help with custom s4 i9505 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi i need help to get my s4 i9505 back to stock i got it the other day thinking it was unlocked but it is not I'm willing to pay for the unlock code but it does not even ask for it it just says not registered on network it was originally a three phone i believe as a 3 icon comes up on the home screen when i reset it. i have tried the set network and all that (no effect) then i tried the download mode and discovered it says custom platform and Knox 0x0 which Odin do i use and which stock tar md5 etc? also when/if it can still be unlocked by code can it then be unbranded any help would be banging
hope this is posted in the right place.
thanks max.

You can get stock firmware from sammobile.com.
I always use Odin 3.07 on a win7 x64 machine to flash anything via Odin.

If the phone was carrier locked then you have to flash the carriee firmware. In this case that would be three.

till wont unlock via code

ok i have flashed stock three firmware but it does not ask for unlock code just says network unavailable?

Try selecting the network manually.

solved it's ok
thanks for the help it's done working unlocked sorted i flashed the o2 stock ware and it asked for code woo hoo at last. also its de-branded now most excellent thanks again.

why three
wonder why it had a three stock firmware if it was an o2 phone very strange?

Perhaps the previous owner did that. New phones don't come with the wrong firmware.

How I unlocked my phone/flashed ROM

I got the phone last week, network lock on, as I got it on T-Mobile, hooked it up to my pc, with the latest Kies, I had 2.3.3 and got a notification for an official update. It got stuck at 3% and was bricked afterwards (phone to pc connection broken image).
Anyways got it into download mode, flashed official firmware from sammobile forum(samfirmware is down) I9001XXKF8 with XEN SCS and AriesVE.ops Odin 4.43
It got stuck after 7/12 ext4 smth..
Then, decided to try 2.3.5 firmware I9001XXKPJ, as it's a Provider firmware, mind you everywhere I read that you shouldn't flash a network locked phone(exception is a provider firmware), but I did anyways , finished in 6mins.
Phone works great, now I have 2.3.5 with what I think is a huge rom with XX languages, including Macedonian(Balkan countries)
I don't have the slightest idea how I got it unlocked.. somewhere I read the network lock is in the rom in i9001, so you can try this. A local phone shop asked for 30eur, so I'm spending that money on booze tonight
I'll add this link to a post as well as I banged my head around quite a lot, before figuring it out/ how to recovery mode http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17395735&postcount=19 thanks Riversource
can you please add some details?I did a flash with xxkpj but no luck my phone still locked. thanks...

as far as I know flashing a rom (after flashing any kind of them from samobile and xda) does not remove the sim lock. there should be a different method rather than flashing or buying the code
After reading a lot of posts on i9001 I read there are two kinds of network locks, and I guess I was lucky enough to only have had the ROM based lock.
try different provider firmwares/non provider firmwares.. (although non provider firmwares are not suggested anywhere for locked phones, I haven't encountered anyone with bricked phones doing this)
Check your imei.
If it is 000000... ore not the same like the one under your batterie then your imei file got corrupted.

[Q] Debranding NOTE 4 on 3 Network (UK)

Hey People
Got my Note 4 on friday and I love it ..
The only thing I do not like about the phone is the 3 (UK) symbol that comes up when you power up the phone so I would like to unbrand the phone
Question is does three phones come unlocked ? and if they dont do I really need to unlock it before I unbrand it.
What website will supply a good untouched firmware ??
thanks in advance
Ant
If your phone has network branding then chances are its also locked to that network, three may be able to provide unlock code for free or a fee, you can check if your phone is locked by putting another network sim in your phone, if the phone asks for a code on boot then its locked, if your phone just loads as normal and finds the network then you know its unlocked.
Go to sam mobile website who have all the firmwares you need.....
Link for UK BTU below

Does it trip the knox warranty flag when flashing original Samsung ROM via ODIN in order to get rid of the provider modified ROM?

hi mate
I used odin 3.09 and installed the original samsung firmware
when i go into that boot mode it says
knox warranty void 0x0
so to my understanding this does not void my warrenty ?
Yep, you are good to go i guess. Thanks!
Flashing a stock firmware will not trip knox in any way, only rooting or custom firmwares would trip knox
All three phones are sent unlocked
Does this mean the OPs phone will automatically get 'vanilla' note 4/android updates or does the phone the phone still think it's a Three specific model?

If the phone has been debranded correctly it will think it's a ''vanilla' note 4" (well actually if you've debranded then your phone is a 'vanilla' note 4)
Flash stock btu
factory reset required to change the csc (carrier sales code) to generic uk one (BTU)
you should then get ota updates for "vanilla note 4"
This is good to see, I should get my three phone on friday.
Looking on the three my account page theres an option to "unlock" your phone. Obviously I don't have the phone yet so I cannot try it.
Still nice to know I can just flash the stock firmware.
I'm pretty sure 3 UK brags that it no longer locks there handsets to their network.
Thankyou
i was annoyed when i saw this on my 3 branded note four, after doing this reflash
status is still official and knox is 0x0.
I thought three had stopped branding thier phones as the last two i had wasnt.
The only thing now is i wish i could remove evernote, dont use it , dont want it, but also unable to disable it!!!.
Hi,
I'm a bit confused here, I've flashed the BTU firmware. I typed in *#272*IMEI# and nothing happens. I typed in *#1234# and it says my CSC is BTU. Is that it, do I need to do anything else? Someone mentioned having to factory reset but if my CSC is showing as the BTU do I need to?
I tried factory reset but when I boot into manual mode with volume key up+home+power it states:
Appling multi-csc
applied the csc-code:H3G
successfully applied multi-csc
So isn't the CSC still on Three UK instead of vanilla?
Despite the above I'm getting software updates now so.... meh?
Can you post some link to the unbranded rom please
thank you
I used the one the guy on the first page linked

How exactly are you guys doing this? Any video tutorials? Im really close to returning the phone for an iPhone if i can't get rid of the Carrier modifications.
Just open the firmware link on the first page and follow the instructions. Then factory reset your phone. I held down vol up+home+power for download mode and vol down+home+power for boot menu. I used the boot menu to factory reset making sure I wiped all the caches.

No need to factory reset. I downloaded the firmware from from your helpful post, and flashed my Vodafone branded Note 4, once it rebooted job was done. No vodafone crapware and all apps etc intact.
Tecio
For instructions just google odin flashing guide, there's no shortage of tutorials
Yes that was also the case for me. But for some reason I couldn't get any software updates. After factory resetting I got a software update...

[Q] unlocking help please

Hi, I have been trying to get my s4 i9505 networked unlock. It's currently on EE. I bought it from someone who has gone abroad so can't ask them to get ee to do it. I have tried 3 online unlocking sites, the last was recommended on here but non of them can do it. I have tried to install several firmwares but hoping that would remove the ee lock But they all seem to be ee firmware. Is there a firmware that you can tell me about which will do what I want. Or is there a way I can conect to my computer and do a hardware unlock. Hope someone can help as getting desperate now.
A friend of mine has a insurance supplied s4 i9505 Which is unlocked. Is there a way we can copy the firmware on his and install on my or completely clone the phone . ?
Installing firmware will not remove a carrier unlock. Downgrading firmware from Android 4.4.2 to Android 4.2 may work if attempting to use the free unlocking methods on the forums. Naturally, using those methods have risks, up to and including totally bricking the phone. The carrier lock mechanism is part of the modem firmware as RegionLock Away modifies the modem when it functions. Hardware unlocking probably can be done, but I couldn't tell you how it's done. I also can't tell you if copying your friend's modem will help your cause. I CAN tell you that completely cloning his phone is completely illegal and you could render both his and your phones completely useless by trying it.

Thank you for the reply, can I install a modem . I think I have read that you can't down grade the firmware ? If this is wrong. Where can I find the 4.2 firmware . Thanks
You can try, but I don't believe it will help any. While I said that the carrier lock is part of the modem firmware, it's not as simple as installing new modem firmware. The modem firmware that people commonly install really only controls the radios, while the carrier lock is in a different part. That part doesn't usually get touched by a new firmware install. In my experience, the carrier lock reared its ugly head when I destabilized the NV memory of my S4, which caused a reset to the golden backup in the phone.
I also had a SIM tray issue which popped up at the same time, and only by rolling back the firmware to 4.2.2 was I able to get to a stage to unlock the phone, using RegionLock Away. It is possible to roll back the firmware itself, but you cannot roll back the bootloader. Using old firmware with a new bootloader results in a "Kernel is not SEAndroid Enforcing" complaint upon boot.
To cut this down to basics, you can install a 4.2.2 modem and attempt one of the unlock methods available, as long as you are fully aware of the risks involved. If you choose this route you can download a modem from the appropriate thread on XDA and install it through Odin. You'll need to do a search to find it, but it shouldn't be too difficult. Full ROMs are available from www.sammobile.com or www.samsung-updates.com.

Problem with my G935A

Hi, I got a S7 Edge SM-G935A from AT&T at the end of December.
That same night I tried to root my phone(i got a bootloop), and I didn't know the bootloader was locked.
So I re-flashed a SM-G935U rom, but I would like to go back to the basic one in order to get a new start(SM-G935A), without root and nothing.
Knowing that I have a problem connecting to the wifi, maybe because of the rom that doesn't match.
And also i dont have samsung updates, i'd like to have the latest one im currently on 7.0.
If someone could help me to get my phone with original firmware, I'd be grateful.
Ok, first off, you can run any US/Qualcomm variant software on your device. Unless you just have a hankering for AT&T firmware, the U firmware will work just fine. Either way, find a full copy of either A or U firmware and ODIN it down, and you will essentially factory reset your device in the process.
There are links to both in this forum. I personally prefer U because it is faster and less bogged down with carrier crap, but if you are an AT&T customer, there are decent enough reasons to stick with A.
NOTE: you may need to use Prince Comsy's ODIN tool if you get a mismatch error. Unfortunately, there is no universal ODIN tool, but as a general rule, if you are CHANGING variants you need Prince's. If you are writing over the same version, you need the official.

Then this is easy. Go download the U firmware and use Prince's ODIN to convert it to a G935U. If you aren't on an AT&T network there is zero reason to keep your device on A firmware, starting with the fact that you will never get updates. (AT&T firmware will only update if you have an AT&T SIM installed.)

Only add-on is to perform this from a Windows 7 pc and not 10. Prince kept crashing on 10 and worked fine on 7.

Tab 5se Stock firmware
So I bought a 3rd 5se from a third party, all I checked for was for FRP lock, well it wasn't locked, but when I got it home and rebooted, it says is has a unlocked bootloader. So I hard factory reset it and now it states that only stock firmware can be installed in boot and won't go any further.
So I'm guessing I need to use ODIN to flash a factory ROM but I'm not sure which one as I can't seem to find a USA one on Sammoble, I do see a Canada one though.
Which version of ODIN should I use (WIN 10)
Which ROM, I'm in the USA, WIFI ONLY SM-T720, country code ?
Any other tips, as I haven't flashed anything in almost a decade probably.
Need to get this back to all stock, help
You want the XAR country code version which is the US rom. For Odin, use the newest version for our tablet. Good luck.

I use Frija instead of Sammobile to get the latest stock. Just use SM-T720 as the model and XAR as the CSC. If you search for how to unlock the bootloader, you can use the same proceedure to relock it. It should perform a factory reset as part of the process and you might not need to reflash a ROM.
Not sure..
Since the device won't turn off, restart nor go into download mode
Aqua blue sorta cyan screen. Top in red (like a terminal response) says," Only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed (vbmeta)"
Then on main screen in center;
Security Error: This phone has been flashed with unauthorized software & is locked. Call your mobile operator for additional support

The only time a ran into a situation where I couldn't turn off that tablet, I just had to put it aside for a day or so till the battery ran down. Then use the method of holding both vol up and down, and NOT power, and then plugging in the cable from the PC. Must be from PC and not charger.

I ran into this recently when I went back to stock to get the fingerprint for Magisk Module and then went back to Lineage. You just need to Odin the factory firmware. The tablet will turn off, I think the key combination to force it off is power and volume down? Its been a few weeks, but I was able to get back into download mode. I found other threads for samsung phones that had this same issue and basically used them as rough guides.
As mentioned you just need to use XAR ROMs, your box should say XAR. I believe both Canada and Cellular South ROMs will come up as XAR roms IIRC?
Bruh. I had the same issue and you will not be able to flash your way around and FRP lock. I found a guy on eBay to remove the FRP lock and NOT through flashing. For $10 is was done in 10 minutes. I get if you want to figure it out. I'm a flasher and love to figure this **** out too but with a recent update Samsung blocks this. Trust me. Spend $10 and it's done. Also many people say they can do this on eBay. I only recommend this guy: https://www.ebay.com/itm/273424666857. Just select a new auction of his and message him.

He said he checked to make sure this was not the FRP lock. Assuming this is the same message I got which says only official binaries can be flashed, please take this to a service center and it there maybe a cost involved (obviously I'm paraphrasing), you can fix it with Odin. I was on the latest firmware as well, as I updated fully to get the fingerprint for the MagiskHide module. This sounds like a different issue, to me.
I mean if that works it's $10 well spent I guess.
Oh my apologies as I misread his post. I just saw "FRP" and chimed in. Hope he gets it sorted out.

Almost !
Well, I finally reflashed the device with factory stuff, it's working fine now, no locks, except now it tells me the bootloader is unlocked on boot. I flashed it with Odin, no options, just loaded the 4 files and done.
How do I get this to STOCK, out of the box status. Steps ?
