I have tmobile and am on 6.0.1.
I have Google now on, location history on, location on device only or on high accuracy, with scanning off in wifi settings unless plugged in.
Even if I physically turn my wifi off my wifi bar is constantly active in my battery graph. The only thing that will turn it off is airplane mode. The only reason this bugs me is wifi constantly shows up as draining the battery.
Any ideas? Is this a bug with 6.0.1?

First I've read of this. Something is definitely buggy with your software. I would back up your SD and flash the 6.0.1 factory image then set up device as new when entering account info.

Maybe constantly scanning for networks?

wifi nexus 7. turn on airplane mode. manually turn wifi back on. what stays off, anything? GPS? Does airplane mode have any use or advantage on a wifi only device. Any battery use changes or background processes that stop? Thanks for any responses

Probably no bluetooth, either. I know it turned it off on my old work blackberry because it was on the same screen and you could see it turn off.
It should turn off EVERYTHING wireless. That includes, to my knowledge, WiFi, GPS, NFC, and Bluetooth.
It should help with battery life - although probably very slightly. GPS/NFC/Bluetooth truthfully have very little effect on battery life as is, and WiFi isn't that big of a hog. But it certainly could help to eek out an extra few percentage points if you *really* needed it.
Even manually by disabling the wifi, in the chart of the battery, I see that is always connected, even at night, even when the display is turned off, even when there are no other activities!
How so?

Settings->Connections->Wi-Fi->Menu button->Advanced->Turn "Always allow scanning" off->Hit the thanks button!
I thank you on trust!
This should also consume less battery power or does not change anything?
By changing this I'm now getting about a quarter of a day more. Not a lot but more=better!
Tomorrow I'll know!
Whether you finally wifi turns off completely ... whether the battery lasts longer!
The WIFI locking it manually, is finally off!
Unfortunately I have not noticed improvements with the battery.
But I believe that the increased consumption is due to the data connection.
In fact, if I leave the wifi on, in addition to the data connection, I have a night consumption by about 4%.
If I turn off the wifi and leave the active data connection, I have to consume about 10%

At night, I just turn Airplane Mode on, WiFi on, 3% consumtion.
I will try to turn off the data connection only because I need the radio active to receive any phone calls.
Hi guys
I noticed countless times that randomly when turning on wifi and then turning it off, the "always allow scanning" under advanced options is ticked.
I noticed this because then under battery usage you will see wifi active even tho main switch is off and 99% of the time that is why.
Is it a lollipop 5.0 bug or is it some of my apps that can switch that option when they detect wifi has been activated?
Also, it seems that if i dont turn on wifi in the first place, that option never becomes active. Battery life is very good on my phone so not a deal breaker....
Anyone knows?
Thanks
I got my 6p last week and it's been running great until this afternoon. It got warm and the battery level drops by 70's at around 10am to low 30's at 4pm; during that time it was mostly on airplane mode with all sync/bluetooth/gps turned off.
When I checked the battery history it says that the GPS has been on for over 7 hours. I certainly did not turn on the gps myself (I turned off location), and I do NOT have smart lock.
Question: How can I determine which apps/processes turn on the GPS?
I also notice that "Miscellanenous" is responsible for 29% of the battery use.
Question: What the heck is that? How can I turn it off?
Thanks!
Try disabling the GPS in settings.
I believe your issue stems from Wifi not GPS, anyhow try this - turn off WiFi scanning, and turn off the option to continuously scan for more accurate information. I had similar issues before I turned this off, my battery used to drain a lot on Wifi.

Thanks! Where do I find these options for turning off wifi scanning & for (not) continuously scanning for more accurate info?
Under wifi-->advanced wifi I already set "keep wifi on only when plugged in". I did turn on "notify whenever a public network is available" --- is that what you meant by "wifi scanning"? But I can't find anything about "scanning for more accurate info" (I already turned off location and smart lock).
Thanks!
EDIT: I just realized something: The compass on my 6p has not been working properly (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/help/compass-t3243394). This morning I spent a good 10 min calibrating the compass by doing the figure 8 dance etc. It didn't fix the compass, but the time where I began the figure 8 dance roughly coincide with the time where the GPS was reported to be turned on... The plot thickens...

Are you even using this device or android M or you just giving advice from android kit kat? There no longer is "turn on/off scanning" in android M.

There is no plot. Just find which app runs in the background and continuously asks for location. Problem solved.

Wich app?
How about your compass? Does it work propperly now?
So I was using PA and now on PN. FK then and now EX kernel.
I still have the same problem. The Wifi is ALWAYS ON even after I turned it off or after I placed it on airplane mode.
Now before you all say turn off Wifi Scanning, Bluetooth scanning and keeping WiFi on or off.
Like in Pictures:
-Bluetooth and Wifi Scanning is off
-Keep Wifi ON during sleep only when plugged in
The only way I can turn it off is to restart my phone or reconnect to a network and disconnect.
I notice if I exit the house and turn off Wifi some time later the WiFi will be off but seen in detail battery stats and stays that way till I connect to another network and disconnect properly, Or I leave & turn off the Wifi properly before I exit the Wifi range.
WHAT IS THIS PROBLEM?
It''s kinda that I need to always do this. If I forget and I have a large bar of WiFi and need a restart. -_-
I have average battery life 4hours SOT and get 12hours of Battery life. Clean flashed PN but flashed a back up of my Apps from Titanium.
Thanks guys in advance!!
Hope someone can give me a solution for this!
Have a nice one!:good:
