Please let the rest of us know if when you upgrade to 5.1, if your non-Verizon branded N6 shows as compatible with the HD Voice feature when you go to enable it. Thanks!!!!

When they get it. Isn't it rolling out starting now? I know that it won't happen instantaneously but once they get it, I am interested in knowing if they get the option of enabling VoLTE with a non-Verizon branded device on their line.
Nope haven't heard or seen anything about the n6 being pushed yet
I will flash as soon as i see it. I will try my best to remember to post back...
What exactly do you want me to test? voice and data at the same time?
Please grab the zip before u update. If its a staged rollout it would help others update sooner

Thanks, first you have to enable VoLTE on your line. So after you get 5.1, you would follow the instructions below to enable VoLTE on your line. It's Step 5 below that I am interested in - does a non-Verizon branded device show up as compatible with HD Voice feature?
http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/advanced-calling-faqs/
You have to remove any incompatible features from your line:
Ringback Tones
Slacker Radio Tones
Caller Name ID
Company Name ID
Then you:
1. Sign in to My Verizon.
2. Click Manage My Account and select Manage Products & Apps.
3. Click the Get Products tab at the top of the page.
4. Click Get it now to select the product or service you wish to purchase.
5. When the checkout window opens, choose the compatible devices you'd like HD Voice added to.
6. Click Confirm Purchase to complete the checkout process for the selected devices.
7. Click OK on the confirmation screen. If applicable, a free text message with a link to download the app from the App Store will be sent to the device/s you've selected.
There is another way to do it on certain Advanced Calling 1.0-capable devices (such as LG G3, Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, and Motorola Droid Turbo). These phones allow you to get Advanced Calling 1.0 right from your own devices. Simply follow these steps:
Go to Settings.
Tap Advanced Calling under WIRELESS NETWORKS.
Tap Activate Advanced Calling and follow on-screen instruction.
You've successfully added Advanced Calling 1.0.
Business customers: You can add the HD Voice feature in the My Business Account portal as you normally do or by contacting your company's Verizon Wireless administrator.

I can already add HD Voice to my verizon account with the nexus 6 but obviously it doesn't do anything yet. Hopefully with 5.1 it will actually enable voice + data at the same time

Did you have another HD Voice capable device on your line before the N6, like a Droid Turbo or an iP6?
I want to know b/c I want a white N6 and if there were any problems with VoLTE on the non-Verizon branded N6, I would opt for the Verizon blue one. Please let us know if you can do simultaneous voice + data when you update to 5.1, thank you!!!!
Just a FYI... I just went into my account and it shows that HD voice is compatible with my line (n6 from moto). I've had the n6 for a couple months. I was able to set it up through the account but obviously won't be able to try it until 5.1. But at this point, I'm feeling pretty good about it working right out of the box when 5.1 drops.

Thanks! I think it will be fine. I am not sure why the iPhones had problems and the N6 doesn't but it is great news!
I have a Sprint N6 rooted on Verizon and I'm wondering do I have to unroot my phone to be able to get the 5.1 update so I can get VOLTE?
I can't find the option to add HD Voice to my account. Could this be because I am on a grandfathered unlimited data plan?

Verizon Business line
I have a Nexus 6 on a Verizon government/business line. I'll follow up after Android 5.1 drops and let you all know if I get simultaneous voice and data. My line has unlimited data. I am not able to manage my account, so if a feature needs to get added, I need to get my business office to set that up.
I believe VoLTE is coming as standard in 5.1 regardless of carrier. We may be able to use it in custom ROM anyways.

I wonder if it would be worth or possible flashing the official Verizon 5.1 with support for visual voicemail and advance calling.

It may be necessary for VoLTE.
According to the release notes HDcalling will be included in Lollipop 5.1 so we not require to flash the official one. Not 100% sure it will work with VZ tho. We'll see.

Enabled stock tether with help of XPosed Framework and Moto Tether Module.
Tried the straitforward way of just modifying build.prop and moto tether module but wasn't able to get out to the web. Curious to know if all my steps were necessairy. Here is what I did to get it working.
Needed:
Root
SQLLiteEditor
Build.Prof editing ability
XPosed Framework & Module X Tether also known as Moto Tether
Steps:
Edited the following database with SQLLiteEditor.
\data\data\com.android.providers.telephony\databases\telephony.db
Opened carriers
Filter/searched for the word boost for my ignorance here I edit all of them.
Under column 'type' change any that say default,MMS to default,MMS,dun and also change any that say fota,ia to fota,ia,dun
Exit SQLLiteEditor
I rebooted and installed the XPosed Framework with Module X Tether also known as Moto Tether
Changed the Line in the build.prop ro.mot.tether_dun_required=1 to ro.mot.tether_dun_required=0
Rebooted and then it worked.
I did all of the steps listed above. I still cannot get my tablet connected to the internet when I am broadcasting the wifi network via the built in Moto E 2015 tether app. The tablet connects to the network using the password I created for it but will not load any webpages. They all timeout.
The moto E itself does have internet connectivity when tethering and when not.
Please help if possible!
Thanks

The exact same thing happen to me while I was tinkering to get this working. I thought it should be working and wasn't, that's why I thought the order had something to do with it and posted mostly for me to remember what I had done. I tried everything, pinged gateways, static IP address on my tablet, you name it, to try to determine why it didn't work. Double checked for dumbthumb.
My setup, stock firmware that came with the phone, unlocked and rooted, running TWRP for what it's worth. I have in the past disabled some nobrainer bloat and even uninstalled or disabled some of the Motorola software. Maybe I missed something i did that was silly between steps too but, nothing huge I think.
You are the only one who reported back so far that tried. Wish there were at least someone reporting success with feedback.
I just tested my tablet and it still works DHCP, nothing special on the tablet side. If i get a hot moment, I'll go back to stock and re-do the process to see if I yield other results but, for now I recommend trying again, clear cache's and normal Android type stuff. Double check that XPosed and everything is working, rebooted etc..

No misconception. I got this working with XPosed Framework for Lollypop enabled and working, with Module Moto Tether installed and enabled. There really weren't any settings for Moto Tether other than having it enabled in Xposed.
Good luck.
I have still been unable to find the right mix of settings to get my Boost Mobile Moto E 4G to become a hotspot using Wireless Tether (code. google.com/p/wifi-tether-treve-mod/downloads/list).
Can anyone help out and let me know how to get this to work???
Many many thanks.

Okay... I see some more potential confusion. The xposed framework module download is called x tether. There module after installation is called Moto Tether. Sorry if there was confusion. I'm on boost Mobile and its working.
Installed exposed and the x feather and modified the build prop, still can't get this to work. Do I need to do what the OP listed also?

I did do all of that as you listed in the OP. I was unable to get internet connectivity through tethering. It would only create the hotspot but didn't provide internet connectivity itself.
I am now trying to use the WIFI treve mod that is pretty popular with a number of devices. I am trying to find the right settings within that app to get that to work. So far I have been unsuccessful.

Great Job BRO..It worked for me great
I recently acquired a Sprint-Prepaid branded moto e lte/2015/xt1526 and activated with no problem on RingPlus. I have LTE data on the phone no problem.
But I can't share via the WiFi hotspot. So I rooted, etc, etc, and tried the two build.prop tweaks suggested here. Still no joy.
I guess the phone's code has been updated to ignore those build.prop settings that make it all too easy to turn on Wifi-tethering.
Guess I'll try hacking telephony.db next, since running as either root or userid radio and invoking the APN settings editor via the am command yields a message that APN editing is not allowed for "this user".....
Any other bright ideas?

Do you have one of the Ring Plus plans that allow tethering?
If you can get stock working I would be interested in the steps needed.
If not, you should be able to use WiFi Tether Router - $2.80 from the play store and requires root.
OKAY. Thanks. I tried several other apps with similar names but genuine "WiFi Tether Router" for $2.80 seems to be working fine now on my xt1526 on Ringplus (Sprint)
I just carefully followed the config directions for Xt1526 and Sprint on the developer's webpages. (The out-of-the-box defaults do not work and I required a reboot to continue...)
(I would have paid more for this!)
Hooray. I won't confess how many hours I spent today trying various hacks. I learned a bit about adb and android. But not nearly enough. And oh by the way - I have been a professional Linux/C++/Java systems programmer/hacker for the last 10+ years. Haven't learned all the ins and outs of Android, since it's so darned easy to just download an app... Actually I use my Android Tablet, wifi Tethered to my phone, ssh'ing back to my computer at home (JuiceSSH highly recommended too!) to get my work done while waiting for the kids or wife at the mall...
I was using another phone on another carrier which only required a simple APN add the ",dun" string/edit to get that working -- but I couldn't pass up the practically free plans that Ringplus is offering...
My xt1526 is "stock" EXCEPT, I did the Moto unlock the bootloaders thing and "rooted" by fastbook/flashing a TWRP recovery image, also from this XDA board, of course.

How did you edit the build.prop without root on the VZW Moto E? Or is this only for first gen Moto? I have VZW Moto E 2nd gen, android 5.1, activated with my postpaid sim.

I have a rooted Sprint pre-paid xt1526 comes with a stock Boost mobile firmware on a Ring+ plan with no tethering. Hotspot functionality is there and I can turn it on. I can connect other devices to it, but traffic doesn't reach to the internet.
I actually only need to modify the iptables every time after reboot to enable forwarding and NAT. Works perfect. "Wifi Tether" app works too, but it is a battery killer.
Tried everything everyone has said and still can't get it working. Device connects to hotspot but isn't allowed internet access. Any ideas?
Steps to enable multi-user ui-
Some variants of the G4 did not include multi-users out of the box. So to counter that I have put this little guide together for you.
To do this really all you have to do is add these two lines to the buildprop save and reboot.
You might need a build prop editing app or a different root browser. Root explorer is known not to save edits on the G4.
fw.show_multiuserui=1
fw.max_users=5
If you want to have the option in settings you'll need to add the two properties AND flash the attached zip..
The zip below is currently for Tmo only. If you want this option on another variant, I'll need your framework-res and lge-res apks.
Uhm, I wonder whats wrong, but on my H815 I have the multiuser when I pull down the statusbar and tap on the mu icon on the top right. Works normal like it should on lollipop.
Seems the G4 has this as default and doesn't need any changing. But what I found is, that only 2 users are allowed. Thats something, we need to change when root is here.
MOD EDIT: Dropbox image links don't work.

For the H811 it does not come enabled.
It's disabled on/by Verizon too.
Sorry than, seems we have a real interesting story about the G4 so far that every version has its own set of features enabled or disabled. The H815 o2 Germany carrier and some other H815 variants seems to have the MU function enabled by default for 2 users. Wonder if there is a G4 with more than 2 users enabled. And if the carriers can disable it too, well, funny -.-

Haven't really played with it on the G3 yet(Tmo left it off on LP update too), but it only showed two users as well from what I remember. Even though it says max 5 it might only allow for two on Lg.. I did notice on my Gpad that it has different user settings than on my G3. This might be because Lg's 5.0.1(G3) lollipop is a lot different than their 5.0.2(Gpad) and 5.1.1 (G4)
Edit: On the G3 it lets me set up 5 users..
Giving this a bump now that I can confirm it working in my 811!
I'm also on Tmo's G4 and it is disabled. I'm going to root today, when I get off work, to enable it.

Some people report that the Native Hotspot was not working for them. It seems like the only thing that actually fixed my Hotspot was deleting the folder ATTEntitle so please share your experiences and carrier. (I have KIW-L24 on AT&T Unlimited). Try removing ATTEntitle folder first and if Hotspot still won't work then try database edits below.
ROOT USERS-
Needed apps: Root Explorer and SQLite editor (paid versions)
*Make a Backup of Honor 5x in TWRP*
Using SQLITE editor app:
1). We will change 2 lines in /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/
In settings.db you go to global and add
tether_dun_required 0
Then go to system (also in settings.db) and add tether_entitlement_check_state 0
2). To edit build.prop use Root Explorer app's "text editor" to add net.tethering.noprovision=true
(build.prop is located in system folder)
Save and exit "text editor"
3). And finally go to system/app and delete ATTEntitle folder. (*If folder does not exist ignore this step*)
Turn phone off and use TWRP to wipe cache
After reboot Hotspot should work!
1a.* Alternatively, you can use adb shell commands(Non-Root):
adb shell settings put global tether_dun_required 0
adb shell settings put system tether_entitlement_check_state 0
1b.* Or using terminal emulated (root):
settings put global tether_dun_required 0
settings put system tether_entitlement_check_state 0
Probably still need to delete entitle folder in system/app or add line to build.prop.
Please report whether this helped anyone or not.

Any android phone I ever had I was able to unlock the Hotspot. The carrier puts something in the Stock rom that checks whether you have paid for the service, but it definetly can be unlocked.
AOSP android has "Native tethering" and even on a stock rom there is a way to take the verification check out. I just forgot how and where it is.(possibly Framework) Does anyone know where that is in Emui?
Here is the AT&T Galaxy S4 Hotspot Mod for stock touchwiz. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2535141 Usually it is baked into ROM as well.
Edit--Can someone who has already downloaded the Emui system for US version Honor 5x upload as a zip? Most likely I can find the file to fix Hotspot. My internet is not so fast.
If that's the case I would like to know as well. Hope something comes out. Still waiting on ROMs for this phone.

I am away from a computer but expect to get one later. (Mine is headed in for repair). I will use new TWRP and ROOT phone. I will try Hotspot but I expect it to still be locked. I f I figure it all out I'll upload the fix for others. May take a while.
Im on cricket/ATT . Rooted and its still locked. I think there are some apps if you have root that enable it. Ill probably just wait until we can flash a fix or custom ROM
I am on AT&T. All stock. I can WiFi Hotspot but the connection keeps getting disconnected. This is the only device that this happens on with the same SIM. Anyone else having issues staying connected?

Not sure if this makes any difference, but Are you using MicroSIM or NanoSIM card? I have the older microsim and No Hotspot allowed.
It actually checks for Verification. And then denies access. I need to fix this one ASAP. I'm looking through system but find nothing obvious.
In Samsung GS4 I think it was tetheringprovision.Apk and also framework-res.Jar. I'll keep looking though :what:

I have a nanoSim. It's not the SIM, I am sure of that. Have used this same SIM in at least 3 other phones with no issue on WiFi Hotspot. It's only the H5X that I have the issue.
well, i tried about three apps for tethering with root and so far no luck. Does anyone know of a third party tethering app that works on this os. (at least until we have a native solution)

I do not know of a 3rd party as I have never had to use one. I always unlocked Native Android Hotspot or installed a ROM with it unlocked already.
I have been trying to look inside the system for the code or apk responsible for "Checking for Verification" but I can not decompile the framework-res.apk where I suspect the code to be.
I installed the newest sdk and know Apktool works, but it will only work for other apks before 5.0 LP. I get errors every time I try to install the framework-res as all tutorials tell me to do.
I guess when you want to modify system apks you must install the framework-res from system as well. Does anyone have any advice for me or a better program for editing android apks/jar?
No clue on how to use those tools, but read up a little (tiny) amount of the apktool thread: apktool seems like a fun or at least interesting endeavor.

So It turns out I may not need to decompile apk. I now think the problem is in databases. I'm still working on this Hotspot fix. I feel I am closer now.
It is such a pain in my a$$ to have to take SIM card out of my awesome Honor 5x to use my older GS4 to turn on Hotspot when I'm not around true WiFi.lol. Hope to have a fix soon.
Hotspot is the only reason I got this phone. Hope you get it working.... hell I'll even give you a few bucks lol.

I have no idea why it works, but my hotspot worked immediately. On T-Mobile with 10 +year old sim card, that I cut down to fit the nano slot. Which suggests the carrier is the issue. T-Mobile has always been aggressive with hotspot and WiFi calling.

As far as I know they cannot fully block it. The block is within the device in the system. If I simply take my SD card out of Honor 5x and put it in my ATT Galaxy S4 I have working Hotspot. I just checked earlier today.

You can use Sqlite editor from the play store to edit the databases.I'm already looking now to see if I can find it.

I tried SQlite but it gives an error. If you want to edit database (.db) file on Android device I would use asqlitemanager and ashell.
It copies the database from the data/data/ folder in system and opens it in temp folder. I gave up and grabbed my laptop and used Windows program instead. I was looking at data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/telephony.db.
I think I edited wrong line though, because it made the SIM Card unreadable until I restored a backup. I tried changing "auth type" for my carrier (ATT Phone). Of course this did not work. I changed the line from -1 to 1.
I did some reading and saw somewhere that"auth type" uses integer 0-3
0 is for no authentication
1 is for PAP authentication
2 is for CHAP authentication
3 is for CHAP or PAP
But if this is true then why is there a -1 on some carriers?
Here this explains the format of telephony.db a little bit http://developer.android.com/reference/android/provider/Telephony.Carriers.html
I purchased a replacement phone and want to sell my G5 Plus. I want to make sure that I don't miss any settings which I previously had set on my Moto G5 Plus.
I doubt it -- but is there a way to view app settings when I no longer have my phone? Maybe some way of loading it into some emulator or something?
Thanks

You could dump it into TWRP and then try to load it into bluestacks or something.
You should do your future buyer a favor though and flash it to stock.
I've yet been able to activate a phone while it has a custom ROM. I always have to go to stock, activate it THEN go to a custom ROM.
None of the ROMs I've used in the past integrate the star code that lead to activation.
Forgive me I forget that menu's name just now.
