Do the back and menu button work on cm13 or do you have to use the softkeys?

Back and menu key work as intented. That means that back is for back and menu is for the menu, and not for the recents.

Buttons work as intended and you can even configure the Menu button to either open the menu or recent apps switcher.

how i can i change which button does what? like home, menu, back etc.
Is anyway that I can replace the menu button with a recent button and get all my apps to do like aosp rooms where when you open an app you get a menu button come on?
And I'm rooted fyi . Everything I've used ie g2xposed and g2 tweakbox to change to have back home recent setup I don't get the little menu button,have to make a long press for menu or 4th button and don't care for either..

Pick enable button combination in tweaksbox and then just change it in settings - display.
My device is S4
Rom 5.0.1 TW OB7
I want to remap menu button to app switch by edit system > usr > key layout > generic.kl
Replace "Key 139 Menu" to "key 139 APP_SWITCH WAKE_DROPPED".
But it not working.
SO, What i can remap menu button?

But what about men you need the menu?
Won't that disable the menu function?
Unless you have on-screen buttons, I don't it will trigger the "Menu" feature to appear in apps

No disable menu button, my S4 run 5.0.1 Offical OB8, when i change button menu to swtich and then i can long press button menu to get menu function.
Where is the menu button. No menu icon showing in apps and the menu button has been replaced with the split screen thingy

Hey, this is the first phone/rom I've seen Titanium Backup missing the menu button (3 dots). I can access preferences by going to "Problems ?" in the Overview page, but it's still really strange. I'm using TB from the play store (with purchased key).
Had the same problem. I just used the GravityBox Xposed module to reassign one of the capacitive buttons as my menu button since I'm used to the old layout on my OPO.
Or you can turn on Mi Pop and use the on screen menu button

To expand on this, the mi-pop arrow can expand into 4-point button menu if you pres on the arrow, hold and swipe it out. one of those will be the 3-dot button
