In most cases you cannot...it will fail. You can try to just put back stock recovery, but out of experience if a single file has been changed or missing the update will fail. Best option is to return to complete stock via Odin. Or wait to see if someone can pull out firmware to flash then come out with rooted ROMs.
I'm on stock, but am rooted. I cannot upgrade OTA. It says, "System has been tampered."
Do I have to use Kies to update?
SOLVED:
1) DOWNLOAD WANAM XPOSED
2) OPEN WANAM XPOSED
3) GO TO SECURITY HACKS
4) UNDER THE SYSTEM MENU CHECK ALL 3 BOXES
5) RESTART YOUR PHONE
YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET OTA! WOO HOO!

Make sure wanam is enabled in the xposed installer modules. If you don't have xposed installer you will need to get that as well.
Go to the samsung note 4 forum choose snapdragon theres a flashable debloater y can flash in recovery

Hi,
Could someone point me in the right direction, I want to update but don't want to brick my phone.
I have a Nexus 6p running build number MDB08L.
On the bootloader menu it says:
"BL: angler-02.01"
"Baseband:angler-02.15"
"Product/Variant: ANGLER-ROW-VN1"
It is rooted and has TWRP version 2.8.7.2
The phone works fine, on boot I get a message saying "Your device software can't be checked for corruption please lock the bootloader" but as I say it then goes past that, boots and everything works as it should.
I would like to know how I go about updating to 6.0.1, I tried OTA but obviously that fails.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

If only there was a guide that was pinned at the top of the general section (easy to find) that explained how to update. Oh wait, there is...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928
I wrote that guide, it's in-depth and meticulously maintained. You'll find exactly what you need in section 10. The OTA fails because you can't apply an update to a device that has /system modified. The warning you get every boot is normal for an unlocked device and is nothing to worry about.

No with TWRP, you need to get stock recovery or just wait to somebody release the 6.0.1 rooted already.

I also, humbly and respectfully, request that you do not blame the phone for your flashing problems. And I most humbly ask that you try to do additional reading and searching before you do anything else to your device. Almost all of your issues have been previously addressed in older posts and searching and reading are expectations for members. Hope the above link gets you there... :highfive:

You're absolutely correct! There is so much confusion about L and M updates. In fact, that is what this thread is about. And I did read the thread. So, to be more precise: if you just run the current OTA L update: no, you don't have to unroot. If you want to update to M you have to do that manually and unroot first.

It works most of the time if :
- You're still on LP
- Root method is 3
- Your phone was up to date with the last previous firmware.
In any case, if you end up with boot loop, just download the last full firmware from Asus support site and flash it using sideload method. Nothing will be lost but some time and maybe root access.

However, you still have to uninstall BUSYBOX and XPOSED INSTALLER if you installed them if you want the update process to be successful.

Illogical?
Jump from LP to MM is an upgrade that can lead to unexpected bugs if done without clearing cache and data. If you were a Company, would you take the risk of getting lots of customers complaints that you will have to supply support? It's better to give it as a manual procedure so only a few user supposed to know what they do, how to backup their data and apps settings, how to clean data and cache, will upgrade.

The link works. But i cant flash factory images becouse the bootloader is locked.
I cant sideload the Otas from the link (change to full OTA in meny) couse i have newer build (7.1 preview npf10c)
The only 2 existing OTAs i can sidelod is the same version im on 7.1 dev preview (dont work, have tryed)
And the OTA (not a factory image) you get when you quit preview program.
But i cant get the OTA becouse im in bootloop.
Google hasen releast it public and dont want to give me a link.
The only way i can get this OTA is if some kind soul quit devpreview, get the OTA och goes in to logcat and copy the url.
This is my last chance to get my phone working. ( I can also wait untill 7.1 official OTA is released.)
Can't you unlock the bootloader and flash stock factory image?
No, i havent checked "Allow OME unclock" in dev setttings. Verry stupid off me.
So i cant unlock bootloader!
I thought opting out of the beta would revert you to the latest stable OTA, which should be available on this site. Is that not the case?
https://developers.google.com/android/ota
From the beta website: You may opt-out of the program at any time to return to the stable, public version of Android.?*Note: If you opt-out when your device is running a beta version of Android, all user data on the device will be wiped.
Edit: Have you also tried cache wipe & factory reset from stock recovery?

Its somthing special whit it. Couse all old OTAs just say cant install, you are on newer build.
Whipe, factory and sideload the npf10c OTA many times in diffrent sequens.

Dont help.
My options seems to be verry limited.
The only things i haven't tryed that could help is..
1. Sideload the special revet OTA (dont have the link)
2. Sideload a newer build (Dont exist atm). Here i probally have to wait for newer dev preview och final 7.1.
I have been trying whipeing, sidelode (almost evry OTA i can find) and factory reset.
And still i have bootloop:good:
Then unfortunately it's the same NAND bug that's killing other 6Ps. If flashin the same OTA again, and clearing all data doesn't fix it, then nothing will. Sorry.

Ota 7.1 (npf10c) -> 7.0 (NBD91K)
I have the same problem - bootloop and locked bootloader - and i'm on 7.1.1. N4F260 on my Nexus 6P. Is there a downgrade OTA fix for me? Nothing else has worked.
For anyone in here looking for solution to boot loop. If you have access to boot loader but NOT recovery, and flashing factory images through boot loader does not fix it you most likely are looking at the BLOD. Many threads in this section are discussing RMA and their experience with it.
