You will lose root if you upgrade to marshmallow. Should add that to the original post. May not be worth it for must since the update brings little change.

It does bring Doze which I think is pretty significant change as well as some some system os animation change

In my humble opinion, doze and animation changes are not worth losing root + xposed over. You can simulate doze functionality with apps and change animations with xposed.
I just wanted it to be clear to people that it's probably not worth their while to update right now as it is obviously a step backwards. My thread has been bombarded with mm root questions, leading me to believe that people do not know what exactly that they are getting into updating, they just want the newest thing for the sake of having it or something, I'm not exactly sure what the craze is.
MM will bring some great changes eventually, but as we have locked Bootloader/Rootless operating systems, it does not come close to the functionality that 5.X brings.
Just a little reminder for those that are on telus or bell that want to export the kdz of the update via LG bridge check in the AppData\Local\LG Electronics\LG Bridge\SWUpgrade it should be inside another folder. Do this before doing the other step !
But for downloading the update after updating for the first time with mm, the easiest way is to plug the cell phone to the computer, start LG Bridge, go to software update and select Update error recovery, wait until the download of the file start, then you can just unplug the usb cable and finally export the kdz.
Someone could correct me if im wrong ?

Hello,
I have a Sprint Galaxy S4 (but you knew that.) that is currently running 4.4.2 Android. I have rooted my phone, but I never installed any roms, I am still using the stock touchwiz. For a while now, my phone has been telling me "system update downloaded" and wants me to install it.
Basically: How do I go about updating my phone without breaking something due to my root status. Should I un-root? Should I just hit update? I'm skeptical because I don't know much about fixing my phone if I accidentally brick it.
Alternatively, would I be better just getting a rom, like Cyanogen? I don't hate touchwiz as much as I probably should, haha.
Side note, I apologize if this has been raised before, I have been searching for answers to this since the first time my phone notified me of the update, between Google searches and searching this forum, I haven't found a topic that addresses my issue.

You coins just try a custom Touchwiz ROM like mine (Wicked X). You can't install the OTA on a rooted system, you need to unroot to take the OTA.

NOUGAT IN POLAND!!! DOWNLOADING RIGHT NOW, SO EXCITED!!!
I ve root..can i update normally or i have to download the zip and flash via custom recovery?
Working pretty well, seems to be a little bit faster than MM
Feels snappier now. It also supports the "fastboot oem off-mode-charge 0" command now too, so its the perfect replacement for specialized Nexus 7 installs.
So uh... if I have root, what do I do to get it to nougat rooted?
The stability/cuts with WiFi is better in this new ota?
Flash with full version ota with FlashFire it'll inject root and keep the TWRP recovery all in one shot.
Any idea for release date on LTE no-US model ? (RoW)
I didn't have the update
I tried FlashFire it got me stuck in a boot loop
Got the update notification as well! Downloading it right now!
Full for wi-fi k1 5.0

the thing that's keeping me from updating is xposed support. Also did anyone keep their root after upgrading?

did you keep root tho?
I'm rooted via instruction from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/how-to/how-to-root-s7-edge-t3410470 and continually have to adjust settings just to have mediocre performance, not even to speak of other issues there seems to be no workaround for (like the OS not being able to handle background apps properly so I'm getting notifications late, or not at all...But I DO get notifications from apps/games I haven't opened or played in a week). I also signed the petition to unlock the bootloader. I WANT the keep the fight going, but I NEED a properly working phone more (ultimately, my way to really show my dislike of Samsungs lockdown decisions is when I buy my next phone from someone else!).
So I ask, what should I put on my phone for the most reliability and performance? Is that the current stock Marshmallow? Nougat? Or something else?
Thank you.
Stock whatever if you really wanted root sorry to say this is not the phone for you.
Stock TMO Nougat, very closely followed by stock Universal Marshmallow. Some people are experiencing very minimal lag with rooted TMO Nougat, which gives me hope for rooted Universal Nougat.
Definitely rooted nougat.

Care to share your kernal settings? I'm having a very bad time with my root on ENG kernal. Do you suggest a different method?
Thanks for the replies folks. I decided to go with stock nougat and so far it's been like a breath of fresh air when you've been breathing nothing but convoluted smog and I haven't even debloated it yet.

Seems to me root isn't the way anymore forbs7, lot of bricked phones, everyday people saying they're stuck in a boot loop or its laggy after root. The only reason I would want to root is to disable native upsampling across the whole system. Right now disadvantages > advantages imo. Other than that there is nothing else I want to do that I can't already do with Nougat and formely MM on my S7E.
I wish they would release the U version...

Hey all,
I am running one of JKRuze's ROMS and have been for over a year. It's basically a slightly modified, non-rooted version of Android 7.0. My spotify has quit working, and one of the final questions their support team asked me is if I am running a modified OS on my phone. ****. So, I need to go back to stock. I tried following a method on here, but it failed to Odin. Anyone know if there is a thread around here with best method to get back to stock?
ODIN is the only method i know, never failed for me. try downloading files again( personally using U firmware)
Where can I get the latest U firmware? I have not been able to find a reliable link.

Yeah, I went to that link from another post last night, and for the life of me, could not figure out how to download. I hate when sites do that. Hide the download link in some obscure location with a bunch of other buttons with the word download in big letters that just lead you to some other bogus garbage...

Thanks.. That link says it is for SM-G935U. I've got the SM-G935V, will it still work?
Please help. I thought I had installed stock, but now my phone will not connect to cellular data. Data link seems fine.
Update... Never mind, I believe I have it figured out. I did not add the BL, CP, and CSC slots via odin.
Hello,
I have Samsung Galaxy S10+ unlocked which I purchased in March-2019.
It is not able to update to latest version of software. The last update it got was in April-2019.
After that it does not get any new updates. I downloaded SmartSwitch App, in hopes that it will update the software, but it also says the software update is current.
I contacted Samsung Customer care, they told me Factory Reset the phone. Which i don't want to do.
Is there any other way i Can force my phone to get the latest update?
Here are the screenshots of the phone.

You can use Frija and odin to manually update without root or wipe. You should find the threads located in discussion forum on the S10plus.
Did you ever do a manual software update or have software done at an official samsung authorized store or repair center?

Thank You Darkat. I used your method and was able to update it to the latest version.
I have one question, will it in future receive updates from Samsung or no?
Thanks

I assume that it would, my update came from my carrier, not Samsung. I did the initial jump in December to Android 10, i received Jan update, my Dec Build was the same as what my carrier released.
