You were one tough s.o.b. to find, Waldo.
Interesting statement:
"Even though Nexus S is designed to be suitable for AOSP work, there
are some caveats. I very strongly recommend against trying to use
Nexus S for anything related to AOSP at the moment. Trying to unlock
or use your Nexus S for AOSP work could easily turn it into a Nexus B
(where B means "brick");"

Stupid question, but what is OmniROM and what does it mean for the end-user? I just saw a post from XDA on my Facebook feed, and it seems like kind of a big deal.

I've had an iPhone since about three months ago (because they were the only phones readily available to be bought used and without a contract), but have always kept up with Android. It doesn't seem like innovation stopped. What are we missing now? Cyanogenmod seems to be packed with innovative features, so does AOKP.
BTW, great signature.

I don't think any iPhone is in the works for omni at the moment
I felt what was missing was a team to implement ideas that have never been imagined by the average person, or have been thought of as to be "too difficult" to implement.
I feel this rom, and the team behind it, is the answer to this problem, which should open doors up in other teams, including cyanogenmod
And thanks

It WOULD be a feat to crack the iPhone's bootloader past the iPhone 3G and get Android booting on there, wouldn't it..?
So, the OmniROM will not just be another copy of another custom ROM? Now that it's being mentioned, I do feel like a lot of them just have the same features.Maybe that's why I'm not fully satisfied when I habitually flash new ROMS.

I work with someone who builds for the iPhone. I might get them to add omni support for it.
Omni is based on aosp (the stock source from google). From their patches are added to support an array of devices. Then new features are added. Seeing as it's a fairly new project (only been around 2 months), there aren't a lot of new features, however there are a few ones to note
They are adding true multi window support
The quick settings tiles are flipable
There see, so to be a new app called "OmniGears". I'm unsure about what exactly this will do, but it seems to contain rom specific settings
I hope this is enough to convince you this won't be a "copy of another rom"

Multi-window sounds awesome. It's one of two features, the other being Watch-on, that I found useful/interesting from TouchWiz. Now, all I need is a download link... I don't even care about bugs.

im also very interested as to which phones will be supported...but not only that but how easy will it be to get your device supported...im over in Asia and there aren't variants that aren't well supported by the major custom rom developers like AOKP, CM, Panandroid....which makes it really hard and sucks to get in on the "open source" goodness...i hope Omni is easy to bring to a large selection of phones...
EDIT: ok, well that makes sense the vanilla versions...just hope its easier to get more on board...

Asian phones implying mediatek based? There are a few commits in Gerrit to add support for them, but I think it's still not usable. They'll do their best
As for not being supported. Unfortunately it's down to getting a device maintainer. There will be guides posted no doubt, and this is xda. Basically a massive manual on hacking android

If you can get AOSP to run on your device, you should be able to get Omni to run. Currently, a device tree needs nothing significant beyond an AOSP tree (I think about 3 lines of changes to make an AOSP tree work in Omni). This means work on porting Omni is helpful to those wanting AOSP as well.

Mediatek chips will most likely end up supported. I understand that most projects eschew them through a lack of sources etc, but we intend to do what we can with them, as they offer interesting opportunities including multi-SIM support to say the least.

Unfortunately the amount of carrier interference on many US phones makes them less fun for anyone wanting custom ROMs If you can get the SIM-free international model, that often helps, but that's obviously not possible with Verizon...

Don't mind at all. I am pushing it to Github to make it easier for you guys. I'll also need to fix the repo remotes (unless someone else gets there first) so it pulls from Github.
Hello OMNI Team,
I love your rom and i love that you implemented the data fix for Sprint. I am curious if you plan to add sprinthiddenmenu and fix the Update PRL/Profile features found in mobile settings?
So far CM, Vanir, and now Slimkat have these features working and code is up, I was wondering if that would help you guys implement this so we can have those features working, sometimes updating PRL fixes data issue on Sprint and it would be wonderful to stay on OMNI without having to flash stock to update those pieces.
Thank you for all the hard work you guys put in, I along with the community appreciate it.
Bump there is now a fix any chance

It's OT for this thread so won't say anything more then, Yes: I also tried DU. Would still love to see the fix in Omni. Back to stock for now, hoping to catch the 4.4.3 OTA that will give us Spark.
As the titles states, I've not seen HALO on any of the CM based or AOSP based rom's? That was a great little edition which really made the phone look cool, does anyone know if it's a simple add on or if it's even already been implemented into a ROM and i've just overlooked it?
I'm aware that there is an app which tries to emulate it but it's nowhere near as intuitive or as integrated.
Any thoughts on it or if it's even in the pipeline to be added to any of our ROMs?
Cheers.
EDIT: 50 views and no replies am i the only one who misses the HALO notifier? so bad
Ain't HALO dead long ago with the restructure (read: degeneration) of PA?
/RANT/
PA was once a nice ROM. Hybrid UI, PIE, HALO, all sorts of unique and original tricks, and open to features. Now they're just sticking close to AOSP and reluctant to even implement a shortcut in power menu.

On newer Android versions, Google is restricting the freedom of UI customization by unifying UI across devices and ROMs, so I don't see the chance for UI breakthroughs like HALO. Sure do hope some team can do it though.
