Yes.. Or you can use this method..
Place the zip inside Internal Storage (root of internal storage & not in any folder) or try root of the external storage.
Go to Settings > About Phone > Check For Updates
Click on YES, I'M IN & update.

This is because /data is not mounted...
You have to go to recovery mode to mount & push.
You can also try the PC-Suite in my signature, which will do this all automatic

Oke, choose backup rom from Rom Manager. It rebooted my phone, did a backup for:
Backing up boot,
Backing up recovery
Backing up system
Backing up data (took some time )
Backing up .android_secure
Backing up cache
Backing up sd-ext
Generating md5 sum
Reboot my phone. So now I have a nandroid backup from which I can always recover right?

there are the drivers you need.
Then download my suite and extract it. download this bootanimatio, rename it to bootanimation.zip and place it in /data/bootanimation in my suite.
Now start the suite and follow the instructions

I don't think you can yet, unless rooting enables it, since you can't read/write to /cache/. On the root of the /sdcard/ partition is a logcat.txt file (pull it via adb) that shows the initial update process. URL of the update, along with where it's stored and where the recovery expects to find it.
Code:
04-04 08:46:33.848 1289 2646 W RecoverySystem: !!! REBOOTING TO INSTALL /cache/bueller-ota-51.1.0.1_user_510055620-signed.bin !!!

Using any file manager, goto System folder and edit the build.prop file.
Change ro.product.manufacturer to Baidu. Save the changes and reboot.

[Guide] Mate 9 Flash Nougat Update Package and Rebrand

Steps:
Prepare and Notice
A. Backup data, it might be restore factory default setting especially using downgrade ROM version.
B. Unlock bootloader before apply manual update, the manual update package bypass auth through modified stock recovery.
C. After update successfully, device might be locked again.
D. Only tested China mate9 with MHA-AL00C00 and MHA-L29C636 ROM.
E. The manual update script use TWRP (Thanks to @Tkkg1994, @OldDroid)
Download Update ZIP
A. Get ROM update link through hwmt.ru. Click "filelist.xml".
B. Observe "update.zip" size, choose more than 1GB file size FULL OTA from previous step. Example MHA-L29C636B158 filelist Link, all three update files and path are in the filelist.xml content.
update.zip: Change URL last "filelist.xml" to "update.zip" download file.
update_data_public.zip: Change URL last "filelist.xml" to "public/update_data_full_public.zip" download file, and rename it to "update_data_public.zip"
update_all_hw.zip: Change URL last "filelist.xml" to "hw/spcseas/update_full_hw_spcseas.zip" download file, and rename it to "update_all_hw.zip"
C. Observe "update.zip" size, choose more than 1GB file size FULL OTA from previous step. Example MHA-AL00C00B167 filelist Link, , all three update files and path are in the filelist.xml content.
update.zip: Change URL last "filelist.xml" to "update.zip" download file.
update_data_public.zip: Change URL last "filelist.xml" to "public/update_data_full_public.zip" download file, and rename it to "update_data_public.zip"
update_all_hw.zip: Change URL last "filelist.xml" to "all/cn/update_full_all_cn.zip" download file, and rename it to "update_all_hw.zip"
Manual Update Package
A. Download Package (Direct uncompress Base, OS, and Model zips without file name as directory.)
(Rebrand thanks to @backb0ne5p1d0r)
(Oeminfo thanks to @5[Strogino])
Base: HWOTA_2017050101_Base.zip
OS:
Windows -> HWOTA_2017050101_Windows.zip
Linux -> HWOTA_2017050101_Linux.zip
Model:
Mate 9 -> HWOTA_2017050101_MHA.zip
Mate 9 Pro -> HWOTA_2017050101_LON.zip [Not Verified]
P10 -> HWOTA_2017050201_VTR.zip [Thanks to @crucky verify]
P10 Plus -> HWOTA_2017050401_VKY.zip
B. Run batch file "update.bat" or "update.sh" for same model update or rebrand with/without sdcard.
C. OEMInfo files are included for selection under rebrand.
D. Rebrand flash twice. Select "Rebrand" update type on the first time, and select "Same model update" on the second time. You may need to do factory default to get all app installed.
E. Follow message steps update should be done.
Hmm. Sound's good.
Are you hacking stock recovery to install everything what you want?
Did you test by self?
Main problem is to manually force update via stock recovery. But if you're using TWRP, so problem is to install full update. TWRP does not have support of special update commands.
Q: Are you hacking stock recovery to install everything what you want?
A: Only bypass auth and some checks. See Prepare and Notice B.
Q: Did you test by self?
A: Yes, see Prepare and Notice E.

I believe so too. (That in theory this should work for rebranding.)
Looking at the batch file, I'd say you're supposed to restore oeminfo while the batch file is showing "D. Connect usb cable before next step.". if you want to rebrand.
Would love to try it. But I've just used this method to update into L29C636B180. Wouldn't want to reset all settings again. So please try it and let us know what happens if you rebrand!
and to the OP, Thank you again! I'm honestly so happy that we finally do not have to use "proprietary" services as someone puts it to update our phones hahah.
