I left my phone on over night and it downloaded a January security update. I'm on systemless root, is this thing safe to install? Here's a screen I took.
Was it fine?
My only solution to this was to flash the latest MMB29P images. Since I'm rooted with custom recovery it would not install. Everything went smoothly though. I followed Heisenberg's tutorial in the general section. I followed step 10 to a T and it all worked out. I'm now on the latest build with the latest security patch.
Help

Can't you flash the stock boot and recovery for your current version, and then accept the update as normal? Then re-flash your custom parts after (recovery, kernel, supersu).

No. I didn't. Follow Heisenbergs guide. Step 10
Thank's a lot man..
Or stop the notifications from coming in at all. I don't care about these monthly updates, and will likely only go through the hassle of un-rooting and updating on a major update. To stop getting notified, I followed these steps suggested in a recent thread here:
Download Disable Service from the Play Store -
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wq.disableservice
Disable SystemUpdateService under Google Play Services and Google Services Framework.

Not sure. Been a while since I've looked at it.
It's whatever step that's labeled "how to update to a new build of the same ROM"

Yes, it's now section 9, my guide has undergone some maintenance and a section was removed. It's all there in detail.
So if flash the latest build from the same rom do i have to root again?

A simpler way to flash security updates is by using flashfire:Flashfire xda thread. Just download flashfire, and when you open the app it will automatically find your ota updates. I always upgrade my 6p this way and it has always worked well for me. The app also roots the newly installed update, you don't lose your data doing this. If you get a warning that it can't install the ota(i don't know because i always flash the factory image through flashfire before the ota comes out), just download the factory image and choose to flash: system, boot(unless you have a custom kernel) and then start flashing. I think this is easier then always having to hook the phone up to a computer.

I've followed the instructions on rooting my Nexus 4 along with all subsequent updates from nexus4root.com
However, that site has been inactive since 26Nov, 2013.
So I'm running a rooted stock 4.4 KRT16S and have got the 4.4.2 OTA update sitting on my phone waiting to get installed.
Please help me with advice on one of these two options:
1] A link to a file and instructions where I can update from 4.4 rooted to 4.4.2 rooted.
or
2] Will enabling OTA survival on my SuperSU v1.86 and then tapping on the OTA 4.4.2 on my device work?
Much thanks in advance

Downloaded the factory image of 4.4.2 and flash. Since you are rooted do a nandroid backup, a Titanium Backup, and backup your sdcard because all of it will be wiped. This is if you are determined to have the stock 4.4.2 this is the only thing I can think of to get there.
You can also try a custom rom as well.

Thank you Berry.
Wouldn't that cause me to lose root?
Supersu paid version is the only one that has survival mode(or originally was) and that's not guaranteed.
Definitely won't survive a factory image flash.
I know it works OTA from 4.3 to 4.4 but haven't tried 4.4,1 to 4.4.2. Should work and if it doesn't it is easy enough to re root.
Any problems feel free to ask.

You'll lose it but then just flash back supersu zip file and you're back rocking a rooted nexus. And btw, you don't need to flash factory image for 4.4.2. Just go to general section and look for a thread name OTA Helpdesk (use search option mate ) and flash/sideload the OTA file in recovery (preferably stock recovery or you can use twrp but cwm is a no go for OTA). Then flash back supersu. This is the easiest way and you still keep all your apps/data intact.

Its 4.05 bootloader still. Somehow in the zip its called bootloader-flo-flo-04.05.img
There's a new kernel, some changes in the source. Its compiled March 21
Not much else changed
Has any one got the ota yet ?
@Vkk187
ofc not.
Flash the stock image with NRT and check "dirty flash" and that will not delete your apps and data.

I just completely flash-all every time a new build comes out as I do not know how to side load using NRT or TWRP (am I wasting my time on doing it this way). If someone could please explain to me how to side load I would be forever grateful. I have searched and cannot find clear instructions or walk through on side loading
Having read wugfresh page,it says Since lollipop, its hard to sideload OTA now. I myself try it last night with my rooted stock recovery,it fails to install the OTA from google, even if file has been downloaded automatically. Its harder to get OTA install smoothly nowadays especially if you on lollipop. No choice had full flash without wipe. And reroot again.

Actually, it's just as easy sideloading as it's always been. The difference is that you can't sideload an OTA (or receive one in any way) if you've done any kind of alterations to the system. This includes rooting and/or flashing custom recoveries and kernels. Even if you unroot there are still residue alterations in your system, meaning you'll have to do a full system flash anyway.
It's worth mentioning that unlocking your bootloader does not prevent installing an OTA.

Any versions of Android on the Nexus 7 2013 ran fine for me.
Recently got Moto X pure, and I'm loving it. Now I've rooted before, but I really don't much experience with this, (since that phone never got an OTA update, afterwards or bootloader unlocked). I wanted to ask, When it comes to rooting, Does the Operating system it is on matter? I did the OTA update from 5.1.1 to 6.0 and I'd like to root my phone now. Do I just follow a 5.1.1 guide, or is there something else I have to do? Thanks!
Dont follow the guide on youtube thats for lollipop!
---------- Post added at 09:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:58 AM ----------
Unlocking the bootloader is the same though, then search to trupure on the forums, its a really good minimalistic rom for the moto x pure
I would read the 6.0 thread, the twrp thread and the kernel thread to get started.

What's confusing though is he states in section 4 the steps are only for lollipop. To go to another link for Marshmallow. Is that still the case or can we flash Beta SuperSU the old fashioned way through TWRP? I took the MM update while on stock. I have since unlocked bootloader and installed latest TWRP. Just making sure nothing has changed.

Rooting the MXPE on MM requires systemless root because, for it to work, a modified/patched boot.img has to be flashed along with SuperSU.
The most recent versions of SuperSU patch the boot.img automatically.
If you follow the link to those MM instructions, you will find the systemless root method option. Follow the link at the top of that systemless root thread to download BETA_Super SU v.2.62-3, which is confirmed to work on our Moto XPE without issues.
Once you download it, you can flash it normally via TWRP. Profit.
Hope this helps.

That worked perfectly, THANK YOU! Found BETA_SuperSU-v2.62-3-20151211162651.zip, flashed via TWRP and worked like a charm. I got so confused by all the variants of devices....XT1572, XT1575, Brazil, India, US, Lollipop, Marshmallow, TWRP... I really appreciate the help!
I've been on the game for far too long, but there seems to be a confusion when
it comes to rooting this phone. All my previous phones have been fairly easy to root.
I read around a lot of forums but they have outdated information or are for Lollipop.

or do i need additional steps?

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I find the available info confusing. I'm on stock MM with TWRP 2.8.7.1 installed. Looking at steps 9 on from the link above mentions flashing a modified boot image for systemless root to work with 2.52. I think the latest SuperSU (2.66? modifies the boot image, making flashing the modified unnecessary.

Im wondering this same thing, from what i've seen in posts we should be able to flash SuperSU 2.66 on a stock rom with TWRP and root should work.
