Hi guys,
i've got the 32gb version and a lot of flac files
plus i'd want to connect a dac to play my flacs
now i'd like to know if this is possible :
usb split or usb hub
on one side have a usb thumb drive with my music and on other side my dac bypassing internal dac
would this work ? is the nexus 6p capable of "juicing" two devices without the hub needing to be powered ? don't want powered solution for portability
thanks
anyone?
I'd think that if it has the juice to power two devices a simple y splutter should do the job, isn't it?

I've been considering purchasing a WD portable harddrive for watching movies with my Tab 10.1. I haven't got my hands on a USB connector yet, so I'm not sure if this functionality is built into HC or a file manager. Just curious if anyone has had success with this; and if so, are you able to watch movies off the harddrive?
Thanks!
*BUMP* - OK, so no one has attached a portable 1tb harddrive full of blu-rays converted to MP4 (this would have been my first priority had I been able to purchase the usb connector... lil' bag + tablet + HardDrive + XBox controller = short flight)
What about using the usb connector thats included with a female-to-female usb adapter to access an external HD or use a XBox controller? I'll probably get an adapter later this week and let you all know if this is plausible/possible.

My boss tried using the gender changing USB adapter with no luck. It won't power the device through the USB. Maybe if the hard drive w as externally powered it would work?
sent from my BOLT!
AFAIK the USB adaptor isn't available yet

I know on the Galaxy Nexus you can root it and using a OTG cable and hook up an external HD/USB drive to extra room.
Is there any reason why this wouldn't be possible with the Nexus 7? Will there be performance issues in say streaming a movie off a USB drive to the 7?

USB storage is available at /dev/sda, all you need to do is mount the device which requires root access, which is easily done.
Bear in mind that any external storage will either have to be self-powered or flash based unless you want to drag a power supply for the HDD around with you as well, as the tablet won't supply enough current to power anything other than very low-wattage devices.
so picture it you're using the tablet for video or music running from a memory stick via OTG and you want to be able to power/charge the device at the same time without having to remove the pen drive is there any way of achieving this?
some kind of pass through device perhaps or a usb hub of sorts?
How to power with usb-otg
I can't confirm whether this will work for the Nexus 7 but it has worked on my Triumph and Photon 4G. Go to meritline.com and look for a PisenĀ® Multi Purpose USB Hub, White (sorry can't post links yet.) Plug your otg into the white port and the red into any available usb power supply (be it a laptop or charger) you may want to have an extension available depending on your set-up. For me this has provided power to keep device charged as well as interface thumb drives, card readers, etc, has even powered a bus-powered external hdd with no problems.
Is this possible yet? I would like to have the Note 7 permanently plugged in to the charger while still retaining the ability to use USB devices (i.e. using an OTG Y cable).
Thanks.
I'm curious as well... since PS3 controllers won't work over BT, I have to plug mine in when gaming on my TV, but then I'm at the mercy of the battery. My other option is to use my Moga, but I prefer to leave that synced with my phone since I can dock the phone into it (plus the lag drives me a bit bonkers).
Just wanted to bump this thread in case the situation has changed -- does anyone know if this kernel hack is possible to allow simultaneous charge and USB OTG functionality on the Tegra Note 7?
Hi guys,
I intend to use an old s7 edge in car with a USB DAC (Mini USB DAC signstek audio -- PCM2704). I plug into the car.
Since this DAC requires a power source from the phone, it works and audio comes out, but now I have no way to charge the phone.
I am so confused with all these issues with cables and hubs. I saw Nexus 7 had a special timur usb host kernel rom or something...
What's the bottom line... how can I power the phone and the DAC at the same time and have the DAC plugged to the phone?
Are there roms I can use or special modifications whatever, what cable/hub? Please let me know.
I'm ready to root this phone and install a custom rom, but want to use it for this purpose
Instead just buy a cheap fast wireless charger.

It's either USB-OTG or charging, you can't have both as hardware limitation (and i don't think any phone has that capability), unless you wireless charge
then how do those guys with the nexus 7 charge and have a dac at the same time with a Y cable?
i have nexus 7 with Y cable, but it works on some rons with enabled charging. thats why usb cable had many pins
