Menu button for older apps - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, is a way for me to pull up the menu button or context menu ?
I have an old app that I need to access the settings with the menu button however I'm dying to figure this out.

Buy an Amazon Fire TV Stick remote and pair it. $15

Such a shame the Newer amazon control with the mic doesn't work..
Quite like using the mic for search.

Thanks

Thanks very much for clearing it up.
I'll go and try and source one now in the UK

I think your confusing different remotes.
Firetv stick remote - works
1st gen bluetooth firetv remote - does not work.
2nd gen WiFi direct firetv remote - works great. Even the voice search works. (needs to be paired via shield accessories and not bluetooth as it uses WiFi direct)
Hope this helps clear things up.

What the hell is a clear usb!? You're talking nonsense. As said, the A500 has an internal WiFi radio, so can connect to any access point for internet access.
Do you mean a USB 3G adapter, by any chance? If so, not with a stock ROM. Some custom ROMs do support this.

You can't use the tablet as an actual phone. Best you can do is VOIP software like Skype.

You need to remember that this forum has users from around the world and probably most users have no idea what Clear (as company) is. The question was ubiquitous, which you can see as everyone except you thought that he is asking about clear usb thumb drive or something.
derrickmd18 was also asked about clarification and the answer was still hard to understand.
Ok folks, let's not make something out of nothing. I wouldn't go so far as "attacking" somebody
Personally I was a little puzzled as well initially.
But to the answer, things are ify-ify when choosing USB 3 or 4g sticks. There's no promises it will work with your tab. Not unless somebody else has verified this. Also to mention, currently you have to run a PPP app I believe, to get a 3g stick to work. So this will now depend on if it's compatible with the app.
Best bet, make sure the stick has a "money back" option if it doesn't work.
The a500 does not have a GSM radio, so thus, it can't function as a GSM device. Will be Data only.
MD
Ok. Because u can use the internet from my phone on it. But was looking at the 4g usb stick as a solution for use it as a phone. I was going to setup a phone number through skype and use that for calls and txt. I was looking at there usb sticks but called and that said they actually have a better option which is a stand alone hotspot device which has a battery and last for 5 hours off charge and uses the cigaret socket to recharge it. I have boost mobile now but I figured instead of me having internet at home through comcast I might as well pay the same thing for it on the go. I had clear a year ago and it was I think 4 or 6mb a second. I know it runs off sprint winmax network. I was going to get a sprint galaxy s2 flash it to boost and use the clear modem numbers on that for winmax but figured this was a better solution.

[Q] Best Bluetooth receiver for car

I'm looking for a bluetooth receiver for my car. Ideally both A2DP + HFP but beggars can't be choosers and I'd settle for just A2DP.
So I've spent several hours on Amazon reading reviews, but I wanted to know if anyone here is having great success using a particular adapter with their Nexus 4 in their car.
Please let me know!
Currently I'm looking at these two devices (a2dp only):

I will be interested to see if you can get Bluetooth to work. I am sure the TI chipset
has Bluetooth enabled. Respond with your results.
Well all I have tried to do is install it but keeps saying failed. Wondering if maybe it's an authentication thing. Will have to see if I can edit the all and 're compile it. If I find out why, anyone with a little bit more experience and wisdom than me feel free to pitch in

willieboya,
Another idea is to contact TI, find out if the enable Bluetooth on that board. There are a number
of Android utilities that probe the motherboard, one is JFDP Labs Android Hardware
Info, you can get it on Google Play. Ahhh, I should have known this, you do not have the
XML installed, so the Kernel will not initialize it. I have attached the update to this thread
or you can download it here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/54456659/Bluetooth%281%29.zip
Here we go, first unzip it, then copy:
Bluetooth.apk to /system/app
Bluetooth.odex to /system/app
Bluetooth folder to /system/etc
android.harware.bluetooth.xml to /system/etc/permissions
Reboot the Kindle.

We just got a response from TI, "Bluetooth and Dolby are disabled at the hardware level on the Kindle Fire 2 7"
There is no way to enable these features on the Kindle Fire 2, period".

Willieboya,
No, it has been disabled at the TI board, thus they probably did not install the required Bluetooth
Transmitter and Receiver with antenna. The dongle idea may work, we are working on USB drivers
for both the Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire 2, IF we get these drivers functional, there will be
Bluetooth support. Our development team is looking to see if Amazon has the necessary
communication to the motherboard - my development team believes everything is there,
so look for a driver within the next 4 to 6 months. We spend a large amount of the time
Quality testing our drivers, so this is the reason for the delay. Next, when you say
"sky go" do you mean the Sky Go Launcher?
No sky go is in uk for streaming sky television to android devices. The app can install on kindle fire but when you click on a tv station it says the device is not supported. Obviously sky hasn't been developing for tablets thus the reason for not being supported but just wondering if any devs would be able to adapt it to suit our kindle

Just curious why it says this chip has Bluetooth capability then? Did they actually modify the chip to not work or is it that it needs kernel drivers to work. Just wondering because they did manage to get Bluetooth going on a kindle fire 1st gen but the range was really bad like 3 inches max

rockystar000,
Great question! The TI OMAP4430 chipset includes Bluetooth through the TI WiLink.
I suspect Amazon has TI build a "custom WiLink" excluding the Bluetooth connectivity. Now, either way, the
Core OMAP4430 does have Bluetooth, GPS and FM Radio connectivity and communication paths. Having said
this, we would be able to initialize the Bluetooth through software but without the TI WiLink, I am not sure it
would work. I suspect we will drill down the answer in the next 6 months, when our developers have less to
do. Right now our developers are focusing on other options on the Kindle Fire. Maybe someone else will
have better luck.

I have attached a copy of the Sky Go application to this response. There is a problem with

No, the version on the play store was NOT for the s4. It wasn't compatible ( not sure about now, however, i said that a while back and things could have changed by now. ). I later realized that the app just doesn't have the alternate Directv remote code sets that you use if you have more than one box in the same location. Hopefully, they can add those.
