I purchased the phone from T-Mobile with the intention of using it in China. All the functions work on China Mobile, but the best Internet I can get through the cellular network is Edge (horribly slow). It has not been rooted. Can I flash a ROM, root it, or do I need to change cellular providers? Any help is appreciated. I love this phone and loathe the idea of having to switch to (and pay for) an iPhone.
Thanks,
Andrew

I want to bring my phone and use it in Poland, it's running newest CyanogenMod and at this point it is clean. From what I was told, 3G may be incompatible so the phone will default to EDGE, which is fine as I don't plan to use overpriced data and stick to wifi. I wonder if there are any G1 users from Poland or Europe using either native devices or imported from states.
Just want to know what I need before I take the phone to Europe. Thanks.
This is what you should do, contact t-mobile and request an unlock code and before you go to Poland write it down then when you are in Poland get a prepaid phone (with a sim card) then put the sim in your phone and enter the unlock code, this case you don't have to spend roaming charges and you might have better reception.

That's the plan, I already unlocked the phone and reflashed it, works fine with AT&T, should work fine with anything else, I hope
I had my T-Mobile G1 imported from the US this spring. Works like a charm here in Germany. So I guess there shouldn't be anything to worry about when taking it to Poland.
There's no 3G incompatibility. It will work as long as you have correct APN settings.
I recommend getting a plus gsm (mixplus) card. From what I could tell (I don't speak Polish, so I had to do some guessing) they have best prepaid mobile internet rates.
There's absolutely no problem with using a US TMobile-branded G1 here in Poland. I was worried about that too when i was about to get one from the US, but after some research it turned out that there shouldn't be any problems. And there weren't any. Personally tested it with orange, play and mbank mobile (virtual operator using plusGSM infrastructure).
3G (i wszystko) inne działa jak należy, więc bez obaw

Picked up my Tablet yesterday from T-Mobile. Connected to the web etc using Wi-Fi because I had lots of software to download. Could NOT get any data with my sim card.
I am grandfathered into a data package with T-Mobile which gives me Unlimited Data for $19.99 plus a voice package. Support told me that for this tablet to work I had to upgrade to their Web Connect package for $39.95 and I would NOT have voice. [because they INSIST voice is IMPOSSIBLE with the Galaxy Tab.] [whatever]
I didn't want to agree to their upgrade because my sim works PERFECT in my Dell Streak 5 .. I believe that there is something wrong with the Gal-Tab. I kept telling them that the internet net was the same in their web connect package, it was just more expensive. They told me I was wrong. So I said .. OK make the change. They did and 12 hours later I still cannot connect.
I contacted them this morning and got them to give me my OLD $19.99 internet package and voice back ..
SO .. Any ideas ?? I even tried changing the APN on the Samsung to the same as on my streak. My streak is epc.mobile.com .. the Samsung had it as epc.tmobile.com
I had an issue with my data when I first got my tab too - the support personnel signed me up for an incorrect data package and all I got was a redirect to a Tmobile page when trying to use the browser (and no data on any other apps).
After talking to Support they changed my data package and voila, it worked.
So what's going on - unfortunately T-Mobile US filters Galaxy Tab's by IMEI. As such, they completely block it from working on any plan other than the data plan built for it. Despite the fact that the tab is technically capable of being a phone, T-Mobile will not allow it on their network.
So your telling me when I get my galaxy tab if I pop in my wifes T Mobile sim it wont work. That is truly annoying.
Instead of getting a new data package I am going to just pay the 10 a month to add mobile hot spot to her phone which will work great (maybe even faster because she has 4G on her phone)
THANKS .. I hate T-Mobile but have been with them for 8 years .. I guess I have just learned to put up with their NONSENSE !!
Since Dell Streak 5 came from AT&T Tmo does not have records and treats it as a smartphone. The same will be true for the Galaxy Tab purchased from AT&T. You will be able to get data and even voice using other Tmo Sim after reflashing proper firmware.
But since these two carriers use different frequencies for 3G you would get only EDGE.
It is hard for us to understand rational for such decisions. It seems that they are loosing Tab sales. Why do European carriers find it profitable while US not?
there is a way to get both voice+data on the tab using a standard t-mobile sim with data+voice. 1-you need to flash an European ROM to get voice and 2-then there is the issue of the IMEI which blocks the tab from accessing the web with a sim that already has data.
the second part cant really be posted as i was already removed by the mods due to rules violations, but it can be done i am using my Vibrants SIM on the tab.
Sounds like someone failed to do their homework. T-mo Tab is suppose to be data-only device and utilizes different APN's with custom modem firmware then smartphones, hence why your SIM would not work. You need to root the Tab, flash Euro firmware, then flash a custom modem. Instructions can be found in the development forum. Also, keep in mind that flashed T-Mo Tab can only get EDGE, no 3G.

That's not correct! You can get 3g data with your T-Mobile sim card with the correct modem. Just use roto-modem switcher

I think all our posts can confuse anyone.
The question was about using Tmobile smartphone Sim with the Tmobile Tab.
Let me say this: there is no way to get legitimely both voice and data on Tmo network using Tmo Sim. You can get voice without cellular data, or 3G data with different modem and separately paid broadband service Sim not the smartphone Sim.
I put my Sim card from my MyTouch 4G on the Tablet and phone works n/p but you need to flash a Euro rom! Thats it bottom line! Flash The rom and you will have phone access
I have a Note 3 (sm-n9005, Android 4.3) and my service provider is T-Mobile (Hungary). According to T-Mobile customer service if the GPRS on the phone can't connect directly to a Satellite, the software sifts to the t-mobile which, of course, costs me money. Is there any way of stopping that from happening? T-Mobile will be delighted to sell me a package but it's expensive enough as is.
If you have an idea or suggestion, I'd appreciate your sharing.

GPRS is the name of 2-3G data cellular packet service, and as such it NEVER "connects to satellite". You probably want to say GPS, which is something slightly different
From what I have seen on Note 3 the GPS module is a little trickier - see this thread for more details:

I am curious if the modems and radios will be compatible when switching my TMobile SGH-M919 from Simple Mobile to H20 that I understand runs on the ATT network. I'm having difficulty unlocking my phone as the processes listed on here do not work so I paid an online service for instructions. When I get them I'd like to switch. Also I'm curious why my Simple Mobile SIM works in the phone without unlocking and the H20 won't. I imagine it is because it is a TMobile phone and Simple runs on their network but thought I would ask to be sure. I look forward to any response I get. Thanks in advance!
Hello guys,
I really need your help. My father bought me a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge SM-G9350 in China but in Germany I cannot use the mobile data function. Everytime when I am trying to activate it nothing happens and I do not get a connection to the german mobile networks. Though I still can use the normal phone calling function. Do you guys know where the problem is? Do I have to install another firmware?
My S7 Edge is a dual-sim model with the model number G9350ZHU2APE3.
Thank you for your help
PS: I live in Germany thats why I need the access to the german mobile networks. I have also normal access to Play Store and Google Apps are pre-installed
