Playing 10bit x265 HEVC on NP with Kodi - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

At the moment HEVC can be played.
However 10bit HEVC won't render video, just a blank screen. I don't know enough about the format to decide if its HW or SW that is the problem. Will it be alleviated with a firmware update or when Kodi gets updated to Jarvis?

If you look at this page http://kodi.wiki/view/Android_hardware you will see that the Nexus Player does not support hardware decoding of HEVC. Which basically means, Kodi relies on FFMPEG to software decode HEVC videos. I know that FFMPEG now supports 10bit HEVC, but it's possible that the FFMPEG library used in the current version of Kodi does not have HEVC 10-bit support yet. It could be available in a future update to Kodi.

Divx playback support through hardware decoding on devices without native support.

As the title says, it is to discuss whether can we add divx playback support through hardware decoding on devices without native support.
The video playback by hardware decoding will be much better than the video playback of the same file by software decoding. Check it on RockPlayer. Our ZTE BLADE can handle pretty decent MP4 files (within WVGA resolution) whereas it cannot handle decent AVI/divx files. These files other than those supported by system player are played with software decoding which is not that good as the same specs files played with hardware decoding. That's where this question arises. Is is possible to support many file types and codecs (AVI, flv, mkv) for system player.
And I think some devices are having same hardware configuration but differences in divx playback support by system player. I think ZTE blade and LG optimus p500 have all the hardware identical except for the screen resolution. And LG optimus has native divx playback support whereas zte blade doesn't. (Correct me if I'm wrong). So i believe it is a software related thing.
And for 1GHz devices without divx support it might not make a big difference because they have a good processor which can play decent files even with software decoding. But for devices like ZTE blade, it matters because it cannot play most of the decent file types available in the internet.
What do you people say ??? Is it possible.
Give MX Video a Try
I download TV shows and movies in various formats all the time (just about all the popular formats).
The free MX Video Player plays them all on the ZTE Blade wonderfully. Even lets me stretch, crop, and full screen any video. And it remembers where I left off which is great because I can resume playback anytime right where I left off.
Just thought to mention as it solved all my video issues.
I also use MX video player on my blade, handles divx avi files with no problems.

[Q] H265 ?

Has anyone had any luck in playing H265 on their Nexus Player?
I am using the stock ROM with KODI 14.2rc and H265 content is unwatchable. I thought I'd ask around here before trying the Lollipop ROM and other versions of KODI in case this was a known issue.
is it the x86 build of kodi? because only the x86 build will play h.265/hevc., the arm build just can't (the same goes for h.264). oh - and you'll need to be using software decoding, not hardware decoding.
i've been able to play hevc completely fine on my np. i'm running 14.1 x86 stable.
Few media players online can afford H.265 directly. You'd better encode H.265 into H.264 mp4 first so that you can play the videos.
Works for me
I just tried an H.265 video on my stock NP today using Kodi Isengard (15.2). Worked great!
MX Player works. I recommend you google to download the all in one codec zip file to use with it.

[Q] HEVC decoding

Any of you experience some Distortion or blockyness in HEVC playback
It plays smoothly but I see a lot of Big pixels on the screen here is a comparaison between my NP and VLC on my macbook.

It's totally watchable but not perfect like it could be.
Could a custom rom or a revert to Lolipop fix this since the decoding is software ?
I tried MX Player, Kodi and VLC on the NexusPlayer with the exact same result.

Supposedly it does support 4K playback at main profile.
Qualcomm's marketing does say yes.
I don't have any content so I'm not sure about codecs an players.
