Should I use exfat or NTFS for a 64gb sd card?
What's the pros and cons of each?
Thanks!
Would NTFS even work? As far as I know, exFAT is the way to go for cards > 32GB.
Neither

I'm using EXT4 for my Note 10.1 v2014 tablet because it's multi-core compatible.

hi all
i inserted a 4gb sd card into the dock slot. it was taken straight out of a Canon Powershot S5IS...and it didn't work
havent tried other sd cards
havent checked what format the card is in
i did try rebooting the transformer
did try undocking and then redocking
so hows sd card compatibility? what are your experiences?
i think it only reads it in FAT format.
It reads FAT32 from the miniSD port.
The SD Card Reader on the right side will read FAT and FAT32 formats but it wont read NTFS (for now).
Try putting your SD Card into your pc (if you can), then right click on it and select properties to see how its been formatted.
Mark.

The dock's SD card reader will and does read NTFS. It has since day one on stock or custom kernels............. Guess what it reads SDXC Sd cards too..........

@OP: I know you know but just in case. If/when you format, you will lose everything on the card.
well thank you guys. seems im the only one with sd card issues lol
im just going to have to try changing formats and try formatting..
i just presumed that a sd card pulled out of an older digicam would be in fat32 haha

I hope it works for you. I did test with 3 cards, two old Sandisk (1GB & 2GB) and a new Sandisk 64GB SDXC. They all worked with FAT32 and NTFS and on stock and custom kernels, but I've seen some people having some problems with certain cards and classes of cards. Please post your findings. Good Luck
I got the following cards:
Transcend Secure Digital 64GB SDXC SDXC, SD 3.0, Class 10
Lexar MicroSDHC Card 32GB w/USB reader Class 10, High speed SDHC card with USB reader
The dock reads the SD card formated to NTFS fine (have not tryed to format it to another filesystem)
But the MicroSD card in the tablett itselfe only reads FAT32, and not exFAT or NTFS.
But there are several of You that got tablets that read Your MicroCD cards that are formated to NTFS?

Allow me:
http://www.tuxera.com/partners/operating-systems/ (NTFS, exFAT and HFS+)
and
http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/EeePAD/TF101/TF101_Full_0418d.pdf (page 45 "Tuxera software provides support for NTFS format.")
Considering it actually allowed me to read an HFS+ usb stick....
So, unless there is some weird implementation, it should read those file systems also from the SD card reader.
ext3,ext4 is also supported.
I just tried NTFS on the MicroSD and it was a no go for me. I also tried ext3,ext4 (I'm somewhat new linux ) and that didn't work for me either. That could be me lol. So only FAT32 work for me on the MicroSD
On the SDcard. I could only get FAT32 and NTFS to work.
I tried this with stock .9 (3.0.1), 8.4.4.5 and 8.4.4.7 (3.1). Then with Prime 1.4 (3.1).
The cards I tried:
MicroSD: 3 - Sandisk 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB. I think the classes are 4, 4 and 2
SDcards: 3 - Sandisk 1GB, 2GB, and 64GB SDXC
I'm not saying the other filing systems don't work. I'm just posting what i tried.

Good to read that it's not only me that got problems with the MicroSD card not being willing to work witht he NFTS filesystem.
I recon this is something that Asus can fix with an firmwareupdate?
Anyone tried with USB sticks and external harddrives on NTFS file system?
I gues it should not be any dirrefence between A USB stick and an external HD
wow..
im going to give my problem sd card another go this weekend
well the first thing i plugged in was actually my external hdd. this was just a cheap enclosure with fake "VAIO" lettering on it. it relies on a erm...driver(?) called "USB to IDE Bridge" whenever it's plugged into Windows.
worked flawlessly
interesting...
my Sandisk 4gb SDHC simply refuses to work in NTFS
im guessing this is a problem between different card manufacturer and file system combo
but i can't prove it as i don't have too many sd cards lying around.
well at least i'm glad my sd card works now. i shoved it back into the camera formatted as FAT and the cam can use it just fine.
I'm pretty sure I did copy some files over to the MicroSD card when I hade formated it to NTFS before I tryed it on the TF
Not sure now tho so I will do a new test.
But if I am correct it got nothing to do with the card and the filesystem, rather with the TF and filesystems on different card-slots wich I find strange that they let it read one filesystem in one place and not in another place on the tablett.
I have a micro sd 16 gb class 2 and micro sd 32 gb class 4, what are the partitions that android will read and what are the advantages of one over another.
My transformer is running prime 1.5 and blades v 16 kernal.
i was using fat 32 until i tried putting a video on it and changing to nfts, does android support an sd card having linux or mac partitions?
the same with app to sd stuff and does that have to be certain partitions or not

Android is Linux so it should be able to support FAT32, FAT, exFAT, ext2, ext3, ext4, NTFS, other stuff..
I would go with FAT32!
fat 32 wont allow a file over 4gb, which is why i want to switch. i tried nfts and ext3 on my sd card and my transformer wouldn't recognize it. The kernel also said nfts support which is weird?

Oh, right! Try FAT32's successor: exFAT! it supports a file of up to 16 exabytes I believe! Try finding an SD card that beat that file system! Plus, it will work for any OS!
So today I bought a 32 GB sd card for my S4 and I'm pretty sure it's exFAT formatted. I've ordered another card, though, a 64 GB one from Sandisk (class 10 UHS-I) which I definitely know is exFAT formatted.
Question is: Will the exFAT file system be supported in aosp roms for the i9505? On aosp roms for the i9300, it was not, and the cards had to be formatted to e.g. FAT32 or ext4.

It varies as it depends on the kernel, so I have understood. So check the first posts of rom and kernel threads.

If you want the phone to recognize the 32 and the 64GB sdcards they must be formatted FAT32.
Good luck with it.
You can try the new Adam Kernel 1.3.3 with exfat support.

Hi, is it possible for our TN 7 to have exFAT support?
My SD CARD don't work with FAT32, NTFS or EXT4 fs, I tried to fromat it from Linux and Windows as well, always some problems.

You may need to do a full format of the partition table.
Format sdcard in MSDOS then make fat32 partition. For any modern memory or storage, use GPT format and then make partitions to suit. Partitions are best in fat32 or ext4.
GParted is a partition manger GUI for Linux that should do the job.
Any update on this?
Does the TN7 support exFat formatted sd-cards or only Fat32. Would be quite a bummer ... due to the 4gb file-size limitation exFAT or NTFS (not happening for sure) would be highly prefered.
Edit (i think i found the official answer)
w_w_w.evga.com/support/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=59464
Well ... bummer!
Is there a possibility to add exFAT support through other means? A modded ROM maybe? Or a "patch"? (i read that there is something for the Galaxy S3 with CM10.1 and that CM11 supports exFAT from the start.)

I tried for a while with different apps to get another file system to work, but never could get it figured out. No matter what I did, fat32 is the only thing I could get to work.

Use "Bootice" by "www.ipauly.com" to format the sd card to FAT,FAT32,NTFS. Or you can try some another windows utility to format (I think your windows right click format fn is not working properly.) There are various options to choose, choose "partition editor -> your sd card -> create partition table as USB-HDD" option. This will recreate the partition table of the sd card.
I have tested exFAT with TN7, but it doesn't work. FAT,FAT32,NTFS work. I think EXT2/3/4 will not work with sd cards.
If those devices would at least support ext4 on their sd-cards ... just for files >4gb.
Thanks, will try bootice.
TEGRA NOTE 7 compatible micro SD card file system
I bought a 64GB micro SD that the TEGRA NOTE wouldn't read. As it turned out the problem was caused by the exFat file system on the card that the T.N. wouldn't even recognize. NTFS is recognized but it is read only and finally FAT32 is fully recognized, I am now able to read and write on my SD card. I used bootice by Pauly to perform the operations as suggested above, chose "USB-HDD" option and all is OK now.
Samsung Galaxy S4 stock roms support EXFAT on external sdcards (the cards mount just fine).
However, I would like to know if the external sdcard encryption, featured in Samsung stock roms as opposed to aosp roms, also supports EXFAT
I tested the encryption on a EXFAT formatted 2GB microsd card. It didn't work, but this is probably due to the fact that it does not make sense to use EXFAT on a 2GB card. I haven't been able to test on 64GB or 128GB cards yet because I do not own one of these.
I would appreciate your help in this regard. Thanks
