The camera stopped working - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The camera stopped working on my phone. I uninstalled google camera then reinstalled it. It didn't help. When I hit the camera button on screen, the controls for the camera show up on the screen, but nothing works. The screen is dark (like there is a lens cover on it). I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

Do you have a custom kernel?

I'm running screwed android

You need to flash boot.img from package that you flashed rom or stock don't know what you using.
Just flash it and you will be fine

I have to flash Boot.img from the rom I'm running (screwed android)? I have to pull the boot image from the rom it's self? Thanks. I don't want to have to send the phone back to google.
What if I flash a different rom? I tried that, it didn't work.

Camera doesn't work on Custom roms

My camera just shows a black viewfinder on all custom roms. Does anyone know what's broken?
I tried Chroma, Cataclysm - both have the same issue. 3rd party cameras don't work either...

Does it work fine on Stock firmware?. If not, it could be a hardware issue.

Most likely you're running a 6.0 kernel on 6.01 system ROM (or vice versa). That is known to cause this camera issue.

Will check on the kernel. Yes, it works on stock....just confirmed that now!
What kernel would you guys recommend for 6.0.1?

I had a problem with using an older boot image with 6.0.1. Switch from traditional to systemless root (patches boot image on the fly) and camera works fine.

Running Franco's kernel for great battery life, working well so far.
I flashed Elemental X 1.00 for the 6P and it's fixed. http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexu...x-n6p-t3240571
I'd prefer to be on stock kernel but I'm not at home and don't have to A -> C USB cable to mess around with reflashing images through ADB. Hopefully this helps somebody.

[ZIP]OOS 2.2.0 Camera patch for low light recording

Hello
I got tired waiting for an official fix, so I came up with this workaround.
twrp-flashable_OPX2.2.0_camera_patch.zip - This zip with apply the OPX front camera configuration.
twrp-flashable_OPX_camera_patch_imx214.zip - This zip will apply the OPO rear camera configuration
You'll be able to record 1080p at night without worrying about the fps drop issue.
I am not responsible for any damage on your device when applying this patch.
EDIT: Added a revert flashable zip.
EDIT2: Added zip file with imx214 libchromatix_default_video.so
Sweet. Thanks
Swapped my Recent and Back buttons.
Edit:
A couple reboots might've fixed this, but I also messed with Gravity Box a bit as well. There's two options to fixing that problem, potentially.

This patch shouldn't mess with buttons layout. You might had a pending operation that took effect on reboot when you flashed this zip.
try hydrogen os.
does your phone need to be rooted or will it work fine with stock?
Does this patch works also with custom roms like cm13?
Sorry. This patch is for default camera only? Or its for any camera apps running on oss 2.20?
It works perfect now, thank you so much for this mod. Where did this libs came from?
Shame on One Plus btw.

I should work if the custom rom uses the same BLObs as Oxygen OS.

I've tested other s5k3m2 binaries from other devices but they all miss some needed instructions.
This is the front camera binary
tested the imx214 file but it pushes iso way too high.

Back button stopped working

My s7 edge (sm-g935fd) back button stopped working. Recent button works fine. When i press it Back also lights up, but doesn't work at all. I tried *#2663# trick and re-flashed nougat with odin with no luck at all. What do you guys suggest to do??
P.S. screen is cracked but the crack is on the opposite side of the button. So i don't think it's the issue..
Maybe you can flash ROM with navigation bar, like S8 ports or Superman Roms.

if you are not currently rooted there are apps on the playstore that enable a nav bar for you
if you are rooted then all you need to do is edit your build.prop and add the line
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
and then reboot your phone
the nav bar is already present no need to flash custom roms

Thanks, man!

Just flashed the system.img from Pixel 2 XL (OPM2.171026.006.C1, Jun 2018) to my PH-1

Everything seems to work, with the exception of the camera...I knew that wasn't going to work.
With that said...Is there anyone out there that has not only the knowledge, but the time as well to help to get either Gcam or essential cam working with this image? I've already tried the Gcam ports, none of them work.
Thanks
Getting the gcam to work, would be the true pixel experience.
I'm actually surprised that went as well as it did honestly.

Actually, with your help on the "DIY GCAM Module V2" and the "MGC_2.7.010_MI6_1.3" from the Google camera port from BSG I was able to get an older camera app to work. All of the others from Gcam port crash.
I haven't tried installing any from the playstore.
Edit- I just installed open camera from the playstore with success.

I started with a fresh install of the essential June firmware, flashed system image from Pixel 2 xl June release. After flashing I entered stock recovery and did a wipe. Reboot.
Can't help but wonder if the Android p system image would work
I bet it would.
What exactly did you flash? Just the system image? This is definitely exciting....
i cant get the system image to boot on a clean or dirty flash, and the android p system image flashes and boots but wifi and pixel launcher force close (clean flash as well) and where im on sprint, the activation fails so i have no mobile service...and clues?
I feel like we could be on the verge of something awesome

The project treble idea imo is fantastic! I have been running this for about 18 hours now and haven't had any issue.
How awesome would it be to turn this phone into a pixel software wise talk about development and easy modifications
So.e5hing would need done about Sprint activation...for whatever reason, spring dont want to activate using pixel software...trying to find some kind of work around
So has anyone not on sprint tried Android P?

I found a potential bug.
No audio when trying to make a phone call. The call gets placed, just can't hear anything.

Any good Gcam for stock Rom?

Currently im in stock ROM rooted but i can't find any gcam that works good with my phone. The version i have is the fu24 one which works but not as it should for the focus side.
Suggest me a version down below for the stock ROM.
Thanks
I don't think the focus on any GCam works on the stock ROM after a update. There's a kind of fix where you need to set the image aspect ratio to 16:9 for it to work. You lose a few pixels but hey, at least the camera finally works.
@Zentom In customs roms 9.0, will it work normally?

so switching to 16:9 ratio, Gcam wont have Autofocus issues in stock pie Roms?
Also is trick is for gcam v5 or v6 or both?

Correct. I'm using my GCam on 16:9 on my Stock, no modification Pie ROM for a while now and have absolutely no issues. And yes, this fix works for all the GCam versions. I have both v5 and v6 and autofocus works on both.

Sure! I can't upload over here because of the file size I think but I'll give links.
I use this one for Night Sight and for RAW (the front camera doesn't work in it): https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/gcamera/MGC_6.1.021_V1.apk
I rarely use this one for HDR+ with a longer shutter, and the front camera works too: https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/gcamera/GoogleCamera-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V1.apk
This is the best one I have used so far. If you drop back cam to 9MP the autofocus issue goes away. I'm using stock androidone pie on MiA1 GCam_6.2.024_N7P_test1.apk

It's a bit more complicated than that but its not hard to be honest . This is the guide i followed to flash my mi a1 https://telegra.ph/Installation-Guide-For-Mi-A1-Pixel-Experience-03-26 . Take a backup of everything before flashing the ROM if something goes wrong also watch a couple videos before trying it . Good Luck
