Hello All,
I received an OTA update last night, which I accepted and installed. The phone rebooted, and began installing the update. After a while, "Error" was displayed underneath the android alien.
I rebooted my phone, and received a message similar to 'There’s an internal problem with your device. Contact your manufacturer for details.'. It still prompted me to enter my password, like normal when I power on my phone, which I did. The screen then went black, and I have been unable to power it on since.
The phone was stock, not rooted, no custom bootloader/rom/anything.
I have tried every combination I can think of, power, power+vol down, power+vol up, power + vol up + vol down. Charger plugged in, charger unplugged. Nothing seems to work.
The phone was running perfectly with no issues before this OTA update. Is there any way I can get my phone working again without RMA'ing it?
Thanks
Tey getting into the stock recovery and wiping your cache partition.
If that doesnt help then you should repair your cache partition as it might have gotten corrupt.

I think your only option is to RMA the device, even if you could get into the bootloader you wouldn't be able to flash anything because you never unlocked it, plus you can't unlock it without enabling the OEM unlock setting in Developer Options.
Sent from my Nexus 6P
If you get a RMA be sure to unlock the bootloader so you at least have a means of potentially saving it if the issue occurs again.

sorry to bother you all. i bricked my device and it's only a few hours old. I rooted it using the io root method. that was painless.
anyway, it didn't brick then. i got a notification from verizon for the 4.4.2 update so I clicked download update it never installed and that's when the bricking started. Anytime I connect it to the computer it opens up like 40 disks and it says cannot be used unless it's formatted so I have to spend a while canceling those out. when I restart the phone it says the lg logo then the screen goes black . im stuck. i've been trying for hours. if i get the phone back i won't root it or do anything. ill deal with the bloatware, whatever. i've tried a lot of different things but to no avail. any help is appreciated. thank you for your time...and wont go into download mode....help please anyone....
i have no recovery installed....every time i try to cut the phone off it vibrates screen goes off and on showing the lg logo very quickly then goes black but remains on until battery drains
Im in the same boat

If you can't boot into stock recovery (vol down + power key) and can't get into download mode (this is where they detect root once FW update shows up and the bottom left corner says Bootloader: ROOTED) then you can rest assure as long as you are under warranty, send it in to LG directly.
Do not send it to Verizon as you may incur charges for replacement. There's insurance from Verizon, but the real "replace with no charge" warranty is sending it to LG directly. Make an account on their website, register your G2, and make a Repair request by online chat or phone.
I just got my T-mobile G2 back after 2 weeks with the same issues and while it took a while to get repaired, I didn't pay a penny and it works without T-Mobile ever knowing its different hardware (all they replace is the flash memory that is corrupted in the phone).
Only downside is that it came back with KitKat and unrooted which means I have to wait for a working root procedure for it unlike with JB (I'm not afraid to root it again since I know what messed it up before was custom recovery TWRP version 2.6.3.2 that doesn't support KitKat lol).

Not getting into download mode is odd especially for just accepting a OTA update. Remember since they accepted the OTA its gonna take a special way of getting into download mode as the phone will be constantly on in boot loop. not all of the time but most of the time when people say they cant get into bootloader they have to keep trying due to the phone has to be "Turned off" OR rebooted at the same time of holding down the key combo.

To get the phone to turn off, one has to reboot the phone (power key for 10 seconds) while holding volume up WITHOUT having the USB cable plugged in.
Recovery mode is a bit trickier by having to hold the power key for 10 seconds, then just as the phone reboots, hold PWR + VOL DWN and while holding VOL DWN, release PWR and press it again (gets to that factory reset screen where you press PWR 3 times).
Not trying to teach you this if you already know how, just stating it if the OP looks at this then he can try again with the above.
Also, Download mode is essentially the "bootloader" and it is locked meaning unless you have certified software (KDZ FW updater), you can't adb anything just in download mode unlike some LG phones that have emergency mode which is unlocked bootloader.

Yea I know the commands, The guide for going back to stock was created by me for the G2 haha, Hopefully the OP will see your post and try that
ive tried
ive tried factory reset "vol down & power"...its just goes black and stays the same
I'm having about the exact same problem. I rooted my phone a while back, I left it stock and just used some modules (xposed). When I noticed the update I of course was stupid enough to hit the update... My phone is doing the same as his. I can get to the factory reset screen but even if I go through there I get the same black screen (though backlit). I can't boot into download. I'm downloading the .tot needed for stock, but I'm not sure if that'll be a lot of good without download mode. I have everything on my phone backed up from when I rooted it (I'm missing a few pictures but nothing major.) Any and all help would be appreciated. I've got a bunch of precalc homework and Prom in a couple days so I'm willing to sacrifice sleep tonight. Thanks! (Made this account just for this, though I've used the site a bit before.)

It's cuz you're not doing it correctly.
Yes, you're supposed to depress "vol down & power" but once you see LG logo, let go of both buttons and then immediately hold down only the "power" button.
After a few secs, a white factory reset screen will appear. Ignore the warning and press power button. I know, its kinda scary at first, but then phone will load into recovery.
I can get to the factory data reset screen but when i choose yes it just gives me the secure boot error. I am able to put my phone into download mode by pressing up volume and power when plugging to pc, but cant get pc to recognize it. I am sure I am missing something.
i am also bricked. i cant get into download mode or recovery. i have twrp installed, cant get to that either. i have tried every button combination and all i get is a black screen and vibrations, no lg logo. need help.

Call LG verizon will void your warranty
Has anyone made any progress or did all just send back to LG?
I am in similar shape, can get to the white factory reset screen - which does nothing once I accept.
I can also get into download mode, but the phone isn't recognized.
Wanted to confirm before I try to send it back that I can't fix myself.
Thanks!
Also, did anyone who was able to get back to the hard reset screen have luck sending to LG? Or did it have to be completely bricked?
Im also bricked. And there is no recovery mode. download mode is usable. but when i in twrp before brick i deleted efs because i have a back up after that recovery had corrupted and driver in the rom memory to talk to pc had also deleted with efs(i think). I have an idea to fix but im not sure
If I can change rom from mainboard and replace it other rom from other lg g2? Will it solve my and our problem??????
thanks to reply.
My G2 suddenly just stopped working yesterday. When I try to power it on the phone either freezes shortly after the boot screen, gets to the homescreen then shuts off, or boots to an all blue screen. I can access TWRP but haven't been able to fix it with anything I've found. My pc isn't recognizing the phone so don't know if I can flash another rom. Also tried factory reset with no luck. Any help please this is driving me crazy!!!
The same thing just happened to me! Someone please help us! IS there a solution to this?

Ok, since there is little to no information out there I thought I would share how I created and fixed this problem.
I received a new phone under warranty because of a failing sim card reader. Naturally, the first thing I did once I received it was root it. Next, I thought I would be slick and use flashify to flash a custom recovery (TWRP). Little did I know, with the new version of Android, our phones have a locked bootloader. I freaked out when I saw some weird error messages about it and tried to power off the device in the middle of it booting. BIG MISTAKE. In hindsight, I am assuming that it was re-flashing the factory recovery when I powered it off.
It gave me a solid blue screen for two hours, unless I held the power button for 10 seconds, which would just repeat the process from black screen to solid blue screen repeatedly. I tried to reboot into recovery for 2 hours by holding volume down and power. 2 HOURS!
At that point, I realized that I may have some luck getting it into download mode by powering it off, then powering it on with volume up and power and plugging in a USB cable. VOILA! It booted up normally (somehow) and I got it running the OS.
After that, I made sure that I did a factory reset by reverting to stock using the LG Software Upgrade tool.
The moral of this story is, if you are going to try to install a custom recovery on 4.4.2, make sure you know what you're doing. It turns out an app called AutoRec did the trick for me.

I didn't get the blue screen but I kept getting the security error screen on my d802. To turn it off, I kept holding down the power button for about 10 seconds after the screen went blank. This caused the phone to remain powered off. After that, I was able to boot into download mode. Maybe this method will work for your phone.

Don't know of any other methods because holding down the power button got the phone to turn off and allow me to get into download mode. From download mode, I was able to restore a stock 5.01 ROM to my phone via LG Mobile Support Tools.
LG G2 Bluescreen then no boot after disconnecting battery
Found my LG G2 with a completely blue screen. It would not turn off. Took it apart and disconnected the battery. Reconnected the battery and there was only a blank black screen and the phone would not boot. Zilch. Even with pressing the power button with the volume down to boot into recovery.....still zilch.
I sucessfully got my phone to work again using a hair dryer trick on an LG G3, which I found here.
1. I took the back off the phone, disconnected the battery, and removed the SIM card.
2. I then used a hairdryer on high heat and blew the heat over the uncovered areas for 10 minutes.
3. I let the phone from hot to warm, reconnected the battery and put it all back together with the SIM card replaced.
4. I booted into recovery and restored a TWRP backup, and my LG G2 is working like a champ again.
So basically my phone was stock but rooted and modded slightly with volume boost, camera mod, and the multi window mod as well. Other than that its all stock and never flashed a Rom on it. The phone ran smooth about 90% of the time but there were little quirks here and there that kind of bugged me. For example, every once in a while the screen wouldnt wake up after being locked via button or double tap. Wifi wouldnt respond randomly unless I reset my phone. Things of that nature, but anyhow I decided maybe hard reseting my phone might clear up some of these issues. I got into TWRP from AutoRec, and checked off everything except internal storage. I believe they were Davlik, Cache, System and obviously it didnt work out for me. I feel like me checking off the system is what did it because it wasnt considered a basic swipe at that point. Anyhow I cant get to recovery, download mode or anything of that sort. Everytime I hold down the power button it just resets and brings me back to the LG logo and just sits there while the led lights keeps rotating colors. Is my phone done for?
edit: Oh yea one last thing, I remember when I went to reboot it I somehow ended up being asked if I wanted to install SuperSU and I said yes. And than at that point it went to restart my phone and got stuck.

You wiped system. That's your rom. Don't wipe system unless you plan on flashing a rom. You should still be able to get back to recovery. From phone powered off state ( hold power and volume up when lg logo is on). Hold power and volume down, when lg comes on, release both, then hold both again. You should now be at the factory reset screen. Press power three times (it's not going to factory reset). You should be in recovery. From here, restore your backup. If you don't have a backup, you just found out the reason why you should always have a backup. If you don't have a backup, you're going to need to install a rom via adb or otg (assuming your recovery is up to date). You can also tot or kdz back to stock (wipes sdcard though).

Alright.
So yesterday i was just cassualy using my phone, when suddenly my volume down button started to act weird.
It kept pushing itself and raise or lower the volume. Since i didnt update my phone in a while, i figured it might be a software issue.
So i installed the latest update, and suddenly my phone booted in safe mode. Tried to reboot, no luck. Now my volume down key is unresponsive... I opened the phone up and cleaned the ports, but still no luck...
Looks like the key is dead. Now i am rooted and have twrp installed.
What are my options here?
Can i install an android 9 rom, maybe they wont boot into safe mode, i'm not sure?
I do still have warranty, so i could try my luck with relocking the phone and sending it back, but i also already opened it to look at the volume keys.
Do you guys have any ideas on how to handle this?
I chose wrong option installing magisk and i got bricked phone. I know i am dumb. When I turn phone logo nothing appears and small information press any key to shutdown. I've tried enter by key combination, but as it says it shutdowns. Cmd/Terminal my phone is not being recognized. Is there any option to restore phone?
I'm on same boat after try installing custom rom this happened is well don't know how to fix this without fastboot mode .
Maybe keep phone like this turned on until its die I don't know man would be nice if anyone able to fix that.
When the phone is off, keep pressing volume down and the power button till you are in the bootloader. With installing magisk you wont brick your bootloader normally.
Had the same issue

It's not a solution, keys are binded to turn off
So when the phone is completely off, you press the power and volume down. What happens then?

DId you try to hold the keys for a long time? This is what did the trick for me on my last phone (Oneplus 8 Pro)
If you holding any buttom when it's boots up it's just turns off any combination don't work. Pc don't see phone.

Then tried manualy it gave error 20 message, tried with sideload it gave me unexcepted update file size message, nothing worked. Then, I'm switched slot from A to B. But after that powering up the phone, just nothing logo showed and the top left corner text say: key to shutdown.... Could you please tell me what message you received and the cost of the repair? I am thinking of sending mine in for repair and would like the information.
I'm wrote to them, my phone can't boot, can't connect to the pc because doesn't recognize it and wall charger doesn't works to. Boot stops at nothing logo and there's a text at top left cormer " key to shutdown ". I'm don't wrote anything about root. First letter they said make a factory reset, then I'm wrote back I can't do that and then I'm sent a picture about the problem. After it next letter, who saw the picture thinks it's maybe a technical error and if I'm accept it, send the phone to service center and they check it out. I hope they could repair it and not change it, because I haven't got any green tint issue, or any dust under back of the phone's glass... About the repair cost, if the problem can't resolve they send me a new phone. If I made a problem, then I must pay the phone shippings cost to them and back to me and the service center call or write me about the repair costs i want it or not.
Hope someone will find soliution for this or it's hardware problem.
