Core getting stuck at max freq - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Over the last week or so I've noticed that sometimes Core 1 gets stuck at max frequency even when I'm doing nothing with the phone. Has anyone else had this? I'm running Chroma and Franco. It must be an app, but it's hard to narrow it down.

If anyone is interested, I discovered it was the Xperia Clock Widget from the Playstore....

Underclocking Problems

Currently running VillainROM 10.3.0 (with Sense UI)
Does anyone get problems regularly on the slightest of underclocking (using SetCPU)?
Min at 245:
- Alarm wont turn off (only snoozes)
- Clock on Lock screen wont update
Min at 128:
- Music player becomes stuttery, took a few minutes for screen to power on to turn off music
Noone else seems to have mentioned it ?
Am I doing something wrong?
And its a bit worrying considering so many custom ROMs come pre-clocked.
Totally a hardware issue. Your phone just can't cope with the lower speeds. Not all can.
Mine will do 19mhz on sleep and wake immediately etc. but most others won't
Villainrom should default to the stock settings unless you install something like setcpu and define oc settings.
Not sure about other roms but I guess they do similar unless otherwise stated.
ah cheers.
i knew that some phones couldnt reach a particular Max clock speed, but didnt know it was a similar case with the Min clock speed too
You should try Cronos Droid. I am having the exact same problem as you on all OC'ed 2.1 roms, except Cronos Droid.
My settings on Cronos:
Screen on: 710 mhz
Screen off: 160 mhz

Rom'd HTC Hero randomly reboots

Hey guys,
A few weeks back I rom'd my HTC hero with VillainRom 12 and it was working great for awhile. Now however it crashes all the time, or just freezes up and I have to remove the battery.
I have the phone over clocked to about 650mHz. The battery temps seem fine.
Has anyone else experienced this problem before? Any way I can do a debug on my phone to find out what's crashing?
It's really starting to annoy me considering that I use my phone for my business and it's not good when a customer calls and my phone dies and reboots when I go to answer a call.
try overclocking to a lower extent
it might be because your phone cannot handle ur clock speed
(my MAX clock speed is 672... it simply crashes with 691 or higher)
You were absolutely right. It was clocked too high.
I turned it down and now it works great.
Thanks for the tip.
652 seems to be my max.
710 is my max, I can't go below 192 either or the phone starts to have a fit, I wanted to use a lower clock speed in "screen off" mode, but I'll have to stick with 192

CPU keeps changing to 800mhz

GT-P1000
CM10
Tried to find out if anyone else has this problem but no luck. I have voltage control set to start the CPU at 1ghz on boot, as well as settings. Sys Tuner Pro isn't set to do anything. I don't have any other o/c apps. Seemingly randomly, while using my phone my CPU sets itself to 800mhz. I can tell when everything starts to slow down, then when I check it, it has gone down to 800mhz. Any idea what is causing this?

[Q] Note 3 Android 5.0 CPU Frequency too low.

Hello, today I finally rooted my Note 3 with Android L and it turned out my cpu clock was set max at 1728 MHz. I can set it to to 2,3 GHz but it turns itself back to 1728 MHz. And it is really annoying as I noticed my device slowed down after upgrade (so much I started to think about buying new phone as I thought every Note 3 will behave like that). Anyone encountered this issue before? If that matters, I flashed official Polish ROM...

Lag in games?

Hi everybody, I'm using an XT1642 with RR 7.1.1 but had the same problem with stock nougat too (I thought RR would help but it didn't): Serious lagging in Angry Birds Pop. GameBench shows fps usually around 20, while on my old Xperia Z1 Compact it's almost always 60...
Does anybody have an idea what might be the problem?
It's possibly an issue with the kernel not online-ing cores. Even so, it shouldn't lag that far behind the Z1 (even though the Z1 does have a faster CPU).
I recommend installing an app called "Kernel Adiutor", and manually change the minimum/maximum cores of the "big" cluster of the CPU, or even offline the big cluster and see if Angry Birds scales better on 4 cores.
Thank you! Setting "minimum cpus big" to 3 did solve the problem. I assume that shouldn't be kept this way because of the battery. Is there a way to have the setting changed to 3 when I open the app and back to 2 when I'm not playing? Like in getools?

There are a couple routes to this. There should be 2 variables within the Kernel Adiutor (I use EX kernel manager which is definitely worth a buy, the dev also develops the ElementalX kernels) that are called "Up Threshold" and "Down Threshold" for the big cluster. Essentially, "Up threshold" marks the CPU load at which the CPU begins to online the big cluster cores, while "Down Threshold" is the CPU load at which the CPU begins to offline big cluster cores.
I set the minimum to 0, and my up/down load levels are 60 and 45, respectively (I'm a super light user, just some reddit and clash royale), and my maximum is 4. However, lowering up and down load levels may help as the load at which the CPU onlines is much lower.
However, this may not work regardless. Some apps scale weird on octa-core CPUs; I know that Chrome was very, very janky on early big.LITTLE designs.
With EX Kernel manager flar built in a "performance" and "battery saving mode" which can be toggled via a desktop widget. I find it super useful if I'm using my G4 for VR. Essentially, you can set the max frequency and CPU governor per each mode. It is a paid app however, but the dev is great (he has a kernel out for the G4 as well) and well worth the price.
Thanks again, I will loot into it!
