Restricted profile and casting - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to set up a restricted profile and it's all working fine however I've noticed that the ability to cast videos is gone. I can't see the Nexus Player as an available device once the restricted profile is activated. Am I doing something wrong or this is how it is supposed to work? Is there anything I can do to activate it? Thanks.

Nexus Player: Problems With Casting Function

Issue with Chromecast function
I switched from Chromecast to a Nexus Player today because I use my Chromecast (v1) all the time and the media player on my new TV sucks so I wanted to use Kodi and Chromecast in one device. Kodi works very well with the Android M preview but I'm having an issue with the Chromecast function. There is some strange smoothing or interpolation thing going on. For example when I'm streaming something from ShowBox or a local file from my phone via LocalCast or BubbpleUPnP the picture looks sped up. In fact I initial though there was some motion smoothing enabled on my TV. But there was not. The sound is also out of sync.
This only happens on the Nexus Player, the Chromecast (old version) does not have that issue.
Does anyone know why that happens and how to fix it?
Edit: I found a posting with the same issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-player/general/nexus-player-soap-opera-effect-v5-1-t3068551
Apparently it was introduced with Update 5.1 and only happens when apps use the native Android video player. Any idea how to fix that? TVHZ did not fix it btw. I'm pretty sure I'm SOL but I'm asking anyway.

Can I pair my Windows 10 laptop with the Shield for casting video files?

It would be nice to be able to send video files from my laptop to the Shield via Google Cast. I have tried the Chrome extension of course, and it allows you to cast your whole screen but that's extremely quality-degrading for video. I want to cast actual files and nothing else.
I would have assumed there's no built-in compatibility between and Android device and a Window machine, yet when I right-click a video file in Windows Explorer there's an option to "Cast to Device" > "Android_b141". When I select Android_b141 I am asked for a WPS Pin but I've looked on the box and in the manual and there is nothing explicitly given as the WPS Pin. I've tried a few things like serial number etc but with no luck.
Does anyone know if it is possible to get this to work? I would really like to be able to just use this built-in functionality, if it exists. I have tried some third-party workarounds such as Chrome extensions which claim to be able to cast video files, but none work well if at all.
For comparison, on my Android tablet ES File Explorer allows casting of video files with no problem at all. This is the sort of functionality I am after on my laptop.
Thanks in advanced for any help or advice.

Thanks for the suggestion. But Plex is not ideal for me. I used to have a big media library indexed by XBMC (now Kodi) and I also know how smoothly Plex can stream across a network but I don't need a whole media library server-client setup atm, just the ability to cast occasional unorganised video files (not even always TV and movies, sometimes old home videos that are stored on my laptop for example, or something I just pulled off my action cam).
Immediately after making the OP I found an imperfect workaround. Strem.io for Windows allows you to drag and drop any video file and cast via just about any casting protocol. The program is a simplified (but certainly not light-weight) media centre though, so I could do with something lighter. It's made me think that perhaps there are video players out there for Windows which support casting. I'm surprised that VLC doesn't.
Can't you use a windows shared folder? Kodi can read any smb share with ease

REMIX OS - Best video player, best settings

Hi all. Been using Remix OS on the MOJO and loving it, but having some issues with media file playback. I usually use SPMC but I can't seem to set it so that that playback is smooth. I'm getting judders and stutters here and there, most noticeable (but not exclusively) on PAL 50Hz content and when the camera pans. Is there a different media player I should try, or what would the optimum settings be for the MOJO to produce smooth playback? I only have a fairly standard Samsung LE32C450. Thanks all.
NVM, I appear to have resolved it. I've had to set sync playback to display and sync to refresh rate on, and also always enable vsync. Never had to do this on previous versions, but the latest SPMC seems to need it. Playback fixed either way.
EDIT: Posting up my settings as I do indeed appear to have resolved the playback issue across all types of content, not just 50Hz PAL stuff. All video was rather juddery, but no more. Very pleased Anyway, maybe this could help someone else with the same issues:
Enable Expert settings within the SPMC menus.
1. Switch off Mediacodec (Surface) in Acceleration, leaving just default Mediacodec on
2. Set Vertical Blank sync to always enabled
3. Sync display to refresh rate - on
4. Adjust display refresh - always
Then when playing a file, go to the video options:
5. Switch Deinterlace off. Now you may have some files that need it on. You will have to set this to on for those files as you play them. Do not set it to auto either way. Auto seems to screw up playback.
6. Deinterlace method - Bob inverted (probably already set to this)
7. Video scaling - Bilinear (see above)
Then click to set as default for all media.
Let me know if any of this helped you or not.
EDIT 2: Please delete this thread mods, as this is no longer working for me.

Screen mirroring issue using Screen streaming and mirroring app on PhonixOS.

I am trying to mirror my PhonixOS screen to another PC or Android using Screen Stream Mirroring app. This app allows to mirror the screen to VLC via a TCP link, it also allows to stream internal audio of the device but it requires root access and a plug-in.
I am not able to mirror my screen above 324p on PhonixOS os (not to mention even when I am using a 1920×1080 monitor and also the screen resolution set to that) but on other devices I can mirror at it's native resolution. I am not able to figure out how to fix it. Even the internal audio stuff is not working even after having the plug-in installed and giving root access.
I am using PhonixOS v3.0.8.529_x86_x64
Screen Stream Mirroring: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobzapp.screenstream.trial
I have also tried the paid version of the Screen Stream Mirroring app but the same thing.
If anybody have the solution then please help me.
Actually what I am trying to achieve is, I want to stream my PhonixOS screen with internal+microphone audio to OBS on another computer which is on the same WiFi or LAN network.

Possible to install 2 of the same app side by side?

So I pay for youtube red or whatever its called now and as such I don't have ads. I find it very cumbersome to sign out of youtube to switch profiles. I installed Smart Youtube TV so I can have 2 profiles active. However, its just not the same. I'd like to install 2 copies of Youtube to my shield so I can have each with its own profile logged in. Is this possible?
Alternatively, are there any work around to switch profiles?
Thanks!
