Having troubles getting the latest vendor image to stick - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running MMB29M vendor image. I'm trying to flash vendor image MMB29P. I've been using skipsoft software. Awesome program, but no matter what I do I can't get the new image to stick. How can I update it manually?

I suck at trying to use adb. I never could get it to work. Is this what you're talking about using?

Yup, that is the manual way. What part of ADB have you had difficulty with? There's a fairly comprehensive guide by Heisenberg that walks you through using ADB/fastboot quite simply. I use fastboot on OSX, so if you're using a Mac I can offer a tip or two.

Well, from what I see (can't download as I'm a 5X user) Screw'd by dsmitty166 has a 12/27 build which is based on December security update. This sounds like what you are flashing. There is one January Angler build that was released yesterday according to their G+. I am willing to bet the January release is up to date whenever it is released publicly.

No doubt, hope that helps. I can't help you beyond that since it appears the rom is in a beta stage of some sort given there isn't a new changelog beyond late December.

Android N update NPD35K

Just got NPD35K pushed to my phone. Hopefully some new stuff from the Google I/O?
I thought I wouldn't be able to receive updates with a rooted device and a custom kernel. Is this the new way of Android N system image pushing?
Apparently this is now the actual beta. And no longer a preview version. This counts as preview 3.

Just received it also. Great ... exciting!
Got it here too,so far,so good!!!

I've never once taken an ota but I'm tempted. Is it safe to accept if you're decrypted?

Were you unencrypted when you updated to it? I know TWRP doesn't work when it's encrypted (on N) so I'm waiting for the factory images to be released so I can modify those and stay unencrypted, but if it works anyway I'll update ASAP.
Hello. I want to take this update too. My bootloader is locked. Though i have enabled oem unlocking and usb debugging. Can i ota update to android n beta? I mean in case i get into bootloop. I have everything stock. Nothing changed. Currently on may update mob30i.

What i wanted to ask was. Should i be safe in case o run into bootloop. Or brick my device?

Systemless root with 6.0.1

Hey guys,
Anyone using systemless root with any versions of 6.0.1? I am still on 6.0.0 because I did not find a systemless root version except the original one posted on chainfire's site from late last year. I know the version of the systemless root matters as the kernel version matters for it to build the correct boot image.
I am not asking how to do it, just if anyone has successfully done this and which files (file names would be nice, so I can google 'em) did you use, to do it.
I have done a ton of searches all over the place and can not find one way or the other out there.
I don't want to hear a bunch of systemless vs non-systemless root stuff, please.
Thanks!
Hello old friend! I don't see many folks from the Atrix2 around anymore.

I am using SuperSU 2.72 systemless with the latest stock 6.01. You could also use the newer BETA-SuperSU-v2.74-2-20160519174328.zip, I suppose.

This is my 4th Nexus device, and I will not go to anything else at this point. I am still working on the Ubuntu phone from a dev standpoint, plus a few things here with Android.
Hope to see you around here more often.

Hey meekrawb thanks for the info. I went to chanfire's site an took a look and the only boot image for the 6P is the mb08k image, which is the 6.0.0 release, and not a boot image for the later releases including the newer 6.0.1. I am guessing that since it is the boot image that the actual release verision is arbitrary, but just want to be sure. I plan on trying it anyhow as I can just flash a proper image if it gets into a bootloop.

You don't need those special boot images anymore. When you flash the zip it automatically patches your boot.img.

Npf26j ota zip

Edit 2: speculation be damned. This seems to be a true release build and not a leaked developer preview like has been hypothesized. Flagged REL for a release build. https://imgur.com/uU0bR2S
THIS IS FOR PIXEL XL ONLY OF COURSE. November 22nd OTA Build NPF26J
Includes bug fixes and performance enhancements. New Modem and Kernel. Kernel updated to include Double Tap To wake and Lift to Wake. May be other features. Don't know.

I'm not going to update anyway, perfectly happy with the way the phone is running with ElementalX kernel and don't want to mess it up
Will there be an update for the NDE63X build eventually or will we have to roll back to the V build?

Note: While my device got the OTA update notification, it's refusing to actually update to that build, complaining about a manifest mismatch - so YMMV on this link.
