I have seen this discussed somewhere on these forums. From what I recall,
1) The LED is a single colour - white
2) For those who've got it to come on for notifications, so far it is "solid on" only - no blinking/flashing.
I know we have Moto Display, but you still have to be very near the phone to get that to work.
At the moment, my phone is on a worktop just a few feet away from me. With my Xperia Z2 I would have been able to look over and see a blue flashing light for notifications. Not so with the Moto.
When I bought this phone, it just didn't occur to me that, in 2015, a manufacturer would make a "smart"phone without a notification LED as standard

I agree 100%. This is something that let me down about the phone once I received it. Otherwise I'm thoroughly impressed and happy with it. Moto Display isn't that great and Ambient Display is unable to utilize 3 of the Moto Sensors or low-power whatsamacallits and has a hard time with pick-up / proximity wake as well.

Light flow works well.
Like others have said, you only have a solid white led however. I'm fine with it. I have light flow only to turn on led for missed calls and texts.

As far as i know TruPureX does not have LED notification support...
I'm using it (Version 2.3) and it doesn't have it.
From what i heard, AICP does support it but i didn't try
Moto LED Enabler by Ton Souza is a free bare bones app that appears to have been overlooked. Like some of the other apps mentioned, it turns on a solid LED upon notification from a white-listed app. The only requirement is that your phone is ROOTED. Although there were a few hiccups in configuring the notification white-list, it does do the job and I am happy with it overall.
There are a couple of other alternatives which do not require root, and control the front facing LED camera flash (including blinking). These include Flash Alerts 2 and J7Beta.

so excited Samsung included it. I missed led on previous versions.
I have blue light for missed calls/messages, and red light for missed calendar events.
I do have to find out if there is a way I can turn the led light off in tasker. I have a night profile where everything is turned off/down, but last night the led was flashing for some emails. Just tend to notice things like that during the night.

I think that is natural for the led to turn off to save battery in the android os. For example my hox will turn the led notification off after 5 or sp minutes.

I'm not sure how much battery life it would save. I know all HTC's shuts off after 5 mins. Motorola, Sony Ericsson and the Galaxy Nexus keeps blinking until you check your missed events. I haven't noticed any difference in battery life with the led notification light blinking overnight compared to a HTC.
If you want the led notification light to blink for more than 5 mins, try Light Flow. Great app.
Light Flow app is really cool..
I havent seen any or probably havent searched that hard, but I'm surprised I havent seen any of the reviews I've seen mention this.
Its very similar to the galaxy nexus with a soft glow.
I posted this vid in another thread, but it's the notification led on the Optimus G. You can assume that the led light used on the Optimus G is probably going to be the same one on the Nexus 4, just in a different location.

I really hope it looks like that. That has a resemblance to the Blackberry notification light, which looks a lot less subtle and therefore more likely to capture your attention than the Galaxy nexus.

I'd assume the same thing if they were in the same position, but since (afaik) the 4's led is in the lower part, so there is still a good chance its different. Though of course, its still more likely to be like the G's than like another random led light.
Edit: oops, i was late, and said less
It should looks like this: http://www.mobiletechblog.it/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Nexus4Led.jpg
I guess there is a frame where you can see the led in the first video that Google made for the release.

Nice. I missed that some how. So happy for this. I hate not having notification light.
now the question is.....where the hell on the phone is the led?? and does RGB mean it only get those 3 colors??
It means all colors but from what I understand, it won't be used for notification by the stock system. Apps like light flow would be required.

Some apps will have the option to notify using the LED such as whatsapp.
Others may not. Which is where LightFlow comes into it's own.
I see marketing photos with, in my opinion, aod, but then no words about in reviews or in NYC event.
So, does 6t have always on display with time, notification icons, weather maybe? Why OnePlus excluded this info under specs...?
There’s no AOD.
Just an improved ambient display with few more option like pick up the phone or tap the screen and shown ambient display.

Agreed! My damn g5 had this. I mean come on
I turned it off on my pixel 2 just to adapt to it before getting the op6t. You just have to double tap to bring the screen up. It's not optimal but you don't have to pick up your phone just to see notifications.
On the other hand if you're far away that's a different story. Either way I'd still order AOD to no AOD.

Yes, they did on OnePlus 6 Oreo, but not yet on Pie
I heard the Magisk module prevents the phone from going into deep sleep so if that is the case, Magisk is not an option.
I don't know much about AOD, but doesn't it prevent deep sleep on all other devices?
With root and the correct rro framework overlay in vendor, we could theoretically have it working. I got it working on the essential, which doesn't offer it either by porting the file from a gsi.
wouldnt AOD cause screen burnin with the op6t since the fingerprint sensor logo is static?
