Bad Voice Quality - Droid Turbo 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I am from Austria and since the X Force ist now available in my country I immediately ordered it. I really love this Phone hence one thing. Voice quality when calling is really bad.
When calling I can barely hear my partner, there is a lot of noise which sounds like some interference from somewhere. It actually depends on whom I am calling though. Mobile to Mobile is quite bad, Mobile to landline is ok! Is there anyone else having these issues? I can still get it replaced by Amazon, but the Rest of the Phone works perfectly so I don't really want to have it replaced.

Hi , received too my MFX this week here in switzerland, GSM/3G call quality is good nothing to complain. Same good quality with Whatsapp calls . Noise reduction works pretty well too people hear me loud and clear .

We've got 3 Turbo 2's since mid-November, and the voice quality has actually been excellent. It's especially remarkable with "HD Voice" courtesy of Verizon's "advanced calling" when that's available - truly the best voice quality I've experienced on any mobile device.

Call Quality

Every other phone is a “killer” of some sort nowadays, but when you get down to basics the most killer thing a cell PHONE can do it make calls. I’ve had my X1 for about a week now and I have to say I’m experiencing the best call quality (clarity, crispness of voice, lack of background noise etc…) out of any phone I’ve had or used to date. Although it would have been great if the speakerphone was louder, maybe adding another speaker.
Prior to this I was using an n95. I’m running an X1i on at&t, mostly in Brooklyn, NY or NYC. Are your experiences similar? Note that I’m talking about the actual call quality, not reception.
I cannot say the same for me
neither can I unfortunately .. in fact, quality is probably the worse I ever had on a cell phone before ... I m on Vodafone, London zone 1
I would have to disagree aswell i think this is 1 of the worst quality sounding phones i have had i a long while when on a call, even if some calls me from a landline its comes out all muffeled and really hard to understand the person on the other end.

Agreed. Call quality is very fine.
I haven't heard any complaints from my friends also.
I am also getting the best quality compared to my Blackberry BOLD, Palm Centro and N95 8GB.
until now, no problems.
Call is very high quality. Only complain: at maximum level, there might occur some cracks. But anyway, you can't keep at maximum simply because it's too loud.
Anyway, i'm very satisfied with my X1i. Calling & data connections: the best i've had until now.
It is the best phone quality I ever had on a PPC -since XDA, XDA II, XDA IIi, Trion and Toshiba G900. And it is great loud. Even on a street with a lot of people and roadworking I can clearly hear the other side. It is the first time I am very satisfied with the phone quality of a PPC
Yup,i am having the best quality for calls, the sound is really crisp and so loud.
The first X1 I had was dreadful - awful quality - dropped calls all the time so I sent it back and got a brand new replacement from the second batch.
This is the best call quality I've ever had - Nokia, Samsung, HTC or otherwise. And don't be fooled by the number of Bars - There's a notorious blackspot where I travel with no reception - the X1 doesn't even fade!
Hate to think what it's doing to my brain waves!!

can you let us have some more details of your device?
Network branded?
wk build number (underneath battery inside)
Radio Version?
start>settings>device information
Rom?
I'm on
radio 1.06.25.29
Rom 1.02
curious to know if there's some newer ones coming out..
If the signal is low there are cracks and the quality drops dramatically. Especially when the battery is running low at the same time, it gets even worse.
Has anyone noticed that the sound changes for a couple of seconds when you press the keypad numbers during a voice call?
ROM – 1.02.931.3
Radio- 1.06.25.29
Xperia produced week 46
The earlier Xperias are the ones that developed the cracks by the stylus, had some peeling issues, I also think the earlier productions are the ones that overheat (no substantial proof ).. So it might just be a production issue.
Apart from the hardware (etc) the call quality should relate to whether you are talking over GSM or 3G. The call quality on mine is brilliant too.
Call quality is in pair with my SE M600i, clear and loud, only vibration is too strong especially during calls. Side speaker is a bit lower quality and not so loud, but that's the case almost for every other phone out there.

Improve outgoing sound quality in calls?

The out-going sound quality from Galaxy S during calls is bad:
- very little comfort noise (line sounds 'dead')
- overly tight noise filter that cuts of aspiration in certain natural speech sounds, making words cut off
- boxy, almost cardboard box type effect
- very high distortion
All this with the internal mic in a silent environment (no wind, noise), in a perfect network condition and in 3G or 2G.
Has anybody found a fix for this?
Upgrading the ROM up to XWJM5 (XXJM3 baseband) has not changed the sound quality at all.
I surely cannot be the only one who has noticed this?
Has any brave service menu tweaker found settings that relate to the microphones and/or noise-gates?
The only time that I get any sound distortion is when I make a call in less that ideal signal conditions. When I make calls and am in a a 4 bar signal region, the sound is as clear as a bell.
It's become clear that the microphone/drivers/implementation has some issues with distortion. Here's a thread about it, but no one has succeeded in fixing it.

Hay Vasra. I just noticed your post today. I am having the exact same issues and am awaiting a replacement (they are all sold out) It is indeed extremely horrible for myself and my GF. I was thinking it was an isolated problem. I spent a lot of time searching for other people with the same problem, but have only found yours. Here is a link to the post i made this morning, i described it quite a bit different, but seems identical to what your saying.. just a lil more technical.

I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread and the thread that was posted in the 3Rd reply.
Thanks for the updates.
I originally thought that the video recording's sound quality was down to bad codec and auto-gain settings.
However, it could be that this is (also) a driver level issue that affects both video recordings AND speech calls (outgoing sound quality).
Or it could be that samsung put a cheap mic in the phone I was talking to my barber who just got his vibrant and he sounded like a tin can or on a cheap phone. This is said. ..gonna get my galaxy s on Wednesday and now I feel like cancelling my order.
Well. I finally got my replacement. The sound quality is 110% better. Even the gps is working perfect. The sales guy said that nearly every one of the units from the first batch were returned as defective. The 3 button recovery and download is even working on both of the replacement units. Finally! I'm now very very happy with my new galaxy!

Very good to hear about your new unit being improved.
I think it's time to take mine back to the shop as well.

Poor call quality on Rogers arc

Has anyone experienced piss poor call quality on their arc with the noise cancelling turned on or off? All of my clients that I speak to say that all they hear is static coming from my end when I can hear them perfectly. Maybe I just got a lemon, but I want to knowif anyone else is having the same problem
I unlocked mine and am using it on Telus. So far I have not had anyone complain about the quality of the call on the other end.
Anyone else care to chime in? I tried a voice recorder app, and it seems that the sound is a bit tinny... Maybe I did get a lemon =\
No issues with voice quality. I think it is better than any of the HTC phones or the Motorola that I've had.

Call quality

When you call granny, does she keep saying "Huh?! Wut?!" or does the conversation flow pretty well? Rate this thread to express how you feel about the Samsung Galaxy Note 8's call quality. A higher rating indicates that calls are clear and crisp, and that regardless of background noise, you can hear the other party clearly (and with ample volume) and they can hear you.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Call quality for me so far has been poor can hardly hear the other person.....speaker phone and extra loud enabled and I still have to put the speaker in my war

Cristal clear calls, at least in my home city, I had a note 4 910c, it had a problem, the person calling me always complained about hearing echoes, no matter from where I were calling, really annoying, but no problem with my note 8
no problem with quality using advanced wificalling
Quality call here in Brazil is very good. Especially when in VoLTE
No issues with call quality here either (in Canada).
Call quality has been excellent. No complaints from me or the person on the other side.
Pretty **** on T Mobile hd calling. Scratchy and awful.

perfect on wifi lte calling, otherwise becomes less clear or loud. too bad samsung can't improve on that.
Since VoLTE became available, this type of calls sometimes do not work fine, the other side sometimes can not hear me, so, I ended switching to std calls, I think it might be a carrier glitch
Signal reception is lousy compared to previous Sony and Apple phones. Same network. Loads of dropped calls.

Signal is great here on my N950F and never dropped a call once. Strange.
I've had my Note 8 for about a week. In comparison to my last three phones (Note 3, ZTE Axon 7 & Essential Ph-1), people on voice calls tell me that I am more clear. They ask what I am saying far less often. Using sm-n950f (Exynos) on ATT in USA.

Pixel 4 XL / Sprint / Southern California
- WiFi calling sounded really bad. Was told I sounded like I was under water.
- VoLTE sounded not as bad. QWas told I sounded like I was on the radio in the 80's.
- CDMA old school regular network sounded amazing.
Not sure why I'm not having success with these "upgraded" calling techniques. But, whatever, CDMA it is.

Same here, I was told I sounded underwater on wifi
I haven't talked to anyone on WiFi, but one thing, signal didn't drop in some areas here that other devices always drop out on
I've been told that on speakerphone, I sound awful. Muffled and underwater sounding. Apparently, when holding the phone instead, I sound fine.
I haven't had any complaints with speakerphone on WiFi calling and mobile network. My phone is on Sprint.

Overall I was told I sounded clear over WiFi and also while on speaker phone however when I was in the car on speaker phone someone did say it sounded funny (I was kind of fidgeting and holding the phone weird though)
The weird thing is that video and audio recordings sound fine. I just seem to have trouble with speakerphone. Someone on Reddit who seems to be having similar issues to me speculated that it's aggressive microphone noise cancellation on calls, which I guess could possibly be the case. I just tried calling a landline on speakerphone and it sounded fine, but this is a different environment (quiet office as opposed to city apartment) compared to where I usually have had problems. It happens for me with both Wifi Calling on and off, and with speakerphone off it sounds fine, so it doesn't seem to be a signal issue.
ok speakers needs dual front facing with that ugly ridiculous forehead
Call quality is really nice with Verizon!
I don't like Verizon but the HD voice is what it is [emoji23]

No issues here in UK with Three. I now have WiFi calling, something I missed with my Pixel 2 XL. HD calling is superb, loud and crisp ??
T-Mobile unlocked device from Google, on WiFi-Calling all day at work, 4G at home, never had issues. It sounds great for me, and nobody has said otherwise when I'm on the phone with them.
I'm in the UK and I'm on 3, with my Pixel 4 XL. WiFi calling is awful, the other person can't hear me and it's like I'm under water.
If I'm on speakerphone WiFi or not they say I cut out if I move even slightly away from the phone, like it's trying to cancel my voice out. I've already had one replacement from google for it and I've got the exact same problem. Extremely frustrating,
Att service.
The call quality on this phone is superior to any phone I've owned in the past.
The volte hd voice is amazingly clear. And so is the wifi calling
Sometimes calls just hang up randomly but usually only on the first try. Did custom softwares, factory resets but still. A little weird
