommend to anybody. It is not able to be publically released here at xda-developers.com because permission was denied to port that rom for very good reasons. Secondly that rom was not built correctly and it has major problems and will most certainly overheat and damage your cpu and/or battery. I do not recommend anyone to flash or run that underground rom. There's a good reason why it is not a publically released rom and why it has yet to be finished and done correctly. He would have to copy my work to resolve his issues if he hasn't already. Ofcourse i have seen him state that he is going to rebase his N5 ports with my rom. Waiting for that o be posted so we can finally get rid of this type of behavior once and for all. Too bad he can't build his own rom from scratch like I did.
So no this is not a rom that should be recommended to the OP. Just my opinion and my advice to those who are unaware of these things. People deserve to know.

Yes man i really like your n5 port im using it..

<<<Clarifications about AOSP ROMs before jumping ship!>>>

So I'm still on stock LG ROM.
I have always liked and used AOSP ROMs on all my previous phones and now I want to use Android 4.4.2 but I have please some questions about these ROMs for our G2 before going into this:
1-Un-intrusive calls: (call popup)
Does "call heads" or "call popout" from play store work perfectly and can replace original LG implementation of this feature?!
1'-Does OmniROM implementation work perfectly always like LG's?!?
2-Call recordings:
Is there is any call recorder apps that work on these ROMs like the xposed module of G2?
I mean clear phone call recording of BOTH ends (perhaps on kernel level).
3-Screenshots editing
Is there is any app that is similar to quick memo and allows quick taking, editing and sharing of screenshots on the go?!
4-Screen casting (Miracast)
Does screen casting on these ROMs work like on stock LG?
I have a smart TV and I cast photos, videos etc... to my TV with just a simple click.
5-GRAM
Does GRAM work on these ROMs as far as you know?
6-AOSP camera
Is now AOSP camera 13MP or it is still on 8MP?
How is its quality compared to LG one?
7-FM radio
Any way to get FM radio working on these ROMs?
8-Stability and bugs
How is stability on these ROMs? Any known bugs?
Is there is any nasty wakelocks or something to worry about?
Does YouTube works?
Gaming performance?
9-Battery life
How is battery life compared to stock?
Please include numbers/screenshots if possible.
10-Exchange emails
I have always had bad experience with Exchange emails on AOSP ROMs.
Push email never allows phone to go to sleep and even with high intervals as high as 4hrs I still had like 2 hrs of wakelocks due to this email.
This LG G2 is the only phone where I have none of these issues.
11-LTE
LTE on these ROMs?
Thank you all for answering all these if possible :victory: :fingers-crossed:
That's quite a list you have there. I think you'd be better off making a backup of your stock set up and then flashing a ROM and testing out some of these questions for yourself.

Excuse me to say that you're both trying to be smart!
First, I will install some AOSP roms anyways.
Second, still after doing so, many of the clarifications I asked about will still be unknown to me since I am about replacement apps or methods that I don't know or others...
Bottom of the line, if you're helpful you are most welcomed, if not please don't answer! That's better for your image!

Nobody is trying to be smart with you Life Engineer. The fact is, your best source of information for a comprehensive list such as this, is Google and your own trial and error.
Here in the troubleshooting section of the G2 forums, it's very off topic to be asking some of these questions, like the specific ones looking for replacement apps or that one about battery life and explicitly requesting empirical evidence.
None of us are trying to be rude here, it's just that what you're asking for someone(s) to do, comes across as your own dirty work. And honestly, I don't think anyone that reads this is going to give more than maybe one straight answer.
In any case I wish you the best of luck and hope you find what you're looking for.

Can I donate to you for this genius answer?
Strange, but I almost thought this was the Q&A section, exclusively for what this individual is doing asking questions for which he seeks answers to.
Since the lot of you have obviously no answers that help this individual with his very specific questions that are simply answered with a yes or a no, could you kindly refrain from commenting at all and possibly crawl back into the holes from which you have come.

I dunno about any ROMs having call recording integrated into the ROM but I do know that Call Recorder should work just fine.
Screen recording and screen casting works on PAC-man and ChameleonOS 4.4 ROMs, as well as plain ol' CM-11.0 with the Screencast app

Still not sure about GRAM. I was actually looking for some more info on it when I stumbled across this thread.

S5 Sport rooting?

Hi!
I did a quick search, didn't see much. I ordered the S5 Sport edition from Sprint and it arrives Monday. However, I've been very interested in the M8 HK edition, mainly for the earbuds. I'm actually thinking about keeping the S5 Sport but because it's so new I can't really find much on it on the scene!
After reading a lot of reviews, both phones appear equal - I'm leaning towards the S5 Sport for the physical buttons but I just want to see if I can install custom ROMs on it (maybe regular S5 ones?) .. either now or in the near future. The other stuff is there just in case someone wants to comment on their personal experience with it. Also, below you can ignore, but I'm listing out the comparisons I made briefly while typing this out in case anyone wants to comment on something with their personal experience.
Is there anything in development for the Sport? Is it even that popular of a phone yet? I love to customize and I'm interested in actually using the bloatware it comes with, but if it turns out it's a battery drain and/or I don't use it, I'd want to put on a clean slate ROM.
I love the water resistant certification. I can use it with wet hands and not feel like I'm potentially murdering it.
I love the physical buttons (which is why I ordered the Sport) because I hate the S3's (phone I currently have) capacitative buttons. The M8 has buttons on screen which I hate even more but I would be able to deal with it.
I do take a lot of random pictures and I'm loving the 16 megapixel camera. I've read that the M8 camera is not awful though and the ability to refocus is great.
I heard the S5 can be laggy. The M8 seems to have a better optimization.
The sport is the same as the s5 active ...its just sprint naming of the phone ...

Does this mean I can use the the same custom ROMs? I figured it'd be different because it's a different carrier (Sprint)
U wouldn't b able to use the roms from att or t-mobile active but the root method would be the same I believe since it's same hardware just different radio bands enabled and disabled

Man, all I want to do is root it.. =\
UPDATE:
I don't regret my purchase. The S5 Sport is EXTREMELY BLOATED! I wanted it for the physical buttons .. it was very painful to sure until the root came out. I downloaded an app to remove the majority of the bloat and now my phone is excellent. Slightly quicker and less annoying popups (and my apps are less crowded). Threw on Nova Launcher Prime and it is good to go.

AOSP Rom

Was able to get a ROM built and running based on LRX21V straight from source. Just trying to get a feel on how many people would want to run AOSP. There are some bugs present such as video recording causing the camera to stop working. I think there are binaries missing that Google didn't include in the binaries that are available. Same problem happened on the Nexus 5. Didn't test it much as I just purely wanted to see if it booted.
Also there is a lack of gapps available so I won't be rushing to get anything out. Let me know what y'all think and I'll try to tackle this to get some other options out for us.
Here is the test build for those that want to have a look. This is just a test build so bugs are to be expected. Video recording does not work. Haven't tested it completely as I need a fully working device this weekend. This is for those that have free time to just nit pick and find all bugs in this. Please report back after you are done and let me know what else you may have found that is broken or not working right.
Stock Google kernel (so if you flashed the kernel image to remove encryption your phone WILL be encrypted again)
Built off 5.0.0_r7 from AOSP
Flash ROM, flash gapps and flash SU that is linked below. This will allow root access on the stock kernel.
You can also optionally flash the custom boot image after flashing the ROM, gapps and SU by rebooting to bootloader and fastboot flash boot the custom encryption kernel. That is optional. Be sure to go back in to recovery after flashing the kernel to reflash the SU to make sure it was not overwritten.

That is pretty offensive. It is a new device and isn't in the developers hand so releasing work without testing their work leads to quality problems.
I don't see you doing any development work and developers don't owe anyone anything as they do all this work as a hobby pretty much.

I know the reasons behind it, which was the point of the "no offense." I wasn't whining. I was trying to help motivate and encourage OP. He, as well as others, are working on making things happen and I'm excited for it and waiting eagerly for the kernel source to drop.

No. Minor bug fixes for the particular device it was made for but that's it. I did notice on the N5 that there was a significant "miscellaneous" battery drain on r7. Might roll back to r3 if its present since r3 is the one for us (its also the same build for the N5).

Well, I bit the bullet. Only lost a few downloads.... But anyway.
Sound quality seems.... Different? Also network says its connected to LTE, but its beyond slow. Not sure why exactly.
I'm on the correct APN.
Closing apps, I hear a slight buzz/tap three tomes when hitting the home button.

I was getting weird audio sounds at first... I don't know if it was the update when I got home that fixed it but it's been non existent since the first couple of hours I had the phone

Just switched from the m8

Not sure if I'm going to root yet as I'm still trying to get used to this phone. So far it seems ok.

Rooting will not change the phone experience in any way... Swapping ROMs improve it though.
Welcome to the Note 4, I'm sure you'll love it!
Let us know how your experience goes.
I really love my Note 4. I am currently running Infamous ROM 2.8 and the performance is incredible. It blows the stock ROM out of the water.
Welcome to a real camera
I'm in a similar situation. Came from using a nexus 4. Not sure if I want to root or which Samsung apps people tend to turn off and which they find useful. Fun stuff though. I think I'm gonna wait for lollipop update and decide then.

Go a week or more and then decide which apps you'd like to freeze or leave alone.
Should be enough time to get a feel for it and decide which apps you like.
I would like to know if there is any way to get the voice activation on Google now to work while S-voice is on

Oh, but it will.. And it does. Rooting alone allows you to do most of the things you can do on a custom ROM, but you're doing it to the stock ROM. Even without a custom recovery, you can still modify system files, freeze/uninstall system apps, run root apps, etc.

Oh I know that, but I meant rooting alone does not degrade the experience. As you rightfully said, the experience can be improved drastically while rooted even on stock firmware.
Cheers ?

Take a look around the Q&A and General sections. Most questions you have, already have been asked

i also have an upgrade available but im not sure if i should use it on the note 4. it is tempting but in a few months the m9 will be here along with other s810 processor based devices. Plus i hear the n4s battery life isnt that great.

I would definitely root and flash a ROM asap. Stock rom is ok but any of the TouchWiz ROM for T Mobile will flat out just feel snappier.
Played with a n4 at bestbuy today. Lagged like hell for me. Even the samsung rep saw it. To say the least i walked away.

Welcome to the majors op. You'll love it. I had an m8 before. The freedom of having an unlocked bootloader, root, and plenty custom roms got me away from HTC, as well.
No more having to s-off and the firewater exploits being closed and lack of roms.

Where did you hear that the battery life isn't good?
I typically get 2.5 days per full charge with between 4.5 and 6 hours of screen on time per charge depending on if I am reading, or doing media (games, youtube).
If anything I would wait for the Note 5, but that will be a while. I'd suggest getting the Note 4 because it's quite simply a very amazing beast of a phone and then using JUMP to upgrade in 6 months if you so desire.

Compared to the process of rooting a htc how difficult is it to root the note 4
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
It's way easier to root the note 4:
You're in in 5.
Here are the instructions:

Had to do one at my parents house.
It took me 10 minutes because I was downloading a rom, at the same time, and my parents internet sucks.

lol ... Your account should be banned.
i think there's two, and i've tried them both - but back on v5 if that helps. both can be downloaded here: http://www.miui.com/download-110.html
the first one is miui_i9505_shiro_5.5.22_297f4c9327_4.4.zip - works ok but google apps won't work & I can't get titanium to run (freezes at 'checking for sqllite'). I've tried both clean flash and dirty on top of v5. In a clean flash wifi won't enable.
the second one is miui_i9505_rainbow_5.5.22_6a27167d52_4.4.zip - everything was great with this apart from one thing, 3rd party apps can't switch on mobile data. this is shown as 4.4 kitkat so might not be linnked to the lollipop changes, but even with a rooted phone various toggles i tried & more importantly automateit couldn't enable mobile data (it can disable no problem).
so for me, one has wifi probs, the other data toggle probs. both deal breakers so i'm back on the one here.
another Shiro version released today, same link as above. trying it later...
edit: still hates titanium.
Are there any mirror for these downloads? I cannot do better than 3K/s
I'm surprised people actually want to run MIUI. As good as it's interface is, and as beautiful as it runs, it ain't a patch on any TW ROM. Very strange.
And I use a genuine Xiaomi phone as well!!

I don't see why people like MIUI vs TouchWiz or AOSP, or CM.
MIUI is big and bloated and slow and full of Chinese unnecessary dog****. The Redmi Note 4G (my phone) runs MIUI V6 and seems to have lots of problems but when I flashed a Lollipop CM12, improved hellishly, but no camera so I couldn't keep it

each to their own I guess. I've used miui for a couple of years now, occasionally trying other roms but never last more than a few hours before restoring.
not bothered about convincing anyone else tho.

Oh I wasn't looking for an argument, was just hoping you could tell me what I'm missing when I switch away. The phone I have right now, runs MIUI, so trust me, I've got lots of experience, but to me, it just isn't worth the bother. Plus, their update cycle is painful.
I guess it depends though, if you're a developer MIUI really isn't for you, but perhaps as a user, it might be more appealing. I find MIUI a really awkward platform to develop on.

zoinks, wasn't trying to be argumentative so sorry if it came across that way. i was just kinda defending miui a few posts after i was outlining how unstable the latest releases. so if there's an argument it's me against me.
