Couldn't Resize Video MMS Error - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Having a problem with stock Messenger. I can send pics but not videos. I took a short (5s) video on my 6P and tried to send it to my son. He's got a 5X. I get an error saying "message not sent: couldn't resize video..".
He's running stock Marshmallow MMB29T, and I'm rooted (same build) and running PureNexus 6.0.1-20160109 which is the latest version. He can send videos just fine and I can receive.
Anyone else having this problem? Other than the sending of videos, all is running good.

Im not sure what the issue is. I can send videos and I am on pure nexus. Maybe your video format is set to high.

File is only 4MB, the one my son sent me was over 5MB. Would disabling stock messenger and/or hangouts make any difference.
Oh, I talked with the First Guys too...here's part of an email I received from them. Others may find the info useful.
Thank you for your patience while I spoke with our specialists. I discovered the maximum size for an MMS with Project Fi is 8MB.

Try clearing your caches in recovery. Disabling the one your not using shouldn't matter.

Ok, clearing my caches seems to have worked! I can send audio & video now, just not video that has been already created.
Thanks for the help XxMORPHEOUSxX!

HTC Youtube App help

Hey guys I need your help,
Up until today I had this app was working fine, the only thing that I installed today and also uninstalled is coreplayer. Now the pic for the vids will not show up when I search for vids or have vids saved. Here's a screen shot...
Does anyone know how to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hmmm.. Having the same problem, but didn't know if Coreplayer was the problem. Anyone have any ideas?
Same Problem to me!
Yesterday i noticed that i have the same Problem.
(Only installed SPB3, but don't think that's the Problem)
yes i installed spb3 also and removed it i just did hard reset and did full back up and still have the same problem
Im having the same isue. Seems rather sudden. Also, im getting the feeling that the app isnt enabling all videos to be displayed. For instance when im looking for a certain music video that i would easily find on the youtube website isnt found on the app.
Videos will still play but the thumbnail pics wont show up, but in my saved videos tab pics show up prior to 2 days ago. Meaning the videos I saved a while ago shows up but if i try to save a new video the pic wont show up. How odd huh?
Same thing here.
I think this happened after i installed core player, not sure thought...
I'm thinking that this is actually a Youtube issue as I certainly didn't have this issue previously. Especially if it's happening after HR.

I just thought after Iinstalled coreplayer and sbp 3.0 it change some registry and couldnt change it even after hard reset. But I found something when searching for vids the thumbnail pics will not show up but if I click on the "i" icon to the right the picture will show up. There must be a fix and are you having the same problem?
I think its about time we get together to make our own youtube app. Im also kind of upset that im not recieveing the full video list. It seems like the videos i look for and know are on youtube arnt displayed on the app for some reason.
So anyone find a fix for this?
I believe that YouTube App shows only the videos which are available in High Quality and not Standard Quality as our PC does. That's why video lags too...
nobody has a fix for this?

I read somewhere it's cause by changes in youtube side and it affect HTC Youtube App v3. Older version (v2?) does work but you lose landscape view of the apps.

[Q] mms issues across the board?

After reading a post in the vanilla 2 forums about someone else having problems with mms...I got to thinking I wonder if mine still works with my wife's env3. Send a small video msg to my phone and low and behold, while I receieved the msg just fine...when it tried to play the video I'd see the first frame..then nothing. The progress bar would continue to run through but the video itself was not going, nor was the sound. I tried kaos v32, nonsensikal 5.4, celb 2.3, vanilla rom beta 2, tainted tenzo, ALLL of which had the SAME issue. While I had kaos installed I thought maybe its the messenger app so I tried chompsms...SAME exact issue. I DO have some videos on my sd card that play just fine. I changed the resolution that my wife's phone sends at still to no avail. ONLY thing I found that DID work is I installed xtrRom 4.0.6.1 and that DOES show the mms video properly. Any ideas? While I'm not knocking xtr but any chance...it'd be nice to know what the issue is and/or be able to use other roms.
The issue is specific to AOSP ROMs..
xtrROM has a vanilla feel but runs the stock HTC framework and messaging app. The HTC libraries and decoders are largely proprietary in my experience so they are not easy to just port over to AOSP...
Nice testing & feedback and I know tenzomonk is looking into it...

Yes this is not really an mms issue but more likely a video codec issue....do you know what file format the video messages are sent in? Although I would think the messages would be sent in 3gp if recorded on a cell phone so they really should play. Is there an option to save the video to the phone and then try to open it?
I was thinking it might be a format issue as well but they're 3gp format so should be able to play. Someone on irc did mention I could save the video and it might work but shouldn't this be able to be done by default? Hopefully someone can figure out a fix without having to save or install an additional app

Outgoing MMS pics blurry/resized/compressed

Hey guys,
I'm on a i9020a with CM7 and Netarchy OC kernel.
My pics get blurry when I send them out via stock MMS app. I receive pics fine though. I've tried changing the user agents but that's not working.
I can't recall if the phone did it on the stock ROM/kernel.
Anyone have any ideas? My N1 did MMS just fine. I searched but couldn't find anything helpful (ppl seem to be receiving blurry though, but that's not my issue).
Thanks in advance.
bump. no one else has encountered this?

It will resize pics to <300k for MMS, but mine still look fine in that size/resolution on stock. Maybe check in the CM7 thread.
Did you try handcent? It gives options to adjust mms file size etc.

[Q] Caller ID quality

I was wondering if there was a way to force the higher quality images that are tied to my google contacts?
I came from the Galaxy Nexus 4.3 and whenever I would re-flash a ROM I would get a lower resolution image for CID.
However if I went to view the contact it would then sharpen up. I cant seem to get it to work now for the G2 running CleanROM
I did upload the higher quality images to my contacts about a year ago and until now they would always sync up and show the high quality image.
Any help or insight would be amazing, I dont keep contacts on internal storage of my devices nor do I keep pictures on internal memory so that isnt an option.
Thank you for any help anyone can offer.

Have you tried, Contact Photo Sync, from the Play Store? I do not think Google offers HQ images.

since jellybean google supports 720x720 pics
HD Contact Photos from the play store works perfect. If you want to fix the problem as you say you are going to have to start somewhere so either use dropbox for the photos folder or sync them once from your phone with the app I recommended
Found a weird solution.... I starred all contacts... deleted cache and data of contacts app --> all pics in HD....

WhatsApp sound problem

Whenever I send an audio note (by holding down the microphone icon), in Whatsapp ... the audio seems to come out in a low volume. When I play my own recording back on my phone, I have to pump up the media volume to the max to hear myself at a decent level. The other party on the other end seems to find the audio low in volume as well.
The strange thing is, if I create an audio file with the built in Sound Recorder, and then share that to Whatsapp, it's loud and clear. It's not like my microphone is broken. Audio records fine in all other circumstances.
I know many friends thats happen the same with same phone

Just tried this out on a Snapdragon 800 Note 3 running 4.3. I am unable to replicate the issue, however the quality is noticeably worse than what it would be if I used the built in sound recorder. This is because WhatsApp compresses what you are sending though, which might be what you are experiencing.

It might just be worth re-installing WhatsApp? It could be an error caused by a recent update that only manifests when you update from an older version.
Everything still the same

I've changed my mind, I agree with you, the audio quality is awful. This is obviously an issue with the WhatsApp application, but as I state before I'm now 100% sure it's the audio compression, it doesn't work well. It sounds like I'm underwater!

Will do, the more people we can get to report this the quicker the issue should be solved.
Furthermore, if you use Snapchat have you noticed that you cannot record video for the full amount of time? It cuts it around 5 seconds short, you might not use it but it's just something I've noticed.

At the moment all you can do is report it to the WhatsApp support team here It isn't a problem with the Note 3, it's a problem with WhatsApp itself.

The Sony Xperia Z1 seems to suffer from a similar problem, if not the same. I also reported the issue to the WhatsApp support team.
I will report back if I receive feedback.

I received a confirmation email, telling me to look at the FAQ and if required to provide additional information. Since neither the WhatsApp FAQ held any related information and I provided all the details I know of, I thought there's no further action required.
I attached a voice recording sample in my first inquiry, which lead to whatsapp.zendesk.com. I quickly created an account (in my case just requested a password), verified my mail address and was able to see my request.
It was in the status "Awaiting your response >>" *head against the wall* ... So I sent another note, this time in English (sent the first in German language). Let's see what happens next.

Did you re-use the request ID you got by mail or did you open 6 separate tickets? Have you had a look at your request(s) at whatsapp.zendesk.com and if so, what's the status?

That's great! The more people report the issue, the higher the chances of getting some attention.
Have you sent a second mail after receiving the initial "Request receipt" confirmation? Apparently if one doesn't, the ticket is placed in status "Awaiting your response".
I doubt it will be processed but closed automatically after after a few days, if no further reply is received, because one of the three suggested FAQ topics supposedly solved your problem, it was 'just' a feature request or whatever ideas are behind the way of handling email requests that way. At least that's what my experience with other support sites / help-desks has taught me...
7 days ago, on Feb 7th I received another email from WhatsApp support. Unfortunately it was a busy week and I managed to reply just yet. The ticket was again placed in "Awaiting your response"...
I will continue to post my experiences with the WhatsApp support team in the Sony Xperia Z1 area of the forum.
This has been fixed now, WhatsApp acknowledged the issue and have repaired it.
