I have an issue that is driving me absolutely crazy... When my screen times out, the application that I am using closes. This does not occur on my G2 and I cannot figure out how to stop it from occurring on my Galaxy Tab. I know that I can increase the time before the screen times out, but I would prefer to have the app stay running. Anyone know how to fix this?
Ugh!!!
By default Android does not terminate Apps when the screen times out.
1. Does this happen with ALL Apps?
2. Has it happened all the time or only recently?
If it is recently, have a look at your installed Apps to see if there is something you have either installed or altered at the time the problem was first noticed.
As Beards says it shouldn't do this. What have you done to your tab, because you give us absolutely no information with which we can help you!
I do have Launcher Pro installed, but do not see an option to change the way it behaves when the screen closes. I have noticed that this DOES NOT occur when the tablet is plugged in to a charging source, only when running on battery.
As I mentioned previously, could you answer my previous questions.
Simply mentioning Launcher Pro does not really help in diagnosing the problem. You must be specific otherwise it is difficult to assist.
The use of battery only is interesting but need further info.
Weird.
Have you got power saving mode unchecked in display settings?
Not running an app. like JuiceDefender or similar are you?

Yes, this is what I am leading up to, rather than asking direct which may end up sending us on a wild goose chase.
I seem to be having a weird behaviour with my phone lately. Once in a while, it just slows down to a crawl, and intermittently vibrates (not the quick haptic vibrations, but maybe 1 to 1.5 second long vibrations). although the phone still responds, it's really slow, and i had to do a battery pull in order to get it property working again. I didn't actually have that problem, so i can't be sure, but the symptoms may match those of a bad temp root. (phone slows down, etc). I never waited long enough to see if the phone reverts to normal after a while, and i've always just pulled the battery.
it seems to be correlated to blutooth connections. it happened once when i was turning on an app (torque) ...and today, happened again while i was exiting from torque. i've been using torque for maybe 2 months now, and everything was fine.
the symptoms also doesn't happen all the time.
anyone know what the problem is?
i have a rooted shift, stock rom, and bc's 1.8 kernel running @ 368-1401 on-demand.
it's also possible that the OBD2 blutooth adapter i'm using with torque is a cheap knock off elm327.
This is a bug with Torque and Pandora. If you uninstall Pandora or turn off the car Bluetooth in the Pandora settings it will fix it.
I use both Torque paid and a cheap knockoff adapter also.

thanks for the response. are you able to elaborate on the bug? is it the combination of torque and pandora that triggers it? i do have pandora installed, but don't really use it.

This is from the Torque forum:
There is a good chance that you have another app or bluetooth pairing that is conflicting somehow – with quite a few EVO users (though it wasn’t limited to just the EVO), the ‘Pandora’ app was the culprit, but any app that stays active monitoring bluetooth could be the culprit.
Torque’s bluetooth code is rock solid, and it works on the Tab, so you’ll have some 3rd party app somewhere which is going crazy consuming all the available CPU power.

If you go into Pandora and go to Preferences then at the bottom is "Bluetooth for Automotive" turn that off and it fixes the issue. I rarely use Pandora myself and was bummed that I couldn't use both apps, until I found this workaround on the Torque forum.
Interesting. I also have my phone paired to my car...could that be an issue?
Is the fact that I've only experienced this recently inspite of 2+ mos of use, consistent with that thesis?
edit: nm. i went to the torque forums, and learned myself a thing or two. yup, definitely experiencing those symptoms. the dev was saying the newest version should have some workaround, so we'll see tommorow if it takes.

Hi Folks:
Is anyone else having this problem?
New Info as of 16 July. Sound Still Skipping
Unfortunately, I'm still having sound file skips when the tablet is off.
I did some more Google research on this, and I found several instances with regard to phones having sound problems with skipping and popping sounds while playing. Nearly all of those seemed to be related to either headphone issues or the Bluetooth xceiver.
I originally though this problem was specific to Overdrive Media console, but it has also turned up in the Music app. I also installed a couple of other music/sound apps to see if it may be app specific, but all of them had the same consistent behavior of the sound file...pausing at random intervals....and then continuing after a few seconds when the screen...was turned off. The skips DO NOT happen when the screen is on.
Going through Erica Rene's thoughts I went into the Running Applications Manager and turned off several services I wasn't using, including Neo Player, 3d Gallery, Skype, and even Music. I initially thought that worked, but I was wrong. Same behavior.
This morning I did a factory reset. No change in behavior.
Since I just started using the tablet for audio books and podcasts I honestly don't know if this problem was there in 3.0. When I did the factory reset I thought the tablet might go back to 3.0, but I was wrong. I am still on build Acer_A500_4.010.08_COM_GEN2 after the factory reset.
There seems to be nothing wrong with my hardware that I can see. These skips happen with the headphones in or out. The only thing that triggers it is turning off the screen.
Insofar as software is concerned, I've not done anything more except rooting the tablet (which survived the factory reset process, which did surprise me! ). Beyond putting in another ROM - which, unless I can get some specific thoughts that it will fix the problem, given my experience level I'm a bit leery of doing - I can't see how software would fix it now.
Is anyone else seeing this???
Thanks!!!!
=============================
I've searched Google and here on XDA for this and not found anything, so I'm hoping that someone can say something.
When I play a sound file on my A500, and then turn it off, the sound continuing to play is a very iffy thing. This works on my Nexus One phone, so I assumed it would work here. On my phone I start a sound file running (music, podcast, audio from an audio book or Google reader) and then I turn the phone "off" to conserve the battery, of course. The sound continues to play.
When I do the same thing on the A500 it is very rare that the sound continues to play. Sometimes it will stop as soon as I turn the tablet off, sometimes it will continue for several seconds and then stop, sometimes it will continue for several seconds and then pause for a couple of seconds and continue in this loop for the life of the file.
I originally thought that this was a specific issue with the audio books in the Overdrive Media Console program, but I've now encountered it with Google Reader and playing things through either Music or Rockplayer Lite.
Has anyone seen this yourself, or does anyone have any thoughts? Details on the tablet are below:
OS: AndroidOS 3.1
Build: Acer_A500_4.010.08_COM_GEN2

Could be some of the apps not playing fair.
Do you have a task killer or any add on management app.they can cause this
Also in settings sounds.there is a check button to control this.
Also do not hit the back button on the apt this will kill it
I had Google music going off when I would hot the power buttonbtobturn off display and it was ina task killer ibaccidently installed something I had on USB drive for my cell.it had a setting to close all apps on display off or sleep.
Erica:
Thank you for your reply. Oddly enough, something along those lines may be it.
I've not modified my tablet much beyond rooting it. I've not uninstalled applications and don't have a custom ROM.
You mentioned that something might not be playing fair. I have no add on management application, nor any task killer I'm aware of. The Applications area of Settings has been doing what I need in that department fine for me. So I went in and looked at what services were running, and specifically turned off the services and programs I know I was not using: Skype, NemoPlayer, PhotoBrowser, Acer Sync. I then tried a sound file, turned off the tablet and it did continue to play steadily.
Now I guess I just have to figure out which program is the culprit, but it seems evident that one of them is.
Along those lines, perhaps you can answer something else for me: Those programs I mentioned above basically started running services on bootup. How do I stop that? I don't use NemoPlayer, for example, and so have no reason to have any service from it starting. I took a look at the Settings->Applications area and don't seem to see anything there that indicates what gets started upon bootup.
Thanks!

I use titanium backup. It has a option to not only backup. But can freeze apps.Im not sure but you might need to have root for this feature.there are other apps on market to freeze them maybe someone can help by telling the app they use.just do not remove any apps Acer put on your tab.
You can get root easky look in Dev area
Put some new information in teh original post.
My sound also cuts out when tablet goes to lock mode. I thought it was certain apps. Removed everything as far as widgets anything running in backround on home screen but I still have the same issue its random. Tried a clean wipe/install basic apps root explorer and still had it happen. I thought it might be a audio codec problem. In Honeycomb 3.0 I was able to play AVIs with AC3 in mobo and nemo player now I cant in 3.1.
HC 3.1
Acer 4.010.02 Gen1
i have the probleme too with the sound when it goes to sleep when i stream webradio !
Just a thought, along similar lines when my screen is off sound will cut out after about 15 to 20 mins. I think for you as others have said you have something else that is causing the problem. For me I think it's just a system timer. Don't know how to fix it.
i have experienced a similar thing with some Roms I've tried and with them it was the built in overclocker that was the culprit. I had to change the profile in the overclocker to enable the playback while the screen was off. Same goes for overclocking apps such as setcpu.
I'm experiencing a skip with my email notification. I recorded a short notice (similar to you got mail) & it does a 5 second pause 1/2 way through. Didn't do it prior to 3.1
Notifications sometimes don't work, especially for calls. It stays connected fine with Nougat, though I can't figure out how to track sleep. The specs state that it can.
Until today. I added the watch as one of my "trusted devices" so the phone stays unlocked when they're in range of each other, and it disconnected. Now when I try to reconnect in WiiWear, it crashes and disconnects again. I've forgotten the watch, removed it from "trusted devices," wiped cache, reinstalled WiiWear, etc, and it still crashes. HELP!

Seems that way. Hopefully an update comes soon that helps.
I've had it. Constantly disconnecting, having to reset the watch to get it to connect again, and crashing assistant "SinWear" app. Pissing me off. I'm returning this.

Sorry to hear about your issues. I'm considering buying one myself. Do you think this is mostly a problem with the watch (i.e. hardware) or something with the connection between the phone app and the watch software?
Also, if you don't mind taking a minute to tell me, what did you think of the build quality and general usability of the Y3?

I have the Y3, and the connection problem is very real. Until yesterday, I could not maintain any reliable connection between the watch and my phone. The Bluetooth would continually connect and disconnect, and the m2d manager and receiver were very quickly being killed after the the screen turned off. Then I stumbled on the cause. I was checking the app notification log using Google gesture and noticed an app called Battery Master posting silent notifications. This app does not show in the app list and is not accessible in any other settings screen. However, when I tapped on one of the notifications in the notification log, it took me to the info screen for Battery Master and gave me the option to disable the app, which I did. Bluetooth, m2d, and notifications have worked perfectly ever since. So far I have not noticed any significant difference in battery drain but it will probably take a few days to know for sure.
Build quality of the watch is excellent. I love the watch now that the connection issue is fixed. The display is awesome since there is no black band around the outside and no flat tire. I've installed the ClockSkin launcher which provides a better looking interface and allows installation of all the excellent LEM5 watch faces available from the G+ user group. Battery life for me (after disabling Battery Master) seems to be about 10 hours.

That's good to hear. You should definitely make a quick Youtube video about the fix, or even just a thread here on XDA. I bet a lot of people never discovered what was the cause of their connection issues and just returned the watch. One question though, does that fix persist through a reboot, or do you have to disable the Battery Master app each time you start the watch?
Please update us if your connection issues continue to be resolved with that fix (or not).

It's actually really good. It's a solid watch, and it has a lot of good uses. I wish it did work with apps like Google Fit and Sleep as Android though, but it's not really necessary as those work fine with just the phone as is. It is supposedly IP67-rated water proof, but I don't recommend testing that by completely submerging it, or showering with it on. It likely is OK with washing hands, though. Or sweat. Never had a problem even with my original Moto 360 in that regard.
One thing these will never do is make or receive calls over Bluetooth. None of them will.
They are a stand alone watch phone. Never made to call through Bluetooth.
Cheers

Download the app Google Gesture Search from the play store onto your watch. This will allow you to easily search for settings options that are not accessible through the watch's launcher. Search for Notification Log. In the log, tap on any line that says Battery Master. This will take you to the app info page for Battery Master. You can't uninstall the app but you can disable it. This will allow Bluetooth to stay connected and will allow the m2d manager and receiver to stay running.
Using m2d, the phone will reconnect with the watch automatically if you come back into Bluetooth range.
Be aware that once you disable Battery Master, there is no way to re-enable it because it won't show up in the logs. I'm guessing that a firmware update or a factory reset would re-enable it.

The IP67 rating is a misprint, on the official LEMFO store at AliExpress, the listing for the Y3 states that it is IP65 rated. I took a screenshot because I know a lot of people were confused about that.

That's really too bad. I really would like a watch like my Gear S (which also allows you to use a SIM card) that can simply pass the call through the watch. For driving it is great to keep your hands on the wheel. I wonder why the feature isn't on more watches. It seems like a no-brainer.

Neither Wiiwear or Sinwear will run on my Nexus 5x. I think it's an incompatibility with Android 7+. You can sync notifications to the Y3 using m2d once you fix the Bluetooth problem by disabling Battery Master.
I've been using NordVPN on all my devices, but have always had an issue with it staying on on my OP6T, especially now that I'm running 9.0.13. I'll establish a connection and let it run in the background. However, after about 2-5 minutes, it seems to automatically disconnect. I've ensured that it's not being battery optimized, I don't have any hibernation apps running, and I'm on stock kernel. I'm rooted with magisk and running sysconfig module, but didn't know if it's supposed to affect VPN apps. Would it be better to run it through a third party VPN app? And if so, is this an issue with OOS or NordVPN's app? Normally, I'd suspect the app, but I've had issues with WearOS on OOS as well, so that's why I'm asking. I like being able to use their CyberSec feature and I didn't think it was available through third party apps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hello!
This is caused because OOS is killing the VPN app. It happened to me too with a lot of apps. Maybe with some kernel tweaks or "systemizing" the apps or other tweaks you will minimize the chance to an app to be killed by OOS, but have in mind that soon or later OOS will kill your app. No matter if it's a health app, music player app or anything else. OOS will kill them even if you are using only 3GB of RAM.
For the VPN app, check if NordVPN has config info to allow you setup manually any VPN profile using IPSec XAuth or L2TP/IPSec , and set it to VPN always connected. I know this is a pain because you'll have to manually enter every config for every server you use with your VPN provider. Anyway, from time to time you will notice your connection isn't working and will be because OOS will kill even his own connection.

I guess that makes sense. When I was running pixel experience ROM, it seems to not have any of those issues. I just wanted the most polished experience and I figured OOS was always that. But I have noticed that a lot of Chinese oems tends to have pretty aggressive hibernation settings and it isn't far fetched. I just never had this issue on my OP3 back in the day and I loved OOS. But then again, I was running AOSPA a lot too and maybe that's why I didn't have this happen a lot. That kinda blows... I'm typically all about using custom roms, but with the fingerprint scanner on this one, while it is usable on other roms, I still feel like it isn't fully polished. But I'd rather no apps being killed then a perfect fingerprint scanner. I just really like the native call recording and gestures that oneplus offers natively, and I know you can do these things I'm custom roms, I just feel like it isn't executed quite as gracefully lol!
Thanks for the input! It really means a lot!
I run a VPN on my router, and connect my phone to it when I'm out and about town, or at work when I want to connect to my security cameras. I've found after a couple hours the VPN connection is dropped. I'm just using the standard VPN in the phone settings, not a special app. I've never trouble-shot the problem because it's not a big deal for me, but in this case there's no app holding it alive, just a basic phone setting.

Yeah I gotcha... I switched to OmniROM because I figured their background task management tends to be a lot better, and it is. Been running my VPN for several hours now, and I haven't had a single issue!
Observation: just now I connected VPN using standard settings feature. Was working fine. Two minutes later a call came in and I took it. After the call was over I noticed VPN was disconnected. Clearly the switch to the call caused the disconnection. Note I never set up VOLTE. I don't use the phone much...

That because of battery optimization. If you have problem VPN disconnect of 2mins, try to set battery optimization to "don't optimize".
No, the disconnect is somewhat random. Sometimes it disconnects in a few minutes even when I'm actively using the phone. Sometimes it disconnects after about an hour, or it could be somewhere in between. I have a Samsung S8+ before, that phone has no such issue. The OnePlus phone is killing my VPN app even if I locked the app. I suspect OnePlus left some anti-VPN code that's meant for the Chinese ROM Hydrogen OS on the global ROM Oxygen OS.
I'm using Vpn to access to YouTube Music and I never have any problem.
Note: if Vpn disconnect youtube music will instantly stop.
I'm faced that problem before with Turbo VPN the connection never pass 5 mins due to battery optimization so I turn off battery optimization for specific vpn app. After that the problem never occur anymore.
Developer options>standby apps, all buckets should show as active otherwise power management is active.
When it happens check running apps and cache apps to see it you can spot what's doing it.
With Samsung's old version of Device Care I was able to find a corrupted Android Setup like this. Saved me a factory reset.
Developer options running services/cache apps is less helpful though than the former but may work.

I checked the Developer options> standby apps, my VPN app is set as "frequent", should I change it to "active"? Thanks.
Seems like some apps can be set to "Exempted", but that's not an option for my VPN app. My phone is fully rooted, is there anything I can edit to force it to be "Exempted"? Even WeChat was set to "Exempted", that's definitely not a system app.

Seems like some apps can be set to "Exempted", but that's not an option for my VPN app. My phone is fully rooted, is there anything I can edit to force it to be "Exempted"? Even WeChat was set to "Exempted", that's definitely not a system app.

I don't have the "exempted" option on my stock Note 10+. Not sure.
However the fact that you can set the bucket states in standby apps means the power management is active.
It causes nothing but trouble.
I stopped using it over a year ago and dealt with problem apps directly. Power management was contributing to excessive battery consumption as well as causing erratic behaviors.
Forget all those elegant techno explanations of how the bucket states blah, blah, blah... it screws the phone up proper
Android does quit well without it... just more useless bloatware.
Not surprising... Google will ruin anything if they screw with it long enough.
It's their nature
So I set the Battery Optimization to "Don't Optimize", my VPN app is now "Exempted" in standby apps. But it still got killed by the phone. The ROM definitely have some kind of anti-VPN code.

You need to disable all power management.
That's the problem, I can guarantee you.
When it's fully disabled all buckets will show as active and you won't be able to reset their states.
If you* reset a bucket state then navigate out of Developer options then reenter Standby app again the reset bucket will show as active ie it was unsuccessful.
The reason you can alter the bucket states is a software power management apk is running in the background. Find it and disable it.
It's probably the phone manufacturer apk but it could well be a Google apk (Samsung, in my case, likes to supercede Android/Google apks with their own).
Lol, I played with this a lot about a year ago...
The fact that I remember it so well tells you how much time it wasted and the aggravation it caused It's junk.
Just for giggles the worst power hog on my phone is Google Play Services. Disabling it solved many issues; I enabled as needed for Gmail, Gmaps and Playstore.
*edit, sorry for the missing "you".

Tunnel Bear
ZTE (another Chinese device) also does the same. It's frustrating as hell. My subscription to Adguard and VPNs suffer the same fate where it turns off.
I know China dislikes VPNs, but this is nuts.
