[Q] How to take macro pics - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 General

Hi everyone.
Can someone tell me how to take macro photos with my Sprint Note4??
I just cant figure it out.
Extreme close up. It seems to NOT focus at less that 3 or 4 inches..
I always have to 'back ou't more than what I want to.
Any and all suggestions are really appreciated.
Thanks alot

I've wanted to know this also, seems like the stock camera is not capable of macro pictures.

Hold your finger down on the screen instead of tapping to focus. Hope this helps

It will do it for a sec..... when you long press the screen... focus on it.... just for a sec.... then blurr out.. and remain blurred when you release and snap the shutter......
thanks anyways......
BUT!!.. I did find a work around...... get as close as you can while it focuses sharp.. about 3-4 inches... just before the blur.....then while it's still sharp..... zoom in.... and snap the shutter....
So.... get close as you can while the focus works... hold still then zoom in for a macro.....
I hope this helps others.. The only thing I found so far.
Thankks

Poor Camera

hey, i just got a att 8525 and i'm wondering if there is a fix or what are the settings you guys use to get the most out of this camera.
thank you.
I don't really use the camera that much. It's OK in a pinch, where I might just need a quick snapshot of something that doesn't require much detail, sharpness, or image quality.
Considering the tiny nobrand lens, the always-loose macro switch, the unusable (except as a flashlight, thank you VJay) LED Flash, and the tiny 2MP CCD sensor ... I don't thinnk you're going to be in competition with Ansel Adams anytime soon.
When I need to do serious photography, I have a dSLR for that.
No fix or settings that I can think of are going to make the camera anything more than it is, a cellphone camera (and note that the word CELLPHONE comes first).

theres gotta be something that can be done to imporve it....
anybody?

Wow, just how BAD are your pictures coming out? Are you trying to shoot in daylight or is the lighting very dim? Are you sure you're setting the camera up to produce 2MP shots? Or are you stuck on burst mode or something?
I mean, I don't USE the camera for much, but I feel I'm getting what it's capable of doing? Attached are a couple of shots I have taken. They aren't very good, but they aren't totally unusable.
What kind of results are you getting?
-pvs
I found that using Cool Camera yielded me much better pictures. The settings are much easier to change and the lag between clicking the trigger and the actual picture popping up is much quicker.
Not only that, but Cool Camera enables the LED as a proper flash, not just a flashlight that you have to keep turning on. Click the trigger, the flash fires off, picture is taken, more like a proper camera.
Check it out here:

It's the second file, CoolCamera v1.15.

Any tips on improving the camera?

My only complaint with this phone is the camera is pretty much crap. I find it almost impossible to take a photo without motion blur, if the light level is not perfect then its pointless even trying.
Are there any tips or tricks I am missing, or apps from the market that can replace or improve upon the stock camera app? Or are we stuck with what we have?
Try holding the phone still, and make sure what you're trying to take a picture of isn't moving? Lol thats the only tip that I have.

haha .. getting my kids to stay still while I take their picture is as as likely as me nailing water to the wall!
SnapPhotoPro is the best replacement camera app I have used - includes a stability/auto focus feature which I find eliminates most blur (havent tried taking a picture of anything moving though).
the best fix I found for indoors was setting the phone on a fixed surface when taking pics but really though, if you disable the auto focus to infinity, the camera snaps instantly instead if having to wait. its not a huge improvement but sometimes it helps.

Post a picture taken with your Focus!!

Ok, I went through the first 8 or 9 pages in the Focus section and never found a thread for this. So, I decided to make one. Pretty much every other phone I owned had a thread for this and it was fun to look at pictures people take to test out there camera.
In less than a full year I have went from an HTC PURE to a HTC MAGIC to a NEXUS ONE to a XPERIA X10 to a SAMSUNG GALAXY S CAPTIVATE and now to my lovely brand new SAMSUNG FOCUS....alot of phone switching I know. But im so happy with my Focus...I think WP7 is pretty damn awesome so far and its a great break from Android (which Im a little bored with).
One of the things I have been VERY impressed with in the Focus is the camera quality. So, hopefully we can keep this thread going and take pictures and post them for other people to see.
Ill start, I only have 1 pic to post for now, but Ill get more for sure. This shot was from work, just the first day after I got my phone so I was testing the camera.
Let the picture posting begin!!!

Nice pic man! what camera settings were you using for that?
ps. nice backyard to
I don't really remember exactly. I took a few and I was switching between macro and normal mode. I haven't had to change much in settings to get good pics on this phone. I have messed with macro, white balance most often. I have never used the antishake setting.
I think this camera is pretty good honestly.
My camera takes some great outdoor photos, but it seems to struggle with focus indoors. Anyone else notice that?
Speaking of indoor pictures:
Right before the start of Disney Princesses on Ice, taken with absolutely no skill or changes to any settings. Y'know, just to give an impression about what can be expected normally.
I have had issues with indoor focus a few times. I have also been able to get some really good indoor pictures. Unfortunately, I cannot share those pictures.
I will try to get some for this thread eventually. Here is another outdoor shot from my backyard. For this one, I used Macro mode.

Nice macro shot!
Anyone try playing with the sharpness yet? its medium by default, Ive taken a few pictures with it set to max and they seem nicer.
Here's a shot I took at the auto show a few weeks ago. No tweaks applied. Just pulled it out of my pocket and snapped.

As you can see, I had nothing else to do but take some pictures on the new phone. I rather enjoy it as my wall paper; its a friendly reminder to leave the house a bit earlier to avoid the traffic.
Note,
The when taking the picture, it also saved GPS info such as Altitude, latitude and longitude, nice touch.

samsung epic shutter speed

i used an iphone 4 to take some pictures and I have to say their shutter speed is quite quick. Any way to get the Epic to do the same without quality loss?
Hello,
Actually, the camera on the Epic is plenty capable of taking VERY rapid shots.... Go to the Menu while in camera mode and tap on CONTINUOUS SHOT. Then hold the shutter button down, and you'll see
. Try different aftermarket, specialty camera apps and you'll see as well.....like ACTION SNAP.
Thanks,
Matt!

Our phones already take action shots seamlessly. Maybe I'm thinking that's something else. Here's one I just took of my coworker leaving the office done on the Epic.
does anyone know what that dang add me thing is on the stock camera app?

iso controls light sensitivity. high iso = high noise, but required for dark pictures.

...I dont know how it is on the iPhone, but I cant take continuous shots at high resolutions... I need an iphone to compare... maybe the the 5MP shots are taking long cuz of the save time.
Do you all recommend to set your camera to superfine, fine, or normal?

"Photoshop" your self into another picture.
0. turn on add me.
1. Take a picture of a field
2. take a picture of your self.
3. It outlines you, and merges you into the other picture
...it does this horribly I might add.
Anyone know how to decrease the intensity of the led? I can't take a self shot in low light without the led setting me retinas on fire.

Camera focus troubles in macro mode

I was trying to shoot some macro pics but I'm having troubles to get objects in focus. It looks like a software bug because whilst focusing I can see the object becomes sharp at a certain point but the camera keeps on going deeper so that the object is out of focus again. Then it stops and the marker turns red.
I'm running on the latest KE2 FW. Cam FW is TBEC28.
Anybody else experienced the same?
Same here. When taking a shot i can see it go into focus, but then goes out of focus and shows the red markers
same here. I just try a slightly different area to focus on, until the camera succeeds focusing. Not a big deal to me really.
up to what distance can you approach the object till you get focus problems?

i think i am getting easy focus at 7-8 inches, difficult (or no) focus closer than that. but it may depend on the subject.

If you make a picture that far away, I don't think you can call it a macro shot anymore.
I can get a decent focus in macro mode up to 4 inch or so. If I go closer, I can't get a decent focus anymore, though I'm used to go closer at around 2 inch. But that aint gonna work in my case.
Besides, at 4 inch normal auto focus works nice as well. So there's not really a purpose for a macro mode if you can't shoot pictures closer than that.

Yup that's about the closest distance I can achieve as well. But if you compare a macro shot and an auto focus shot at this distance, there's not really much of a difference between the pics. So again, if you can't get a focus at a closer distance in macro modus, then what's the purpose of macro modus?

I've found if you tap to focus once when in Macro mode, it'll then let you focus with the shutter button. But until I tap to focus, I get the red crosshairs all the time and it can't get focus properly.
i use vignette cause it focus properly at lower distances
macro/non macro doesnt seems to make any diff
Hm maybe I should give vignette a try then. But the question still remains.. why are you putting a macro shot option in there when the autofocus modus gives you the same results, if not better.
I'm surprised that this subject doesn't get much attention. Where are the photographers?
I think it's due to software, or just a bug i don't know because i use camera360 it takes better marco shot.

i sort of agree
i didnt see much diff in macro on the sgs either. dunno what its really supposed to do xD
I often would like to have closer shots and the camera seems to be able to focus - but the software refuses the result and you've to be slightly further away from the object (even on vignette, albeit its better)
Yup it's really strange. I hope Sammy will fix this in the next update. It definately seems like a flaw in the software.
btw the sgs1 has the same behavior but not nearly as pronounced
Yes, same problem here. Impossible to scan barcodes or use Goggles.
Just encountered that focus problem too. Wasn't able to scan barcodes with two different apps
I'm on KE2. Can someone confirm this is a software error or a hardware defect?
I'm running on the latest KE2 FW , same here ..
