CM13 running OK but can't get recovery "secure booting error" - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After installing CM13 (coming from 20H stock 4.4.2 firmware) I somehow ended up in the hard-brick Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 mode.
I fixed this using these steps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142 writing that old 2.6.3.2 TWRP and other .bin files extracted from the .kdz
Phone boots OK into CM13 now, but when I try to get into recovery (either using Power+Vol Down or through Advanced Reboot in CM) I get the error:
Secure booting error
Error: Boot Certification Verify!

Does anyone know how I can fix this, and flash TWRP? Tried TWRP Manager, Flashify etc, but they all give a flashing error. All fixes for this which I have found online seem to be for people who are running a stock ROM.
(I know going into download mode and returning to stock again etc will sort this, but surely that's not necessary?)
As I said the phone works fine, boots into CM ok, I just have no recovery mode.

You don't have to post this twice, one threads enough.
You need to go to stock again, those partitions that you flashed are old especially that twrp image (not supported by LP).
A clean slate your phone needs.

Thanks Art. Will do.

It's alright, you can't delete it. Just write something like "delete" in the title.

Lg g2 no os at all

Hi!
First I tell you how I recently messed up my LG G2 D802.
I hadn't had a custom rom for ages and now I wanted to have one (This wasn't the first time. I've done this a lot earlier). I had always had root access, but not custom recovery. So the first thing was to install one and I chose to download Rom Manager from Google Play, and then install ClockWorkMod. So, when I was installing the custom recovery I came up with a problem: something went wrong during the installation (I have no idea why). When I booted the device, white letters and numbers appeared on the top left of the screen, saying something like: "boot certification error" and numbers like "[780] [800]" and so on. The screen went black and the phone didn't load the OS. So I was shocked of course because I had never had such a problem.
So, desperate for trying everything to find the solution, I tried tens of ways to try to fix the problem. Finally I read about thing called SRKTool. So I used it and ended up having TWRP on my device, and no OS at all. I tried to flash CM12 and CM12.1 (downloaded from the official site) but nothing works out. TWRP says that flashing the ROM is succesful but when rebooting the system it doesn't load the OS but it comes back to TWRP Recovery mode - WHATEVER I DO. I can't enter the Download -mode at all. I tried hard reseting (Power + Vol - keys), but once again it boots to the TWRP. I can't understand why the TWRP fails to flash the ROM even though it's saying the process was successful. Or maybe this problem is much more internal - and permanent.
After tens of XDA developers' threads I'm writing this here because I'm in need of help. I want to bring my G2 to back in life. I'm out of ideas. Can you help me? I tried to flash the stock firmware but guess what happened? The installation failed, and the device booted back to TWRP. So all I'm able to do is to use the TWRP Recovery. I appreciate your help. Thank you.
(Ps. I'm sorry if I break the rules by writing a new thread. My problem just seems to be so unique that I couldn't find help anywhere.)

what twrp version douy you have?

The solution is easy. Download the stock rom for your model and install it with otg cable. The reason cm12 is not booted is because you need jb bootloader or caf bootstacks.

Hi!
I tried to install TWRP version 2.6.6.3, but it fails to flash it so I'm stuck with the version 2.8.7.3. All I'm able to enter is just the recovery mode. I can't enter the download mode so I can't flash the stock firmware.
Currently I'm out of ideas. I can't flash any OS, the TWRP fails everytime and creates errors.
Try flash bumped kernel like lp dorimanx then flash bumped bootstak then lp rom like cloudy or stock. Or google this: lg g2 unbrickable now xda ...that work for me

[RECOVERY] [TWRP 3.0.0-0] for Vodafone Smart Prime 6

1) Download TWRP 3.0.0-0 from the link above and place it on internal storage of your phone.
2) Download Flashify app from Google Play Store.
3) Open Flashify app.
4) Grant root permissions.
5) Click "Recovery image" and then click "Choose a file"
6) Navigate to the folder where you placed TWRP 3.0.0-0 and choose the .IMG file.
7) Press "Yup!" button and wait.
8) After a while the phone will require reboot. So click "reboot" button.
9) Phone will reboot and automatically boot into TWRP, so you can press reboot to system.
10) Enjoy!
Special thanks to Oneb1t for modded .fstab file! :highfive:
edit: you can use Flashfire app too instead of Flashify, but it's not recommended, because the latest version of the Flashfire app is not flashing properly.
Brilliant! Thank you so much! Do you know any custom ROM what is better than the factory ROM?
There is no custom ROM for this phone yet.
But I'm trying to make LITE ROM.

Do you think it's easier/possible to adapt a ROM from a similar device like say, the Alcatel
Pop 2 (5) Premium ? I don't know if there's any ROM for that phone tho, but since it's branded as Alcatel you might get more support from the community here than by using Vodafone's name.
Hello, Demonlord6.
I have tried to make a stock flashable ROM via dumping the system folder and the boot.img file, but without success.
It does not boot properly.. when I tried to flash it without dalvik/system wipe everything was as before.
When I tried to wipe /system and dalvik first and then flash the ROM, it causes bootloop.
So now I'm trying to fix this issue..
I don't know where the problem is.
So when this issue will be solved I will try to build a ROM from Alcatel phones with same specs.

Hey, Andreno306
I don't know much about Rom's in that level of expertise I'm afraid :/ but I did some digging and came across this simple tutorial on XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387941
I imagine it does not work for every single device out there, at least not with modifying stuff after, but it might be a good starting point I think, in fact I would try to actually make one myself had I a working PC currently at home. But even if I did I had no way of testing it because this is currently my daily driver phone.
Just wanted to say that I'm also very interested in getting a slim ROM for this device. I can't offer any expertise I'm afraid! Just wanted to show that there are people interested in your project.

I have one
https://mega.nz/#!tMJD3B4T!f6m2ELYCVupqGCcN2aGbkrNzEqijLu7au-7usEfeVL0
But I recommend to restore it with the flashify app, because that's how the backup was made.
If, for some reason, you don't/can't restore it, then you can always try Sugar on the PC which basically restores everything to factory settings (recovery, kernel, etc, it all gets reset)

Sorry for the stupid question but... does it works on Smart Prime 7 too?
Has anyone installed that linked ROM? It seems to be what we are looking for... a slim debloated rom.
I presume we need to be rooted, install this TWRP, then flash that ROM?
It mentions unlocking the bootloader, I dont think I've seen any info anywhere about unlocking the bootloader.
Can anyone give a quick lowdown on all the steps required to install that ROM please?
Hi everyone, I discovered that Elephone Trunk and Smart Prime 6 have (almost) identical specs: https://www.devicespecifications.com...ison/c584481c6
So it would be great to "port" (or build ?) the official Nougat-OmniROM for Trunk to VF-895N: http://dl.omnirom.org/trunk/
Last but not least, here's official Vodafone Smart Prime 6 sources: Vodafone_Smart_prime_6_20150413.tar.xz
TWRP for vodafone smart max 4 990N (coolpad 8890u).
I tried this recovery image for vodafone smart max 4 990N (coolpad 8890u).
The phone is in a bootloop state. I think i have usb debugging enabled already.
So, in fastboot mode i can see the device in my pc in adb fastboot cmd.
Im trying to ''fastboot boot recovery.img" but it stops in ''booting..''.
Dont know whats the problem but for sure i can not find a specific twrp image for this device.
If i enter fastboot oem device-info it says ''(bootloader) Device unlocked: true''.
Any ideas ?
hi i was wondering if you could share how you did this or if you can make one for the Vodafone smart n9 (VFD720) it would help a lot of people out looking for this
Needed to root a Vodafone Smart Prime 6 (VF 895N) (got it from a friend because it became unresponsive from all the updated google play stuff ) to get linux-deploy running. Just wanted to leave a big thank you here for Adreno306 for his TRWP 3.0.0-0. it did the job very well!
Only the procedure to get it installed differed quite a bit for me, since Flashify is no longer available.
I wanted to preserve boot and just flash trwp to recover, what worked quite well.
The first thing I did was to boot the phone manually in recovery mode (Power+Vol up) and reset it to factory settings from there. It takes a little while. Then follow the setup, go to phone settings, enable developer mode and set usb debugging. If "unlock oem" is not available there, reboot into recovery again, set unlock there and reboot into bootloader.
The prerequisites are adb and fastboot, both must work. Means adb devices and fastboot devices must show the phone. What can make problems under win10 as it sometimes does not detect the phone in bootloader mode. An actual google usb driver is needed, as provided by google.
For me adb worked well, but when rebooted into bootloader with adb reboot bootloader, fastboot didnt detect the phone. With the phone still connected, the windows device manager showed an unknown device with and exclamation mark (!). Right click, install driver, select driver manually, select driver from device list, mark all devices (first entry) and click "disk", then point to the usb driver director and select "ADB fastboot driver". ( A more comprehensive description is available here )
Once adb and fastboot detect the device, it is time to prepare it. Boot to system (normal operation) first. Make sure that the TRWP 3.0.0-0.img is renamed to trwp.img and then
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot devices
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot boot trwp.img
Now the phone should show the trwp menu, set it up to root the phone and install SuperSU. Reboot into bootloader and
fastboot flash recovery trwp.img
fastboot reboot
Verify with adb reboot recovery, you should see trwp now. Reboot to system.
Now finally go into the app selector, start SuperSU, and root the phone. SuperSu uses trwp recovery mode to install its image and root is done.
Again, big thanks for providing the TRWP image!

Blocked on "Please lock the bootloader" screen A2017G

Hi guys,
First, English isn't my first language so, sorry if it hurts your eyes :/
Second, I'm new to TWRP / root etc... (since yesterday) and I don't fully understand the exact meening of all words like flash / rom etc...
So: I'm actually blocked in the "Your device can't be checked for corruption. Please lock the bootloader". Apparently it's a normal screen now, when we boot we always see this. OK ( at least that's what I read)
My volume keys aren't doing anything and I can't access my phone anymore.
I can access TWRP if I want.
Thx for responding :good:
Adb & fastboot still recognize your device ?
If yes flash twrp as recovery with fastboot and boot into it with fastboot.

How can I know if ADB recognize my phone?
I can access TWRP so I don't need to flash it again ? Is there a difference between just flash TWRP and flash TWRP with fastboot ?
Sry, my bad, i miss read that you can access twrp, sry, I thought you can't, what happens if you flash a rom, which twrp is installed, what were your steps that you end stuck on bootloader message ?
Edit: if your issue is that you don't know how to start flashing, read the Los thread and follow the op.
Instructions:
1. Install the Universal bootloader and your model specific modem.Failure to do so will not allow flashing the ROM!
2. Update recovery [Recommended -> Official TWRP for Axon7
3. Factory reset if coming from another ROM.
4. Install ROM
5. Install GApps (optionally) [Recommended -> Open GApps (arm64) (7.1) 2017-02-01 or Newer
Download all files from the thread and put them on to your microsdcard, if your twrp is up to date you don't have to do this again. Flash the zip files in the order of the instructions, just press install at twrp and choose the zips, you can add multiple and flash them together.
Man, trust me, I'm not a lazy man and all I want is to have my phone back even if it's stock
I don't understand what you're trying to make me do, sincerely
If you can give me a link where I can have a guide steps by steps or make this guide for me that would be the best thing of my day...
... I really need to wait wtf
update: I wipe all my phone data

I really don't know your issue, except you seem not to read enough. What guide you want ? How I flash a custom rom to my phone ? How to use twrp ?Why you unlocked your bootloader ? How did you manage to have the stock recovery back ?
I have to guess what you want and what you already did . If you need a guide, here are severals in the guide section.

So you are stuck with stock recovery and not TWRP? If so I would find a guide to "flash" or install TWRP in what is called EDL mode.
If you can do that, you then need to:
boot directly into TWRP and wipe dalvik, system, data, and cache.
Then install universal boot loader and modem for your device. (A2017G)
Next install latest TWRP img found on https://TWRP.me
And lastly reboot into recovery again and install Rom (version of Android you want to try) and any other modifications you want (kernel, gapps, magisk, etc.)
If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask. Good luck!

What? You can flash the ROM after flashing the universal bootloader, then also flash TWRP via itself, and you'll stay on the latest...

I am not 100% sure what you are saying. But yeah, sure. Flash the Rom after the universal bootloader and modem. Then flash twrp. Then reboot.
If you think that is better for OP then that works. I haven't ever had the problem of rebooting to recovery without a rom installed but you're right that it probably is safer.
I only suggested that because the TWRP that comes with the real old universal bootloader on LOS thread is also very old. So, flashing a rom with the new version I thought would be best to avoid errors. Thanks!

The thing is, after you flash the universal bootloader, the TWRP on the sd gets replaced. but the TWRP that you are using is loaded in RAM. So even if you install a TWRP version you'll stay in the version you flashed before until you reboot. If you install the universal bootloader and then install the TWRP img you'll keep everything as-is on the next reboot. I discourage rebooting without a system especially on a G because any interruption might lock the phone in DFU. On an a2017U that wouldn't be a problem because the phone boots into edl if any software error is present

Bootloop after uninstalling Xposed + Firmware upgrade encountered issue

Hello,
I'm really desperate right now and would highly appreciate your help.
The background is the following:
several months ago I've flashed Cyanogenmod 13 on my Note 3 (N9005) using TWRP (via Odin). The system has been working perfectly. In addition, I was using Xposed (Version 89) without any problems. However I decided to uninstall Xposed today using its uninstaller, but I only got a error message ( I don't remember its content, it was saying something like ' can't rename... /lib'.
Well, I then tried uninstalling via recovery which resulted in a bootloop.
I watched some YT-videos explaining how to bypass Xposed in TWRP, so I went to download mode and tried installing the TWRP with stock_kernel_twrp_1120-signed-for_Odin (the file I used the first time). This step failed. After restarting my phone it's saying: 'Firmware upgrade encountered issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again'.
I don't know what to do now. I simply want to install a working TWRP to save all my files and recover from the bootloop. What matters the most to me is to recover all data on the phone (videos, pictures, files etc. which unfortunately I haven't backed up).
I'm able to access download mode (home/power/volume down) but I don't know what to do to get a recovery/TWRP.
I'm not doing anything right to avoid further harm and wait for your advice. I'd be most grateful if you could help me.
Thanks in advance!

Flash TWRP 2.8.7.0 via ODIN.
if this works, then backup everything from recovery immediately.
here is the link (if you need).

Now Flash a new kernel. look over here at xda for your need.
then reboot and check. pls have patience if it took long while first boot.
and pls tell if it works.

Thank you very much for your help.
I've just flashed twrp-2.8.7.0-hlte-4.4.img.tar successfully, but when trying to access recovery (volume up/home/power) it's stuck in the Samsung logo saying:
'RECOVERY BOOTING....
RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING
Set Warranty Bit: recovery"
What to do now?
I've found different kernels:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...nt/kernel-idlekernel-leankernel-fork-t3241582
and
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/development/temasek-kernel-t3395437
Which should I choose for N9005/Cyanogenmod 13? I have no idea due to lacking knowledge.
[Hlte][Purify][25.02.17][CM13.0]. sounds appropriate to me? Could you please give me an advice? Thank you!
Ok, flashing both twrp-2.8.7.0-ha3g.tar and then twrp-2.8.7.0-hlte-4.4.img.tar resulted in the herein before mentioned problem (stuck on Samsung logo).
I now flashed successfully n9005-cwm-recovery-6.0.4.4 and it's backed up everything.
I then tried uninstalling xposed via recovery with the uninstaller.zip on sdcard, but got this error message:
mv: can't rename '/system/lib/libart.so.o
rig': No such file or directory
E: Error in /data/media/0/Android/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/cache/downloads/framework/xposed-uninstaller-20180117-arm.zip
Any ideas how to fix it? Or do you recommend wiping everything and flashing a new ROM (e.g. MagMa NX ROM)?

FOR THIS ONE ....
i think you need to pull battery out just after successfully flashing TWRP 2.8.7.0
when ODIN flashes recovery and says passed. pull out battery immediately. don't let the phone boot/start. wait 10-20 seconds. re-insert battery and try now booting in TWRP.

H918 Stuck on secure startup "decryption unsuccessful" on boot

after doing this https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/step-step-guide-lg-v20-h918-unlocking-t3808258
and finally installing a stock based rom, which is Alpha Omega Rom. I get stuck at secure startup and telling that decryption unsuccessful. I tried it with other stock based rom like a prerooted one but the result are still the same. I am never new to this problem and usually this get solved by going to twrp and wiping data(the one you have to type yes) but it did not solve this problem. Really need help badly.

it seems youre trying to flash a new twrp image that is higher than the allowed 3.2.3-4 in the root process,go to fastboot mode reflash twrp image 3.2.3-4 or an older one.If that's not the issue please provide more information

Where does it exactly say that I cannot flash anything higher than 3.2.3-4. All it says is to download the latest twrp from https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-0-t3720239
Do you have a link to 3.2.3-4? It seems like 3.2.3-5 is the lowest twrp I could find in Phoenix591's android filehost https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=235271
edit: while waiting for responses, I went ahead and installed unofficial LOS15 then I was able to boot without any problem. It seem like this will only happen with stock/stock based roms.

You should flash latest after installing this one by installing recovery img in TWRP i am telling you cause i have tried 3.2.3-5+ with the dirty santa process for my phone and thats the message i was getting unless downgrading to 3.2.3-4
Also decryption is unsuccessful comes as a result of not formatting data on twrp after the first install of twrp but you said that you did format data so i thought you were trying to flash newer twrp via the root process of the H918

do you have 3.2.3-4? I couldn't find it anywhere unfortunately
edit:already solved it by using 3.2.3-0/1 from official twrp website. but the problem is that i get 0mb storage on internal storage on TWRP. I am not exactly new to this problem but even after flashing no verity op encryption zip. I still get it. sigh.

Yes me too, and it almost make me crazy back in the days ?
the solution (at least for now) is downgrade TWRP it into v3.2.3-4. flash it via adb fastboot command, format data, then reboot. But sorry i dont have TWRP for H918, becoz im using F800L.. and since your TWRP has been nuked, youll have to reflash TWRP again yes? ?
Or, if youbdont want to downgrade TWRP, you can use AOSP based rom such as LOS15.1.. i already tried that rom and it dont have problem with encrypt/decrypt thing like stock based rom.

Thank you so much, no wonder i wasn't able to find v3.2.3-4 because it's labeled as the release date. What does the sim unlock do? I mean, I can receive messages and stuff but just not get any once in awhile. Will this actually solve that?

About sim unlock, Actually I dont know for sure because in f800l we dont seeing any sim problem at all.. but in my opinion just download it, in case you seeing problem with locked sim after flashing, it will be very useful..
anyway, i found a thread that discussing about h918 sim unlock thing

Thanks, I will try going back to stock roms and will report back to you.
And I forgot to mention that I already got twrp fixed after it got nuked. Sadly, I don't think fastboot flashing works on h918 so I had to do lafsploit method to flash twrp again.

Where? Right in the portion where it says Known Issues of the first link.
Downgrading TWRP to 3.2.3-4 will fix it. I had the same issue.
Thanks for the notes. Unfortunately this did not work for me. I ended up in this position after updating Magisk to 20.2, or trying to. My H918 went to being stuck in the fastboot mode. I was able to get to TWRP, and reinstalled H91820h.zip, but then faced with "Decryption unsuccessful" I downgraded TWRP to twrp-3.2.3-0, and deleted everything except the external microsd card, reinstalled H91820h.zip, but still stuck at the "Decryption unsuccessful". Are there other things I should try?
Thanks,
Rob

From TWRP thread:
Changed one last thing to try to fix stock Oreo decryption.
There were an upstream TWRP change that should fix the issue where formatting was still leaving /data encrypted as well (this was actually in the last build, but I didn't notice it then)

If you still have your non-Encryption-supporting TWRP as download mode, wipe data from there. For some reason which was documented in the TWRP thread, most versions of V20 TWRP doesn't remove the encryption flag even on a full wipe. I've gone through the pain several times, but here's roughly what I went through about a month ago. It's possible that using the latest TWRP may allow you to skip straight to step 8. As of this latest wipe, I'm finally at a point again where my phone works properly and TWRP can still see my data.
Basic process to hopefully have a working ongoing phone and TWRP:
1. Reboot to download-mode TWRP
2. Wipe dalvik/cache/data from the older download-mode TWRP
3. Factory reset with YES, still in older download-mode TWRP
4. Reboot to system; it should give you the new-system-setup past the Decryption unsuccessful screen on your wiped device
5. Setup without a Google account or fingerprint
6. Reboot back to recovery, not download TWRP; use download mode to get there if you need to
7. Flash the latest TWRP version from the thread (no older than October 25, 2019)
8. Reboot back to recovery
9. Wipe dalvik/cache/data
10. Reboot back to system
11. Setup as you like
12. Reboot back to recovery and make sure you can see your storage
If it gets a decryption error on latest TWRP at step 12 and you can't see data while in Recovery, try skipping adding a fingerprint during setup (run through steps 8-12, no fingerprint on 11) and see if that fixes it.

My solution turned out to be formatting /data. Wiping it was apparently not really wiping it clean. Formatting it got me back to a working phone, though I had to re-install everything.
Thanks everyone for the help!
