nexus 6p has unusual engraving could it be fake - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my nexus 6p has an unusual engraving on the bottom of its back plate. it says C E 0618 then a warning symbol then a non-disposal symbol. could it be fake? i have never seen on this on another phone.

I think almost everyone has it.

so whats the deal!! why are there different phones?

All the nexus phone have these engraved.
Not to worry they are genuine!

These might be demo devices and might not have it because of that.

I believe all Nexus 6Ps sold outside the United States have that CE engraving at the bottom.

Exactly, there is nothing wrong with your phone My phone also has this mark.

"The CE mark certifies that the products have met EU health, safety and environmental requirements that ensure consumer and workplace safety." If you go to Settings, About phone, Regulatory information, you should find that same information there.
My device does not have any engravings on the backplate.
---------- Post added at 07:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:40 AM ----------
I've seen that engraving in some videos before i received my graphite 6P but my backplate is blank.

Where is this supposed to be? The very bottom by the charger? I have no markings on my phone at all except the NEXUS on the back cover and a small Huawei right above the plastic portion on the back at the very bottom.
My Nexus 6 had some certification and model number stuff on the very bottom of the phone I think, but the 6p doesn't appear to have anything displayed on the outside at all. Maybe only the international versions have it?

My int'l model has it. Almost every phone I came up with has it stamped on different places, sometimes the bottom side of the phone, sometimes inside the battery deck as a sticker.

What is the difference between the GT-N7000 and the N7000

Guys,
I ordered a N7000 a few days ago. I noticed today that the N7000 dropped by $25 (from $700 to $675) and another version the GT-N7000 is also being sold for $15 more. What is the difference between these two as I Googled but cant find anything definitive? Thanks in advance for the feedback.
Hmmm, i would also want to know...
---------- Post added at 12:22 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:19 AM ----------
Edit: On Samsung's site it says GT-N7000, so i just think that some people only call it the N7000.

I was wondering if maybe it was a slightly different model. IN the end the code names are close enough I guess.
I think they're one and the same, the only difference is they omitted the "GT" part.
I ordered the "N7000" from Amazon, on the actual product it states "GT-N7000"
It might be regional thing but its the same, my box has GT-N7000.. I believe this is just a coding for samsung like the SGH-I9100 and on some parts its GT-I9100
Bump..
Does anyone know the difference? It's April 2012, and they still have price differences. I ordered 3 so far, and all of them had the screen tinting issue. (Screen tint changes from green to red from time to time when I'm perfectly holding it still.)
I don't know if I should take my chances and try the more expensive GT-N7000 labeled ones. I think all of the ones I ordered so far was marked as N7000.

that's just bad luck. the only thing common should be the pink tint when taking pictures on 100% pure white backgrounds.
NO difference there are one device. They just omitted the GT. Its GT-N7000. "GT" is a family in Samsung's phone's lineup.
Now, why there is a price difference that I wouldn't know. Maybe one is open box or refurbished or something,,,,,

Both are sold as new on Amazon (fullfilled by Amazon), but I never seen one completely sealed.
I don't know if I should try it one more time from a different seller in Amazon, but same fullfilled by amazon. Returns are easy, but I just hate that I'm spending so much time on finding the one without screen issues. I don't notice it during the day so I finish setting up everything, and then before I go to bed, that's when I find out the screen tints changing in the dark even with all automatic brightness and color stuff disabled.

Nexus 7 defects?

How many of you are having manufacturer defects out of the box?
Had a dead pixel on mine that I picked up from GameStop
Also it seems the screen is coming up on the left like if the adhesive is giving out already.
I spoke to GameStop who referred me to play store but then play store said any warranty claims have to be done through the retailer. Obviously GameStop is out of stock but they said they were emailing corporate for me today to ask for another unit to be sent. So I should have mine replaced around Wednesday hopefully.

I got so used to amoled screens I forgot about dead pixels on LCD. Is it possible it being an LCD it might just be stuck?
Anyone ever have any success with one of those stuck pixel fix apps?
Either way I'm doing an exchange because of the screen not being recessed on left side properly. But hopefully no dead pixels on next one.

Lol. Looks like trolling but I did read in another thread a guy had issue with his screen stating to come off his I/O device. I noticed mine while I was holding it on the left side the screen was giving in and making some creaking and such. Upon closer inspection I noticed on the left side/middle area the screen was actually sitting above the frame. Everywhere else it was sitting nicely and recessed under the frame.
Anyway the risk of defects is always going to be higher with the first runs.

Download a dead pixel test app on play store. Its basically solid color backgrounds you alternate so in some cases you'll be able to see the pixel in a red background etc.

Sure...its a bit difficult to see on a picture but its basically the screen rising above the border in one area so the edge of the screen is exposed. That same area is soft as well where pressing on makes the screen move in and out with creaking. The rest of the edges are sturdy.
Dead pixel I'm not posting photo since I'm sure everyone knows what that looks like but its located on the app drawer button in portrait mode. Shows up the most in white backgrounds.

Mine has a similar issue, its on the left middle section. Whatever is holding the screen down is coming loose like the adhesive. The screen works fine but you can see the screen is raised a couple a cm or so. Makes a slight creak sound.
Might contact Asus for warranty and see how they do it or just give Gamestop some time so i can exchange it.

Bet this is going to be a known issue all around. I was able to push it down but i figure its adhesive so its eventually going to happen again and again until the adhesive isn't sticky anymore. Sad days but other than that this tablet is solid.

Well according to ifxit, they are small retaining clips that hold it so i hope its not a broken clip. I could easily put more adhesive down a it looks like it just pops up.

I really appreciate it and thank you. Now I know what to look for once my N7 arrives.
My Gamestop doesn't have any extras, calling Google to see if they can do anything. I would like to see if i can get a replacement sent out and then send this one back but we shall see.
I returned 3 transformer primes for screen defects. Asus qc isn't the greatest. It's probably why they're prices are so good for what you get.
On mine when the brightness is on the lower end the screen starts to flicker a little. I think it's software related. But once you set the brightness higher it stops doing it.
Oh and it only does that on white backgrounds like google voice search.

Just got my 3rd replacement Nexus. 2 of the screws are missing! What would you do?

I just unboxed my 4th Nexus 7. Had half a hair's width of screen lift, but no other problems. I figured I would just keep this one. I took off the back cover to see if I could maybe tighten screws or whatever, and to my surprise 2 of the bloody screws are missing! The one second from the top on the left hand side, and second from the bottom.
Now obviously my first thought is that someone has had this unit before me and returned it.... Would you agree with this assumption?
Do I send this back as faulty? I don't want it falling apart due to missing screws. What would you do?
This whole faulty Nexus debacle has almost become entertaining.
Do nothing at all (as long as it works fine of course). The 2 (someone reported 3) missing screws were likely done on ASUS's end to help reduce stress on the screen itself, and/or to fix the screen lift issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1863411
Is it a C8? C8's (and even C7's) are reportedly coming new out of the box missing two screws, I've had one myself that I took back and exchanged. Still being discussed if its QC error or them attempting to solve screen lift (one I had was lifting even with them missing.)
Cheers guys, I missed those threads. It is indeed a C8 which I am surprised at because I'm in New Zealand and I figured we would still only have 6s or 7s here.
Looks like I'm keeping this one after all. :good:

One of the screws was rattling around in my new 32 GB Nexus 7!
When I opened it up to remove the screw I noticed two screw holes unoccupied.
I decided not to hassle with a return/lengthy RMA process given that my device seems to be working fine and has no discernible screen-lift.
Thankfully, the screw didn't short something out.
This unit is a C9OK model.
The lack of screws has been that way for months now. Its done like that from the factory. I got one back in Aug (C8O) and it was missing two screws. Havent bothered to pop off the back of my new 32gb model because I really dont care at this point lol.
Reportedly this is an attempt at fixing the screen lift by ASUS. If the screen doesn't lift then the problem is solved by removing the two screws.
I don't understand why you think an intentional change by Asus makes your device defective.
Did they promise you 4 screws?

MXPE quality - MotoMaker vs. Amazon vs. BestBuy

So I have read here and elsewhere that some of the common complaints about the MXPE are battery doesn't last long, yellow tint on the screen, 808 running hot, laggy screen response, jerky scrolling, etc.. Not saying these are really issues, just saying these are some of the things I've read about here or elsewhere.
I'm curious if these things appear to be equally common across MotoMaker, Amazon, and BestBuy sourced phones or if, for example, Motomaker phones are more prone to these issues.
In other words, are the chances of getting an MXPE 'with issues' any different with one that was pulled off the line for MotoMaker customization than with one that came from a large batch of the same configuration intended for Amazon or BestBuy?
Thoughts?
Thanks!
From the experiences I've read it seems like early motomaker editions were more likely to have a faulty speaker. That's about it.
you have to remember that most people come to the forums to complain rather than to praise.
My MXPE is perfect!
MotoMaker phone here. None of the above mentioned problems, and the only annoyances I have aren't really worth crying over.
1. If Moto Display isn't active, when pressing the lock button to wake the phone, sometimes there's this blue-ish glitch thing going on near the bottom of the screen for a fraction of a second.
2. The motor that controls the vibrating feels lose? I don't even know if that's an actual problem or not, just not used to it compared to other phones. Vibration feels different.
Amazon 32gb here. My only issue is slight light bleed in one spot and the occasional studder when scrolling from Google now back to a home screen. My battery is a tank (really good life), the phone runs cool, screen color is great.
^I can echo all aspects from above. When it's a dark room how much light bleed is reasonable? It comes from the lower left side.
I don't care much for customizization from Moto.
Picked up the 16GB from BB today, and pretty happy with it so far.
Got a total of 4 phones from Amazon, 3 of them had yellow tint screen..
Phones are black 16gb x2 and black 32gb x2

Got mine from Moto Maker with a really crappy display panel. Had a light white spot in the upper right quadrant and about three areas where light bleed was visible. I think you will find this across the board. It doesn't do Motorola any good to assemble custom devices for people that are faulty. You would think they would have better quality control, but they are Chinese owned now, and that usually means bad things to come. I am getting a replacement but I will be interested to see how much better it will be. If it is much better then time will tell how well it holds up and lasts. If it turns out that it doesn't hold up very well then it will be the last device I buy from Motorola. It's too bad because they used to be very rock solid. The Droid Razr that I have that is 4+ years old has less light bleed than this new Moto X Pure. My Galaxy S4 has none whatsoever, of course it's AMOLED. We will see how the next device turns out. If it sucks too, I will report back.

Wow that doesn't bode well. My worry is that I want to unlock the boot loader and root. I can just see Motorola trying to say that the unlock has caused the issue and refuse my claim. I know unlocking voids your warranty but I have heard from a few that Motorola will still accept the claim if it is a physical failure not related to software. I just don't trust it. If they burn me then I will never buy Moto again. I just hope I get a solid replacement device with no white spots and minimal light bleed. I would like a perfect display but at this price, it might not be possible. it seems some are lucky enough to receive one free of light bleed, but I think many more have moderate to serious light bleed. To me that is poor quality control on the part of Motorola(Lenovo). Should have my replacement buy Thursday and I will report back on it's quality.
Its doesn't show good in the camera but in real life its bothering.
Here one more maybe it shows better, the first one i had from best buy had a black dust stuck in between the screen and the gorilla glass right in the middle of the screen like a black dust not dead pixel.
To me that looks like the lcd is being pinched is it in a case?
No its not in the case, I think its being pinched also maybe there is a screw right on that spot, but i dont wanna open the back to see.

Not sure if you want to deal with Motorola and RMA but you might be able to get another phone...I had the same problem but mine was easily solvable. It was the case causing it, and that's getting replaced.
I would suggest asking for someone higher when on the phone and also try the Motorola forum and see if you can get some help there
Amazon 32 Gb here, aside from somewhat of a rattly volume toggle, no problems so far.

Mine was exactly the same so I think whatever is in that spot is pressing against the screen. I immediately contacted Motorola and initiated an RMA which worked perfectly. They sent me the RMA within one hour and I received a code to build a new phone about 45 minutes after that. I ordered the new one the same day I RMA'd the faulty one. Calling Moto is a PITA, they are Indian and some have heavy accents which makes it hard to understand them. Their headsets absolutely suck, they sound way too loud and their voice just sounds like a bunch of noise. I have resorted to using the chat instead and that pisses me off less. In any case I can't complain about the RMA process, it has gone well so far. My new phone should be here Wednesday. We will see how that one looks. Hopefully something in their manufacturing hasn't gone wrong causing these phones to have that spot. There was a few others on Reddit reporting the same problem and it's always the upper right quadrant.
I think its gonna be the same, they all are the same way manufacturing, i was at best buy today and i saw the display model had the same thing on the same side upper right white spot. Im guessing maybe the wanted to put the nitrification light there lol?

Grey bars on the display after a couple months - Wide spread issue or just random?

Dear XDA,
I heard that the s7 and the s7e sometimes have gray bars on the display after months of use. Are these troll posts or is this a well documented issue?
They're definitely not troll posts. No widespread issue either. There are only a dozen isolated cases I came across on various internet platforms.
grey horizontal lines!
they are over 100 units of s7 edge with that problem!
I had it... took it back and they swapped it no problem. Not widespread, but it's a known issue.
Major disaster on s7 edge Exynos SM-G935F after 3 months. Vertical colour lines running the right side of screen. Phone heats up to 41c. Battery drains to 80% in half an hour then screen starts flashing.
No warranty in u.s.a. A real goatf**k. Will never buy another Sammy product again. Have many cheap phones that never die.
Took the phone completely apart and back together without resolve. Anyone interested in seeing pics of the operation? Lol

Strongly recommend not doing this. Make no mistake you will shatter the back glass. Even with heat and careful removal. Only when you have nothing to loose in this case. Lol

True! In this case it's best to destroy it.
Removed and reconnected the little display cable
to no avail. Still not sure if it's a bad display or what. Even Sammy doesn't know what is causing the note 7 disaster.
Still using it however as a hand warmer. Just in time for winter.
well with those lines in it u would have to buy screen for it and they are not cheap.
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
I figured that it would be the screen but checked the display cable just in case. Well back to the reliable moto g that took the blurry pictures. SAD day. Lol still better than iPhone. Haha.
BTW, when the screen is off the phone runs cool even when running apps. Must be a short in the screen heating it up.
Found a complete solution here.
Works like a charm.
