Android Authority wrote an article today about the Xperia Z5 launching in the U.S. without a fingerprint scanner.
http://www.androidauthority.com/no-fingerprint-sensor-for-us-xperia-z5-z5-compact-667816/
I personally think this was a very stupid decision from Sony as all of their competitors have fingerprint scanners and that this is another selling point that they cannot use. And also, Sony has never been good at marketing in the U.S.
What do you guys think?
Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
I have no idea about the reasoning behind this. Pretty dumb.
They are selling the phone for its camera and water proof capability so no a big problem if it doesn't have fingerprint sensor.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Then people will have a bad experience thinking that this phone is old since it don't have it. As in for those who are not that well verse in variation in models due to market.
I too agree that it's just bad idea to exclude it. Why exclude it. Just for U.S.market?

I think it's a bad idea, especially for the U.S. market.

Honestly, does anyone actually use their fingerprint scanner? I had mine enabled for about a week for the novelty then I disabled it and haven't even considered switching it back on.

I do. Even thought it's not accurate. But I don't think it's about the actual fingerprint scanner, it's about the marketing.

Fair enough. Thinking about it, wouldn't this inhibit the growth of Android pay? Doesn't that use the fingerprint scanner?
Have they given a specific reason as to why they have excluded it?

Not sure about Android Pay. Didn't even know that was a thing.
They haven't given us any reason yet.
A device not having a fingerprint scanner doesn't matter too much for me. However, all Sony's competitors have fingerprint scanners and all of them are priced 200-300USD less. Sony has messed up again.
The Galaxy S7 is just around the corner so that means prices will drop even more for the S6. If you ask me, it's very hard not to choose the S6 over the Z5 when you're missing features like these. I would damn well expect them to be in a 600USD device.
Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
Nobody will miss it, but then what was the reason for dropping it?
Hopefully to save costs and not because there is a larger issue with the existing models....
Also wondering what else is different?
Also, I think the pricing should match at least the lower prices on Expansys, where you can get the exact same phone for way less money and still have the fingerprint scanner....???
im the only one with no issues with the fingerprint scanner? only problem is when i have wet thumbs

I have and it still doesn't help. And I shouldn't have to do that.

Just recording a single finger at many different angles works fine for me, i.e. each read session records about 10 prints so just move and change finger angle for each scan.
Same here mine is fine
Very odd decision and a shame for Sony...
This way they will never sell in US
Seems a silly move by Sony android pay is up and running In the US is just another reason not to buy Sony. Sony seem to not see the US market as profitable region

See the Gs5 has a finger print scanner how long do you think it will be before apple tries to attack Samsung once again. See how Samsung put it right in the home button.
P.S i really hate crapple(apple)
They can't it's a different type of reader, sliding style reader vs the placing it on the button.

Apple wasn't the first with a fingerprint scanner, it was motorola. Most people don't know because the media brainwashes people with bias reviews towards apple. Notice how many Iphones and macs are on tv? :-/

True Motorola were but it never worked. Apple take things, design them well and they just work as advertised. Samsung have copied Apple like they always do with Gold S4, S5 and now FScanner (yes I know they had Gold phones in the past but never Galaxy rage or pushed in a modern high end device). None of that would have happened if the 5S wasn't available in gold and had a FScanner. It's not just Samsung, HTC are in the same boat. Cue the Samsung fanboy hate.
LG expo had it in the home button long before apple did.
Finger print scanner
It is a good idea to have one for security but they I don't think it will work very well. but we will see in due course.

Agreed! so far it seems to work well. Over at Toms Hardware they even demoed using their thumb one handed. My biggest gripe was that everyone was suggesting only the index finger vertically aligned would make it work. Im actually quite impressed now.
Well, this week or next the "Nexus 6" will be announced/put out on sale. That's my second option.
My first option will always be Project Ara. The problem is that it is expected in Q1 2015 but we really don't know what to expect and/or even if the release will be on time. So that's kind of betting my cards....
I hate touchscreen phones with a passion. People are ****ing morons for letting the industry go this way and we should have always forced no touchscreen, semitouchscreen (like the Desire Z) or full touchscreen. That plus knowing that the battery is nonremoveable....
I know I will hate typing on a "Nexus 6" but its something I guess to deal with.
What would you guys go for?
I wouldn't bet on a fully equipped fully functional Ara phone suitable as daily driver by Q1 next year. Especially not with hardware keys or something like that.
If I had the $$$, I'd totally get a new phone this year and sell it when I think it's time for Ara. After all, Ara is supposed to be cheap.

Personal preference. Faster typing, less errors, blind typing. I'd pay 1000 dollars for a device with a sliding hardware keyboard and galaxy s5/note 4 specs even if that means it's bulkier.

Because XDA isn't only about hacking your phone?
I've been using XDA for years, and while I hack some of phones, I don't root all of them (in fact my Z5 was rooted, it's not now) and I'll be buying the AT&T version since I'm not sure I want to mess with system and mess up Samsung pay.

Viper4android sucks IMO.
I only use TB when I forget to backup info before wiping/flashing, so not super important.
I don't use ad blockers, if a site/app uses ads with disregard to usability I stop using them, otherwise I pay if I can or live with ads, developers and content providers need to eat to.

I may be boring but at least I've helped the community in my S6 days, also in my days with the relay. Also I understand what I'm doing without guides, able to fix things when I mess up, and don't need to go around telling others their use case for their phones is stupid and beneath mine.
Good luck in life kid, I'm sure you'll figure things out someday

...nevermind
How is preaching going from your parents house? If a guy wants to know about something, why immediately judge and attack him. Are you insecure? Are you young and dumb? Old and dumb? Just dumb? Just from Canada? I'm sorry but from what I know xda is a site with a reputation for not having to feel excluded for asking a question. A site where you can get answers without the fear of assholes like yourself. Not everyone is technical and they, the majority, are the reason why we all have great product engineering. That majority keeps you able to hack, augment and change the latest tech all while many millions more don't. Do not judge people on here as you are just showing the world how small you are in mind.
Sorry. I was only joking around.

It's ok. Humility is a sign of maturity. This place is for all of us. BTW OP, I used to be att. They do that to delay shipping. I assure you sim cards aren't on back order. It's because they can use that to gold the shipment in their oms.
Since this is a huge violation of the term open source imo I wanted to post thks here as well since this topic section is still active

This, and the fact that it hasn't really helped in the past.
The real customer to Samsung is Verizon. Not us. We are just Verizon's users of which wealth is to be extracted from.

First rule of purchasing a phone: buy it for the features it has, not the ones it might someday get. Otherwise you will be disappointed.
You knew the bootloader was locked down tight when you bought the phone. There is no chance in hell it is going to get unlocked. Deal with it. If an unlocked bootloader is that important to you you should have bought a Nexus.

Droid Life just reported that the Verizon is removing the Device Maintenance and RAM management feature from the phone

Maybe we can get the apk unless root is required. I was really looking forward to this feature.
What does this mean in terms of usability? What actual features are removed? Can we still tailor the battery saving stuff?
I tried every work around I know of. It seems it's not just hidden, but in fact missing. Hope we can recover it from a different model...

Does anyone know if its working on the TMO model? I'll check out their forums. Has Samsung really initiated it out of the box? Their website is vague but mentions Note 7 although I read somewhere an update will include it.
