Had my Note for exactly one week when yesterday I woke up, turn on my Note and notice a big green line going down the left side of the screen. The rest of the screen is now very dim and barely readable even with the screen brightness cranked up to the max. Did battery pull, then factory reset with no success. Never dropped the phone, I haven't rooted the phone, the only thing I did to it was apply the OTA update to 2.36 the day I got it. Everything else is stock, so it seems to be a hardware issue.
Got the Note through a 3rd party reseller on Amazon.com. When I called them about it they said I had to go thru Samsung warranty and they will only exchange the item if it was broken the first time I tried to turn it on. So I guess I'm on my own.
Called Samsung warranty and was told that since it was an international phone it is not supported by Samsung USA. So it appears I am SOL.
ExpansysUSA on the other hand has a 15 day return policy for any issues and they will help you deal with warranty after the 15 day window is up.
Needless to say I'm depressed...Any suggestions for a course of action is appreciated.
Thanks everybody.
only thing i can think of is if you can still get a squaretrade warranty. I think you may have to wait 60 days before they'll accept a claim, but it may be a better option than having an expensive paper weight.

Ask the seller where he purchased the phone from, ship your Note to Samsung in the country of origin. If he bought it in HK, send it to samsung in HK.
They won't be able to tell you it's an international purchase, you are allowed to travel the world with your phone and keep your warranty.

I agree. I had a Polish version from hantec. It had about 3 dead pixels with a line going through them (green colour). Called up Samsung UK and they said I had to contact handtec.
IM sure if you call up the skewing branch where your note is from, you can always send it back to them to get a replacement if you have only had the phone for less than 28 days.

I'll ask them about it again today when their customer service lines open. The lady that I talked to yesterday coulldn't tell me where they got it from and said that I should ask Samsung International. Hopefully I get someone a little more capable on the line next time...
In the meantime I initiated a return authorization request thru Amazon yesterday to see if this will motivate the seller to be more cooperatve.
If that doesn't work I guess I can file for a claim next.
Wish me luck...
Wish you all the best.
I heard good things about handtec, but I'm buying a Squaretrade warrenty just incase. Their warranty's only covers up to $600 though. So if they have to replace your phone, they just cut you a check for $600....the warranty cost's $124, so your really only getting $476 back. You can buy displays on ebay already, but I'm not sure how hard they would be to install.
Update:
The Vendor insists I contact Samsung for warranty repair/replacement. Samsung Latin America in this case. Contacted Samsung Latin America and was told that Samsung products bought thru Amazon.com aren't covered.
I'm tired of getting the run around, I'm going to file a claim with Amazon and see if that works.
It is very unfortunate. If something happens to my Note then I am not going to be able to claim the warranty too as I got it delivered from outside the country. Overall this is negative PR for Samsung that they fuss to give International warranty.

Did you pay via Ppal or Credit Card ? If you did, contest the charge stating the item had issues from the beginning that the seller did not resolve. When VisaMC hits them with a chargeback, I will bet the 3rd party vendor will say, OK, send it back and we will replace it. If they purchase direct from Samsung, they can get it fixed. Did the items description explicitly say NO WARRANTY ?

From their seller page:
"All products sold by us carry manufacture warranty"
I paid with a credit card. I emailed them one last time telling them Samsung will not cover replacement/repair and asking that they replace my busted Note with a new one. If that doesn't work I'll file a claim with Amazon. I'd rather not intiate a chargeback...yet.
I think you get 45 days to contest a charger? IM sure it varries by the credit card company

Update
Got an email from Amazon saying that my claim is denied since the sellers page says that there are no returns on cell phones.
I submitted an appeal stating that the sellers page also says that all products sold by them are covered by manufacturers warranty. Even though Samsung USA and Samsung Latin America won't cover it.
If this doesn't work I'll call my CC company and see about getting a chargeback done.
In the meantime I think I'll order a new Note from the better sellers out there. What do you guys recommend? Expansys USA or Handtec?
Try going through Newegg. If it's bad within 30 days they will refund or replace. Otherwise Handtec is great, but if you need warranty ......
You shouldn't be getting/buying phone from on-line sellers such as on Amazon. It's not true that mobile phone (in general) has an international warranty.
You should really wait for an official release in your country.
Do you know the amazon seller name?
I am looking to buy from amazon and based on your experience now I am worried. Can you tell the name of the seller? I had contacted Global mobile amazon seller and was told for warranty purpose you need to ship it back to their office in Germany and they will take care of it.

Well he did say a big green line, due to the pentile display it should be like 1 subpixel in thickness not a "big green line" as per OP.

So, after a week of using my Nexus 7 the ghosting/image retention isn't getting any better and I've decided that I can't live with it.
My screen is also coming unglued on the left hand side like a lot of people's. I could probably live with this, but it's made me more determined to return it due to te ghosting. Has also made me think it makes sense to wait until it's been properly addressed by Asus/Google.
I'm therefore going to return it to Ebuyer and request a refund. Definitely want to buy another Nexus 7 eventually though as I love the device otherwise.
Has anyone already returned theirs to Ebuyer and, if so, how was the process? Did they argue with you?

Hi mate. Yeah I returned mine to ebuyer. I wrote about the same things in my rma. I haven't received my replacement yet but as of now they haven't argued and accepted it quite easily . Just waiting for some return details from them.

Ebuyer return
Trying to return mine at the moment (Light bleeding on left hand side) and it has been fun so far....
1 - Attempted to return as DOA, but the online form said this had expired even though I was well within the time frame
2 - Filled in the normal return form, and entered that I want a refund
3 - Got a response saying that I need to call a number to get approval to return
4 - Called the number, and spoke to someone who said. 'ok no problem, will get that arranged for you - will email the details to you'
5 - The email instructed me to call Asus and discuss the problem with them to get an approval number.
6 - I replied that my contract is with Ebuyer, not Asus, so am not required to call them - Now awaiting their response
I am a long term customer with Ebuyer, and have been very happy with them so far. This is my first return though, and am not liking how this is progressing. When I purchase something from an online store, I expect to be able to return via online methods, not needing to call someone. They are also out of order trying to get me to call Asus - that is not how the sale of goods act works
Will update when I get more info!

I stopped using Ebuyer for exactly that reason some years ago, never a complaint with their prices or speed of delivery but when it comes to returns they will almost always try to shift the responsibility onto the manufacturer and give you the run around unless you put your foot down.
Just submitted my RMA for ghosting and screen separation. I put it down as "fault under warranty", description as "other" from the drop-down boxes and requested a full refund. I received an email saying to ring their local-rate support line. Was on hold for no longer than 5-10 minutes. As soon as I explained the ghosting issue to the rep he authorised it immediately and I now have an email link to arrange a free collection.
I am impressed with the service so far, though I guess the proof will be when the refund hits my bank account. I still have nightmares about the words "Our engineer's tested it and can't replicate the fault" from the dark days of my local IT box-shifter 12-15yrs ago...
Will wait for reports that new devices are fault free before re-ordering.
I buy loads from Ebuyer from work, have returned several things and had no problems.
Ok, they ask questions - who wouldn't? a lot of faults are not faults, they are user problems. So apart from that, which I consider appropriate, I've been perfectly happy with them for years.
Jeff
So, Ebuyer collected my Nexus 7 free of charge last Friday. I included a printout in the box with some good photos of both ghosting and screen lift so that it was obvious why I was returning it.
I received a message today stating "Following extensive tests by our Returns staff, this item was found to be faulty. Therefore a refund will be issued once the RMA has been closed."
Ebuyer certainly get the thumbs up from me this time :good:
I'll no doubt take a ribbing for this, but I've replaced the Nexus 7 with a Blackberry Playbook. Not for everyone I know, but I use a Blackberry Curve extensively at work and it bridges to the Playbook allowing me to access my calendar, inbox and browser on the larger screen. Will be even better on business trips as I have unlimited international roaming. As a result I've found it far more useful throughout the day than the Nexus 7, even though the screen resolution isn't as good, a few apps are missing, and it's a little heavier. £149 for 32gig is also a bargain.
For the avoidance of doubt though, unless you use a Blackberry as your primary phone the Nexus 7 is the better buy and if I ever buy a 10 inch tablet for use around the house 'll seriously consider a Jelly Bean device.
OK has anyone had any experience on doing an exchange or return in the UK for a nexus 4.
I recieved mine today and the damn device is perfect in every way except the bezel had a big chunk of paint chipped off where the volume rocker is. I was gutted as the screen was pixel perfect the buttons were solid the back didn't creak. nothing.
So I thought I'll set up an exchange no problem Google are good this way. After all the guys over in the us get a shipping label send off the device and in the mean time a new one is winging its way to you. Thanks to ups.
So I spoke to Eric who said he would set up the RMA and I should send back the damaged device with the shipping label and RMA note in the email he would send.
Not so
I got the email and it had an RMA document but no shipping label.
I phoned to ask where I send it from then. Now Jeremy tells me they don't do shipping labels for the UK as its TNT that deal with things over here.
OK I thought I'll contact TNT
Nope they need a reference number for collection or before they can do anything.
So I phone back
In the mean time I check my Google account and notice the new device £279 pending. So I check my bank and find the £279 has been pre authorized on my bank account
Which wouldn't be so bad if they sent a shipping label etc as I could have it sent away tomorrow and with them next week. Well within the 21days return and they wouldnt charge me.
As it is I have no shipping label and no one can reassure me that one is or will be send and how I will receive it.
So I call up johnney at Google who tells me it should turn up but does not know how.
Well I can't have £279 pre auth out my account for a device that will ship to me sometime and £288 out my account for a device I have but is faulty so can't sell it and probably won't get a shipping label sent out therefore I'll end up with one good device which I will be charged for and another that's faulty and cannot return
That's if the exchange is OK when it comes
My god why don't they offer a door step exchange like Sony did with the ps3 etc through ups or city link
In the end I couldn't take the risk and had to cancel the exchange so that the pre auth will drop off my account and set up the RMA for the one I have to get a refund.
I know its not great but better than being charged again and ending up not being able to return the first.
From what I read over at the nexus 7 forum a lot of UK customers waited for about a month for refunds but some were 59 days or more as the shipping labels just didn't go out.
So I wanted to know if anyone had already went through this process in the UK and what the actual procedure was and how long it took to receive the shipping label etc. Did it get sent out or did you drop it off with TNT and give googles account number or what.
Any info would be great and I'm sure it would help other UK customers as I would have really liked some info.
Unfortunately we are not as fortunate as our US brothers and sisters to be able to deal with ups and simple returns.
Here's some pics of my lovely but flawed nexus

Anyone want to chip in with experiences as it would be really useful to find out what's going on in the UK since Google don't seem to know

I've just organised a replacement due to white spots on the screen and the buzzing earpiece. It took a while to get through, and I was ready to break something due to the pre recorded message about high volumes of calls on a constant loop (as in it literally repeats the second it finishes) but the guy I spoke to was extremely helpful, more so than any UK based CSR I've ever dealt with!
In terms of the procedure, he's emailing me with an RMA form and he said a prepaid postage label will come with my new device in order to send the defective one back. He also said a charge will appear on my card and once they receive the defective device they'd take the charge off.
Although my experience hasn't completed yet, I thought I'd share my experience so far.
01354 226184 that's the none 0800 number to call for UK based support by the way, for those who can't call 0800 numbers for free.
Yeah same as myself.
The issue I have with it all is they don't really know who arranges what in the UK. I was told its TNT that arrange the returns bag but TNT say its Google that have to initiate the return through TNT. Then latter sounds more sensible but Google cs don't know how to do this and presume its automatic.
Problem is you only have a limited time to get the return back to them.
If I could walk into TNT give googles TNT account number then pop the device in a bag with the RMA note I would be happy.
It would be sent off and tracked. Simply just have to wait on it being received and refunded.
What makes me uneasy is the potential for the returns bag to never turn up. You get billed for a second device and no way to return the original defective one.
I'll keep this going as there are lots of threads about returns in the US but nothing about how the process works in practice in the UK which leaves me wishing Google had a walking store or doorstep exchange service.
Also thanks for the non 0800 number

You know I remember reading somewhere in the agreement Google say that they reserve the rights to send out used/refurbished items as replacement. Maybe your nexus is one of those.
Just a suggestion: Do try to make sure you handle your RMA carefully. I recently did an RMA and the CSR sounds like a complete noob and in the email they sent me has a RMA agreement with ASUS and link on it.They're just getting real sloppy.

There is no way the RMA stock already has returned/refurbished devices in it. They have to go back through a process to be repaired, inspected, tested, and repackaged before they can be sent as RMA units and this process takes weeks or even months. Any RMA units that are sent out at this point in time will definitely be new units.
The RMA devices are new as they have as said before kept a stock of new ones aside for this purpose.
As of yet I have not had any returns envelope or shipping label etc.
I know j could use the nexus 4 just now until returned but I'm just so fed up with the whole process its left the device tainted with this experience. Its an awesome device and love the design I just can't bring myself to use it because of all this. So it will be returned as I got it if I ever get to return it

I looked at their site and it said the RMA document would be sent with my replacement, which would be despatched within a week of the 20th. Seriously, Google are a joke!
I'm trying to arrange a collection for my faulty Nexus, I have the TNT bag with the consignment letter, which has a senders account number registered to Google. The delivery address on the consignment letter is that of LG Electronics in Poland, TNT won't collect it as the delivery address that they have registered to the Account Number that I'm quoting is for Google in Belgium.
Did anyone else experience this? I'm tempted to blag it with TNT and just say that the delivery address is what they think it should be.
I dropped my 2013 Moto x and shattered the screen. I use the advanced repair option on the Motorola web site to try and have it repaired for $100. That's where they put a hold on your credit card and ship a "Like new" phone to you then you ship the broken one back to them when the new one arrives. If you don't ship the old one back they bill you for the new one.
I waited over two weeks to get the replacement from Motorola with an email from them that it was shipped 13 days ago. Today after they had me on hold for 45 minutes they came back and apologized to me that it wasn't really shipped and offered me a free upgrade to the 2014 model. I just got done designing my 16 gb pure edition with a bamboo back and it didn't cost me a dime. Not even charge for tax or delivery. Expected delivery January 13th.
Can't beat that for service!
Not too shabby. You're gonna love it, it's an improvement over the 2013 model in every way but the size. I still think the 2013 was the perfect size and wish they didn't make the 2014 as large as they did.
I have only had good experience with moto. The only thing that I dislike about them their billing is screwed up.

The support in the UK is shocking. I reported a problem with the wooden back coming off a few days after I got the phone and it's taken several weeks to get anywhere with the support. Cases either get closed as solved or ignored by Motorola. I finally called up and spoke to someone but they won't do an advanced shipment of a replacement so I either have to send it for repair or send it back. As I used the cyber Monday discount if I send it back I'll have to order a new one at full price.
I have had some decent interaction with their customer support and they have been very helpful. My only issue is that for whatever reason they will not let me pay $50 extra to make my replacement phone the 64GB version. I started the process for the 14 day return/exchange within the required period, got my code and then noticed they had the 64 available now so I tried to get that. They just refuse to do it and say it is not possible, which I find very strange. I have spoken to a few different people, all very nice, one said he thinks he can get me the code and I can pay the upgrade fee and the other said it is absolutely not possible.
Other than that they have given me some codes for buying accessories and have been helpful.
Is the 14 day exchange policy a US only thing? Or do you have to return the phone prior to receiving the replacement?

I am in the US, but I am not sure if it is only an US thing or not. You can exchange your phone one of two ways; advanced replacement sends you a new device but you put down a deposit, when you get the replacement device you have ten days to send in your old phone. The other way is you send in your old phone first and then get the replacement.

Motorola Support Monkey said:
Thank you for contacting Motorola.
We inform you that the advance repair procedure is not implemented in Europe, only in the US, and it's likely that he has heard about this procedure from American customers, as the XDA developers forum is American. Unfortunately, we cannot control the information provide in third party sites not managed by Motorola.
Motorola procedures in the US are not the same as in Europe, and due to this, in this case we can only offer you a replacement or credit, both following the same procedure: send the phone back to us using the DHL labels that we will provide, and when the phone is arrived to our service centre, this will trigger automatically a refund, or a new xCode for replacement, depending on what is the option that customer prefers.
As you contacted us during the 14 days period in case xxxxx-xxxxxx, the return for credit is possible, but you will need to return the phone to us first and the the system will trigger the resolution.
In case your choose the refund of the credit, in the meantime of course you can place another order.

So I guess I'll get a replacement, the first phone I sent back arrived back to them in Germany the next day so hopefully I should get the code to place the order again fairly quickly.
I dropped my Moto X 2014 just three weeks after it arrived and the display was cracked. Motorola really sent me a new one after they received the broken one - I had to pay nothing.
Best costumer support I ever experienced. I don't think you can expect this anywhere else.

I subscribed to this thread just to see how it goes. Good luck, OP! Let us know how it goes.
So my phone arrived at one of Oneplus' partner companies. As a result I opened another live chat to get an update on my RMA status. I got routed to Lois who was also quite nice and understanding. I asked for the status of my RMA and how long I would be waiting for my replacement. Lois informed me that the hole process could take up to 12 day after the parter company inspects the phone witch could also be up to 2 days. Which it's 14 days...... I think you all know were I'm going with this. So I asked to cancel my orders and send everything back for a full refund. Lois said they would only be able to do a parcel refund for the oterbox and extra dash cabal I ordered. So at this point I'm not happy and ask for my case to be escalated and that compensation be considered for my inconvenience.
So I got an email from OnePlus later last night. They have placed a new order for my Midnight Black 8/128. So if it ships today it should get to me for Friday. We will see....
Looks like the phone shipped out today got a tracking number emailed to me and the tracking number is saying it will be delivered tomorrow. Will let everyone know if I get the phone tammorow!
So I got the phone delivered today, send in the RMA later Friday night and iv got a new phone on the next Thursday. I'm quite happy to say the very least. We will see if this phone lasts longer as oneplus did send me a total new unit I looked at the IMEI's are in fact different.
Congrats OP!
