When I get a voicemail on AT&T I get a notification from within the phone app and the AT&T visual voicemail app. How do I disable the notification for the phone app? I can't seem to find the setting...........

When I go into app notifications I then go down to the phone app, but not seeing an option for Voicemail.

Yeah you would have to block the phone.
Have you set the default voice mail to what you are using in the phone settings. I have mine set to Google voice and I don't receive any carrier voicemail notifications.
Open phone app. Settings-->calls-->voicemail. And set default to what you are using.

So when I go in there the only options for VM that I can select is my carrier which I think will still produce the prompt. So I took a screenshot of the number and blanked the voicemail number to nothing. My hope is that stops the phone app and then the AT&T app will continue as applicable. Will have to test it.

I am forwarding all of my calls to my Google voice account for the visual voicemail and voice to text feature. Here is the thing.... Google voice only has the option to refresh every 5 minutes minimum....
Everytime I get a voicemail, I also get an email which is push...
My question is, am I missing something or does the google voice notification seem like a waste of battery and system resources if I am going to get an email instantly anyways? Am I missing something here?
EDIT : Title should read : Google Voice Voicemail notification necessary?
in the options isn't there a box to check if you want sms and email, or one or the other?
ya i just looked, there is
In the app it doesnt have that option, but im not sure about online. My question is i guess, why would anyone want "Voice" voicemail notifications if you already get them over email. Its just one more running auto refreshing app, right?
brinkley: What does that have to do with it? You use GVoice to email so you don't need to use/pay for SMS.
But yes, it's basically a waste. Every 5 minutes for GVoice means I almost always get the e-mail notification early instead.
One thing that I am hating about GVoice integration is not being able to remove the reply text when you try to reply to an SMS via email. So your SMS reply ends up being like:
Hey! Yes, meet us there at 5:30

So you HAVE to go into the GVoice app to reply to an SMS if you don't want all that junk.
Additionally, I hate how even if you get a gmail or gvoice notification, when you go into gvoice or gmail to check, the notification does not go away? It's retarded. Additionally, why give me a GVoice notification, WHEN I'M IN THE APP!
Ugh. It's super annoying.

Well you want the notifications going through the Google voice app because you just click on the notification and listen to the message streamed to you. If you have it go through your email you can see the transcription but not listen to the message. I would go to the website and unclick send email if you have the google app.
ya I had it set up and was getting three notifications, sms, email, and voice notification in the bar.
uncheck the boxes online in settings menu so it looks like you'd get no notifications.
then you just get the voice app notification on the phone.
aldo, I have no idea what you mean. I use gv for voicemail only

Glad someone agrees. I don't use google voice for anything except visual voicemail, but it just seemed redundant. I get an email, I manually refresh voice, and there is my message.
Is there a way to turn off the "email" notifications when receiving a voicemail through google talk?

google voice? I did it from the website... voice.google.com
sign in... go to settings at the top, and click "voice settings"... then click the Voicemail & text tab and uncheck Email me the message to: and save the changes.
I think you're also able to do it from the phone itself in the google voice settings menu
Last night, I was going to flash CM7, 7.0.3.1. Did a nandroid of my stock, rooted, 2.3.3 rom (I flashed the GB update from x99Percent last friday). After flashing CM7, I was attempting to set up Google Voice, but was having issues, where it couldn't sync with Sprint, or something like that. So, I wiped data/cache/dalvik, and I restored my nandroid backup.
This morning, I received a text through Google Voice. I never receive texts through GV. Only voicemails. I've also noticed in menu, settings, call, voicemail service, I only have "My Carrier" listed, and not "My Carrier" and "Google Voice". Under voicemail settings, it shows my google voice #.
How do I get everything back to the way it was? I want texts to come through the HTC messaging app, and I only want voicemails to come through to GV.
Unintegrate gv and reintegrate. I had the same issue, and sprint told me it was because my phone was damaged beyond repair, which anyone who has ever owned an htc phone knows is bull****. This phone is a brick house and I fixed it myself on gv desktop site.
I had the same problem at first. To fix it, go into the voice app on your phone and under settings>sync and notifications> and choose to receive notifications via text message. Turn off inbox notifications, and your back to getting texts as normal.

That gets me very close to what I want. Now if only I didn't receive a text message when I have a voicemail. But, it will have to do for now.

Go Settings>Applications>Manage Apps. Clear data under the voicemail app. Next, dial *38 on your phone (asterisk 3 8). It should beep a few times and then hang up by itself. Update your profile. Get someone to call you and the voicemail should no longer be a text, but show up as a voicemail icon and be in your voicemail app.

Are talking about getting a text that you have a voice mail? If so go to Settings in GV click on voice mail tab>voice mail notifications >un-check the box that reads send text .
I started using Google Voice for my voicemail. Seems to work OK. But I miss having an obvious visual cue on my homescreen that there is new voicemail. Do I have to periodically run Google Voice and look for messages, or is there someway to get an obviouis notification on my homescreen?

I also do not get any notification of voicemail, but I don't think I'm using googlevoice as to get my voicemail I have to call myself. First thread I found about a similar problem to mine, still researching...
You need to download the Google Voice app. It will do everything you ask for and more.
I just integrated my Sprint number with Google Voice hoping that I would be able to text from Galaxy S4, Nexus 7, or Chrome extension. This seemed to work, but I would get duplicate threads from the same person. I read where showing "SMS & voicemail in Hangouts" with Sprint integration will cause problems (https://support.google.com/voice/answer/6023920?p=voice_sms&rd=1). When I turn that off my duplication problem seems to go away. This puts my texting back to the way it was before integration (buys me nothing). I am not really interested in any of the Google Voice functionality. I would like to receive SMS/MMS from all my platforms and thought integration would provide this. Can this be accomplished and I am missing something? Running Galaxy S4 with SACS-NG2 at the moment, but also run CM11-M9.
my wife runs integrated gVoice on a S4 mini with no problems. She uses Hangouts for everything.
Never had a duplication issue.
Did you make hangouts your default messaging app? If not, this could be the cause of your duplicate messages.

Hangouts is my default messaging app. Duplication is related to "SMS & voicemail in Hangouts", but without that can't send/receive texts from my tablet.

Disable Hangouts and go to whatever app you were using for messaging. Enable that app and uncheck notifications in its settings. Reenable Hangouts. I have noticed for some reason when Hangouts is enabled it does not disable notifications from other messaging apps. You have to enable the old app to disable notifications and then go back to Hangouts and enable it.

It's not a notification problem. The texts are duplicated or the sender will be duplicated with one message blank.
