Hi everybody,
This is my first post here and I seriously hope someone can help me.
I unlocked my phone and was attempting to root it and flash Cyanogen's MOD. I flashed Armon_RA's recovery image into recovery partition using fastboot, but when I try to access it I'm getting an image of an android with a warning sign, which I can't post yet because I'm a newbie and mod's have to check my account... Once there the only thing I can do is remove the battery.
I've downloaded Armon_RA's img twice and from different sources and the same thing happens.
In terms of what I did, I tried to follow a step-by-step guide at androidandme.com, combined with Cyanogen's official Wiki.
I appreciate any kind of help,
Thanks!
BTW I'm on Ubuntu 9.10, in case it helps.
Took me like 4 times to flash the recovery before I got the care bear screen. Just keep flashing!
I just got it working right now and was about to post it had been fixed.
Thanks anyway!
Sorry for undigging this thread, but this thread is the first one which shows up when I searched for "android recovery warning".
I have spent the entire day trying to fix my Nexus One's recovery (I got stuck on the screen with a warning sign as well), with no success. Trust me, I tried (almost) everything possible to flash a new recovery/restore stock recovery.
What did work, though, was running fastboot flash recovery recovery.img 5 times in a row (remember to boot your phone in fastboot mode before sending these commands). That did the trick, and now I'm able to boot in recovery mode (Clockworkmod, by the way).
Thanks!

So how can I do a hard reset from this stock recovery when there's no menu commands, how do you use the stock recovery?
I have an unrooted S On nexus one that I need to hard reset because it boot loops for some reason, but didn't want to have to root it.

Push the power button and volume up buttons at the same time

Two buttons together ...
It is a common misconception that you have to push two buttons at the same time to activate some features. Trying to push them at exactly the same time is hit and miss and causes people to have issues.
In every case the combination is always hold one button down and then click the other button once ... much easier than clicking both together.
In this case I believe the combo is hold down power and then click Volume-Up once. (I may have it reversed).

It most likely is reversed. At least when you want to access the bootloader you want to hold down the volume down button (or maybe it is either volume button) and then turn on the phone. And with fastboot, you hold down the trackball as you turn on the phone.
I believe the volume up and powerbutton at the same was to "ok" the phone to apply an update.zip that was stored on the card (I remember doing that when I was running the Froyo build leaks from google).

OzCDN is correct, it is: hold down the power button and press volume up (the reverse does not work), but pushing them both together still works
Hi everyone i have a htc hd2 here its running ice cream tostie V0.9_AOKP27
The touch screen seems to work when you want so im looking for a new rom but the volume keys dont work? I dont no if thats because of the rom i have got but looking for the newest release for the htc hd2 any rom if someone could direct me or help me out thanks
Check if your volume keys are working in clockworkmod, and if they are, flash a ROM of your choice.
Swyped from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
nope the volume keys dont work at all strange as many people have had the same problem is there a way of flashing via sd i have downloaded roms and tried to use through clockwork via sd but it just seems to boot up normal :S????

If your volume keys do not work, download the image of a touchscreen-based recovery and flash it using flash_image in ADB or Terminal. (flash_image recovery <file-name>
You can reboot to recovery if your ROM supports that as an option in the reboot menu, or through adb command (reboot recovery)
can u suggest a touch screen recovery program ?

Look in the NAND section for clockworkmod based touch recovery. I remember seeing someone releasing it a while back.

Did you do anything to the phone that might of caused it to stop working? On mine i opened it and saw that the button on the ribbon that's pressed by the key was moved and it wasn't pressing it (Had to put a tiny piece of foil and tape). When you press it do you feel it kind of click or it doesn't feel like its pressing the button?
the buttons seems to be pressing down ok im just looking everywhere to try a find a solution
Hello!
So the problem started today, when my phone got shutted down ( because battery was 4%.. ) and when i was able to charge it, this sh#t started.
So, some things first:
- I'm not able to get to the place ( phone off -> volume down and turn phone on ) where i could flash wp6.5 or do task29
- I couldn't enter into rom because it froze to the part where HTC is green with black background
- Rom worked with safe mode
- USB flasher doesn't work in malgdr
- Buttons are messy ( but i have now figured how they work )
- I*M NOT ABLE TO HARD RESET, when it says " press volume up to reset ", it does nothing. I have to take off the battery to get off there.
+ I'm able to go to AD recovery, and do anything there
+ I'm able to use USB MassStg
So what can I do? Or what should i do? This is really sad to me. I've flashed roms since March with great succes, but now I face a problem like this in normal use. So i'm pretty confused.
I'm able to take some video if you need it.
Not sure did i make it to the right section, but i hope i made.
Hey u said that your buttons are messy and you figured out how they work. can you tell me i they started working. coz my hd2 is stuck on htc logo screen and not going to bootloader after pressing the power and volume down key . ithink their some malfuncaning in volume down key......... plz reply fast

What you are talking about is called bootloader and this is probably caused by a faulty volume down button. Unless you check the hardware for the volume down button and fix it if it is faulty there is no other fix for this issue unless you are using Windows Mobile then you can use the enterbootloader.exe.

It froze on what is called the splash screen and this is not all in all just a major issue and can more than likely be fixed.

Safe mode on a device is the same as safe mode on a computer, it will allow you to boot the device and hopefully find the problem or fix the problem.

This is probably a driver issue and is only needed to flash a Android recovery or to flash a Windows Phone ROM.

I would like some more info on this actually as far as what buttons you are talking about. It also plays into what I said about a faulty volume down button.

This is because you have MAGLDR installed, there is no software for the device to reset.

This is also good because you can transfer any needed files to your SD card using this.

I assume you are using a Android ROM because you said you can still use AD recovery. I suggest you read the first couple of post in the thread for the ROM you are using to find the suggested partition size you need as you may not have the right partition size if that is the case you will need to re partition your device but without being able to use USB flasher you will not be able to flash a new recovery with your new partition size. But you you should be able to edit a recovery and use it with AD sd, look in my guide linked in my sig for more infor on using recovery from SD card.
Also you can try to do a wipe of your cache and delvik cache and see if that helps. You can also try to make a backup of your ROM and re flash the Android ROM to see if that helps.
But to be honest with you your situation is odd because it did not happen right after you flashed a ROM. This sorta leads me to beleive you may have hardware issues.
LOL, when i started the phone today, the buttons worked normally. In Malgdr & AD recovery.
Of course, i tried to go to bootloader and I did. After that I flashed WM6.5 succesfully.
I'm going to upload a video about this all today or tomorrow. Rendering the video just now.
Edit: Installed this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1912740
Still, back and "windows" button are bugging. Sometimes when i press them, they change the volume and the real volume buttons do the same.
Edit 2: You can watch the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDMZQRzcZmM

I watched the video and I gotta say I think you have hardware issues. I would recommend you find someone to take a lookk at you volume buttons and the hardware buttons to see about fixing them. Both sets of buttons are replaceable.
I'll try to take care of that.
Thank you really much !
Not really bricked I would say, But i did fastboot oem unlock and pressed unlock and start and it just stays at the bootanimation logo no matter what i do. I tried to flash the factory image back, it says completed but then it wont boot still, i tried to re lock the bootloader and nothing, any ideas on what to do?

Are you able to access recovery at all? If your able to access recovery try preforming a factory reset to see if you can get past the boot animation. Also check out this information that may be helpful.

Always glad to hear that I was able to help someone out, but I'm always especially happy when I can help someone un-brick there device.
so the deal here is...
so once your in bootloader, hit recovery, then you will see the little dead droid with the triangle... this is where it gets tricky...
keep tapping ( DONT HOLD) the power and volume left ( dunjno which is up or down, so i say left, the one close to the power key)., or in somke cases just mash all the buttons till the menu pops up! then click wipe data then wipe cache and the device reboots itself... give it a try!
i dont knwo why the recovery menu doesnt pop up unjtil u keep pressing volume up/down and power buttons, just keep tapping them in the recovery menu weith the android triangle and u should see the menu pop up

Very interesting to know, maybe you should make a thread in the general section with your findings so other people can easily find this useful information as this seems to be a common problem people run into.

Works perfect. Thanks so much...
I've actually heard that it's a fastboot problem (with the tool, not the firmware on your device). Downloading the latest version of platform-tools solved this particular problem in a hurry for me, and it's probably best practice in the long run.
Is there something I can do in this situation except i don't have stock recovery installed?
Nevermind had a moment
Hi guys,
First, thanks in advance for your help. I have a question or clarification. I did try numerous Google searches as well as searches in these forums and I could not find a clear answer. The question is as follows.
How do I get rid of the custom recovery and go back to the factory recovery?
I found an article and completed all steps with the exception of “locking” the boot loader. When I press the power button and volume button, I still get the TWRP Recovery. Would locking the boot loader disable the TWRP custom recovery and revert to the factory recovery? A couple times I got the little Android guy with the exclamation point.
I apologize for the newb question. It just was not clear in the article and I could not find any information online. If this is not the way, can someone direct me to an article or let me know what I may have done wrong?
Try looking at this thread, it has lots of good info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2379797

Okay, I am not beyond making a real dumb mistake so please bear with me. I did look over the link. I ended up flashing the stock recovery and it does not appear to work. Well unless I am confused.
I restart my Nexus by pressing the Power Button and Volume down button at the same time. I then select "Recovery" from the menu. I see the text Google flash and then I am greeted with the Android guy on the floor with the exclamation point. Is this normal? Maybe I just dont know how the stock recovery looks?
Yes that is the stock recovery....pressing the volume buttons should activate the menu

Thank you, that makes sense then. I cannot believe it was something so dumb. I have been messing with this for hours. I knew it was strange that I could flash the custome recovery so many times with issues but would not be able to flash the factory recovery. I feel like an idiot. I did try pressing the Volume up or down button a few times and nothing happened though. Weird.

You have to press and hold Power, then press and release VolUp, then release Power
Don't immediately press them at the same time. Do it in the sequence listed.
