Does the Nexus 6P have a weak WiFi signal? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all. I'm experiencing a problem with my WiFi connection. I have my router placed in the living room and in the bedroom I hardly have any WiFi connection at all.
All the time the phone will disconnect from WiFi and go to 4G. My previous phone, Sony Xperia Z, had no problems at all with keeping a strong WiFi connection and my wife have a Galaxy S4 (I9500) and she has no issues with WiFi in the bedroom either.
I was wondering if anyone had noticed that the Nexus 6P have a weaker WiFi connection than their previous phones.
Thanks,

I haven't had any issues with wifi on my 6P. Even when I was on the stock OS I was able to get a good signal anywhere in the house, even at the far end of the yard. Is your router/access point transmitting at full power? I have an Airport Extreme and have it set to full strength. When I tried it at 50% (the next step down in the options), I did lose a lot of range. So since I've had it at 100% it's been great....

I've not had any problems. My office WiFi easily transmits more than 75 ft. through five walls and one floor to my 6P.

The 6P has had great WiFi performance in my experience.

So far no. Full bar for me. Weird..
This is why I hate when new devices get released.
Using the phone outside my 2 story townhouse(router upstairs) with 3bars. Vibrant and hd2 was either 0-1 bars.
Yes, I'm finding it really weak as well, in fact it just dropped back to 3G as I typed this.
I noticed it shows as weak, yea....
Mine seems to have a weaker signal strength on my top floor compared with my desire. Also when running speed tests it struggles to hit 3Mbps downstream on a 38Mbps BT infinity line.

Stronger signal for me .
jje
definitely a weaker signal for me compared to my desire.
i'm getting 2 bars out of 4 despite being in the very next room to my router. it's 4 bars on my desire.
:-(
Might I suggest that the difference may be in the amount of interference your Wifi is experiencing? Try switching to a different "channel" on the router or even from 2.4 to 5GHz band (not sure if the phone supports this but worth a shot). I used to have a problem with this when i first got my SGS1 and when i swapped my wifi router to a new channel the problem disappeared.
Good luck
huh, to me the signal is the same if not better than the hd2.
the same here european version! 5 meters away it shows 1 bar only.
I'm currently 20m away from my router and behind a couple of walls and I get 2/4 bars on the Wifi and on the Speedtest app I get
Ping: 25ms
Download: 5946kbps
Upload: 3882kbps
In my opinion that qualifies as decent signal strength and quite a bit better than what I got with my N1.
edit:
And just to clarify, if I'm in the same room as the router I get full bars on Wifi.
I'm having no problems with WiFi. I get full signal in my living room (the same room as the router), and in my kitchen (which is about 10m away and has 2 stud partition walls and one masonry wall between it and my living room) I get 2 bars. So its as good as I'd expect, however I haven't tried checking my connection just outside my flat, but I live in an old school house with 2ft external walls, so I'm guessing I wont get much of a signal.
My laptops' WiFi behaves the very same. If your WiFi is worse than your previous phone....something wrong!
Wifi is fine on mine. I'm 2 floors away from the router and can get a two bar signal no problem.
Low also although it seems to perform ok.

for me
2.4ghz band is stronger than my sgs 1
and 5ghz band is weaker than my sgs 2
I noticed on my s1, froyo showed more strength bars than when I installed gingerbread. Maybe it is just a display problem caused by gingerbread?
Wifi signal is more stable than in sgs1 or my HTC desire.

I get slightly higher signal strength with the SGS2 than I do with my Nexus One (dBm as viewed in Wifi Analyzer).
However, I do have definite throughput issues -- can't get over 2mbps downstream on my SGS2 vs 6-8mbps downstream on my Nexus One at home. However, on my work network it's a different matter - the SGS2 is slightly faster than the N1. To me this suggests that either there is a compatibility issue between the SGS2 and certain APs, or the SGS2 is more prone to interference than the N1...
Hi, you could try wifi analyzer app, it will show you the strongest signal on channels.

[XOOM 2] Xoom 2 wifi strength/performance ?

I'm considering the Xoom 2 3g version (i prefer it over Samsung Galaxy Tab).
As i will use it for traveling one very important thing for me is Wifi strength as usually hotels tend to have not-so-strong wifi signals.
Anyone can give me any feedback on how does Wifi perform on your Xoom2 compared to your laptops, phones, etc. ?
Thanks!
Performs very well, no complaints here at all! Sometimes it has trouble connecting automatically when the tablet comes out of sleep, but a simple toggle of the wifi on/ off brings it right back!

Expect signal strength closer to a phone than a laptop. Some hotels with a very weak signal have been borderline for me, though so far I have always between able to get a connection.
Sent from my Android phone
I haven't any problems here , very good wifi and great gps . Probably wifi is not as good as a wifi of a good laptop but better than a phone's wifi for sure .
Have just done a fairly unscientific test of signal strength in my hotel room this evening -- I get a pretty poor wireless signal in this room, so it should be considered a basic look at behaviour when quite a way from the access point:
Dell Latitude E6510: -65 dBm
Samsung Galaxy S2: -86 dBm
Motorola Xoom 2 ME: -83 dBm
All measurements were taken with the devices a few inches from one another, and are averaged out over a few measurements. On the Android devices, the values were measured using Wifi Analyzer; on the notebook I used the iwconfig command (Linux).
As I said, not very scientific, but should give a rough idea of what to expect. Unfortunately I don't have any other tablets here against which to compare.

Signal strength is the least of your concerns when using hotel wifi. You are going to be lucky to get 56k down at 90% of any hotel you stay at.
4g wifi tether through your phone, even Sprint 3g will be faster every time. That's coming from a road warrior.

Nexus 4 Has Weak WiFi Range ??

I'm guessing not since no one has reported it...
Also, wait more than 15 mins before you bump your thread next time

My n4's WiFi range is much much better than my s3 and gnex. Similar to my 4s.

I felt the Wifi range was a bit less too, than my GS2. Only at times, however.
just got my N4 and when connecting to my Galaxy nexus hotspot it gets very poor speeds even though the GN will get very good speeds. I connected my N7 to the same hotspot and get good speeds.
for example
N4 connected to GN gets an average of about 1-3mbps
GN will get 9+ easily
N7 connected to GN gets 5+ easily.
My N4 won't even connect to a wireless network at my girlfriends that is configured exactly the same way my home one is with the same SSID and password. Connects fine at my house but not my gfs. all my other devices connnect to both just fine. N4 won't even detect the network at my GFs

My property is 100 feet by 180 feet and the router is pretty much smack dap in the middle of it in my house and I can connect to my wifi outside anywhere on my property without a problem. Might be you have a weak router if your having problems. Connecting to TMobiles network is another thing.
wifi weak
I am facing similar issues with wifi on Nexus 4.
I am having only 1/5 bars in comparison to my old Nokia N9 which shows 4/5. Both on 5 Ghz, I tried using different router , still Nexus 4 seems weaker to me.
Mine is weaker than any past device. My N10 doesn't fair much better. Solved it with a wireless repeater.

Yeah that didn't work for me. This happened on fresh stock out of box android and even after I flashed another ROM. It connects to all other wireless just fine though. Probably an issue with that router but that's quite odd if that is the case. I mean, it doesn't even SEE the network at all.
Probably your area is swamped with other networks. I've noticed where I am there are like 50 networks, It can never quite find my router in all the mess...
At my house though I can only see 2-3 networks and it works perfectly. This is probably software related.
I'm having a similar but different issue with my wifi.
No only was my wifi signal pretty weak, it seems that my phone's wifi is no longer working. I noticed that the wifi on my device would not work at all (it won't even turn on) whenever I restarted my nexus 4 and got a "Process System isn't responding" message. The only times in which my wifi was working, was when I didn't get that message. The bad part now is, I seem to be getting that message on all my reboots.
I've tried wiping cache, dalvik cache, fixing permissions, and factory resets.
Any advice?
I have a rooted stock, with clockworkmod recovery. (rooted using efrant's method here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312)

Wifi on Oneplus 2 works extremely slow while it works flawlessly in S3

Hi,
I just got my Oneplus 2 yesterday. But I noticed a strange issue.
I live in a hostel where login based public wifi is provided. I have a samsung S3 which connects to the wifi even at peak hours of traffic and gives full speed at all times. But when I connect to the same wifi through my oneplus2, it barely gives any speed, even googling is not possible.
Both the devices are able to connect to the wifi with atleast 3 out of 5 bars. I don't understand why when S3 gives proper speed, at the same time oneplus2's wifi fail to perform which is relatively new. Oneplus2's wifi should atleast perform similar to S3, if not better.
BTW I am using Cyanogenmod 10.2 in S3. I've not rooted or done any configuration changes on Oneplus2 yet.
Please suggest if there is anything that I can do to improve the wifi performance on Oneplus2.
Thanks in advance!!
I'm having a somewhat similar issue. I just got my oneplus 2 today and I connected it up to a friend's beamforming router running on 5ghz ac. While an LG g3, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Samsung Galaxy s4, Motorola nexus 6 all had a connectivity speed of 400-550Mbps, the oneplus 2 on the same network could only achieve a connectivity speed of 96Mbps. I'm not quite sure what is limiting it's connection. Has anyone experienced something similar?
Just got mine today and same issue. If I check as soon as it connects before IP assignment, it registers 433Mbps but as soon as IP assignment happens and traffic starts up on wifi it drops to 96Mbps. Even worse, it only achieves 10Mbps throughput while my OPO gets easily over 100Mbps throughput. Any ideas? Still stock.
I've seen the same thing here, 10mbps on speedtest with 5 GHZ wifi. Interesting thing is if I switch to 2.4GHz I can eek out 80ish, my OPO on CM 12.1 can easily max out my 150mbit connection, considering compiling CM for the OP2 and testing throughput with that to see if it's an oxygen bug (I think it is).
Same problem here. Connected to the same wifi network with my OPO, OP2, and S6 edge. Connection speed to router was 135 mbps, 86 mbps, and 400 mbps respectively. Speed test results for download were 115 mbps ,32 mbps, 172 mbps respectively. OP2 speeds are just lousy and there are no settings I can see to remove wifi optimization that usually causes issues. Tested using the same app, to the same server, all in the same room and distance from the router. I hope this isn't a result of skimping on the hardware and is software related.
I was having a similar problem on my wifi while downloading apps on my new OP2. Changed the wifi setting from DHCP to Static on my phone and im getting full speeds now. Give it a try
i dont having much knowladge of wifi connection but reception of wifi is poor on one plus two . same wifi connection is also connected with
galaxy s4 , yu yureka ,and even samsung galaxy ace dous 1st gen device have better reception than this.. if i cover place near 3.5mm jack wifi bars drops
i dont know what is going on... phone is heating even if i play clash of clan. battery capacity is enough but i dont know why battery backup is so poor.
i was happy when i ordered this phone and wait for invite for 2months now my all hapines turns into sadness after observing these types of things...
now i m thinking that i return back this phone to amazon and clam my full payment.
IĀ“ve experienced something similair, just the other way around: as soon as the OPT gets connected to my WiFi, all other devicesĀ“ connection slows down.
My one plus one is fine on 5ghz band and same with nvidia shield tab and nexus 7 but op2 sucks ass at 3mbps but as soon as I switch to 2.4ghz I can get 20mbps with lower latency

I've seen slower Wifi performance and more connectivity problems with the latest OOs version. I never saw this with previous versions of the Oxygen OS.
I can live with it for now, but I'm hoping it gets fixed in the next update.
I had the same Issue.
Clean flashing the Rom, and then flashing the kernel again made it better for me, but still not good.
In the end, giving my phone priority in the Router/modem fixed the Issue completely for me.
If u have access to your Routers interface you should try that

WiFi strength, range, and throughput

Rate this thread to express how you think the Sony Xperia 1 II's Wifi performs. A higher rating indicates that it has excellent range, throughput, and signal strength. Like when you're taking a dump in the bedroom upstairs, do your videos have to buffer or do they come through without interruption?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Signal is pretty bad. I have Google WiFi at home and in my bedroom the Xperia can barely connect and often drops. My old OnePlus 5t did not have this problem. I'm very surprised an all glass phone has that much worse WiFi than a 3 year old metal unibody design...
I notice the WiFi isn't great on the phone. I often have to switch to mobile data. My older phones do not have this problem.
Same, my s9+ was all glass and had better wifi signal. I'm wondering if it can be fixed with a software update as when I first got the phone it wasn't to bad.
My Xperia 1 would drop the wifi connection at home too often, I've had the Xperia 1 11 for a week now and it is better but still drops it, every couple of days for a few seconds, so far anyway. Never have this issue at home with my iPhone 11.
Gotta say I've had no issues with wifi strength, range or throughput. I'm on O2 here in the UK.
I am having problems with a BT Smart Hub. It doesnt seem to be a problem with the signal strength for me, rather it stalls all the time and data isn't received every so often. Played with switching between 802.11ac, 802.11n and 802.11g but makes little difference.
I started a thread on the Sony forums on this here:
https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/xperia-1/xperia-1-ii-unreliable-wifi/td-p/3684998
I have a Vodafone router. WiFi is fine, it's actually stronger on 5ghz than my Asus Rog 2 was.

What Wi-Fi router are you using?
Wifi strength is bad on mine. Drops out in several rooms of the house, where non of my older phones had the same problem
I have a WiFi 6 (AX) router and the phone connects at almost full speed across 10meters between 3 rooms, something you cant get with AC WiFi for sure.
So I rate 10/10
Dear friends, I have same problem. My XQ-AT52, imported from HK, has very slow wifi connection.
Only with 5Ghz Wifi it's ok.
2.4 gHz bad range.

Rubbish wifi strength here and for some reason it refuses to see my office wifi despite it working great with the rest of the house.
