Win10 Tablets - What to get - Windows 10, 8, 7, XP etc.

Hello fellows,
I have been looking for a while to get a tablet, that I intent to use it mostly for reading, but also for some light work or media consumption.
Xiaomi MI Pad 2 caught my attention, because I have heard that their products have a good quality, the tablet's specs seems to be pleasurable (especially the display), and ultimately the price is within the limit that I can afford.
The problem with it is that it is not available right now, and nobody can tell when it will become.
Meanwhile, while searching for it in Chinese sites like gearbest, everbuing, etc, I have noted that there are other tablets with similar specs, but lower prices, like Onda, Techlast, Chuwi, etc.
Have anyone here tried any of them, can you tell me what is their build quality, performance, etc, and if they are good for reading? Also in general, what would recommend me to get?
Thanks

Poor reviews!

Any one else finding that most of the reviews of the Tab seem to be written by people who just don't get it?
I'm the first in line to call a spade a spade (that would be "shovel a shovel" for our American cousins) but I truly believe the Tab is a fantastic device and I cannot see where most of these reviewers are coming from.
I'm sure that some would say that us Tab buyers are trying to justify our purchase, but I'm honestly finding that the Tab has exceeded my expectations which were already quite high.
I've been in the market for a device that could sit between my laptop(s) and smartphone for casual media consumption and web browsing, and since buying my Tab last Friday, my Macbook has sat on my coffee table untouched and my HTC Desire has only really seen use as a phone.
I was seriously considering an Advent Vega, Toshiba Folio 100, or Archos 101 as they were all around half the price of the Tab, but after my experience with the Toshiba AC100 Android smartbook I decided that I really wanted the full Google experience (Market, Gmail etc) because it was just so much easier than faffing around with APKs etc.
In less than a week, beyond sitting at my desk, the Tab has become my primary device for Internet and media consumption, and I honestly did not expect that to occur.
Whilst the poor reviews don't affect me directly, I'm concerned that many people would be put off this fantastic device without giving it a fair crack of the ship which I can assure anyone who is sitting on the fence, the Tab most surely deserves!
Regards,
Dave
I tend to agree Dave.
The Tab is one of the best, if not THE best, android device i have used to date (and i have used many).
but its not for everyone and it does have some issues that needs to be addressed (such as the laggy browser).
It does seems like Samsung were able to overcome the issues the SGS had with the SGT and all the power to them.
I do think the reviewers just don't get it.
Some if the reviews i have read are just full of lies and totally biased (see BGR's review).
I really like the stock browser, but it is too laggy compared to others. Samsung should definitely have worked harder on that.
I'm also not convinced by swype on a device of this size but I could be convinced, if I could have swype automatically in portrait and something else in landscape.
Regards,
Dave
I don't think the reviews I've read have been overly negative but I've only read a handful:
Oddly, I found the review on Engadget to be one of the better ones, even if they only scored it 7/10.
They seemed genuinely enthusiastic about the Tab, which flies in the face somewhat of their general pro-Apple bias. I guess it just proves that some of the Engadget writers are genuinely enthusiastic about tech and not just stuff made in Cupertino.
GSMArena, normally a beacon of decent reviews, seemed to get a bit too hung up on trying to compare it to the iPad whilst avoiding declaring one better than the other. That and criticising the price a lot.
They also mentioned issues like the screen having ghosting issues, which I just couldn't reproduce when I used the Tab.
There was a 'review' on the BBC site by one of their tech bloggers which was beyond pitiful.
It just compared web-browsing and playing videos but was so lacking in any genuine insight or intelligence that I would advise not wasting your time on it.
Then the review on BGR, that one really did annoy me.
The reviewer criticised the pixel density of the Tab compared to smartphones and criticised the screen as too small compared to the iPad whilst conveniently ignoring the iPad's poorer pixel density.
If I was being generous, I'd say the review just didn't 'get' the Tab but it smacked much more of pro-Apple bias IMO.
So, one good review, one in-depth but indecisive review, one non-review and one advert for the iPad...
However, reading a lot of the comments left on various sites in response to their reviews, I would say there is a definite lack of 'getting' out there.
A lot of people just don't seem to see the appeal or usefulness of the Tab, which is fair enough everyone's entitled to their opinion but like you Dave, I'm not convinced they've actually given the Tab a fair go before reaching that decision.

well, comparing the tab with full fledge tablet will be useless
as i see it, tab is a phone that have tablet capabilities, considering they're still using FroYo which was a phone OS primarily
but when google OS for Tablet is ready in the market, and the tab get it, Ipad will get some rivalry from galaxy tab for sure, as Ipad cant be used as a phone, at all

I would say that comparison to any other Android tablets or the iPad is far from useless as they're all running similarly-capable OSs.
True, comparison to something running, say, Win7 would be a bit of a waste of time but I fail to see why comparing a 7" Android tablet to a 10" Android tablet would be useless.

Well let me put my fair understanding on both devices.
IPAD ADV
---------
- Bigger Screen: More Space for applications, pleasant for the eye
- Brighter Screen
- Longer Battery Life
- Applications tailored just for IPAD
IPAD DISV
----------
- Heavy.. use on one hand for a long time is just not comfortable.
- Can't Make Call without Jail Breaking / Additional Support
- Bulky, It would mean that you have to carry a bag with you all the time.
- Most of the stuffs don't work in IPAD. e.q. Flash
This is critical for some reason and at least for now, most websites run flash: Videos or Games and it's extremely cumbersome to get the contents to be played on the IPAD. Tethering not working right out of the box (if i remember correctly)
- No support for widgets. why is this important? well, because it's a feature that enable us to glance through information easily or access certain function easily. Plus, it's beautiful and pleasing. Imagine, you want to check your Data Usage, all you have to do is open your screen and you know straight how many have you used instead of opening the program and do a check button again. >.<!!
SGT ADV
--------
- Connectivity: you can make call, browsing using wifi or 3G.
- Light in size and pocket-able on most jeans or clothing.
- All in One? compared to IPAD, you will need an extra pair of device as a phone but with tab, you have it all.
- Device capable for honey comb & ginger bread.
- As android is open source, it's open to development and customization. This would mean that if samsung doesn't make SGT good enough for people, a team or someone can make that customization to provide more battery life, better interface etc.
SGT DISADV
------------
- Built on TFT technology.. which the screen is slightly distorted on certain angle.
- Compared to IPAD, the battery life sucks. However,
you get widgets, connectivity and multi tasking done right and still it's enough to be used as a daily phone / tablet.
- Not many application tailored for SGTab yet and my feeling about this is the future is a bit unknown .. With so many screen resolutions out. 7inch 8.9inch 10 inch.. it's just making it hard for developer to tailor the application but all in all, the android tablet coming to the market is definite so it's possible that the tailored applications will be growing steadily.
My Summary:
--------------
While ipad offers better battery life, applications, screen and performance. It does have certain disadvantages such as lack of flash support, customization, calls and it's bulky. And for some who wish to have portability and entertainment on the GO, Tab is definitely superior than IPAD in many ways. However, taking apps into consideration, the Apps in IPAD is amazing simply because they are tailored. Android is still evolving. We will see more applications tailored for Android tablet size become available in the near future. Having said that i would say all in all, the pro and cons between these two devices is 50:50 and at the end of the day, it's up to your preference whether you want a device with good apps support but lack portability or you want one with all in and portable.

Sorry for my bad english.
Then my point of view :
The SGT is not the better yes i agree with that.
But for me the point of view is different for everybody. Why ? Because i buy my 'item' because all off my requested features are in my 'item'.
If you havn't yet, look up the review that carrypad has done.

exactly. and also this flash nonsense always. yes we can do flash. but this is not the killer argument here.
this is a handy tablet with a nice os. thats it. and it can be used as a phone too.
it has a great speaker, which makes conference calls very nice.
widgets with that screen size rocks. gamings is brilliant on the device.
there is no need for comparison to some other device. this one is great.
Most of the reviews I've seen have been positive if not amazing, the Giz article is not an outstanding review or the best piece of journalism I've seen!
My iPad is a lounge device, my SGT is my RoadWarrior device. I wouldn't compare them as they fill 2 very different roles for me.

Comparing HC devices to the ipad2

Has anyone else noticed the number of complaints about light bleeds, freezing, and glitches about the ipad 2?
I regularly run into ipad and ipad2 users and their universal attitude seems to be "my tablet is better than yours".
Isn't the ipad 2 suppose to be the perfect hardware and software integrated product?

No idea what you're talking about, seriously. I had an iPad and now iPad 2 as well as the Iconia and love em both for their separate strengths. We have 3 ipad2's in our house and due to my job, they are stuffed to the gills with all kinds of apps and none have frozen, needed to be restarted or crashed. There have been an occasion app that has refused to load, but nothing like you are gleefully mentioning.
As for your rumor regarding screen issues, I posted something about this earlier today- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188841 - the iPads have consistently been the screen by which all others are compared and reports of light bleed, from what I've read, have been a rare defect.
I'm also loving my Android devices now that my Infuse is rooted (ROM is next) and my Iconia has HC3.1. There are days when I only use something running iOS for phone calls (my iPhone still has my main number). But Android it still doesn't have the polish iOS does (/ducks to avoid flames and large stones... ) which I blame more on the OEM's than the software. Android, again IMO, also doesn't have as many quality apps- game, productivity, multimedia, graphics, etc. But this is just a matter of time.
Is iOS the "perfect" blend of hardware and software? Maybe not, but IMHO, it's the closest to it for an "out of the box" experience at the moment. I'm sure with enough tweaks, ROMs and hacks, an experienced owner could create a near perfect tablet experience and while the ability to do all that is the beauty of Android, you can't expect your average user to do anything close to that.
So I don't know if your post was a troll shot and I got suckered into replying, but I guess I'm replying as an iPad and Android owner that doesn't feel like I have to boast about one product to denigrate another. Other than stating how a particular OS suits their expectations more than the other, I've never been around any iPad owners chanting about how superior their tab is, that's just ridiculous... of course all the iPad owners I know other than my son are adults...

I think some Apple folks suffer from the Dunning-Kruger effect as well as some cognitive dissonance - caused by the ADF (Apple Distortion Field).
Any and all Apple products, therefore - as superior to any competing product. Any and all Apple strategies are superior to any competing brands strategies.
Any and all Apple "stuff" is superior to any competing "stuff".
Once you understand and agree to compromise (shut yo mouth, foo!), you'll get along with them.
Now, these statements are a mixture of jokes and certain feelings I may possibly really believe .
Either way, the truth of the matter is the iPad and iPad 2 are great products. I think they are extremely thoughtfully made for better or for worse. I think they choose processes that make them great looking and 'easy'. I also think they are terrigreedy, holding back tech. and restricting certain features in order to squeeze money from customers. But give any company a chance and they'd do this - don't think it's just Apple. They are simply getting away with it, and that upsets folks.
I haven't seen many products which touch Apple quality in terms of materials they use and such. Apple's been shipping laptops with backlit keyboards for a while, look how long it took PC makers to do the same? (Granted, Apple notebooks are at a more than 70% premium, but still...nice, right?).
The light bleed may be an issue for some but think about it, most Apple users aren't doing anything to accentuate it. We're hard on our stuff! We really are. We penalize our hardware harshly, they don't (for the most part) and those that do are probably not Apple fans.
We turn lights off and make our screens pitch black in order to check for problems we wouldn't notice unless/until we search for them, they don't...they use and enjoy their stuff. While I do not agree that the iPad 2 is a BETTER device than even the A500, I do think it contains some parts that may be considered superior. That doesn't mean the competition (A500, Tab 10.1, TF) doesn't beat the pants off of the iPad 2, they in general do in terms of playing movies, games and such - but it means that a TYPICAL user will probably get 1. less heartache and 2. more enjoyment out of the iPad 2, while there's sort of a small learning curve for Android Tablets.
I hope this makes sense.
I'm a little biased, you can tell...but I'm objective enough to know good technology when I see/use it.

Actually, no, it's not a troll shot. I take the train everyday to work, so I encounter quite a few ipad users on a daily basis. Even at work I run into them. There's something about the ipad that makes people want to look down on everyone who uses something else.

I mean, no, not really. I HAVE a macbook, and don't care about, nor will look for a backlit kb on my next laptop... The mofo has also developed an annoying problem where it seems to see phantom touchpad presses and repositions my cursor at random.
I've the Iconia and the original iPad.
If I didn't have 'weird' requirements from a tablet, which are:
Connect a KB/Mouse for RDP
Use Bittorrent client (for legit purposes of course!!!)
... I would use the ipad every single time.
IMO, it's just a much much much nicer experience to use. Now, don't bother contradicting me on that. It's MY opinion and it's MY experience.
It's just smoother, nicer, better apps and the tablet itself is nicer (esp the iPad 2 which I have access to at work).
I've been thinking recently tho.. what I really want is a 13.3" Windows 8 tablet with Tegra 3, full size USB/HDMI, and something like a retina display and be same weight/thickness as iPad2.
Then I can ditch my laptop which I really only use to play Windows only games.
I also want 13.3" cos 10" is too small to work on all day long and I hate my work desk cluttered by a big fat clunky external screen. Just waiting for those transparent displays like u get in Avatar.
Windows 8 so I can install Diablo 3 on it when it comes out. Or OSX or whatever since I guess D3 will be out on Mac as well.
All I want is one all-encompassing device (and by the time D3 comes out, that shouldn't be too hard....)

Not trying to argue against you, but thought I'd just offer my personal view on that too, since I have experience on both devices too. I have an Ipad and the Iconia in my home as well, my wife has the iPad2 and I have this tab. Before I got the tab, she used to have the original iPad, and I used it quite a bit...she upgraded to the 2 around the time when I got my toy, after which I've barely touched the iPad2.
Now, I really like the iPad - I really do. When we just had that, I used it all the time (too much according to my wife ). It's snappy, clear to use, simple...nice device, I really like it for very basic stuff.
However, when that was the only tablet thing we had, I had to use my laptop/desktop much more than I do now, I felt like it was "too basic" for my needs. I didn't use to think I go to many flash sites, but I guess I do...there were plenty of things that just didn't work with the Safari, unfortunately. Plus the whole media experience is completely different, with the iPad I never watched anything since I just couldn't...it supported absolutely nothing of my current video collection, nothing works, everything should've been re-encoded and somehow (itunes I guess) brought into the iPad, which I didn't want to bother with - I have my setup and there are plenty of standards to go with how I access my stuff (DLNA, SMB, etc.), I didn't want to bend over backwards to redo everything. And now, with my Iconia, I can stream vidoes of whatever format from my home server, copy files by plugging in the USB or using samba etc. all sorts of options for that. So to me, the Iconia / HC tabs are clearly more useful than the iPad, the Android tablet is more of a computer in that way, it works with my existing network, just plugs into it. So yeah, I prefer it. Greatly. And even physically, I have to say I prefer the Iconia now...the 4:3 aspect ration on the iPad just looks wrong now.
But anyway, not trying to argue, just offering my views on the two devices. Like you, I see good points in both, but I'd say I strongly prefer the Android tablets for the more "computer-like" power they have and the way they interact with the existing setup I have.

Lenovo Tab 2 13.3 - still worth buying?

I am aware that it is not the newest tablet and that there have been update problems etc.
But for a good price, it would still represents great value for me as a large screen, high definition android tablet. Unfortunately there are no virtually no competitors in this segment, and none at this price point.
Also, I don't need it for gaming or other performance intensive use. I would mainly use it as an everyday tablet to watch movies, search the web and one special use: for reading and playing from sheet music at the piano. For this, the size and resolution is perfect and I don't want to buy an iPad Pro or similar.
I am not aware of the state of this tablet on the latest firmware, if it is solid, annoying, unusable etc.
Should I buy it or stay away?

Tab 3: 4GB Intel Pro vs. 3GB Snapdragon Plus

As mentioned in another thread, Lenovo quietly refreshed the Tab 3 Pro with 4GB RAM, a newer Intel m5 processor, and 64GB storage, FWIW. Stacking it up against the Tab 3 Plus (3GB RAM, Snapdragon 8-core, 32GB), so far a lot is speculation or anecdata.
My main questions, to put the TL;DR at the top:
How does the Plus perform out of the box, before doing any XDA magic on it? Have the audio sync issues been fixed? A Lenovo rep has been quoted saying they have been fixed.
How do these two CPUs compare? I've seen speculation that Android and/or certain apps may not be as well optimized for Intel chips, even if the m5 is otherwise more capable.
I'm strongly considering one of these two, probably the Pro. Most people, just shopping for a good tablet, will probably go with the Plus. It's currently $200 cheaper (40%), and that price point for the display and speaker quality, along with dat battery, is unquestionably a good deal. The Plus has some OOBE issues: A/V sync (possibly fixed), encryption lag, some questionable display "enhancements." But, it also has at least one dev here at XDA who has fixed all of the above and provided root, at least for the WiFi only model available in the US.
I've only had credible feedback from two different people regarding the new Pro, but word is performance is solid. Both people had the old 2GB Pro long enough to try out, and found it barely usable due to encryption lag and low RAM, and both say the new Pro is not the fastest tablet they've ever used, but has no real issues. It's probably underperforming for its hardware, but the hardware is strong enough you won't notice. Which is good, because it may never have dev support here, or not until the price drops significantly (though who knows, XDA has surprised me before).
What it probably comes down to is whether you want that projector. The projector isn't all you get for $200 - there are also small spec bumps across the board, and double the onboard storage - but if you don't have a realistic use for the projector, it would be hard to justify the extra cost. The real world performance difference between the Pro and Plus is probably not large, and may even fall in the Plus's favor if some apps have trouble with the Intel CPU (not at all verified). For me, the projector looks like it will make a serviceable bedroom TV, and probably a more comfortable solution than any of my options for getting a flatscreen in my room. The 480p will probably be inadequate for throwing comic books up on the wall (and certainly not on par with that 2HD screen), but I would give it a try.
For me, the bedroom TV prospect is one of the things pushing me over that "Do I really need a new tablet..." line. My Nook HD+ used to get a lot of use, but has been collecting dust for 2-3 years in favor of a good desktop and smartphone, and a Kindle Paperwhite taking over book duty. Now, is it not getting used because it's old and slow, or is it not getting used because I don't have much use for it?
Feedback on the new Pro is sparse, so if you have one in your hands, please let us know about it.

I wouldn't trust either of those sources until we start to see OTA updates coming out from Lenovo fixing the issues. The Amazon user is not a power user while the different arms of Lenovo don't seem to know what the other is doing.

Yep, that's why I'm asking. All the info on Amazon (regarding these two devices) is pretty useless.
Is it normal for there to be such limited reviews/information for Lenovo Tablets?! Really want to buy it, but just want to know more! haha.
There are a decent number of YouTube reviews of the previous Pro, and a couple non-English ones for this model, but Lenovo made zero publicity about the new model and didn't even give it a new name. Here's some info I got from someone on YouTube, for what it's worth:
Taosaur: I'm hoping the spec bump on the new model gets around some of the performance issues.
YouTuber: can confirm. I actually bought the new version to test it out! Loved it so much that that I sold my iPad lmao. No lag at all really
Reply
Taosaur: Thanks for the feedback! It doesn't seem like Lenovo's much interested in people knowing the new model exists. Do you ever pull out the projector? I've been surprised how positive the feedback has been on a pretty dim 480p projector.
YouTuber: Yes I do! It's very great to seeing movies on it rather than the screen because of the size. Especially because I have a big white wall in my bedroom. The one issue I've come across with this tablet is that every battery capacity app states I have 4300 MAH battery. Less than half of 10200... however I recently learned I'm not the only one experiencing this and the battery capacity thing seems to only be a glitch. I get around 8-9 hours of screen on time with about an hour of projector use included in that so it's still pretty good
Taosaur: I don't suppose you've tried the projector with comic books? I'm guessing the resolution wouldn't make it a great experience, and the 2HD screen would be better regardless, but I'm sure I'll try it if I end up pulling the trigger. Any idea if the Hoopla Digital app works on this tablet? It's a an app for borrowing digital comics and other media with a library card. It's not compatible with my current tablet running CyanogenMod Nougat.
YouTuber: I just tested a comic and it seems to work fine. I'm sure the projector would be fine with comic books in the pitch black for sure. I just tested that app for ya and it opens just fine. I don't have a hoopla account though so I didn't get past the login screen.
I gotta say he projector is really nice for movie watching. One thing I gotta mention is... The blacks in the display aren't that good... The blacks have a blueish tone to it. I wish it was an amoled display. Still the colors are quite vibrant. Also the screen gets REALLY bright and also gets REALLY dim. Great for daytime use and night use. I tried the pixel c and it wasn't dim enough so it hurt my eyes at night
But that makes the projector all the nicer to use. After using the projector to watch the walking dead, it's hard to go back to the screen for movie watching haha. Seems so small in comparison. It's really amazing having it in such a small package. Especially as the projector is totally fanless and never needs replacement bulbs.

Awesome, thanks for posting that convo between you and the YouTuber. Would definitely like to hear you own experience with it.. I likely would just get the Plus version, as I don't see myself using the projector enough to justify the significantly higher price tag here in Canada. Hoping the 3gb ram is good enough for me to just use it as a media tablet, won't be a whole lot of multi-tasking. :fingers-crossed:
I have the 4gb pro and its really good. I had the 2gb pro and it was terrible due to the RAM issue. The 4gb has no such issues. I am still considering returning and getting the 3gb 10.1 inch plus version though. It's $200 less, I dont need the projector, 3gb of ram should be enough to solve the issues of the 2gb pro and 4gb is probably overkill on the new pro. A few things are holding me back from making the change.
The audio sync issue is obviously a huge concern since I use the tablet for media consumption exclusively. Also, there is not a lot of info on how much different the 2 majorly different cpu's are intel vs snapdragon. While the intel cpu is better on paper as its been mentioned the snapdragon has much better overall android optimization due to being so ubiquitous. Also can anyone confirm if the 3gb snapdragon has quick charge? The intel version does and its fanstastic.
My Pro showed up Monday, and I do like the projector. It may end up my most-used feature, though the screen is also gorgeous. I hang the thing over my bed and project on the opposite wall, which gives at least a 55" image, less sharp but easier on the eyes at night than a backlit LCD. Zen Pinball is my go-to game on a tablet, and it plays great - the stand comes in handy. I wouldn't try to play any detailed games with the projector, but old-school emulators would probably be great, and again, the 2HD display is excellent.
There have been bugs:
I had a one-off sound glitch with the pinball game, getting really distorted sound, but going into Dolby Atmos and switching to game mode fixed it.
"Request failed" toasts kept popping up last night while I was watching Hulu. No clue what they were, but they didn't interrupt playback.
So far I've had no luck pairing the tablet with my phone over bluetooth. They see each other, but give "wrong pin" errors, despite showing the same pin. Both connect fine to my headphones and speaker.
FYI, there are more credible reports showing up on Amazon that a software update has corrected the Plus' A/V sync and "flickering" issues.

Have you had any issues with random apps not working? I recently purchased it and cannot get snapchat to work on it for the life of me.
I just bought the plus, I haven't had any audio sync issues thus far and am pretty happy with the overall build quality and performance thus far.

Everything I've tried on it has worked well. I still get that "request failed" pop up at random times. I can only confirm that Snapchat installs and opens - I'm not about to make an account.

It opens after a fresh install, I can get to the login/create account screen. But after login it just crashes and crashes when I startup as well.

Pre-Purchase Questions

I'm looking to purchase a tablet for light work/recreational purposes. Price point on this tablet seems good considering the cost of the higher end tablets. I don't want to spend over $400.
I've read the processor is not great. Does the tablet act sluggish sometimes? How is the screen?
I'll mostly be using it to view PDF, Excel, Word files, and use various Android apps. Not gaming so much but could be one here and there. Thoughts? Is there a better device for the money out there?
Also, what Android version does this ship with? I'm having trouble finding that out.

I use it for light reading, Netflix and WSOP poker. It does have some lag with the poker game after 1/2 hour or so. Web browsing, etc works well.
Android 10 June security patch.
The Exynos 9611 is about equal to the SD660, albeit with a weaker GPU. This is a productivity tablet more than anything, I'd say, as the highlight is definitely the s-pen.
For day to day tasks it's pretty snappy and I rarely notice any stuttering (I set the animation scale to 0.5 and everything opens instantly), I use it for reading, browsing, taking notes and just jotting down sketches and work-related stuff.
The screen looks great, even coming from a higher (~273) ppi tablet, I don't notice much of a difference, it's crisp and bright enough.
The rule with Tab S6 Lite is this: if you don't game heavily and you need an active/s-pen and, like me, dislike the Apple way of doing things, then the lite is your best bet on a budget.
Otherwise, if gaming is involved or you don't need the spen - there are better options out there, the S5e, if you can still get one, will do better in gaming and has superior speakers and
screen (I myself don't like the OLED flicker, hope they fixed it on the newer S7+).
On the dark side the iPads rule this kingdom performance and prices. The 7th gen iPad cost the same and runs circles around it, the Air 3 is another option, with better screen and specs.
